(No, the fact that these are female-founded brands is probably not coincidental.) 

White has long been associated with the women's suffrage movement that began in the 1840s and aimed to grant women the right to vote (which didn't happen until 1920). Women would wear white dresses with white sashes in suffrage parades. White symbolized purity and they also wore purple to signify loyalty and gold to represent hope. Hillary Clinton is currently on a personal trip to India with Huma Abedin and other friends. With temperatures climbing into the 90s, Clinton knows exactly what to wear: breezy pieces, straw hats, sandals, and linen pants. In other words, she's pretty much vacation style personified right now. 

So far, the former secretary of state has toured Jodhpur and the ancient city of Mandu after speaking at a forum in New Delhi. In the next issue of Teen Vogue, you won't see a model or actress on the cover—you'll see the first female presidential candidate nominated by a major party. None other than Hillary Clinton graces the cover of the glossy, and she also guest-edited the special-edition issue. 

"Teen Vogue takes teen girls seriously and understands that style and substance aren’t mutually exclusive," Clinton writes in the magazine. "I love seeing articles about the search for the perfect makeup remover next to essays about running for office (I have strong opinions on both topics, but we’ll get to that later). Teen girls are a powerful force for good in the world, and it’s refreshing to see that reflected in these pages."

Clinton explains that in the issue, she'll be sharing letters received after the election, writing about her relationship with her childhood best friend, and more. "All in all, this issue is a celebration of resistance and resilience," Clinton continues. "I hope you’ll take that message to heart, because the world needs your passion and determination more than ever." Who could argue with that?

No matter what your political views may be, there's no denying the fact that Hillary Clinton's candidacy for president of the United States will be remembered as one of the most important moments in women's history. And it's safe to say that she will be on everyone's minds on March 8, aka International Women's Day. 

If there's anyone who knows the monumental impact that wearing a certain colour can have, it's Clinton. It's not a coincidence that she chose to almost exclusively wear bright, solid colours while on the campaign trail and in her years in the public eye leading up to the election—including her time as first lady.

The colours you choose to wear on International Women's Day, especially, will undoubtedly carry an unspoken meaning that's louder than words. (Remember when everyone in the world was talking about the meaning behind her decision to wear purple for her concession speech?)

Red is a colour that can't be ignored. It forces people to stop and pay attention. Clinton fittingly chose this strong, powerful hue for the first presidential debate in September. 

According to the National Woman's Party, "Purple is the colour of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause." It's also the colour of dignity and self-respect, and it signifies bipartisanship. All of these are likely reasons Clinton chose to wear it for her concession speech and in repeat past occasions. Not only that, but it was one of the three colours adopted by the suffragettes.

The symbolism of wearing all white also harks back to the suffragette movement, when women were strongly encouraged to wear white. According to a quote in The Guardian by Valerie Steele, the director of the Museum at FIT, "White has connotations in the west of purity and virtue, this idea of being the good guy." Added Steele, "Certainly the suffragettes were aware of that when they wore white—they were good people too; why shouldn't they have the right to vote?"

Another signature colour of the suffragette movement was green, which Clinton has worn on multiple occasions. Green stands for hope, which is why Pantone chose it to be 2017's colour of the year. 

Remember those pink hats everyone wore to women's marches around the U.S. on January 21? The hue is unapologetically feminine and represents compassion and love. Clinton has chosen shocking pink on multiple occasions over the years, including for her most recent public appearance: a dedication ceremony for a series of stamps honoring Oscar de la Renta.

As it turns out, not even the fashion industry is immune to the effects of this year's election. Lyst reports that searches for one style in particular have spiked due to election coverage: white pantsuits. In fact, Lyst revealed that searches for the trend have grown a whopping 460% since January. Of course, there was a particular surge in interest after Hillary Clinton wore a white Ralph Lauren pantsuit to the final presidential debate.

The color also happens to have a deeper meaning behind it, as it's linked to the suffrage movement. The New York Times' Vanessa Friedman explained the significance: "A grass-roots movement on social media has been urging women to #WearWhiteToVote in solidarity with the American suffragists, who adopted the color as one of their signatures and fought for what has now come (at least partly) to fruition: the first woman as a major party’s candidate for president."

Election Day can be pretty stressful for everyone. Despite how excited we are to exercise our right, we spend the majority of the day waiting with bated breath for the results and the relief that our candidate came out on top. So let Rihanna’s latest look provide a bit of a break for your typical post-ballot anxiety buzz because, as far as we can tell, her outfit is the best we’ve seen all day. And it has her face on it.

In a very meta, and very clever, move, Rihanna posted a selfie on Instagram today that featured her wearing a tribute to someone she supports 100%: herself. While the singer is unable to vote in this year’s election, as she’s Barbadian and not registered within the U.S., we can still appreciate someone who’s vocal and forthright about such an important election season. And the fact that she does it with a little bit of humor certainly helps, too.

On the eve of the final presidential debate, Rihanna paired her casual cutoff shorts and distressed boots with a $35 Trapville tee that featured a photo of Clinton in a New York Yankees baseball cap. No matter who you are, or which way you swing politically, there is no denying the fact that Hillary Clinton is kind of a big deal right now. Celebrities have been showing their support of the Presidential candidate left and right, but just recently we caught wind of a group of celebs out there who are showing their support in the most fashionable way possible. Anna Wintour has made it no secret that she's a proud supporter of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, having worn T-shirts showing her allegiance on multiple occasions and even co-hosting a recent high-profile fundraiser for Clinton along with other past fashion industry fundraisers for the presidential hopeful.

The native Brit's involvement with the campaign is of the more sartorial nature as well, as we just learned from Business of Fashion. As the fashion news source printed this morning, "Clinton has been consulting American Vogue editor-in-chief and Democratic party fundraiser Anna Wintour on her wardrobe choices for key moments of the campaign. … On certain occasions, Wintour has approached designers to procure outfits for Clinton, who has settled into a uniform of brightly coloured pantsuits and jackets by US designers."

BoF interviewed personal stylist to politicians Corey Roche on the subject of dressing candidates for campaigns, who said, "There is [campaign] money allocated to fashion and clothes, because that is a huge part of marketing and branding." As Clinton accepts the nomination to be the first female presidential candidate tonight, all attention will be turned to not only what she says, but also what she wears for the historical occasion. And it appears that Wintour will have had a hand in that.
