Sabrina Carpenter is synonymous with a certain makeup aesthetic—it’s wide-eyed, big-lashed, and blushy. Some people say it has a vintage pinup vibe; others choose to describe it with adjectives like "baby-doll" or "coquette." Her longtime makeup artist and Armani Beauty Collective member, Carolina Gonzalez, is open to all of the internet’s interpretations and even struggles to describe it herself. "Pinup watercolor? I don’t know, pre-war? I don’t know what you want to call it!" However, she knows exactly what, or who, inspired it: Alberto Vargas, an accomplished Peruvian American pinup artist.

“Alberto Vargas was a very big inspiration for me as an artist,” she says. “That’s my world, sketching and watercoloring and all that stuff. That’s where my love began. I grew to love his work, especially the makeup in his paintings and watercolors.” Using Vargas’s work as both an inspiration and a reference, she created the now-signature makeup look in collaboration with Carpenter herself, adopting watercolor and oil-painting techniques into the makeup application process (more on that in a minute).

Recently, Carpenter took her show on the road, performing on the Lollapalooza South America tour. Then, she headed straight to the California desert to headline Coachella—no biggie. Despite the hot, humid environments, bright stage lights, and long, sweaty sets, Carpenter’s makeup continually looked flawless, and I can think of two reasons why: 1) Gonzalez’s aforementioned art-inspired application technique and 2) a selection of some incredibly long-lasting, high-performance makeup products. Ahead, read our exclusive Q&A with Gonzalez, where she opens up about what it's like being backstage, teaches us how to layer makeup for a long-lasting look, and even clues us in on the exact products Carpenter wears.

Did you set out to create Sabrina’s now-signature look, or did it happen naturally?

Sabrina is a person who really knows who she is and what she likes. She’ll come with inspo pics, and then from there, we collaborate. It really is a collaboration. I can’t take full responsibility. I just interpret, and together, we’re like, "More or less…" It just developed into that. It’s something that organically happened.

I love that she's just one of the girls with bringing an inspo pic.

She is. Most of the time on tour, it's just her. I don't know if people know that. I'm like, "Girl, I don't think you need me." She goes, "I need you!" I'm like, "Sometimes I see your looks, and I'm like, I wish I did that."

She's so good at makeup on her own, then. That’s impressive.

She knows her face. She has an eagle eye. She'll be like, "This side is longer, just by like a millimeter." And I'm like, "You're right."

Is doing stage makeup, especially for a long set, more difficult than doing makeup for a photo shoot or anything else?

Yes. It's also like a red carpet—you really see what artists are about on a carpet. You can't hide that. If you're doing editorial, you can always retouch pictures, but on carpets, those Getty [images] do not lie.

On stage, she's moving; she's dancing. It has to be locked in, and then we have the quick change. We're just dabbing off sweat, reapplying a lip if we have to.

There has to be a primer. I use the Armani Luminous Silk Hydrating & Glow-Extending Primer ($48), and I work in layers. I do like an oil-painting makeup [technique] because I find that it really locks everything in. Then, I set it with the Luminous Silk Glow Setting Powder ($69). [The quick changes] are all about the powder, a lip, an eye drop, and dab the sweat—you have no time, and it's back out there. So makeup prep is really the key. It's always the key with everything but especially for performances—the prep is dire.

What are the top three Armani products you take if you're going to do Sabrina's makeup?

The Cheek Tint ($40). Right now, we are loving the new color, 63, and I'll put a drop of 13 in there. I mix those two, and I could also do that for lips, too, if I need to. Next, I'd definitely say the Luminous Silk Foundation ($69) because it looks like skin. I can build that if I need more coverage anywhere and a lip [product]. Right now, I’m mixing the Matte Lip Power in 603 and 207 ($48). It’s like a berry mixed with a brown. I mix a lot. As long as she has a cheek, a lip, and her skin [done], we’re good.

Do you and Sabrina ever switch up her makeup look based on the specific show she's doing, outfits, or hair?

We always switch it up because of wardrobe and hair. It's all a collaboration. It's not just about makeup; it's about how we put things together. A lot of it has to do with what she's wearing.

For Argentina, we wanted everything very reflective, so I used the Armani [Eye Tint] Shimmers ($39). I just built those shimmers up. We did Prisma Glass Lip Gloss ($40). In the middle of the show, we just dabbed it off, and we kept it more on the matte side.

We play with different Cheek Tints, too. To lock it in for the stage, I will put a Luminous Silk Natural Glow Blush ($40) on top. It sets that blush and keeps the integrity of the glow, without being overly reflective. If it's like, “Okay, we're gonna carry on from the red carpet to events to the after-party,” then I'll set the Cheek Tint with a Glow Blush.

That's such a good tip. Can you tell me how it comes together before each show? Is Sabrina texting you her inspo pics hours before?

If she doesn't, then I ask. Or I'll ask her sister because the girl is doing so much! The girl is doing a million and one things at once. Sometimes it's just easier to ask her sister to get it or if she already has a look in mind. Her sister has a lot of input. She has a great eye, and she has good taste. Sarah is amazing.

Do you ever get stressed?

The only stressful part is packing up in time. I'm trying to get out the door. I love what I do. I love creating. I love the whole process of everything coming together with stylist Jared [Ellner] and hairstylist Evanie [Frausto]. I get into the feeling of things. I'm a very emotional person, and I calm myself down so much to be her weighted blanket so that she's ready to do what she has to do. That, for me, is such a blessing and an honor to do for all my clients. It's a very special moment. I treat it like a wedding. I treat it like a wedding every time.

I can't even imagine the adrenaline or the anticipation of performing for that many people.

I like to make sure my clients feel good and ready and that they can count on me for that support.

I’d love to know about the process of putting together makeup, especially when it's that layered oil-painting or watercolor effect. How long are you actually spending on Sabrina's makeup before she hits the stage?

It depends on the time they give us. She actually likes to have time to herself because, I guess, it's also meditative. And she has to prep her voice. She has to do these things, so she makes sure that she gives herself the time for that. She's great that way. Most of the time, we have two hours or two and a half hours with setup. There are breaks between those two hours. She's going to eat, go to the bathroom, you know? Sometimes it's an hour and a half. Sometimes she's like, "Just give me an hour beat."

Do you have any tips for someone who wants to re-create Sabrina's blushy watercolor look?

You can't go wrong. I’m so honored to be part of the Armani family because the makeup is amazing. Period. I'm always like, "Thank God they resigned me." Everything is buildable. You just layer it. Everything's layerable. That's the beauty of Armani.

[The] Eye Tints ($39) are perfect for wearing throughout the day. You're not going to have to reapply—same with the Luminous Silk Foundation. It looks like that's your skin. It looks natural in the daylight. I'm not seeing areas that are harsh or not blended in. That’s the beauty of it.

If you have perfect skin and you don't need anything, then do the Luminous Silk Concealer ($42). It’s buildable. Everything's buildable! That's my whole thing. As I said, I build the makeup. It's basically oil painting for me. So I would say either the Luminous Silk Foundation or maybe just the concealer. Then, a Cheek Tint. You can always double the Cheek Tint for the lips.

Or I would use Prisma Glass Lip Gloss. If you want something more matte, then I would use the 603 Lip Power Matte ($48). It looks like dark burgundy, but it's not. I would just tap that on. And the Vertical Lift Mascara ($32). It really lengthens, separates, and it's not overpowering, but then again, you can always add layers. Those are my go tos. Oh, and 99 Eye Tint as an eyeliner. That is my go-to because once it's on, it doesn't shift. It doesn't move. That's my GOAT. That’s the holy grail for me.

Last question. Her blush is so iconic. How do you place it?

I go from where your highlight would be (the top of the cheekbone), and then feather it out. I just buff it into nothingness. I don't bring it too low. When it's [up and out], it snatches you; if you're bringing in [toward the center of the face], it kind of pulls you down.

It's like a blush highlight but feathered into the eye. It always just needs to melt into the skin. That’s also why the Cheek Tint is so important to me because all the products just melt into each other. It's not like you can see where something starts. It just disperses beautifully and blends right into the skin. We also do the tip of the nose. We like it to look like she just got a little sunburn or maybe she was crying a little.

Sometimes I apply it with my fingers. Sometimes I use a wedge sponge. Then, I put the Glow Blush on top with an angled blush brush. I stamp it on top lightly to set everything.

In September 2025, Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani passed away at age 91, leaving a 50-year legacy. For the fall 2026 season, Silvana Armani—Mr. Armani's niece and collaborator for over 40 years—stepped into the role of womenswear creative director and debuted her first ready-to-wear collection at Milan Fashion Week.

Silvana's solo collection for the Italian house maintained the brand's timeless, elegant charm while adding a fresh sense of exploration. The brand described it in a press release as "a new perspective on the Armani style," emphasizing its drapey and "perfectly imperfect nature." The collection highlighted the harmony between contrasts—soft versus structured, constructed versus free-flowing. Outerwear lacked padding and rigidity, with long jackets flowing naturally and moving with the wearer. Silvana Armani's Debut

Silvana, who spent over four decades working alongside her uncle at Giorgio Armani, has successfully stepped into his role following his passing. Her collection felt distinctly created by a woman for women. Silvana focused on the redefined Armani woman—someone who confidently moves between past memories and the present. The collection treated the past not as something to forget but as a foundation to acknowledge, reinvent, and bring forward. This was achieved by combining practicality with elegance while staying true to Armani's heritage and design codes.

Fluid Tailoring

The fall 2026 collection was rooted in the concept of "Exploration as a state of mind in constant pursuit: a way of reading landscapes—even familiar ones—in ever-changing ways," as noted in the brand's press release. This philosophy was reflected in the collection's soft yet defined silhouettes, featuring fluid trousers and jackets stripped of padding. This approach to soft tailoring evoked the quiet power of landscapes. Like the layered shapes of peaks and valleys, the clothing was intentionally draped, creating a feeling that is protective, practical, expansive, and graceful.

The Armani Way to Layer

The fall 2026 collections so far have highlighted the art of layering. Key examples include Tory Burch's crewneck sweaters over collared shirts, Prada's sheer skirts over chunky knits and button-downs, and Burberry's hefty faux-fur scarves worn with double-breasted jackets. Armani, however, interpreted the trend in its own way. The brand focused on layering lightweight jackets and pullovers, revealing a sheer turtleneck underneath. This contrast, particularly between the sheer blouse and rich cashmere knits or wool outerwear, created an intriguing visual moment. Additional layering included long tunics over knit tops and relaxed trousers, as well as scarves wrapped around the upper body and tucked into leather belts.

The Burgundy Thread

Burgundy proved to be a consistent theme throughout the collection. Though most prominent on leather belts used to anchor trousers, the shade also appeared on long wrap jackets, dresses, trousers, and handbags. Known and loved by the style set as a chic alternative to black, Armani demonstrated the versatility of the deep bordeaux hue by pairing it with sage green, gray, white, charcoal, navy, and blue lapis.

Velvet Galore

Silvana closed the narrative of the Armani women's collection, focusing on rich velvet fabrics in deep burgundy and navy. These opulent materials were used in various ways: velvet cocooning jackets were paired with silk tops and pleated trousers, while matching velvet turtlenecks and pants were layered under embroidered open-style jackets. Silvana also used the fabric in dresses with deep-V, strapless, and high-neck styles, embellished with a delicate shimmer.

Last night, London hosted one of the most anticipated nights in film. The 2026 BAFTAs were held at the iconic Royal Festival Hall. Although most eyes are probably on the iconic red carpet fashion moments that dominated last night, as a beauty writer, my eyes were set solely on the makeup, hair and nail looks that I want to recreate for myself. And after spending all morning scrolling through the best BAFTA 2026 beauty moments, my thoughts are set firmly on one in particular—Ellie Bamber’s sheer makeup look, courtesy of Armani Beauty.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m somewhat of a makeup minimalist, so it should come as no surprise that this sheer, glowy full-face caught my eye. The Inspiration

"Ellie’s beautiful dress was the inspiration behind the makeup, echoing the sheerness of the fabric through matte texture on the lid and super-fresh, glowing skin. Ellie has the most perfect pale complexion, so we keep it cool on the eyes using sheer browns and greys over the lid, and lots of mascara. Cheeks felt flushed and youthful, whilst the lips were a very considered nude," says Taylor.

The Application

1. Apply blush high on the cheeks for a flushed look.
2. Apply the deeper eye tint next to the lash and the lighter shade over the lid, buffing into the lid and lash line to create depth. Layer the colours like an oil painting.
3. Apply gloss onto the centre of the lipstick to create a fuller pout.
4. I love to apply the luminous silk finish with a regular foundation brush and then use a fluffy brush to blend it into the skin seamlessly.
5. I find the foundation is so skin-like, which I love for a red-carpet finish.

Armani Beauty's Luminous Silk Foundation is one of the most iconic complexion products in the game, beloved by makeup artists, aestheticians, and beauty editors alike since its initial launch over 25 years ago. "Probably my longest, most reliable relationship that I have with a product," celebrity makeup artist Kelli Anne Sewell gushed during our WWW 100 Beauty Awards. For my own wedding this year, my long-wear foundation pick was a no-brainer—Luminous Silk, all the way.

So when I heard that the brand decided to reformulate such a hero, I (along with plenty of other Luminous Silk loyalists) was a bit hesitant to give up my precious OG bottle. The previous formula was already pretty effing spectacular; why reinvent the wheel? Yet after testing the new-and-improved Luminous Silk for months and learning firsthand about the development process, I can attest that the upgraded foundation completely exceeds expectations. And I'm not the only one who's on board. Scroll ahead to discover why makeup artists and even hard-to-please Redditors also declare it a new icon, along with my personal testing results.

The Formula

Rest assured the buildable, long-wearing capabilities of this foundation remain the same—if not better. It features a new "liquid silk" technology to replace the formula's patented "micro-fil" pigments that, according to the brand's head of makeup R&D, Rena Hayashi, offers even more long-lasting performance. "It is a unique oil blend with advanced fillers," she tells me of the high-tech addition. Like the name suggests, the blend creates a smooth, velvety effect that looks just like—you guessed it!—liquid silk.

Speaking of pigments, Armani also expanded the shade range, creating 18 new iterations for a total of 44 gorgeous hues. "A new green pigment has allowed us to expand the shade range for those with olive undertones, providing a more accurate match," Hayashi explains. "Additionally, an ultramarine blue pigment was incorporated into our deeper shades. This innovation helps to enhance luminosity and intensity in the makeup finish. … Each shade has a unique receipt, just like each skin tone is unique."

The ingredients themselves are still noncomedogenic, but the new formula does come spiked with more hydrating skincare players, namely glycerin and niacinamide. "Consumer needs evolve day by day," Hayashi shares. And in today's market, skin-caring benefits are no longer a perk for makeup formulas—they're expected. "On top of beautiful makeup finishes, the consumer is now expecting products that are caring to the skin," Hayashi adds. Rest assured, though: That finish stays perfectly luminous.

The Application and Wear Time

The best thing about Luminous Silk is, hands down, its weightless, filter-like finish. There's a reason celebrity makeup artists consider it a godsend for red carpet events! That said, Carolina Gonzalez (who frequently paints the faces of Sabrina Carpenter, Gigi Hadid, and Hailee Steinfeld) has noticed even better improvements to the finish and payoff. "What I noticed with the old formula was that it sometimes picked up texture," she admits. "I would usually just add a bit of powder if I felt some texture was being emphasized since it was so luminous."

The new formula (which Gonzalez has had in her kit since July—"Lucky me!" she quips) boasts a noticeably smoother consistency that settles effortlessly—appearing like the best version of your skin. "I feel like it doesn’t pick up texture in the same way," she shares. "At the same time, it still feels moisturizing and wears beautifully throughout the day."

The new version lasts even longer than the OG bottle (as if that were even possible!). "The old formula also wore well, but I didn’t realize this new one is long-wear for up to 24 hours, which is definitely an added bonus," Gonzalez says. I can personally attest to its extra longevity—more on my experience in just a moment—and so can other shoppers, who swear by it from sunup to sundown. "I did my usual primer, setting powder, and setting spray and this lasted till freaking 9 p.m. when I took it off (since 6 a.m.)," one Reddit user writes.

My Experience and Results

As I mentioned, Luminous Silk is my ride-or-die foundation. I wore it on my own wedding day this past November, if that tells you anything about my obsession! I was able to swatch the top-secret upgrade over the summer, but it wasn't until December that I finally snagged a full-size bottle. I applied it on my busiest workday—a back-to-back meeting schedule followed by a late-night holiday party—and from there I was hooked.

Like Gonzalez mentioned, the application is incredible, instantly covering up redness and uneven texture while leaving behind a veil of luminosity. I don't even need to follow up with powder; the foundation alone—plus a touch of concealer under my eyes and around my nose—is enough to keep me looking velvety all day long. I'll dispense one pump on my hand, swirl a dense complexion brush into the product until all its bristles are well-coated, then stipple the foundation on my skin in thin layers. This way, I can have more control over the coverage and ensure I don't wind up with globs of product. (Gonzalez herself cosigns the technique!)

Post-holidays, my skin has been acting up with inflammation and breakouts pebbled along my forehead and chin (which I'm chalking up to an influx of holiday sweets and champagne), but one to two layers of this foundation is all I need to mask the redness and congestion. In fact, the very same day I took this picture above, a colleague later complimented me on my glowing skin. I have to say it felt like sorcery.

Interestingly, I do find the new foundation to have a slightly stronger scent. It's not overwhelming by any means, but it does have a noticeably fresh, powdery aroma. I find that the whisper of fragrance goes away as the product dries down (within minutes), but it's something to call out if you prefer a 100% fragrance-free complexion product.

Overall, I'd say the new Luminous Silk Foundation doesn't just measure up to the cult fave—it somehow performs even better. The luxury price point is certainly nothing to scoff at, but if you were down to drop $69 on the iconic foundation before, I assure you that you'll fall just as hard for the new-and-improved version. Even Luminous Silk haters (the very few that there are) have praised the updated formula, which is how you know a revamp's been done right. You simply must see the butter-skin results for yourself, but for those who remain on the fence, allow Gonzalez to have the final word: "If you think that it couldn't get better than what you already have, it did!"

Coming in second was Chanel's Le Vernis nail polish, which makes sense given the enduring popularity of Ballerina alone. Merit's Flush Balm Cream Blush was third, followed by Armani Beauty's Luminous Silk Natural Glow Foundation and another Merit standout, the Signature Lip Sheer Lip Liner.

Today marks a sad day in the fashion industry and the world, as it was announced that the legendary designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91. The designer founded his Milan-based company 50 years ago and has continued to serve as the creative director and CEO of the Armani Group. In a press release, the company shared that he "passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones," adding "he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects." It's safe to say that Armani's legacy will live on long after his passing.

Some beauty products ask for my attention; others demand it. That's the case with Giorgio Armani's Eye Tints, which have received all three major hallmarks for hype: 1) word-of-mouth recommendations from friends and fellow editors (I've heard "You have to try these!" for months), 2) social media virality (they're plastered all over my FYP), and 3) celebrity approval via Sabrina Carpenter and Addison Rae (among others). Now, I'll be the first to admit that I'm prone to beauty-product FOMO, so I couldn't let another minute pass without getting hold of one of these cream eye shadows.

Luckily, I didn't just get my hands on one, but seven, in varying shades and finishes. Then, I put them to the test over the course of a week, wearing a different shade/finish every day until I worked my way through all of them. Ahead, read my full review. (Although, spoiler alert: They're just as good as everyone says they are.)

My Review

I'll cut to the chase and say I understand the hype. These cream eye shadows are incredible for four reasons: 1) the texture, 2) the blendability, 3) the long-wearing formula, and 4) the shade range. Let me explain.

First, let's talk about the texture. It's soft and velvety, so it doesn't tug or pull on my eyelids. It's also so lightweight that it doesn't feel like I'm wearing any eye shadow at all. Second (and this is thanks in part to the velvety texture), these eye shadows blend like a dream. They don't dry down as quickly as other cream/liquid eye shadows I've used, which means I'm not in a race against the clock to blend and shape them before they set. I don't even need a brush; I can just use my fingers.

Third, the formula really does last a long time. Throughout my testing period, I applied each one in the morning and left it all day until I cleansed my skin before bed. After over nine hours, they still looked decent despite the fact that I have hooded eyes and eye shadow is prone to creasing on me. The color payoff and shimmer effect were still intact, and I only saw very minimal creasing near the inner corners of my eyelids.

Last but certainly not least, the shade range is stunning. There are so many neutral shades (in both warm and cool tones) to choose from, which makes me think there's a base match for almost every skin tone. And you can make them as subtle and natural-looking or as bold and intense as you want since they're so buildable. Don't sleep on the "fun" shades either. The icy lilac (Frost), light pink (Sakura), and rich burgundy (Mahogany) are worthy of any eye shadow collection.

I'm not a big fan of foundation. Before you ask, yes, I've already tried some of the best formulas out there. From natural-looking foundations to glowing foundations and even dewy foundations, I've put hundreds of products to the test, and I still find myself Googling "what to wear instead of foundation" on a daily basis.

The thing is, I just don't like the way they look or feel on my skin. I want a product that makes it feel as if I'm wearing nothing at all (like one of the best BB creams or skin tints, for example). The Formula

Okay, first things first, let's talk formulas. I don't know what Armani has put in this bottle, but this formula is magic. It feels incredibly lightweight on the skin (I forget that I'm wearing makeup every time I use it), yet it offers buildable coverage and a blurring effect on the skin thanks to exclusive Micro-fil™ technology.

What I love about it is that the formula is great for all skin types. As someone with combination skin (I have a very oily T-zone but also dry patches on my cheeks and chin), I wasn't sure if this would work for me, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The hydrating foundation is infused with glycerin so it glides onto dry areas, but the fact that it's oil-free means that it doesn't feel greasy or turn shiny throughout the day (making it a great wedding-day makeup product, by the way).

The Application

As the name suggests, this foundation glides onto the skin like silk. I find I don't even need to use a primer, as this makes everything look so smooth.

There are lots of different ways to apply your foundation, but I like using a brush to apply this particular one. As mentioned above, it has buildable coverage, so I go in with a light layer at first and then focus on the areas that need a little bit more help, like my chin or forehead.

How It Wears

Those of you with oily and dry skin will know how hard it is to find a foundation that wears well throughout the day. I'm that person who always has powder and a concealer to hand to help top up my base makeup, especially if I'm going out after work. However, this foundation boasts impressive lasting powers that make evenings spent in the office toilet, topping up my makeup, a thing of the past.

Yep, somehow this foundation manages to last all day long. I will say that I still have to apply a little bit of powder about eight hours after wearing, but that's pretty impressive if you ask me. If you're looking for a formula to see you through day and night, Armani has you covered.

The Verdict

As you can probably tell by now, I'm in love with this foundation. It's a sentence I genuinely never thought I would say, but this base product does wonders at blurring the skin while still feeling lightweight enough to wear all day long. The naturally glowing finish is an added bonus, and the fact that I can build up the coverage depending on how I'm feeling is a huge plus.

Yes, this product is more of an investment, but if you've been thinking about treating yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Although you'd think the Milanese, like most inhabitants in any fashion capital, rely on black for their outfits, Mr. Armani and company prefer other sophisticated shades. In lieu of black, this recent collection featured a heavy reliance on elegant hues like chocolate brown, navy blue, and stormy gray, adding a fresh depth to the runway that reflected the subtlety and refinement Armani is known for. This collection marked 50 years for the label, which began in 1975. According to show notes shared by the brand after the show, Mr. Armani titled the F/W 25 collection Radici, or “roots” in Italian, nodding to the label's history. The pieces exuded effortless sophistication, creating a stark contrast to the bold, often over-the-top maximalism that characterizes many of today’s fashion houses. A runway show is nothing without the styling behind it. I don't have the data to support it, but I have a good feeling that I spend more time than average scrolling through the farthest corners of TikTok in search of beauty inspiration on and off the clock. I'm constantly on the lookout for commonalities shared among the app's users, tracing beauty trends from the early days of their conception to Gen Z–approved fruition. One all generations can agree on, however, is using popular faces in the beauty space as a reference for their own looks. Hungarian model Barbara Palvin is, by far, one of the most recognizable on the app and beyond—Palvin's Instagram page has garnered a jaw-dropping audience of over 20.4 million followers. 

Her presence in the beauty and fashion space has been felt nonstop, with appearances on the international covers of Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Glamour, and Elle as well as appearances on and off the runway as a Victoria's Secret Angel. Since becoming the new face of Armani's Acqua di Gioia, Palvin has become an ambassador for Armani Beauty. I tapped the model for her biggest beauty secrets, favorite products, and a breakdown of the internet-breaking bridal look she pulled off during her July 2023 wedding to actor Dylan Sprouse. There's absolutely no denying that model has a unique ability to flawlessly execute beauty trends while embracing her natural features. I've always been told I look incredibly young for my age since I was, well, young. Most recently, I hopped into an Uber and the driver asked if I had my parents' permission to ride as a minor. It's taken me years to accept my petite, girl-like features as positive traits, but in the past month, I've found ways to embrace my features thanks to hundreds of makeup tutorials with #Gamine in their captions. If you frequent Gen Z–led social media platforms, there's a high chance you've come across beauty trends aimed at embracing unique facial features. Face types aren't a new idea, but if you've never heard of the Kibbe Image Identity System, you're not alone. It's a departure from the traditional body-typing system (which has given us image-based categories from head to toe using terms like "hourglass figures" and "inverted triangle").

David Kibbe, an image consultant, introduced The Kibbe Body Types in the 1980s and created a style guide using the body-typing system. Focusing on an axis of yin (curved, soft) versus yang (angular, structured), it takes into consideration one's skeletal system and flesh on a scale of five categories, such as gamine, natural, and dramatic, then breaks those down into 13 more specified body types. This, in turn, can be used to determine the most complementary hairstyles, makeup practices, and clothing styles for each.

It's important to note, however, that Kibbe himself has stated that these specific body types shouldn't determine how a person moves throughout the world or chooses to present themselves. The body types can be helpful in figuring out how to best highlight certain features or draw attention away from others if a person chooses to do so. Makeup can be used as a transformative tool for all facial types, but today, we're taking a look at the best tips and tricks for individuals who possess perhaps the most youthful and otherwordly of the five Kibbe Body Types: gamine.

Makeup for Gamine Facial Features

We caught up with beauty expert, makeup artist, and and entrepreneur Jenny Patinkin to get the scoop on the best makeup practices for individuals with gamine facial features. "Gamine facial features tend to be delicate, so overdoing contouring can give an almost sunken or hollow look," says Patinkin. "If I do any contouring at all, it's only a subtle wash done at the part of the cheekbone closest to the ears and not extended onto the face more than one to two inches and perhaps a little on the jawline to call attention to the V shape of the jawline."

Instead, Patinkin prefers to focus on bringing a soft glow to the cheeks and a slightly contoured smoky eye to create a round, doe-eyed look with a sultry flair. "It's important to use makeup brushes sized for more delicate features instead of very large ones that can over-apply products like bronzer or contour," she tells us. Her tool of choice is her very own Sustainable Luxury Angled Multi-Blender Brush, which she uses to apply cheek products. With it, she's able to control placement in addition to creating a beautiful soft blend with minimal effort. 

"I know the temptation is to do a heavier brow with this look à la Audrey Hepburn, the ultimate gamine, but I would advise caution when it comes to squaring off the inner corner of the brow or using a very opaque color to fill in," Patinkin explains. Both can look overly harsh in contrast to one's more delicate features rather than complementing them as needed.

Maybe you recognize Sadie Sink from her breakout role as fierce friend and unapologetic adventurer Max Mayfield in Stranger Things. Maybe you know her as Ellie from The Whale or Ziggy from Fear Street. Or, maybe you're a Swiftie who cried because of her performance in Taylor Swift's All Too Well. No matter what TV show, movie, or music video you've seen her in, one thing about Sink becomes almost instantly clear after you see her on screen: She's talented. 

Sink is a natural multi-hyphenate. That became especially clear after she was announced as the newest global ambassador for Armani Beauty. She was recently featured in the Sì campaign led by Cate Blanchett. It goes without saying that this is a big deal. With rose and woody vanilla notes, the Sì fragrance is iconic and universally loved. That's why we jumped at the chance to sit down with Sink and ask her all our burning beauty questions. First, can you tell me about your partnership with Armani Beauty? What drew you to the brand, and why was it such a good fit?

I’ve been familiar with the brand basically since I started wearing makeup for events and getting my makeup done by makeup artists; they would always use the staple Armani products like the Luminous Silk Foundation ($69). Every makeup artist has been using that on me for many years. It felt organic in the sense that Armani played a big role in my beauty evolution over the years. Not only that, but everyone on the team has been so lovely, and it’s been an honor to join some of the iconic faces behind this brand.

For me, the Sì fragrance is iconic, and it’s been a favorite of mine for many years. I’ve even gotten my sister and a couple of friends to try it. What does that original fragrance evoke for you? Do you have any memories associated with it?

I actually hadn’t tried the fragrance until about a year ago. That’s when I experienced it for the first time. I was familiar with the name, and I’d seen [the] Cate Blanchett advertisements for years, so it’s iconic, and it’s been around for years, but I had never tried it.

I think I was surprised at how modern it is. It was nice to have tried it and felt like it was familiar in a way. It wasn’t too overpowering on me, and it felt youthful and warm while still having such an iconic name and history behind it. I can’t think of a specific memory that it evoked, but I guess it just felt like me, in a way, which I was pleased with.

Even though it’s such a sophisticated scent, it works for everyone. There are some fantastic versions of the fragrance. Do you have a favorite?

I think the Sì Intense ($158). That was the first one that I tried. I’m not sure why, but it’s my favorite. The Passione ($158) is probably the runner-up. I’d say those two are my favorites.

Are you a person who wears fragrance every day, or are you a person who reserves it for special occasions?

I used to only wear [perfume] for a special event, but over the last year or two, I’ve definitely started wearing it every day. I think it’s so nice to have a go-to signature scent that people associate with you. You can leave a lasting impression on someone with it—just having a connection to a scent, I think, can be really powerful, and I’ve loved having that as of recently. I’m definitely very routine with applying fragrance every day.

It’s like an accessory, isn’t it?

Yes!

Outside of fragrance, are there any skincare products you’ve loved lately?

I’ve gone on a journey with skincare and finding what works for me. Whatever I have right now is working, so it’s sticking. The one product that has stayed the same throughout the last four years is the Blue Cocoon ($180) by May Lindstrom. I don’t know if you’ve ever had the pleasure of trying that, but it’s a holy grail product for me.

It’s incredible.

And expensive! I hate spending that much money on skincare, but it lasts a really long time, like a year and a half, for me. That’s my one splurge.

I love that! Let’s talk makeup. Do you wear makeup every day, and are there any makeup products you love?

I don’t wear makeup every day. It’s never been something I’ve built into my daily routine, but if I’m getting out of the house and going to a dinner or something like that, the most I’ll probably be able to manage is a brow pencil to add a little definition—Armani has a good one, the Eye & Brow Maestro ($35), which I’ve liked recently—and concealer, maybe a little color on the lips. That’s what I can handle.

For events and stuff, I’m very lucky [that] I get makeup artists who can do a very good job, much better than I could ever do. I leave that to a full look and feel extra glamorous for a few hours.

I love a low-key makeup routine. Finally, I’d love to know what keeps you grounded when you have a demanding schedule. What helps you reconnect with yourself and feel joyful even amid a busy day?

I think just alone time. Being alone is key for me, especially with what I do. You’re around people all the time. People come in and out, and you’re always moving. The one thing I’ve realized over the last two years is that at the end of the day, it’s just you, so you have to find things that are fulfilling in your own time. Just having a moment to myself is key in terms of getting through a busy schedule.

If I ever hear the words "Tessa Thompson" and "interview opportunity" in the same sentence, my response will always be an enthusiastic yes. Thompson has always been a favorite of mine for her effortless confidence and simple approach to beauty. Her love of organic skincare products doesn't hurt either. Although the actress and Armani Beauty ambassador hasn't revealed a whole lot about her routine, I jumped at the chance to hear a few of her secrets firsthand. Thompson's been extra busy working on films such as Creed III, and she revealed a few key skincare products, makeup items, and gadgets that help keep her skin glowing when she's crunched for time. Keep reading below—she shared everything from her DIY fix for dark circles and favorite skincare tool to the $8 refreshing spray that she uses on repeat.

What are a few beauty products you always use in the morning or bring with you?

It's funny you should ask this question. … I was traveling for the Creed III press tour, and before that, I was in Japan, so I've been traveling in one suitcase for about a month and some change. I was thinking that I really need to get better at bringing less toiletries and less makeup!

I think that's a problem we can all relate to. I'm a notorious overpacker. 

It's so bad! It's really an issue for me, so it's a good thing that you're asking me this because I need to get better at this. Okay, if I can only bring a couple things, I would bring a rose-water spray. I would also bring Jao hand sanitizer ($10) because you can also use it to freshen up and as deodorant. I would take one bottle of Armani Luminous Silk [Foundation] and one concealer. I would take some lip balm, like a natural sort of lip shade. I also should bring some sunscreen.

Now, let's talk skin prep! What are your favorite skincare products at the moment? 

It really depends on just how much time I have and how tired I am. Sometimes, I don't wake up early enough. I'm definitely way more into gadgets and different things like using a gua sha tool. I feel like I've learned a lot more from different folks that properly use things, and particularly because I travel a lot, I think it's nice just being able to de-puff. I've gotten better, and I've gotten savvier because I don't spend a lot of time on beauty, but I've gotten savvier in multitasking with those things. Sometimes, … I'll set an alarm a little earlier than I need to, and then I'll just pop up, rinse my face with water, put a little oil, and then lay back in bed and use the gua sha and do lymphatic drainage while I'm still in bed [laughs]. So I'm still half asleep, basically, or I'll put on an episode of Emily in Paris and pop on an LED light mask. 

I've gotten way better at fitting in all of those things while I'm doing other things because who has 30 minutes to give yourself a facial every day? But I think something that has really changed my skin, too, is just making sure it's properly cleaned, especially in periods where I'm busy and I'm wearing a lot of makeup. I never really understood the double-cleansing thing [until now]. I have started to do that, and it makes such a big difference. Okay, I'm giving a little secret of mine. There is this beauty line that is all-natural, and it feels like you can eat the products. This one I feel like I accidentally have eaten a little! It's Simply Divine Botanicals.

Simply Divine Botanicals is amazing. They make my favorite body butter, which is called How Now Brown Cacao ($35)—they all have really funny names. There's also this mask that you can use daily, and it's called Honey, I Shrunk the Pores ($34). It's so cute, and it's safe to use daily, and you could spread it on toast. It looks sort of like a marmalade or something, but it's really great, and everything's natural. They also make a really lovely foot cream, but everything's super natural, and it reminds me of the beauty products I would see in my mom's bathroom growing up—just things that are super natural and that your skin just really, really loves. I definitely think being intentional—like doing a lot of exfoliating, especially when I'm wearing makeup—has really changed my complexion and made it a lot brighter.

What would you say your everyday makeup routine looks like?

It's pretty simple but has also become slightly more complicated because I've gotten into gadgets and tools and stuff. On a perfect day, I would have a minute to do some of that stuff like skin prep. It would be a toner, some moisturizer depending on what the weather's like and what my skin needs. I have gotten really into primer, and Armani Beauty makes a lovely primer that I use now if I'm going to do makeup. Typically, an everyday thing for me is a no-makeup makeup [look]. [I like] just a little bit of foundation. Sometimes, I'll even mix it with my moisturizer, serum, or a little bit of oil. I like to use corrector under my eyes, so a little bit of orange, then a little bit of concealer, and then not that much powder—maybe just in the middle of my face. Then I use some rose water, and off I go. For every day probably, I would wear Armani's Lip Power Lipstick because it's really moisturizing, and if I'm not doing a color color, I would do something closer to my natural lip color and work it out almost like a stain, and that would be a good five-minute makeup look.

Something that's really good is using a liquid highlighter too! Sometimes, I will mix that with a little bit of foundation, a little bit of oil, and then it'll give sort of a sheen. Remember when BB balm was so big? Kind of like that!

Yes! It'll give you a really natural, dewy glow. 

Exactly. You mix a little bit of Armani's Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer ($33) with a little bit of foundation, a little bit of oil, and even a little bit of moisturizer. I just take a blush brush and just lightly brush that across my face. That's an easy no-makeup makeup look and creates a healthy glow.

I know you already mentioned a few, but what are your all-time favorite Armani Beauty products?

I have so many! The Luminous Silk Foundation is why I'm really happy to get to represent this brand and this product because I've been using it for so long and, at the time—I know this sounds silly to say about makeup—it really was life changing when I discovered it because I had been working mostly in television and on some indie films. I was a young actor, and I would sit in chairs, and artists would have such a hard time shade-matching my skin. At the time, there weren't a ton of brands that had a wide range of shades. And typically, they would put stuff on me, and I would look either orange, or I would look ashy. Then, I had my first big red carpet, and an artist used Luminous Silk on me, and he actually mixed two shades—one that was way too light for me and way too dark for me—and made his own special thing. Then he said, "You should look into this brand," and I did. I remember going to a department store and finding something. It was the first time there was a shade that was right for me and came out of a bottle.

Not just for me, but for friends and family, it's been so easy for me to color-match for people in my life because there's such a wide range of shades. Their foundation really did help me feel and look like myself when I was at work. As I mentioned, their primer's really good. Another thing that I have discovered more recently in the last couple of years is the Fluid Sheer, which is so beautiful. You can use it, as I said, mixed with your foundation, and so many of their products are so user-friendly. I'll be done with a full face of makeup and set it, then I can use Fluid Sheer and put it right on top, and it doesn't do anything weird or funky to the makeup. It sits perfectly and just makes you look really dewy. I also love to use it on my shoulders or my clavicle if I have skin showing, and it just gives you this very healthy, dewy look. I find that with some highlighters, you can sort of see the glitter a little too much. My approach is usually to do pretty easy makeup, so I like it to be a little more invisible. This one can be, but it's also buildable, so if you want it to be a bit more dramatic, you just use a little more when applying.

Luminous Silk is one of my all-time favorite foundations too! It's great for acne-prone skin, and the highlighter is great as well. 

Yes! Their cream blushes are also really nice. You can also use them on your lips or use them on your eyelids too.

Do you happen to have a favorite Armani fragrance?

What's funny is that I actually like some of the masculine scents too! They're really good. I got into it again because my friend [Regé-Jean Page] became the face, and I was like, "What's this about?" And then I tried it, and I really loved the way it smelled on me too [laughs]. Even some of my favorite pieces of clothing from Armani are a man's suit or a blazer. I also love that there are beautiful accessories, too, that are technically for men, but they also feel really fluid, and they're just beautifully made. I kind of feel the same way about the fragrances.

Is there anything about your beauty routine that might surprise people?

Yes! This is a hack I discovered that I really like, but it requires time and, in some cases, a trip to the market, but it's really great. I have discoloration under my eyes. It's just something that, regardless of how much I sleep, exists, but certainly, if I'm really not well-slept, my eyes can get quite dark under there. Because I also like to [keep things] really simple in terms of my own beauty routine, sometimes concealer can just make it worse, you know? I love to correct, but also, if I have the time and I can get to a market, I just take pure buttermilk (you can also do it with goat's milk yogurt) or any kind of nice yogurt and just mix it with turmeric. Then, you take a little paintbrush or makeup brush (because the turmeric can stain your fingers), and you just apply it under your eyes and leave it on for like 15 minutes. Then you have to wash your face pretty vigorously underneath there, obviously being careful because it's a sensitive area. But it really helps with under-eye circles. I have found it very helpful when I have the time.

I will definitely try that because I love a DIY moment! You've also talked about your love for Japan on Instagram. Did you pick up any good skincare products or beauty secrets while you were there?

They have the most amazing beauty products. They have a lot of really great skincare. The only trouble was that there was too much of it. [A lot of products are] also labeled in Japanese, so it's hard to know exactly what you're getting. I definitely spent a lot of time at a store called Tokyu Hands that is impossible to even describe it. They have basically everything you could ever want, from stickers to fabric. I definitely went makeup shopping and looked at things in Japan, but something I think they have that we haven't quite cornered the market on is really, really thin eyeliner—like superfine. I think there are also a couple of eyeliners that are similar and Korean. They're really nice, and I'm trying to get better at doing eyeliner.

When you take [your eyeliner] really straight up, it just brings your eyes up. That's something I was definitely inspired by in Japan. I would see a lot of women there that would wear eye shadow during the day and in really beautiful peach colors—almost blush, but just a really pigmented wash of color. I also saw a lot of girls that would wear very fine glitter during the day. I definitely found myself inspired to wear a lot more eye makeup during the day, and Armani actually makes a bunch of these very pigmented eye shadows that are sort of creamy in texture. It's easy to take your fingers and create a quick wash of color, and a lot of them are actually metallic. When I came back from Japan, I found myself taking some of those out, especially the iridescent gold and silver because that seems to be very popular now. It was such an inspiring trip.

I don't like to spend a lot of time doing my makeup. There, I said it. I'm a total makeup minimalist these days and I'm not really sorry about it. That's why more often than not, I reach for Armani Beauty products. And while "all three formulas are fantastic,” according to celebrity makeup artist Min Min Ma, "liquid blushes last longer on the skin and [leave] a stained glow-from-within look.” Even better, they’re incredibly versatile. Recently, I wrote about how I was getting back into the world of designer fragrances after a long hiatus in which I only wore more niche perfumes such as those from Byredo, Diptyque, and Le Labo. While it's true that these perfumes still make up the foundation of my fragrance wardrobe, and you'd have to pry them out of my cold, dead hands if you wanted me to get rid of them, I've since opened myself back up to other offerings. If you clicked on this article, there's a good chance that you, like so many others, have been on the hunt for a blush that does everything you need it to and more. I've always preferred a naturally flushed finish to my makeup—which, at times, has been challenging to accomplish given my deep skin tone and a seemingly jarring lack of complementary blush shades among the products trending on social media platforms. How to Choose the Right Blush

Despite the overwhelming results accompanying an internet search for "the best blushes," shopping for your ideal blush can be made simple. One of the biggest determining factors when I'm on the hunt for a new blush product is, without a doubt, its formula. Most blush formulas fall into one of the following categories: powder, cream, gel, or liquid. Recently, cream-based blush formulas have been on the rise, with makeup lines providing them as alternate versions of their best-selling powder blush products. I flock toward cream and gel blushes that have a sheer yet buildable quality to them since they tend to allow space for teeny-tiny mistakes and a chance to build up the product to my desired pigment. My skin type happens to be dry, so I prefer products that are chock-full of long-lasting skincare benefits. Blush comes in a number of finishes that can impact a finished makeup look. I'm thirty years old. Man, that still feels strange to write. Okay, technically, I'm only three days in, but it's official. Actress Caitriona Balfe’s path to stardom hasn’t exactly been what you’d call traditional. While packing bags for a local charity in her native Ireland, she was scouted by a modeling agent and then made her way to Paris at 19, where she began a modeling career that touched all the major fashion houses. This November, she’ll be starring alongside Christian Bale and Matt Damon in the upcoming movie, Ford v Ferrari, where she plays Bale’s wife, Mollie, who is an accomplished race car driver in her own right. It’s safe to say her career is about to shift into fifth gear.
