It's not the first (or last) time we've talked about the Italian bombshell street style It girls and designers Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio. Their brand Attico brought about some trends that made us second-guess pieces that we may have never worn again and made us think about trends (like pyjama dressing) that we'd never thought we'd wear on the street. Attico, meaning penthouse in Italian, radiates subtle sexiness and bold character with its signature piece—the silk robe. It's time to meet the evolution of the utilitarian duster coat and say hello to the sleek satin robe.

With a plunging neckline, cinched waist, and thigh split, there's not much else needed to make this piece stand out from the crowd. Don't fret about having to wear this on its own though. From pairing with classic denim jeans to statement gold earrings, there's a high chance you already own the basics we'd style the robe with. Irrespective of price points, we like to invest in pieces that are versatile season to season, day to night, office to bar. With five looks below, don't blame us for wanting one of each. Since Australia is always slightly behind the rest of the fashion world, I've been eyeing winter street style images for at least six months now. Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini have been right at the forefront of my Pinterest boards and have almost taken over my French style pins with their bold Italian looks. And since I grew up in Queensland, I may be more used to winters spent at the beach wearing shorts, but I'm a cold-weather girl at heart. Mainly for three reasons:

1. Layering is super stylish (and it's easier to be creative when putting outfits together).

2. I have fallen for the cosy hygge trend, which makes more sense in cooler months.

3. My favourite wardrobe items are coats, in particular the humble trench.

So if you can't tell by now I'm just a little bit excited about the current drop in temperature. Now's my chance to rug up in all the beautiful coats I've been spying on the runways. While a Sydney winter is still warm compared to other cities in the world, it does get its fair share of chilly days with bouts of miserable rain. For that reason, a good coat always comes in handy and I've rounded up nine of the best styles (some trending and some classics) that are timeless pieces you can wear year after year.

Trench

The classic, utilitarian treat coat is a wardrobe staple for women of all ages.

Denim

Denim is a comfortable and wearable versatile fabric that is suitable for warmer states (looking at you fellow Queenslanders).

Luckily for us, street style photographers love a stylish duo as much as we do, and there's one Italian pair in particular that they couldn't get enough of in 2016. Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio started off as consultants for brands, street style stars, and friends. (Fun facts: They're both quite statuesque and go practically everywhere together). After meeting a few years ago, the stylish Milanese pair decided to combine their classic (Tordini) and bold (Ambrosio) aesthetics in the form of their own vintage-inspired label named Attico (Italian for penthouse). Their first collection launched last February and was promptly snapped up by major e-tailers like Net-a-Porter, Matches Fashion, and Moda Operandi, and quickly sold out.

In an interview with Buro 24/7, the It girls cite vintage shops and flea markets (including furniture and interiors) as their biggest sources of inspiration for their seasonless collections, which explains the stunning embroidered and velvet robes and kimonos that have become their trademarks. 

Upon perusing Tordini and Ambrosio's directional outfits from the past year (below), it's clear to see their style is influencing what other fashion girls are wearing and brands are designing (robes, velvet, long dresses layered over jeans, dusters, satin kitten heels, statement sleeves, etc.). Much to our delight, the insiders are introducing denim and accessories with their S/S 17 collection, and we're already anticipating that the satin pouches, thick-buckled ankle bracelets, cropped flare jeans, and backless mules will garner long waiting lists.

On a recent showroom appointment to see the new Net-a-Porter collections at Sydney PR agency, MCMPR, I witnessed the first collection in a long time that actually stopped me in my tracks. Enter: Attico. The new wave of fashion. Italian designers, Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio have combined their different aesthetics, and launched Attico in Feburary of this year.

The brand has already picked up an impressive rollcall of stockists—Opening Ceremony, Luisa Via Roma, Matches Fashion, Net-a-Porter, and now Stylebop, so no doubt, it’s about to blow up.

What is it about this label that made me stop? It’s unique. Each piece has its own decadence—embroidery, rich fabrics like velvet and satin, hidden splits that show a hint of skin, and slinky shapes that can be dressed up and down. I’m always on that eternal quest to achieve effortless style—and I think this collection is all of that wrapped up in one easy package.

A blush pink velvet dress, metallic wrap dress, and embellished cape all sound like pieces worthy of being seen on a runway, not on the street, but they're surprisingly wearable. The easy shapes and soft flowy fabric mean I can imagine wearing each piece in my everyday (which isn’t all that glam, FYI).

When I returned to my desk after that fateful showroom visit, I did some googling and discovered the brands co-founders Giorgia Toridini and Gilda Ambrosio are often snapped on the street in their own designs—and their effortless styling proves my point. The designers are leading the way for luxury and decadence every day of the week.
