I consider myself someone who is pretty low-maintenance with their hair. I don't like spending ages with a hair tool when styling my lengths, and so I'm always drawn to low-effort hairstyles that not only look effortless, but are also effortless to create, too. And if you're like me and the rest of the internet, you too have been swooning over Zendaya's The Odyssey press tour hair moments, which have been featuring some stunning Grecian-inspired waves that I've been desperate to re-create. And as we're in the height of summer, now is the perfect time to try "S" waves. I spoke with a top hairstylist to break down exactly how to achieve this low-effort style for summer.

How to Do S Waves

"S waves are a looser, more luxe take on the classic mermaid waves and the perfect style for summer," says hairstylist and GHD ambassador Patrick Wilson. "It tells the story of an 'I just got out of the sea' glossy look that looks effortless and summery. The style is all about having luxuriously deep waves with a shaken-out finish for an uber fresh, cool look," he says. "It is all about creating a subtle, wavy texture rather than curl. This is a flatter wave that doesn't have the volume or width of a traditional curly blow-dry, making it ideal for a more modern, sleek look. It’s a great look that can be created on all hair lengths."

What You'll Need

To create your S waves, you'll need a good heat protector, a pair of hair straighteners, a wide-toothed comb and a texturising spray or salt spray.

1. Prep Hair

You'll want to start on straight, dry hair and use a good heat protector before styling your hair to shield your lengths from heat damage.

2. The Technique

Wilson tells me that you can use a triple waver; however, a hair straightener can achieve the same look and gives you more control over the wave. "Personally, I like to use the GHD Chronos Hair Straightener (£299) to add bends and kinks in the hair using an S-bend motion," he says.

"Place the straightener at your eye level and move the styler down an inch and flip it in the opposite direction, creating an 'S' shape in the hair," says Wilson. "When starting the bends and waves in your hair, don’t start too high or into your parting; otherwise, this creates too much height at the root and looks more done than it needs to," he says.

3. Wave Hair

Then, repeat the motion throughout the rest of your hair. "Continue this motion back and forth, leaving the ends straight for a more undone finish," says Wilson. You can experiment with the size of each section you're waving. I find larger sections will give a softer effect, whereas smaller sections give a more piecey texture, which works well on face-framing layers.

4. Brush Out

Next, you can dishevel the waves with a wide-toothed comb to make them look even more effortless. "Let the hair cool and set before brushing out; otherwise, the style won't stay," says Wilson.

5. Add Product

"Finish with a spritz of hairspray and follow with Hair by Sam McKnight Cool Girl Texture Mist for a ‘done’ yet ever so slightly dishevelled, effortless look," says Wilson.

6. The Result

And there you have your S waves. For second-day hair, Wilson recommends misting through a salt spray, which is the perfect product to revive the waves and add grit and texture.

They're perfect for the summer months as they require very little manipulation and are quite versatile in terms of styling, New York–based braider Kamary Mingo previously told us about caring for these braids. "To keep frizz and tangles at bay, when applying products such as water, mousse, or conditioning spray, gently comb, brush, or finger detangle any knots as you see them," Mingo shares.

On the subject of hair scarves, a bandana print feels especially on-trend for summer 2026. These Western-inspired accessories add a pop of color to your beach outfit—great for elevating a classic black bikini—and protect your hair and scalp from UV rays (because scalp sunburns are just the worst, aren't they?). Sure, hair accessory trends come and go, but the patterned scrunchie will never truly disappear from our mood boards. "They’re practical for keeping hair in place while adding an effortless vacation vibe," Raziuddin says regarding oversize silk options.

Wide Headband

For a sporty-chic aesthetic, wide headbands are A+. Feel free to keep it simple with a solid-colored accessory that matches or contrasts with your natural hair hue, or find one with chic embellishments (like paillettes or seashells) for more of a playful, beachy look.

As someone old enough to have dipped my toe into Y2K beauty trends the first time around, I've got a soft spot for the pastel streaks, chunky highlights and dip-dyed ends that defined the era. After watching '90s fashion, noughties beauty and even our favourite TV shows make a comeback, it was only a matter of time before the hair colour trends followed. The use of vivid colours and unique section patterns made it so exciting to be a colourist," adds Muldoon. Sonic silver blonde hair was a big late '90s, early '00s trend, but as Reed puts it, "We’re seeing a real shift in the way people think about grey hair. Rather than feeling the need to cover every silver strand, clients are embracing their natural colour and asking how they can make it look intentional, healthy and beautifully lived in."

This isn’t about letting grey simply grow out. It’s about working with it. "Through thoughtful colour placement, glossing and soft blending, natural silver becomes part of the overall colour story, adding depth, light and dimension," adds Reed.

The copper of Y2K yore has evolved from a bold fashion statement into something much more wearable. Instead of bright orange reds, velvet copper combines cinnamon, chestnut and soft auburn tones to create richness and sophistication. "Clients still love warmth, but they want elegance over intensity. Cowboy copper feels luxurious because it's soft, multi-dimensional and catches the light beautifully," reveals Curran.

It's best suited to fair through medium skin tones wanting warmth without dramatic commitment. "Think Sadie Sink, Emma Stone and Kelly Reilly," he adds.

Golden blonde ruled the early 2000s, with glossy, sun-kissed shades becoming the signature look of stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Cat Deeley and Sienna Miller. But unlike the brassy, high-maintenance blondes of the era, today's revival is softer and richer. "This isn’t the gold of the early 2000s. Think refined honey, soft caramel, buttercream blondes and beautifully balanced golden ribbons that reflect light naturally," reveals Curran.

Since giving dedicated book fans the physical manifestation of the womanizing collegiate hockey star Garrett Graham—one half of the lead couple in Off Campus season 1, accompanied by Ella Bright as Hannah Wells—Cameli's career has shifted into high gear. With the show's massive success (Amazon Prime Video reported a record-breaking viewership of 36 million streams within its first 12 days, according to Variety) came magazine spreads, first pitches at Chicago White Sox games, and now beauty campaigns. Remember those umber, scene-stealing curls we talked about earlier? Yeah, they landed their own Tresemmé deal.

Ahead, Cameli fills Who What Wear in on life after the show's splashy debut, the shrouded happenings of season 2, his future career goals, and his simple routine for those signature curls.

I've seen pictures of you in your high school football jersey with some not-curly hair—how and when did you learn to embrace your natural texture?

I didn't have a natural curl until later in high school—maybe around 18. I started growing it out more. It started getting wavy, and then I would cut it down and grow it out, and it just kept getting curlier.

Growing up, my hair was poker straight, so there was a whole period of time that I suddenly had curly hair and could not figure it out for the life of me, which is why I'm really happy to have Tresemmé on my side today. They make it so easy, so I don't really have to think about it. I just go in with their three new products in the Bouncy Curls line, and it takes no time at all. I can just go about my day. But I've struggled—learning the curly-hair [routine] later in life with no help was difficult.

We just spoke with your costar Stephen Kalyn (Dean Di Laurentis) about season 2. How is filming going so far?

It's great! We're having so much fun. We're all very busy, and we're just really proud of the show. We're working on episodes 3 and 4 right now, and these scripts are really impressive. It's just nice to be back with everybody—the cast, the crew, and our creators. It's been a blast. We love shooting the show.

Kalyn told me that you once called him on a day off just to tell him about your high school football experience.

Oh, I call him randomly every single day, and he calls me too! We talk all the time; we just get along so well. He's from the suburbs of Toronto. I'm from the suburbs of Chicago. We have similar trajectories and stories. We're the same age, we started acting at the same time, and obviously, this show happened to us together. But yeah, I gave a 30-minute soliloquy about my high school football team. He was like, "Okay," and honestly, I've heard him talk about hockey and his hockey teams for hours on end, so whatever!

That's how friendship works! How does this season—both the filming process and show itself—feel different than season 1?

It doesn't really feel all that different. It's almost the same crew, so it was kind of like we took a break and came back home, you know?

Obviously, we're aware of the attention the show has gotten, but that doesn't really affect us while we're working, so the days on set feel very familiar. It almost feels like no time passed at all between season 1 and season 2, which has been really nice. I'd say the biggest difference is that when we're shooting on location, there are more [fans] around.

If you could describe season 2 in three words, what would they be?

Ensemble, love, and friendship. I haven't had time to think of a good three yet, but those three are definitely in there—lemme tell ya.

They definitely count. It must have been nice to jump back into filming after such a crazy press run of a summer.

It was. It was so nice to have work and to be all together right after the press run and the release of the show. We got to come back into our bubble. For me—and I think for them too—having work is a real privilege.

How does it feel to have your career explode the way it did this summer—to not only be in such a famous role but to also land campaigns with brands like Tresemmé?

It's been really interesting. I think a lot of actors hope for the audience that we've garnered now. I feel really honored to have new fans of my work. I'm really grateful for the opportunity that it's presented me—when it comes to my next jobs, when it comes to partnering with Tresemmé and their great line of Bouncy Curls products, and getting to talk about my hair. It's really nice, and it's been an adjustment, but it's been cool. [But] my day-to-day is pretty much the same. All the things I'm seeing with my eyes are no different.

Since you've been acting for a minute now, is there a beauty hack that you learned on set that changed the way you get ready?

Eye patches go a long way for me. I'm a tired boy most of the time, so letting those soak in is totally cool. When it comes to my hair, turning my head upside down and scrunching is essential to getting those curls right. You've got to do your hair upside down a lot of the time.

And if I want my hair to look good, I usually have to use a diffuser somewhere in the process. If I want to completely air-dry my curls, they end up looking incredible, but that takes so much time. Once you get the Defining Cream in there and put a little mousse in, give it that shape, then go in with the diffuser, and set it and forget it, it's great.

I know you're busy shooting Off Campus until early fall, but do you have any other upcoming projects that you can share with us?

I do, but not [ones] that I can share. There's some really fun stuff that I'm looking at with my team right now, and hopefully, we'll get season 3 for Off Campus. In the time between, I'm really looking forward to going to work and shooting some features. There's some fun stuff I can't say, but I'm really just excited to be on set more. I want to spend all my time on set—literally all my time. So hopefully, that's what I'll get to do.

I'm curious—do you guys see the TikTok edits? Are you sending funny comments to each other? Can you laugh at everything?

We definitely can laugh at it. I'm not on TikTok. I'm not on the internet, really, unless it's, like, woodworking videos on YouTube. But there are a lot of pink-helmet videos that go around that we really enjoy. People have really given the pink helmet the life that it's deserved online. I've seen some of the edits of the show, and a lot of them are extremely impressive, [even] just from an editing standpoint. I've seen plenty of it. It's all fun, weird, and cool. It's just wild, honestly.

There's been a lot happening this summer. Between the World Cup, your breakout show, and filming, there's a lot to obsess over. What are you obsessed with right now?

I'm so predictable: It's Chicago White Sox baseball. The Cubs and the Sox are both doing really well right now. There's a lot of good baseball happening on the South Side. I'm obsessed with driving my car. I bought this 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser from Japan. It's this little diesel engine with four-wheel drive, and I love driving it so much. Vancouver is a gorgeous place to drive around, and I'm also obsessed with getting eight hours of sleep whenever possible.

I hear you guys are up early doing hockey practices!

Yeah, we do a lot of boot camps. We are in the throes of filming right now, so when we're shooting, we're on the ice for 12 to 16 hours, which ends up really hurting your feet but being good practice.

The shooting schedule, on top of other fun stuff we have going on outside the show, keeps us pretty busy, so when I know I have a night when I can get eight hours of sleep, I get so excited. I'll have, like, 100 dreams and try to write them all down in the morning.

Speaking of dreams, your life is opening up in big ways these days. What are some new personal and career goals that you've set for yourself?

I really want to wear multiple hats at some point as a filmmaker. I never really knew when the next step toward directing would be, and right now, I'm realizing that if that's going to happen, it won't be in a way that I foresee. … I really just want to go to work as an actor, build out a diverse body of work, play unpredictable characters, and work in different genres and arenas, so right now, my vision is honestly the same as it's always been. I want to do things that are different from the others that I've done.

I've done a decent amount of comedy television now, and I've done some genre films, some drama. I've played in this YA space a couple of times, and I really just want to protect the vision of doing different things and work with cool filmmakers that I like. It's a pretty broad goal, but my goal is just to work. I really love being on set, so that's where I want to be.

The softly diffused finish works just as well with a T-shirt and jeans as it would a wedding guest dress, making it a versatile option for everyday styling and a special occasion ‘do. But does the trend work for every hair type? Rodger certainly thinks so, but you need to tailor how you approach the styling depending on whether you have textured or naturally straight hair.

“For textured hair, I’d focus on enhancing what’s already there rather than fighting against it,” Rodger explains. “Using a diffuser, some curl-defining products and gently brushing out once the hair has completely cooled can create a really beautiful version of the look, while still maintaining the hair’s natural character.”

“However, for naturally straight hair, you will need to build the shape first,” Rodger says. “I’d use a large barrel tong or rollers to create soft curls throughout the hair and then leave them to cool completely before brushing through.”

The biggest mistake that people make when attempting the brushed-out curl trend, according to Rodger? “Stopping when the curls look perfect. Don’t be afraid to brush the curls out,” he says. “Most people spend ages creating curls only to leave them exactly as they are. To me, braids are synonymous with the summer season. Not only is this hairstyle a foolproof way to look polished with minimal effort throughout the warmer months, but it’s also a great opportunity to give my hair a break from the silk presses, blowouts, and extensions I often opt for throughout autumn and winter.

Miles Davis once said, "Man, sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself." I think the same is true of appearance; sometimes it takes a long time to look like yourself, too. For me, it started with a dramatic haircut at the age of 16. Previously, my dark blonde, wavy hair fell long past my waist. At that time, I was deep into a fierce obsession with the 1970s, and I genuinely believed my long, beachy hair was paying homage to Iggy Pop, or perhaps, on a good day, Stevie Nicks. My wardrobe reflected this fantasy too; I had become especially enthralled by a pair of gold leather Fiorucci trousers. Suffice to say, if the outfit didn't look like an ageing rockstar, I didn't want it.

But by the time I turned 16, my relationship with my hair began to change. I was studying, and my world was expanding. I was submerged in philosophy, English literature and film. I was discovering the things that would shape the intricacies of who I am: books, clothes, ideas and the people I admired. I was becoming the sort of person I am today: someone who would rather elicit a laugh than a compliment on my appearance.

The women I admired seemed to possess a different kind of beauty. I adored the crispness of a perfectly cut suit; seeing women wear Bella Freud tailoring made my heart sing. There was something about what it projected, perhaps the professionalism and seniority it represents. The appeal wasn't separate from their minds, nor was their identity centred on appearance alone. Increasingly, I felt my long hair didn't represent any of that. By that point, I wasn't so much concerned with following conventional ideas of what was "pretty", or, as my dad liked to remind me, "fanciable". He was convinced boys preferred girls with long hair. I only cared about being chic.

The turning point was when my love affair with French culture started to bubble. I was obsessed with French films, music, men—and dare I say, cheese. Then I watched Amélie (2001). The moment I saw Audrey Tautou, that was it; I was sold on the idea of cutting my hair into a bob. If I could get close to Amélie, or at the very least, Margo in The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), I would be happy. Like most decisions I make, I was decisive. I booked an appointment and cut all my hair off. As the lengths fell around me in the hairdresser's chair, everything felt strangely right. I remember vividly how different it felt to lie in bed that night without my hair spilling across the pillow, and how strange it was to run my hands through it in the shower the next morning. But from that day forward, I knew I would never grow it long again—I was me.

Now that I’m older, it's striking to think just how monumental that haircut was. What I realise now is that I wasn't rejecting femininity; I was trying to invent a different version of it to become the woman I wanted to be. The bob felt deliberate. Long hair, in contrast, felt conventional and, to me, carried associations I didn't particularly want, to a version of womanhood that prioritised softness or prettiness. Of course, hair doesn't determine personality, but the bob seemed to suggest the alternative.

Hair historian Rachael Gibson explains, "Through most of history, white women in Western countries have been associated with long hair. It's inextricably linked to long-held ideas of femininity and beauty standards, so anything that challenges it remains connected with ideas of strength, freedom and modernity." Perhaps that's why the haircut felt so significant.

Of course, these meanings aren't universal. Gibson stresses that the symbolism of hair changes dramatically across cultures, religions and histories. In many Black communities, for example, hair carries entirely different political and personal meanings, shaped by histories of colonialism, discrimination and cultural pride. Across South Asia, East Asia and Indigenous cultures, long hair has often symbolised spirituality, ancestry or strength rather than passive femininity. The idea that long hair simply equals traditional womanhood is largely a product of white Western beauty ideals, and I recognise that my relationship with the bob belongs to that particular cultural context, not a universal one. Gibson points out that when women first adopted bobbed hair in the early twentieth century, it represented much more than a trend. "Short hair represented a shift in women's liberation and all the freedoms that came with it," she says.

Of course, I wasn't making a political statement at 17 or thinking about first-wave feminism, but that doesn't mean the cultural baggage wasn't there. The bob haircut has always carried a particular set of associations. Looking back at Louise Brooks in the 1920s, Vidal Sassoon's sharp geometric cuts of the 1960s or the power bobs of the 1990s worn by women like Anna Wintour and Linda Evangelista, again and again, the hairstyle appears on women associated with authority, creativity and independence. As Gibson puts it, "We tend to associate shorter hair with a certain type of woman: someone strong, someone cool, someone independent." And certain women have indeed become almost inseparable from their bob, whether that's Wintour or Alexa Chung.

Sam McKnight MBE, hairstylist and founder of haircare brand Hair by Sam McKnight, explains it perfectly. "The silhouette is a powerful thing. You instantly recognise someone by their silhouette. Think of Anna Wintour, Marilyn Monroe, Cleopatra! A bob has all the complexities that women do; the cut can be strong yet feminine, alluring yet commanding, strong [yet] soft and romantic."

He notes, "Alexa [Chungs]’s bob is always at the top of the Pinterest board because she knows when to make small tweaks and it feels instantly new. Whatever version of a bob she has, the essence of her is always there." Perhaps that's why the bob has endured for more than a century. It isn't one hairstyle, but hundreds. A sharp chin-length bob with blunt ends projects authority and precision. A softer French bob suggests creativity and insouciance, whilst a longer, shaggy version feels artistic, slightly rebellious and less interested in perfection. The silhouette remains recognisable, but its style can be ever-evolving. Like tailoring, it's endlessly adaptable; you can make it clean, romantic, or rock and roll.

At 17, I wanted all of those things at once. I wanted to seem intellectual without being boring, attractive without being accommodating, feminine without being conventional, in the same way as Elastica’s Justine Frischmann. "This is an updated version of sun-kissed brown as it’s the perfect in-between brown, with naturally lightened ends," explains Barron-Hough. "It can be tailored to suit both warm and cool complexions as the tones can be dialled up or down. We love hand-painting the lighter strands with a high-lift colour and glossing the roots and ends in between with a semi-permanent hair colour."

As a beauty editor, I've tested my fair share of interesting products over the years, from red light masks to foot peels, but my husband is actually the reason I’ve ended up going down the rabbit hole with hair thickening products. He’s always asking me what actually works, what’s hype, and what’s worth spending money on when his hair feels like it’s “not what it used to be”. So over the past year I’ve properly researched it, spoken to experts, and tested a lot more products than I ever expected to (he's also been a willing guinea pig). What I’ve learned is that hair thinning is rarely as simple as “just use a hair-strengthening shampoo” —it’s usually a mix of internal and external factors, and the solutions tend to be just as layered.

What’s also become really clear is that most people don’t notice thinning overnight. It’s gradual and often shows up months after an initial trigger. As Hollie Rose Clarke, stylist ambassador for Living Proof, explains: “Usually it’s not just one thing, it's part of our holistic health and wellness. Hair health is often a reflection of what’s going on internally as well as externally, and hair thinning normally begins four to six months after the trigger." That delay is what makes it so confusing—you’re often trying to fix something that started long before you noticed it. Between genetics, stress, diet shifts, hormonal changes, illness and even build-up from hard water or products, there are a lot of potential culprits. And in reality, it’s often a combination rather than a single cause.

What causes hair thinning?

Hair thinning can be triggered by a wide range of factors, and most people experience more than one at once. As dermatologist Dr Jason Thomson, consultant dermatologist and head of medical at Hair + Me, explains: “Pattern hair loss, also known as androgenic alopecia, is the most common cause of hair loss affecting both men and women. It is typically a gradual process influenced by both genetic and hormonal factors.” On top of this, stress can push hair follicles into the shedding phase, often showing up a few months later as increased hair fall. Diet, sleep, illness, seasonal changes and even rapid weight loss can also disrupt the hair growth cycle, leading to temporary shedding known as telogen effluvium.

When should you seek help from a professional?

It’s normal to shed hair daily, but there’s a point where it shifts from normal to noticeable. Thomson notes that warning signs include “more hair on the pillow or in the shower, a significant amount of hair on the brush, hair feeling less dense, a widening part, or increased scalp visibility when wet.” He adds that if multiple symptoms persist for more than three months, it’s worth seeking a consultation to understand the underlying cause. Similarly, Clarke advises that if shedding is “excessive and lasting longer than a few months, or you’re seeing your scalp show through more or have developed patchy areas, it’s time to see a trichologist.”

What lifestyle changes can you make to help make hair thicker?

This is one of those areas where consistency genuinely makes a difference, but it takes time. Clarke explains that “consistency is key for healthy hair growth and does require patience and perseverance,” with improvements often seen after three to four months. Supporting hair from the inside out is essential—Thomson highlights the importance of “a healthy diet with enough protein and micronutrients such as iron, zinc and vitamin D.” Beyond nutrition, managing stress levels, prioritising sleep and avoiding excessive heat styling can all help reduce unnecessary shedding. Simple additions like scalp massage, using a clarifying shampoo to remove build-up, or even considering water filters or hair supplements can all contribute to a healthier scalp environment.

What products and ingredients can help make hair thicker?

When it comes to products, it’s less about quick fixes and more about creating the right conditions for the hair you already have. Ultimately, it’s about building volume through both technique and product, rather than relying on one miracle step.

She says banana is gaining popularity as a broader flavor trend in food and drink. "Banana has also been gaining popularity as a broader flavor trend in food and drinks," she says. "Similar to matcha's popularity in coffee shops, 'banana bread' is a trending flavor for 2026. Over time, this lends itself to beauty. But why is this? Bananas are familiar and have a strong sensory appeal. Its versatility is key when formulating products such as lip- and haircare, where both flavor and scent play a big role." Mark my words, I will have strong, healthy hair this summer. I recently chopped it into a lob, stopped getting highlights, ceased the slick-backs to avoid breakage at my hairline, and even started taking hair-growth supplements to encourage fullness and shine. Such was the case when I noticed "Biscoff bronde" highlights on my feed. After gawking at the warm, glossy color, I immediately felt the urge to text my colorist, but first, I decided to reach out to the source—Sydney-based hairstylist Emma Russell of Studio Muse Hair Salon—for every single detail. It turns out Biscoff bronde is arguably the healthiest color trend for existing brunettes, so I don't necessarily have to nix my summer hair goals. What is Biscoff bronde?

Bronde generally refers to a cross between blonde and brunette, but according to Russell, Biscoff bronde is even richer and more candlelit without heading into redhead territory. "It's warmer than a classic teddy bronde but cooler, softer, and more natural than a cowboy copper," she explains. Made for brunettes, "the color is only a few shades lighter than the natural base, so it feels low contrast and effortless," she adds.

You know how a Biscoff cookie has that yummy, caramelized hue? That's exactly what Russell aimed to capture with this hair trend. In fact, she even came up with the concept while handing out Biscoff cookies to clients in the salon. Art imitates life, as they say. "We were trying to think of a tone people could instantly visualize and relate to, and the biscuit was literally right in front of us. The Biscoff color matched the vibe perfectly," she shares.

The best part about Biscoff bronde is that it doesn't require much maintenance, as the transition is soft and seamless thanks to that low-contrast blend, and there's no heavy bleaching involved. This is great news for someone who is laser-focused on resuscitating their strands this summer. "Clients want color that feels expensive and dimensional without being overly bright or high-maintenance," Russell adds. As hair color trends lean toward warm, natural-looking tones this summer, Biscoff bronde is poised to skyrocket in popularity.

What to Ask for at the Salon

The hair trend has certainly made the rounds on social media (Russell's original video has 500,000 views and counting!), but let's be honest. It's not like you can saunter over to your colorist and simply ask for Biscoff bronde. Instead, Russell has a few suggestions depending on your natural base hue.

"For darker bases like brunettes, I'd usually recommend a level seven highlight tone, while lighter bases can sit more around a level eight or nine. If someone has naturally very dark brown or black hair, I'd also suggest softly breaking the base color to create more cohesion and reduce contrast between the highlights and natural hair," she shares. She creates balayage highlights with a high-lift tint, which is a specific type of dye that lifts color multiple levels without traditional bleaching agents. However, it only works on hair that's never been colored. If you have highlights already, you may want to wait until those grow out and apply the high-lift tint only on the roots.

How to Maintain Biscoff Bronde

Biscoff bronde is relatively easy to maintain—especially if you go the no-bleach route—but that being said, color-treated hair will always require a bit of TLC. "Summer usually means more sun, swimming, and heat exposure, so depending on lifestyle, the tone may need refreshing a little more often than usual," says Russell. "I generally recommend a gloss refresh every eight to 12 weeks to keep the color looking rich, glossy, and fresh while maintaining that soft warmth."

I have no problem saying that I’m picky when it comes to hair products. It’s not necessarily by choice either—my hair is generally hard to please, and after a long journey, it’s something I’ve come to accept. I have type-4, low-porosity coils that get extremely dry and brittle if I don’t use the correct products. Unsurprisingly, I discovered this through trial and error. I realized that, much to my frustration, most products just weren’t working for me because they featured ingredients like coconut oil (a huge no-no for low-porosity hair), protein (too much can make your hair dry if you don’t need it), and silicones. Those ingredients don’t work at all for my already-dry hair, but sadly, most hair products (even ones for curls) feature them.

Just when I was about to give up hope that anything would work well for my hair long-term, Olaplex came in and saved the day. I’ve always been a fan of Olaplex’s formulas, but my only issue with the original Bond Maintenance system was that it just needed to offer a bit more hydration for my bone-dry hair. Apparently, the hair gods were listening when I silently prayed for a curl collection because, recently, the brand came through.

Olaplex now offers the No. 5 Curl Bond Shaper collection, and it’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of. I went in with pretty low expectations considering my hair is so picky, but the formulators at Olaplex really know what they’re doing. I finally feel seen and like someone out there in the formula room gets my hair type. The collection is perfection bottled, and I had to share all my thoughts about it below.

Let’s start with the shampoo in this collection. I wash my hair twice a week to prevent buildup, and it’s hard to find one that properly cleanses without stripping my dry hair. This one strikes the perfect balance. It’s designed to have enough kick that it removes buildup and excess oil while also adding hydration to curls and reducing breakage and frizz, all while detangling. I was really impressed with the detangling aspect. Normally, shampoos don’t really do that for me because my hair is dry, but this one detangled so quickly I was almost in a state of shock. That sounds dramatic, but when you use literally every shampoo under the sun that claims it will do the same and you end up disappointed, it’s a big deal when it actually happens.

The shampoo is excellent, but that’s only the beginning with this collection. These formulas are specifically designed not to create protein or silicone buildup, which can dry out the hair massively. Again, I feel seen. Instead, it does contain what the brand calls 3D Bond Shaper technology, which builds disulfide bonds to repair, strengthen, and add definition to curls. Using the conditioner is where the real magic happens.

It features much of the same technology as the shampoo but also contains a host of natural oils to add softness and definition along with a silicone alternative derived from squalene-rich olive oil for enhanced slip. I was initially a tad worried about this because I’ve used other conditioners that contain silicone alternatives that did not sit well, but once again, I was proven wrong. This formula is so thoughtful and well-developed for tricky hair types. It actually does everything it promises, and I feel like my hair will only get better over time.

I’ve been using this system for over a month now. I condition my hair almost every day because it’s so dry and I’ve noticed that my curls have so much more definition and it doesn’t knot up like it used to. That alone is genuinely miraculous when you have hair like mine. Everything else I’ve used previously has just been okay. I honestly just accepted that my results would just never look like the models’ many of these products are advertised on, but for the first time, I actually feel like a system has made a genuine and noticeable difference in my hair. It’s stronger, I find less hair in my brush every day, and it’s so much softer and more manageable.

"At home: blow-dry with a round brush for volume, or leave to air dry for an effortless finish." If you're thinking of going for a bob hairstyle, then summer is the perfect time to go for the chop.

If you want a different short haircut, then don't overlook the mullet, which is getting a modern twist for 2026. "The mullet is back— longer at the back, shorter on the sides and front," says DeCarlo. "It's edgy, without being too committed to change if someone wants to try something new," he says. It's a great cut to go for if you're growing out a pixie cut, too. "In the salon, ask for a disconnected cut with length kept through the nape and a textured, cropped finish up top," says DeCarlo. "At-home style using a light matte paste for definition, or leave it undone for a relaxed feel," he says.

"For those who want low-effort with styling, the textured shag is the cut of the summer," says DeCarlo. "This cut works beautifully for everyone, especially for those growing out a pixie who are craving something longer, and messier hair is having a real moment right now," he says. "In the salon, ask for soft, shaggy layers with plenty of texture throughout. And to style at home, spritz through some salt spray on damp hair, leave to air dry and you're done."

Wanting to keep your longer lengths? '90s face-framing layers are the haircut to bookmark for your next salon visit. "90s layers offer pure nostalgia," says DeCarlo. Think face-framing layers and angles at the front with a blunt finish at the bottom, which creates seamless movement. It's gorgeous worn sleek or with a voluminous 90s blow-dry," he says. Eagland recommends using a large round brush to create the bounce, but you can also get the look with a hot brush if you want to dry and style at the same time.

"Shaggy layers were made for summer, and this cut is perfect for those who want minimal effort and a lot of movement on medium and long hair. It's perfect for air-drying on hot days, beach trips, or holidays, too," says DeCarlo. "In the salon, ask for lived-in layers with a choppy, undone finish. Then at home, scrunch in a styling cream or salt spray on damp hair and let it air dry. Or enhance your air-dried hair with curling tongs for a bit more of a polished finish," he says.

Thinking of a fringe for summer? DeCarlo tells me that it's a great way to tweak your style without undergoing a drastic change. "There are two fringe options that transform your look without changing your entire haircut," he says. "A curtain fringe is perfect for summer, and you can wear your hair up, and you still have a style with the fringe down. Or, wispy fringes sit shorter at the brow for a chic edge," he says. "In the salon, ask for either a centre-parted curtain fringe, or a feathered fringe cut shorter at the centre, sitting at the brow," says DeCarlo. "At home, a quick blow-dry of the fringe alone and you're polished in minutes."

"Think airy supermodel blowouts with lots of movement, soft bends instead of structured curls, and loose texture that looks natural rather than overly styled." Though a blowout may not be the first thing you think of when the words "low-maintenance" and "easy" are involved, Gard says a good styling session can be the thing that saves you the most time down the line.

Whether it's the residuals from Wuthering Heights or the trip down beauty memory lane to 2006 that we all seem to be taking this year, crimped hair is back in an effortlessly chic and updated way. "We’re also seeing a return of crimped and waved textures, but in a more modern way—subtle texture throughout the hair that gives that romantic, slightly windswept feel inspired by fashion and period dramas," says Rebecca Hall, director of consumer insights at Revlon Hair Tools.

"I think these styles are trending because people want hair that feels beautiful but realistic for everyday life, especially during summer," she adds. "There’s a growing preference for styles that work with your natural texture instead of against it while still delivering volume and polish."

"I think there’s a strong nostalgia factor influencing trends right now," says Gard. "We’ve already seen the rise of '90s blowouts and Y2K-inspired styles, and now consumers are gravitating toward softer, bohemian textures and romantic, slightly imperfect hair.” You don't need any sort of hair tool to make this one work, but if you want to take things up a notch, keep scrolling.

"The secret to beautiful air-dried waves and curls is building the right foundation—definition, minimal frizz, and styling that supports the hair’s natural pattern," says Gard. Whether your hair falls between 2A "ghost waves" or 4C coils, it's important to know how to enhance (and dry!) your natural texture safely. There seems to be countless bobs trending at any one time, so understanding exactly what defines a tapered bob is crucial if you’re thinking about asking your hairdresser for this cut. “It’s a bob that gradually gets shorter towards the nape of the neck, creating a neat, close-fitting shape…with a soft, streamlined silhouette,” explains hair stylist Elliot Bute from Hershesons, Fitzrovia. While some people use the term interchangeably with graduated bob, Bute does point out that they aren’t the same cut. “The two styles do overlap, but a graduated bob relies on stacked layers to build volume at the back,” he explains.

Who Suits a Tapered Bob?

As someone with textured hair, I’m always on the fence about going short for fear that my cut will end up looking blocky or overly volumised. However, Bute believes the beauty of the tapered bob is that it is so versatile and works on most hair types. “Fine hair can look fuller, thick hair benefits from having some weight removed, and natural waves add movement to the cut,” he says. “The key is tailoring the shape to the individual’s hair density and face shape… maybe with some subtle graduation or layering to enhance the tapered silhouette.”

"The common theme is low-maintenance luxury," Ballance adds. "Clients want beautiful color that grows out gracefully and complements their natural hair rather than fighting it."

"Clients still want brightness around the face, but they don't necessarily want to be in the salon every six weeks," Ballance explains. "The goal is color that grows out beautifully and still feels polished months later," says celebrity colorist Jess Gonzalez.

The key to pulling off a melted brunette tone is to keep things almost the exact shade all around and thread scattered highlights that are just a few hairs (pun intended) lighter than the natural hue.

Gonzalez describes these brunette tones as ones that "stay within the same color family," creating the appearance of depth and eye-catching shine. "It's less about high contrast and more about creating a seamless, softer color," she states. "It feels polished, sophisticated, and low-maintenance." However, there is one step you should take to ensure your hair looks its healthiest in these dark hues: gloss. "Treatments and glosses are becoming just as important as the color service itself because healthy-looking hair is the ultimate luxury," she explains.

While most of summer's trending hues celebrate the natural tone of your hair, this particular blonde whispers, "I just got my hair done." As seen on models and tastemakers like Alex Consani and Ciara, "milk tea" blonde straddles the line between warm and cool. Gonzalez describes this shade as a "soft, neutral beige-blonde with creamy taupe undertones," creating a muted, velvety finish that sits just below icy or platinum blonde. "It gives blondes a softer, more expensive-looking feel with less contrast," she explains. "It's perfect for anyone who wants to lighten up for summer without committing to an ultrabright blonde."

Ballance calls sun-washed highlights, or soft-lights, the biggest summer trend of them all. Case in point: Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson's (aka H.E.R.) sunlit, softly highlighted curls. "Regardless of whether someone is blonde, brunette, or red, people want a color that looks like they've spent a summer outdoors rather than sitting in a salon chair all day," he muses. "Soft face-framing pieces, delicate highlights, and natural-looking brightness create movement without looking overprocessed."

Emma Stone is hairspo year-round, but her summery strawberry blonde—a recently lightened hue that she debuted at the Louis Vuitton 2027 cruise show—is enough to make me trade my dark-brown locks for soft red. Gonzalez sees this summer's iteration being "less bold copper and more peachy-apricot blonde … with warm, golden reflections that add brightness without reading overly red." In a way, it mimics sunlight. "It's a lighter, fresher take on red tones that feels soft and glowy [and] gives blondes warmth and shine without looking too vibrant or too bold," she adds.

Before you jet off on your summer plans, Ballance has a few words of wisdom when it comes to hair color maintenance.

• Use a Leave-In: "One of the easiest things people can do is use a leave-in conditioner before heading outdoors, to the beach, or into a pool," he states. "Think of it as a protective barrier around the hair shaft that helps reduce moisture loss and minimizes damage from environmental exposure."
• Grab Your Hat: "Wear a hat whenever possible, especially during prolonged sun exposure," he advises. "We protect our skin from UV rays but often forget that the sun can fade color and dry out hair too."
• Don't Wait to Shower: "Rinse hair immediately after swimming to remove chlorine, salt, and minerals before they sit on the hair for hours," he says.
• Use a Mask (Sparingly!): "Incorporate a weekly hydrating mask to replace moisture lost from heat and sun exposure," he instructs. Just be sure not to overuse them, as this can exacerbate oiliness and drag the hair down.
• Ditch the Hot Tools: "Reduce heat styling where possible," he recommends. "Summer is the perfect time to embrace natural movement and texture."
• Get a Gloss: "Schedule regular glosses or toners if you color your hair. They can help refresh [the] shine and maintain tone between major color appointments," he says.
