Welcome to Beauty's Night Out, a series dedicated to the need-to-know beauty conversations dominating the nightlife scene. Expect a first look at the latest trends, behind-the-scenes tutorials, and loads of going-out inspiration as you get all dolled up—all you need is your favorite playlist. This time around, we're getting a glimpse into a night out with actress and designer Nicole Richie, who stars in Eucerin's Radiant Tone campaign.

When creating this Beauty's Night Out series, there were a few dream interviewees I had in mind—iconic partygoers with whom I could swap skin, hair, and makeup secrets, pretending we're getting ready to head out for the evening. Nicole Richie was at the top of my list. The actress, designer, and quintessential It girl of the early aughts has had some very famous Y2K club moments over the years, and when we hop on our video call, I'm practically begging her to take me back to those dark, paparazzi-swarmed venues (a sharp contrast, I realize, from the bright, airy studio she's in now, shooting her Eucerin campaign). "The thing I'm most grateful for is that as heavily documented as those points were when we were leaving, it was not documented on the inside," she mentions with a coy smile.

When I press (come on, I had to), part of me assumes she'll bring up going out with her pet ball python, Cleopatra, wrapped around her neck like a statement collar, or how she and Paris Hilton would show up to bars wearing shoes with retractable wheels so they could easily skate away from men. Nope. It turns out Richie's favorite moments are not inside the club but right beside it, at the late-night snack cart. "My friends and I used to have a phase where we loved the hot dog stands outside of the clubs," she reveals. "There were a few times where we would not even go to the clubs, but we'd go to the hot dog stands at 1 a.m."

Her girls' nights today look a little different—although, "You never know. I do love a pig in a blanket," she jokes—swapping the weekday club circuit (no Saturdays and Sundays, an A-lister of her caliber was wont to know) for more low-key get-togethers. "I love going to dinner with my girlfriends," she notes, naming Saffy's, Found Oyster, Matsuhisa, and Marvin as her go-to spots. "Or we choose a house and hang out. That's what [going out] looks like."

One thing that's remained constant since her 20s, however, is her commitment to skincare—no matter what time she walks through the door. "I would never come home from a night out and not shower, whether I'm at dinner, a club, a party, or whatever," she declares. "I like to wake up and be clean. I wash my face, I shower, I moisturize—lotion, oil, all the things I love." Here, Richie reveals those skincare items she holds dear, as well as the going-out staples she tosses into her Fendi Spy Bag (a 2005 original, duh).

That said, she does bring a Clé de Peau concealer stick with her at times, pairing it with Eucerin's Radiant Tone Eye Cream for an instant under-eye pick-me-up. "I love the under-eye serum. It will fit in my bag, and it's really great for brightening. I do have dark circles, so it's very helpful for me," she says. "It's a nice combo [with the concealer]," she notes.

Ostrich print is something I've always had an eye on, because I always spot vintage Prada pieces that feature it when I'm scrolling through eBay, the RealReal, and Poshmark. More recently, though, it's been used at Balenciaga on the brand's beloved Rodeo bag and on various shoe styles at Khaite. Tory Burch gave the print a fun twist by embossing and glazing polyester to mimic the texture of genuine ostrich and using the unique fabric to make shift dresses and car coats.

First unveiled on the spring/summer 2005 runways, the Fendi Spy Bag quickly grew a cult following that launched the bag into the same stratosphere as the beloved Baguette and coveted Peekaboo. The dumpling shape is iconic of the bag, with double handles moulded from the bag's body, and a flap closure with a secret. Inside, a hidden pocket can be found, storing your most treasured possessions close to hand.

Whilst the original Spy bag came in a series of neutrals, bold shades and pattern mixing, the new version feels like an elegant older sister. The leather has been smoothed and softened, the handles less textured, taking on a twisted effect instead. The colourways, too, show the evolution of the style, ranging from classic black to rich burgundy.

6. The Louis Vutton Speedy

The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag has a long history dating all the way back to the 1930s. First presented as a travel tote, the luggage brand expanded into everyday accessories, updating the Speedy along the way. The original was made in size 30, then came the variety in sizes to offer more versatility to the wearer. With the iconic Louis Vuitton monogramming, the bag was eye-catching, a nod to its luxurious and well-crafted origins, notes that continue with the current styles.

Yesterday in Milan, Fendi presented its colorful spring/summer 2026 show. It was meant to represent a future summer seen through a fantastical Fendi lens. The show felt a little mind-bending in the best way, like a fashion show put through a kaleidoscope.

In a press release following the show, Silvia Venturini Fendi said, "It's about a relaxed and colorful sense of ease with a romantic elegance. It's not about a single definition but a fluidity between everyday life and exquisite craftsmanship. Simple gestures with complex work behind them. The duality has always attracted me."

The cast of models was unsurprisingly star-studded with the likes of Alex Consani, Gabbriette, Paloma Elsesser, and Amelia Gray. They all walked down a runway that looked like a pixelated color field, wearing clothing that oozed with refreshing nonchalance and bright colors. There were tiered skirts with a fishtail kick and organza collars on bomber jackets. Everything was far more elevated than what you would wear on vacation but still maintained the coolness of a forever summer.

A Cinematic Soundtrack for a Pixelated Runway

With punchy colors that lit up the runway, a colorful setting and soundtrack were necessary. Even guests sat on large seats made to look like elongated, colorful pixels. Frédéric Sanchez worked alongside Fendi to create a soundtrack that helped reflect the show's multigenerational cast of characters. Sanchez referred to it as a "pixelized promenade" that featured samples of unforgettable moments across the history of Italian cinema. There were also cuts of Italian opera by Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimée, Anna Magnani, and Alain Delon synthesized through electronic music projects by Scanner and Matthias Schubert. Between the soundtrack and Demna's Gucci film from earlier this week, Milan Fashion Week is clearly in its cinematic era.

If you thought the collection was punchy, optimistic, and fun from afar, the details were even more so. Most notably, models wore uneven and unexpected earring pairings as though they were in a rush to get somewhere fabulous and threw on whatever was on their nightstand. To start, I think about whether I want an everyday bag for running errands, a work tote that will fit my laptop, a party purse for nighttime events, or something in between. Then I take a long look at my budget to determine my price range. Finally, I mull over which bags truly excite me.

From vintage icons like the Chanel Flap Bag to more recent additions like The Row's esteemed Margaux, it's something I've studied at great length, as not only do I love the look of a bag, but the finer details, the thoughtful design motifs, and the cultural impact they've had along the way. Today, I'm focused on one such bag that took the fashion world by storm and has now returned for autumn/winter 2025.

Let's take it back for a moment. It's the middle of the spring/summer 2005 runways, and Fendi's catwalk is about to start. The lights come up and the show begins. A parade of models takes to the stage in a wash of colourful summer looks, each carrying the latest addition to Fendi's impeccable bag collection—the Fendi Spy Bag had been unveiled.

The effect was immediate. Waiting lists began to fill up as every celebrity and stylish person wanted to add the House's newest icon to their collections. As soon as it was released, the bag was consistently spotted on well-known names from Ashley Olsen to Sarah Jessica Parker. Two decades later, the appeal for the bag hasn't wavered, with avid bag collectors searching resale sites for a second chance at this piece, and even Bella Hadid was spotted carrying a vintage version in 2022. With twenty years of legacy behind it, Fendi has relaunched the Spy Bag for 2025. As it's already been spotted on the arms of celebrities and fashion people, I wanted to put this reimagined It bag to the test.

A Deep Review of the New Fendi Spy Bag

Gaining icon status for an accessory is a major feat in itself; an even greater one is to gain the title on a reissued style. But in my opinion, Fendi has a head start with the distinctive silhouette of the bag. The dumpling shape alongside the sleek double handle and soft form embodied the bohemian mood of the time, and one that we’re seeing revived for 2025. You just have to look to the rise of blouses, ruffles and floaty boho dresses to see that a similar aesthetic is making waves right now, perfectly aligned with the bags' relaunch.

The look and feel of the bag remains true to the original design, notably the blend of refined craftspersonship and the joyful creative talents of Silvia Venturini. The securing flap has a hidden compartment for your most treasured possessions, a nod to the secretive connotations of the name of the bag. In mine, I stored a lip gloss close to hand.

The most notable change to the bag comes in the look. Fitting for its debut in the early 2000's the bag was launched in neutral colourways along with metallics and two-tone versions. In the following fall collection, the Spy Bag was redesigned with velvet finishes, bead embroidery and bold prints. In the twenty-year interlude since launch, there have been various shifts in the fashion sphere and a distinct change in mood. Whilst bold designs will always have their place, the quietening of fashion that arose in the past few years has retained its power over style, with a less-is-more appeal being the highest form of luxury.

Void of logos and patterns, the new Fendi Spy Bag is much more subtle, concentrating on smooth, refined leather, an eye-catching silhouette and a considered palette. Currently, the bag is available in classic neutrals, accent pastel shades and a shearling iteration. Eagle-eyed onlookers will have also spotted a few new additions on the autumn/winter 2025 runways, including an incredibly elegant deep green and patent black. The previously woven handles have also been updated with a fresh twist design, adding to the timeless appeal of the bag that ensures that twenty years from now, we’ll still be talking about the Fendi Spy Bag.

Is the Fendi Spy Bag Worth It?

As an avid collector of handbags, it's important for me to not just tell you about how great a piece looks, but also how it works in everyday life. There are some bags that are savoured for special occasions, often impractical in size or slightly awkward to hold. Not the Fendi Spy Bag.

The bag has been launched in two sizes: small and regular. I was able to get a sample of the smaller version, and it joined me for a day in the office with a lunch meeting and a trip across town to view a new collection. In terms of size, the small version makes for the perfect everyday bag, with a surprising amount of room inside for your wallet, sunglasses case, Kindle and water bottle. Of course, I had to put to use the hidden coin pocket in the flap, which can hold small treasures.

One of my most immediate impressions of this bag was just how comfortable it is to use. The smaller size isn't really designed to go over the shoulder, so I found myself carrying it in hand, in the crook of my elbow, and wearing it crossbody with the longer detachable strap. The smooth leather and padded twist handles, along with the soft silhouette, allow the bag to move and mould whichever way you tote this bag around. I also tried out the crossbody option. The thin leather strap is subtle in its look, and also adjustable to get the right length across the body. The soft silhouette excels here, ensuring the bag sits comfortably on the wearer.

On top of the flap is a subtle gold-embossed Fendi logo, but this isn't the only outward sign of a luxury piece. The silhouette, the look of the leather and composition all come together to exude a premium feel, even for those who wouldn't immediately recognise the Spy Bag by its shape. I also adore the addition of the Fendi jacquard monogram on the lining, a nod to the brand's rich history, and in line with the secretive elements, as it's only flashed when the bag is opened.

Ease is another key factor I look for with any investment buy. First is the physical ease of this bag. As I'm always on the go, having access to my essentials is a must. The closure of the bag is the flap itself with a hidden magnet inside the body to keep your pieces secure, whilst still offering easy access on the go. The second element of ease comes in with how it styles with different outfits. It's a piece that can easily transition from day to night thanks to its luxurious look, especially in the more neutral colourways.

For a relaunched It bag, the stakes are higher. The piece already holds a legacy that a new style has to live up to, but I personally believe that Fendi has. The bag feels like an older sister of the original version. It has the same DNA, but is even more refined and more grown-up in its look and feel. Sitting alongside other brand icons such as the Peekaboo and the Baguette, it's a bag that I expect we'll see a lot more of in the coming months, and will probably still be talking about in another twenty years.

If you were to ask me what qualities I think the best perfumes should have, I'd tell you that they need to smell subtly expensive. I don't want a perfume that lingers long after I leave the room, nor do I want a skin scent that only I can appreciate when I wear it. Instead, I want that perfectly in-between fragrance. The latest addition to Fendi's fragrance collection, Eaux d'Artifice, was created to mark the Maison’s 100th anniversary. A tribute to Rome and Delfina Delettrez Fendi’s view of the Trevi Fountain by night, it is an aquatic, marine scent at the heart, with crisp, cool notes of juniper essence and woody Mediterranean cypress blending to create this fresh, salty, metallic aroma. It's almost as if you can smell the coins splashing into the fountain behind you while you close your eyes and make a wish.

Just like water, this is a beautifully fluid fragrance, with undercurrents of musk adding a subtle yet sensual touch. It feels new and exciting, sparkling on the skin like the endless possibilities of a night in the Eternal City.

In true Fendi style, this perfume makes a chic addition to your dressing table (or handbag). According to the show notes shared by the brand, Venturini Fendi touched upon the nostalgia-tinged memories and fantasies of her late grandparents, the founders of the house, and what Fendi means today.

The runway featured a dazzling array of 86 looks, combining historical house motifs with modern silhouettes and luxurious materials. From elegant fur coats to ribbed knit dresses with scalloped hems and masterfully crafted leather goods, the collection showcased Fendi’s dedication to artistry and quality, all core tenets of the house. Guests were taken into a space reminiscent of the brand's atelier, which, in the '60s and '70s, the Fendi family turned into a personal party saloon.

The event was a star-studded affair, with of-the-moment models such as Paloma Elsesser and Alex Consani walking the runway, while celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, a longtime friend of the house and Fendi muse, added to the celebration from the front row. Given this is Silvia Venturini Fendi's first co-ed collection and one of the strongest to date, there's certainly plenty to celebrate over in Milan.

As it's one of the largest shows during Milan Fashion Week, anyone who's anyone wants a seat at Fendi. Supermodels and rising stars like Adriana Lima, Mona Tougaard, Alex Consani, Paloma Elsesser, Amelia Grey, Gabbriette, and more took to the runway in celebration of the brand's 100th anniversary collection. In the front row were recognizable friends of the brand as well, including Who What Wear's latest cover star, Hailee Steinfeld, Sarah Jessica Parker, Elizabeth Olsen and Challengers director Luca Guadagnino.

The Co-ed Collection Is a Fendi First for the Family

Following Kim Jones's departure from Fendi womenswear and haute couture in 2024, Silvia Venturini Fendi stepped up to the plate to take on responsibilities for both menswear and womenswear for the centennial show. Venturini Fendi primarily focused on accessories, menswear, and children's clothing while Jones was at the brand. This collection marks the first that Venturini Fendi designed as co-ed, totaling 87 looks. It's Fendi by women, for women. Prior to Jones, Karl Lagerfeld was the womenswear co-creative director alongside Venturini Fendi.

A Glamorous, Retro Nod to Nonna

In the show notes shared by the brand, Venturini Fendi told the press that she "didn't want to spend too much time dwelling on the physical archives," and instead focused on capturing the raw emotions and feelings that came with growing up with the brand. Fendi 100, she says, is more about her personal memories and how they've transformed the brand over time. It's no surprise then that the opulent, plush life of Venturini Fendi's nonna Adele Casagrande played a massive role in inspiring the F/W 25 collection. The Fendi woman almost gets sexier as she ages. She swipes red lipstick across her cheeks before she leaves the house to run errands covered in a fur coat or lace-trimmed cardigan. Motifs from the '60s and '70s were felt throughout the collection, from oversize sunglasses to whimsical lettuce-trimmed skirts.

The Gesture of It All

Not only do the clothes feel reminiscent of a more glamorous time, but the models added to the fantasy as well with subtle gestures that signaled a cool, nonchalant attitude about stepping onto the runway dripping in gemstones or their finest wool frocks. Models used their hands to keep their fur coats closed, as if they were rushing out the door and threw it on last-minute. Bags were held lazily, slung in the crook of an arm or dangling slightly by a model's wrist. For the garments that felt a bit more inspired by childlike wonder and innocence (perhaps a nod to Venturini Fendi growing up among some of Italy's finest), models held crochet rag dolls down the runway. It's not just clothing on a runway—this season, Fendi is selling you a lifestyle.

Fendi Fur Forever

A Fendi show would be incomplete without mentioning the iconic Fendi furs. While some maisons have phased out of using the material completely, Fendi strives for excellence in its production, calling out its ethical sourcing. Whether or not you choose to wear fur (whether second-hand or faux), you can't deny the influence Fendi has had over the style over the last 100 years.

Like many fashion people, when she has to get all dressed up, Sofia Richie Grainge has a tendency to pick black looks. She wore a floor-length black dress and coat, for example, to Khaite's New York Fashion Week show in February. Earlier that month, when she attended the Grammys alongside her husband, Elliot Grainge, she wore black yet again in the form of a slightly sheer, high-neck gown by Saint Laurent. Last year's Baby2Baby gala, Prada Beauty's Brooklyn launch party, and her Vogue pregnancy announcement all too saw the new mom wear fashion's favorite neutral.

Tonight's fourth annual Academy Museum Gala, however, told a different story. For the event, Richie Grainge ditched her usual color choice for something far more daring and out of the ordinary for her: a bright-red silk dress from Fendi's S/S 24 collection. With the high-neck, loose-fitting gown, she carried a black clutch purse and wore black open-toe mules and Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany ear clips and rings. Richie Grainge's sister, Nicole Richie, was also in attendance at tonight's gala and likewise opted to wear a statement color for the occasion. Richie, who's currently filming the reboot of her and Paris Hilton's cult-classic reality TV show The Simple Life, chose a butter-yellow, low-cut gown by Rochas from the brand's resort '25 collection.

As we bid farewell to summer, the turn of the leaves and the sudden drop in temperature have us reaching for our autumn perfumes once again as we welcome in these cooler, crisp days. These days, new perfumes and niche fragrances from independent brands launch pretty much every week, but previously, luxury fragrances were strictly the business of pioneering and exclusive fashion houses, such as Dior. Much like today, these fragrances allowed consumers to buy into a small piece of the brand, which was particularly appealing if they didn't have the means to invest in a full high-end wardrobe. Fragrance, with all of its emotive connotations, offers us a chance to experience the very essence of these luxury designers with every spritz, on a more objectively accessible budget—an idea that remains very compelling to those who would like a slice of the lifestyle these brands signify.

Many fragrance icons, like Chanel's legendary No.5, were born in the 1920s. The decade was a pivotal moment for women's style, shrugging off the dated silhouettes of the previous century and welcoming in more directional pieces like flapper dresses and trousers, the latter of which were formerly reserved for menswear. Chanel No.5 echoed this shift in the zeitgeist by tapping into aldehydes—an airy, soapy note rarely used in perfumery at the time—and combined it with jasmine, ylang-ylang, and rose. It quickly became an icon in the fragrance world, and today, No.5 remains one of the most recognizable and best-selling fragrances globally; a testament to the everlasting draw that fashion houses can bring to our most-loved fragrances.

Fast-forward 100 years, and legacy fashion houses continue to tempt us with new additions to their exclusive fragrance selections. However, to compete with the independent brands entering this space, they've had to become even more luxurious in the process. Now crafting elevated elixirs that are often lesser-known than the commercially-led No.5s and Miss Diors that commonly front the brands in magazines and on billboards, these scents are an "if you know, you know" affair (if you wear them, we just know you have excellent taste).

Meanwhile, this year marked the launch of both Balmain and Fendi's freshly reimagined fragrance lines, honoring the fashion houses' rich historical heritage and simultaneously offering a kaleidoscope of beautiful scents that feel truly modern. 1. CELINE ZOUZOU

Inspired by 1960s fashion icons from the silver screen, fashion, and literature, Celine's ZouZou is a powdery and playful scent that immediately transports you to a glamorous powder room of yesteryear. Think pixie haircuts, painted lashes, and big powder puffs that send plumes of powdery musk into the air. Artistic Director Hedi Slimane desired to create a perfume that captured eternal youth and gave ZouZou its name as an affectionate nickname (which was often used to describe women with short hairstyles) and a nod to French actress Danièle Ciarlet.

Despite being inspired by the '60s, the scent sits firmly in the present. The sweet, woody benzoin and smooth tonka bean unfurl into an ambery, caramel trail that is guaranteed to turn heads and linger on autumn knitwear. As it dries down, it welcomes in earthy patchouli and woody, resinous labdanum, leaving behind a trail of powdery musk and vanilla that lingers for hours. It's housed in a fluted glass bottle and is as much a thing of beauty to admire on your dressing table as it is to experience on your skin throughout the day and is bound to make you feel just as iconic as the chic women who inspired it.

2. CHANEL COMÈTE

Chanel's latest fragrance from the Les Exclusifs De Chanel collection, Comète, is captivating and deeply rooted in the fashion house's lore. Gabrielle Chanel, known for being superstitious and having a fascination with astrology (she was a Leo, FYI), drew inspiration from the stars when designing her first jewelry collection. One standout piece was a diamond-encrusted necklace shaped like a shooting star, specifically molded to sit close to the skin. This iconic piece inspired Comète, a perfume said to capture the essence of stardust, echoing the formfitting necklace with its skin-like musk.

The scent is powdery, sparkling, and intricate, evolving beautifully with your skin's chemistry. Its notes include heliotrope, powdery iris, cherry blossom accord, and a smooth, musky base. While it wears close to the skin, the projection and longevity are impressive. The dry-down lingers for hours, often leaving a lasting impression noticeable to those around you. The first day I tested it, I could still smell the shimmering scent hours after spraying, like olfactory stardust suspended in the air.

3. CHRISTIAN DIOR LUCKY ESPIRIT DE PARFUM

When it comes to luxury French fashion houses, it doesn’t get much more iconic than Dior. The brand began creating fragrances in 1947 and launched Miss Dior in the same year—a scent that remains a classic to this day. But in 2021, the brand announced that Francis Kurkdjian (the very perfumer behind Baccarat Rouge 540) was to be the House's new perfume creation director. Since then, we’ve seen Kurkdjian reimagine some of the most iconic Dior fragrances.

The brand's latest launch with Kurkdjian? A concentrated reiteration of five famous scents from the La Collection Priveé Christian Dior Collection. These reimagined fragrances are bold, head-turning, compliment-inducing scents that radiate modern luxury. Although any of the five would be a great addition to your perfume collection, if we had to choose one, it would have to be Lucky Esprit de Parfum.

This pretty scent is inspired by the stems of lily of the valley that Christian Dior would sew into the hems of Haute Couture dresses or tuck into his pockets for good luck. It features fresh, delicate notes of the flower wrapped in a woody-leather accord that gives the floral opening impressive depth. "To me, it’s a crisp autumn walk in a bottle. Whenever I spritz this, I can practically feel the leaves crunching underneath my feet," says our junior beauty editor, Grace Lindsay.

4. BALMAIN CARBONE

One of the most exciting fragrance launches of the season has to be awarded to Balmain Beauty. The brand has just released a collection of eight all-gender fragrances called Les Éternels de Balmain, inspired by the brand’s Parisian legacy and creative director Olivier Rousteing’s modern influence. In 1947, Balmain revolutionized the fragrance world with the launch of the first iconic green scent, Vent Vert, and we do not doubt that Les Éternels de Balmain will carry the same legacy.

The bottles themselves are a work of art and feel like a true expression of how fashion and beauty cannot exist without one another, as explained by Rousteing when he discusses the fragrances. But not even the bottles could prepare us for just how exquisite these scents are. Although we could write an essay on each, from the minute we smelled them, we knew that Carbone would be our autumn fragrance of choice. This is the sort of scent that you want to wrap yourself in and never take off.

It’s a complex fragrance with notes of sensual white musk at the heart, but it opens with hints of sweet rose, which almost lures you into a false sense of security before the true depth of this perfume comes through and you start to discover its darker side. Once notes of musk settle on the skin, you're treated to a warming haze of tobacco, suede, and cumin. It’s bold, unique and truly delicious.

5. LOUIS VUITTON LV LOVERS

Louis Vuitton’s latest fragrance is, without a doubt, love at first smell. Inspired by the sensation of sunlight on your skin and the natural process of photosynthesis, it exudes a radiant blend of green and woody notes, evoking the feeling of wandering through a sunlit forest surrounded by fresh, dewy leaves in dappled light.

Crafted by Louis Vuitton’s master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud in collaboration with men's creative director, Pharrell Williams, the scent is intended as an invigorating well-being elixir that instantly boosts your mood. And who doesn't want that once the nights begin to draw in? The fragrance boasts impressive projection and longevity, lingering on clothes all day like an optimistic halo.

The zing of ginger opens the scent, followed a the woody green snap of galbanum before drying down into creamy sandalwood and soft cedarwood. It’s one of those uplifting scents that not only smells incredible but also elevates your spirits with every spritz. We applaud Louis Vuitton for bottling liquid sunshine, just in time to carry us through the darker months ahead.

6. GIVENCHY L'INTERDIT ABSOLU

According to Givenchy’s latest perfume launch, this season is not the time to be subtle with your scent of choice. The French fashion house is known for its daring fragrances, and one of our all-time favorites has to be L’Interdit, a musky-floral scent that lingers beautifully on the skin.

This autumn, the brand has introduced a new iteration called L’Interdit Absolu Eau de Parfum Intense. With an intoxicating blend of orange blossom, sambac jasmine, lavender, and cardamom, it’s an uplifting scent with a strong, sensual base. Although the opening is inherently floral, your senses are taken on a journey thanks to rich notes of tobacco and rum absolute. Once it settles on the skin, a warming cashmere comes through, making this fragrance feel just as luxurious as your favorite cashmere jumper.

7. FENDI DOLCE BACIO

Fendi sent editors' hearts aflutter with the launch of seven fragrances this year, each inspired by the Fendi family personalities that have each shaped the brand throughout the generations. Our favorite? Dolce Bacio.

It's inspired by Anna Fendi, who also happens to have an ochre-colored rose named after her. Dolce Bacio takes the classical rose note and pairs it with the alluringly sweet and sunny apricot. Described as "a tender kiss on the cheek that leaves behind a faint rose lipstick scent" and "vibrant orange sunrises overlooking rose gardens in Rome," you would be forgiven for thinking this is only a fruity floral. But the addition of Indonesian patchouli unfurls, making this scent both gentle and powerful; a trait that Anna Fendi's daughter Silvia Venturini Fendi notices in the generations of Fendi women.

Upon first spritz, this scent sparkles with the brightness of sun-kissed apricot and the earthy, smoky dryness of patchouli. At its heart lies the opulent damask rose from Turkey—powerful, velvety, and akin to a warm embrace, making this a cozy scent that will linger long into autumnal evenings.

No need to triple-check those calendars, friends! We've officially entered autumn. For the fashion crowd, waiting until the start of fall can feel quite arduous. After all, it's not always socially acceptable or easy to rationalize why you're already shopping fall's biggest trends when it's still scorching hot outside. If the girlies don't get it, they don't get it! With the fall equinox coming up, the calendar is finally giving us explicit permission to clear out our closets to make room for new staples. However, just because we're finally free to shop for fall without judgment from others doesn't make narrowing down our list easier. If we're being honest, it can be overwhelming to discern what's worth buying for the season. Do you invest in a brand-new pair of boots? Knitwear? Outerwear? Making a choice can be challenging, even if you've spent time counting the days until fall. We'd argue that one of the best places to start when it comes to shopping for the fall is with handbags.

Hear us out: Purses are the perfect way to transition any wardrobe from summer to fall in a single purchase. Rather than buying a plethora of new pieces, buying a designer handbag can make an old pair of jeans or a simple jacket feel brand-new. Plus, no other luxury items retain their value quite like a purse. If you're unsure what exact handbags are worth the investment, don't fret. Considering that we're certified bag ladies, we figured it was our journalistic duty to research which handbag trends took over the fall/winter 2024 runway collections. Ahead, we're sharing a breakdown of the seven biggest handbag trends for fall and a rationale for why they'll make great investments for this season and beyond. As we've previously reported, there's one shade that's sure to secure the top spot in everyone's closet this fall: black cherry. While there were plenty of examples of this color incorporated into ready-to-wear collections, what's going to carry (excuse the pun) this trend into commercial success this fall is handbags. From deep merlot clutches at Victoria Beckham and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini to east-west bags crafted from crocodile-embossed cherry leather at Gucci to classic quilted Chanel bags in a bougie bordeaux, there was no shortage of examples of this dark shade on the runway this season. It will take time to see whether this trend becomes as hot as expected, but there's no better way to spice up your fall staples than with a purse in this particular color.

Remember a few years back when mini bags were all the rage? Well, they've called in reinforcements. While we may no longer be clamoring to get our hands on the smallest bags in sight, that's likely to change simply with the flick of a wrist. As a hybrid bag style between a miniature top-handle bag and a traditional clutch, a wristlet hasn't always been considered the easiest bag to style for everyday life.

The fall/winter collections showed that this trend could be worth holding on to, and the silhouette's versatility was demonstrated in full force. At Chloé, there were adaptable wristlets that could be styled as a bracelet or shoulder bag. Similarly, Prada's classic Cleo Bag was creatively restyled as a wristlet with the addition of a leather wrist strap that easily attaches to the bag's hardware. Even the more traditional versions of the wristlet seen at Gabriela Hearst and Roksanda had elements that could make them just as versatile as the others. Whoever said mini bags were dead clearly never saw wristlets coming.

Clutches are forever chic, but with fall/winter 2024 collections, we saw designers take elements of this classic bag and transform them into something current. It's almost as if everyone got the memo that the theme was swan fashion, as clutch designs were coded in '60s eveningwear aesthetics. Of course, we saw the traditional satin fold-over clutch surface this season, including at Altuzarra's F/W 24 show. Overall, there were far more contemporary takes on the classic evening clutch. Pouches felt far more polished because of their elongated east-west shapes, punchier colors, and elevated styling—see Carven's and Carolina Herrera's shows. But it wasn't just the retro pouch that got a recent upgrade. The everyday dumpling shape was given an elevated eveningwear spin by playing with size, shades, and styling at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini. By turning back time to revisit this timeless bag, designers made the style feel more timely than ever before.

Even if you don't follow trends extensively, it should be no surprise that '90s fashion has resurfaced. It's taken over social media, street style, and even our own site. The bags from that era, however, haven't been given as much attention until now. Sure, we still see some of the decade's silhouettes, but it wasn't until these past few seasons that we saw luxury houses revitalizing bags from the '90s in full force. More specifically, designers have brought back the bowler bag—a shape with a flat bottom and round top that was first popularized by Prada and Dior.

While these two luxury brands may have put this bag on the map, it was made relevant again with the release of The Row's Margaux tote bag. Since then, we've seen this bag take over social media, street style, and the selection of handbags offered in fall/winter 2024 collections of Miu Miu, Tod's, ACNE Studios, Bally, Coach, and Sandy Liang. While every designer reimagined this bag in different ways, from mini bags to oversize suede versions, there's no denying that this style will strike out this fall as one the biggest bag trends of the season.

A particular textile stood out this season in terms of bags: suede. Once the first crisp breeze is felt in the air, this material makes the rounds. It bubbles up once every bag and boot style in sight is made from suede. We'd be shucking our duties as fashion editors if we didn't mention the outsized presence of suede handbags throughout the fall/winter 2024 runway shows. Unlike previous iterations of this trend that may have felt Western, we saw designers make suede accessories more sophisticated. Some fall collections achieved that by opting for unexpected shades of suede materials. For example, a crescent-shaped shoulder bag and top-handle handbag came in a chocolate-brown suede at Officine Générale and Moschino. At Miu Miu and Bevza, brands made this material bolder by relying upon unique shapes. Overall, designers showed that even the most predictable fall trends can be surprising if you look at them a bit closer.

We've seen charms come back into the conversation on social media as users rush to hop on the trend of Jane Birkin–ifying their bags, and they've cemented cultural relevance because of recent runway collections. It may be surprising to see this trend surface again considering it is centered on styling, but that's the point. Whether it's quirky charms or the doubling up of bags, this season is about making what's in style more signature. Thankfully, fall collections provided plenty of ways to do just that as a minimalist or a maximalist. At Miu Miu, overstuffed bags were covered in charms, and at Burberry, sleek shoulder bags featured a single key chain. Moreover, the offering of bag charms ranged from eccentric to luxurious, and there was everything from New York City–inspired bag charms at Coach to leather lollipop holders at Fendi. By showcasing different ways to embrace bag charms, designers reminded us that the best trends encourage us to make what we already own feel brand-new—whether it's an old black bag or any other basic in our wardrobes.

For many of us, this time of year calls for a seasonal scent update. As we bid farewell to summer, the turn of the leaves and the sudden drop in temperature have us reaching for our autumn perfumes once again as we welcome in these cooler, crisp days. Thankfully, the world's most esteemed fashion houses have spoilt us with their fragrance launches of late, each providing plenty of scented inspiration to take us through the season and beyond—whilst racking up plenty of compliments along the way.

These days, new perfumes and niche fragrances from independent brands launch pretty much every week, but previously, luxury fragrances were strictly the business of pioneering and exclusive fashion houses, such as Dior. Much like today, these fragrances allowed consumers to buy into a small piece of the brand, which was particularly appealing if they didn't have the means to invest in a full high-end wardrobe. Fragrance, with all of its emotive connotations, offers us a chance to experience the very essence of these luxury designers with every spritz, on a more objectively accessible budget—an idea that remains very compelling to those who would like a slice of the lifestyle these brands signify.

Many fragrance icons, like Chanel's legendary No.5, were born in the 1920s. The decade was a pivotal moment for women's style, shrugging off the dated silhouettes of the previous century and welcoming in more directional pieces like flapper dresses and trousers, the latter of which were formerly reserved for menswear. Chanel No.5 echoed this shift in the zeitgeist by tapping into aldehydes; an airy, soapy note rarely used in perfumery at the time, and combined it with jasmine, ylang-ylang and rose. It quickly became an icon in the fragrance world, and today, No.5 remains one of the most recognisable and best-selling fragrances globally; a testament to the everlasting draw that fashion houses can bring to our most-loved fragrances.

Fast-forward 100 years, and legacy fashion houses continue to tempt us with new additions to their exclusive fragrance selections. However, to compete with the independent brands entering this space, they've had to become even more luxurious in the process. Now crafting elevated elixirs that are often lesser-known than the commercially-led No.5s and Miss Diors that commonly front the brands in magazines and on billboards, these scents are an "if you know, you know" affair—if you wear them, we just know you have excellent taste.

Meanwhile, this year marked the launch of both Balmain and Fendi's freshly reimagined fragrance lines, honouring the fashion houses' rich historical heritage and simultaneously offering a kaleidoscope of beautiful scents that feel truly modern. If that's not enough to entice you, then the latest launches from Celine, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy are sure set any fragrance lover's pulse racing upon the very first spritz—these are icons in the making.

1. CELINE ZOUZOU

Inspired by 1960s fashion icons from the silver screen, fashion and literature, Celine's ZouZou is a powdery and playful scent that immediately transports you to a glamorous powder room of yesteryear. Think pixie haircuts, painted lashes and big powder puffs that send plumes of powdery musk into the air. Artistic Director Hedi Slimane desired to create a perfume that captured eternal youth, and gave ZouZou its name as an affectionate nickname (which was often used to describe women with short hairstyles) and a nod to French actress Danièle Ciarlet.

Despite being inspired by the '60s, the scent sits firmly in the present. The sweet, woody benzoin and smooth tonka bean unfurl into an ambery, caramel trail that is guaranteed to turn heads and linger on autumn knitwear. As it dries down, it welcomes in earthy patchouli and woody, resinous labdanum, leaving behind a trail of powdery musk and vanilla that lingers for hours. Housed in a fluted glass bottle, it's as much a thing of beauty to admire on your dressing table as it is to experience on your skin throughout the day, and is bound to make you feel just as iconic as the chic women who inspired it.

2. CHANEL COMÈTE

Chanel's latest fragrance from the Les Exclusifs De Chanel collection, Comète is captivating and deeply rooted in the fashion house's lore. Gabrielle Chanel, known for being superstitious and having a fascination with astrology (she was a Leo, FYI), drew inspiration from the stars when designing her first jewellery collection. One standout piece was a diamond-encrusted necklace shaped like a shooting star, specifically moulded to sit closely to the skin. This iconic piece inspired Comète, a perfume said to capture the essence of stardust, echoing the form-fitting necklace with its skin-like musk.

The scent is powdery, sparkling and intricate, evolving beautifully with your skin's chemistry. Its notes include heliotrope, powdery iris, cherry blossom accord and a smooth, musky base. Whilst it wears close to the skin, the projection and longevity are impressive; the dry-down lingers for hours, often leaving a lasting impression noticeable to those around you. The first day I tested it, I could still smell the shimmering scent hours after spraying, like olfactory stardust suspended in the air.

3. CHRISTIAN DIOR LUCKY ESPIRIT DE PARFUM

When it comes to luxury French fashion houses, it doesn’t get much more iconic than Dior. The brand began creating fragrances in 1947, launching Miss Dior in the same year; a scent which remains a classic to this day. However, in 2021, the brand announced that Francis Kurkdjian (the very perfumer behind Baccarat Rouge 540) was to be the House's new perfume creation director—since then we’ve seen Kurkdjian reimagine some of the most iconic Dior fragrances.

The brand's latest launch with Kurkdjian? A concentrated reiteration of five famous scents from the La Collection Priveé Christian Dior Collection. These reimagined fragrances are bold, head-turning, compliment-inducing scents that radiate modern luxury. Although any of the five would be a great addition to your perfume collection, if we had to choose one, it would have to be Lucky Esprit de Parfum.

This pretty scent is inspired by the stems of lily of the valley that Christian Dior would sew into the hems of Haute Couture dresses or tuck into his pockets for good luck. It features fresh, delicate notes of the flower wrapped in a woody-leather accord that gives the floral opening impressive depth. "To me, it’s a crisp autumn walk in a bottle. Whenever I spritz this, I can practically feel the leaves crunching underneath my feet," says our junior beauty editor, Grace Lindsay.

4. BALMAIN CARBONE

One of the most exciting fragrance launches of the season has to be awarded to Balmain Beauty. The brand has just released a collection of eight all-gender fragrances called Les Éternels de Balmain, inspired by the brand’s Parisian legacy and Creative Director Olivier Rousteing’s modern influence. In 1947, Balmain revolutionised the fragrance world with the launch of the first iconic green scent, Vent Vert, and we have no doubt that Les Éternels de Balmain will carry the same legacy.

The bottles themselves are a work of art, and they feel like a true expression of how fashion and beauty cannot exist without one another, as explained by Rousteing when he discusses the fragrances. However, not even the bottles could prepare us for just how exquisite these scents are. Although we could write an essay on each and every one, from the minute we smelt it, we knew that Carbone would be our autumn fragrance of choice. This is the sort of scent that you want to wrap yourself in and never take off. It’s a complex fragrance with notes of sensual white musk at the heart, but it opens with hints of sweet rose, which almost lures you into a false sense of security before the true depth of this perfume comes through and you start to discover its darker side. Once notes of musk settle on the skin, you're treated to a warming haze of tobacco, suede and cumin. It’s bold, it’s unique and it’s truly delicious.

5. LOUIS VUITTON LV LOVERS

Louis Vuitton’s latest fragrance is, without a doubt, love at first smell. Inspired by the sensation of sunlight on your skin and the natural process of photosynthesis, it exudes a radiant blend of green and woody notes, evoking the feeling of wandering through a sunlit forest surrounded by fresh, dewy leaves in dappled light.

Crafted by Louis Vuitton’s master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud in collaboration with men's Creative Director, Pharrell Williams, the scent is intended as an invigorating well-being elixir that instantly boosts your mood. And who doesn't want that once the nights begin to draw in? The fragrance boasts impressive projection and longevity, lingering on clothes all day like an optimistic halo.

The zing of ginger opens the scent, followed a the woody green snap of galbanum before drying down into creamy sandalwood and soft cedarwood. It’s one of those uplifting scents that not only smells incredible but instantly elevates your spirits with every spritz. We applaud Louis Vuitton for bottling liquid sunshine, just in time to carry us through the darker months ahead.

6. GIVENCHY L'INTERDIT ABSOLU

According to Givenchy’s latest perfume launch, this season is not the time to be subtle with your scent of choice. The French fashion house is known for its daring fragrances, and one of our all-time favourites has to be L’Interdit, a musky-floral scent that lingers beautifully on the skin.

This autumn, the brand has introduced a new iteration called L’Interdit Absolu Eau de Parfum Intense. With an intoxicating blend of orange blossom, sambac jasmine, lavender and cardamom, it’s an uplifting scent with a strong, sensual base. Although the opening is inherently floral, your senses are taken on a journey thanks to rich notes of tobacco and rum absolute. Once it settles on the skin, warming cashmeran comes through, making this fragrance feel just as luxurious as your favourite cashmere jumper.

7. FENDI DOLCE BACIO

Fendi sent editors' hearts aflutter with the launch of seven fragrances this year, each inspired by the Fendi family personalities that have each shaped the brand throughout the generations. Our favourite? Dolce Bacio.

Inspired by Anna Fendi, who also happens to have an ochre-coloured rose named after her, Dolce Bacio takes the classical rose note and pairs it with the alluringly sweet and sunny apricot. Described as "a tender kiss on the cheek that leaves behind a faint rose lipstick scent" and "vibrant orange sunrises overlooking rose gardens in Rome", you would be forgiven for thinking this is only a fruity-floral. However, the addition of Indonesian patchouli unfurls, making this scent both gentle and powerful; a trait that Anna Fendi's daughter Silvia Venturini Fendi notices in the generations of Fendi women.

Upon first spritz, this scent sparkles with the brightness of sun-kissed apricot and the earthy, smokey dryness of patchouli. At its heart lies the opulent damask rose from Turkey—powerful, velvety and akin to a warm embrace, making this a cosy scent that will linger long into autumnal evenings.

Let's be honest for a moment. Fashion can feel frivolous at times, especially within the context of contemporary couture. It can sometimes feel ostentatious compared to our approachable capsule wardrobe. Because modern couture is inaccessible to most consumers and there's so much happening in the world, it's only natural for most to ask, Is haute couture really that serious? I'd never surmise that it would have the weight that so many other topics do in the world, but I'd also never discount its influence. Like it or not, couture has often acted as a reflection of current times—it can tell us what's happening in the stars and the stock exchange. Long before something blows up on TikTok, you better believe its origins can be traced back to couture fashion week.

The essence of what's fashionable always comes back to haute couture because it's about the craft of making clothing. It's not about hyperconsumption; it's about the art. That feels particularly topical as more conversations in the cultural canon center on the idea of adopting the quiet luxury ethos—the shift from keeping up with trends to investing in timeless items. Couture offers people a permission slip to escape from the never-ending trend cycle, and it's a way to fall in love with well-made clothing again. At best, couture can make us see the world in a new light or, at the very least, change our wardrobes. After hours of image research, I've narrowed down the six best spring/summer 2024 couture collections based on how they made haute couture feel relatable to our everyday lives. Plus, I've identified three looks from each show that are easy to re-create with shopping recommendations. Prepare to become a lover of haute couture.

When it comes to crafting otherworldly creations, none do so like Schiaparelli. Since its inception in 1927 by Elsa Schiaparelli, the atelier has pushed the boundaries of how we see the universe, one surrealist piece at a time. That legacy has lived on through Daniel Roseberry, as the creative director often pays homage to the house's rich history—the recent haute couture collection being no exception. The brand's show notes explained that Schiaparelli was "famously preoccupied with astrology." That interest was present throughout the spring/summer 2024 collection. Roseberry nodded to the astrological shift into the age of Aquarius (astrologers define the era as a period of innovative technological advancements and social revolutions) by mixing old-world elements with new-world shapes.

For example, there were obvious nods to technological elements through a body-con dress encrusted in "pre-2007 technological artifacts" and the life-sized baby robot styled with a tank top and low-slung cargo pants. But then there are more abstract references to Roseberry's home state of Texas, embodied through cowboy boots, layered buckles, and denim. The pairing of the seemingly opposite aesthetics accurately reflects the dichotomy of living in the modern world. It can be hard to see the wires that connect the past to the future—or how haute couture and ready-to-wear exist on the same planet—yet Roseberry managed to do just that. It will arguably be one of the most defining haute couture collections of our time.

Style notes: Although it's unlikely that you'll be able to get your hands on Schiaparelli's lifelike robot baby, the look above is easy to re-create in your everyday life.

Although couture is supposed to exist outside the realm of everyday clothing, the truth is that it doesn't. Couture reflects the space around us. It might not be what we wear daily, but it can connect us profoundly. Of course, not every maison can connect those dots for us, but not every brand has the same influence as Alaïa. Founded by Azzedine Alaïa in 1964, the Parisian atelier has a long history of using high-end craftsmanship to highlight the female form in an approachable way. That's no more apparent than with the brand's recent summer/fall 2024 couture show. Created by current Creative Director Pieter Mulier, it was, according to the brand, "based on the curve, on the circle, the curves of women, and circles of friends, of chosen family, an idea essential to the essence of Alaïa."

The idea of bringing curves to life is embodied through various silhouettes throughout the collection. Jeans came in a dramatic barrel cut to create a rounded shape. Similarly, multiple looks within the collection featured a unique technique in which single strands of merino wool yarn were draped to create circular-shaped skirts and dresses that moved as models walked. Even outside the realm of clothing silhouettes, we saw the concept brought full circle through accessories—reference the oversize bangles, pumps with arced heels, and handbags with sharp curves. The collection proved that the relationship between haute couture and ready-to-wear isn't linear. It's a curve. All of it is connected. You just have to have a master like Mulier to show you the way.

Style notes: Since full circle skirts were the focal point of much of the collection, re-creating the look requires keeping your styling minimal. Wear a neutral turtleneck and pumps to keep attention on the skirt and jewelry.

In recent years, there have been many conversations surrounding the future of high fashion. In an age where pragmatism is prioritized over idealism, being in the business of haute couture doesn't always translate. One atelier has managed to move the needle on the "dialogue between poetry and reality": Fendi. Since its inception in 1925, the Italian house has made the case for couture's place in contemporary life, but the brand's spring/summer 2024 couture show feels particularly reflective of that aim. As Artistic Director Kim Jones detailed in the show's notes, "In the collection, there is humanism at the heart of this future. There's the body, the silhouette within the silhouette, the person, and the handwork of the couture. The collection is about structure and decoration, where the two become indivisible. I wanted an idea of precision and emotion at once."

The aim to blur the lines between couture and prêt-à-porter was achieved through how the skills of artisans were used in conversation with classic silhouettes. For instance, the sharply tailored separates that have proliferated ready-to-wear collections over the last few seasons were elevated through exotic textiles and embroidery techniques. Similarly, the staple rib-knit dress was given a stylish upgrade through a knotting technique that creates a swaddle around the shoulders and bustier. Then there were the accessories, which took some of the more approachable Fendi items, including its popular baguette bag and eyewear, and gave them bespoke upgrades. The result was a collection that managed to connect the two worlds, harmonizing the past and the future in one Fendi collection.

Style notes: The key to making Fendi's couture collection feel much closer to home lies in accessories that pay homage to the show. A pair of rimless sunglasses styled with a tailored leather coat and pumps should do the trick.

It would be misguided to think that couture collections don't somehow inform our broader culture, especially since Chanel has proven otherwise. After Gabrielle Chanel swung open the doors of her atelier in 1910, the French fashion house helped shift almost every aspect of society throughout the 20th century. Chanel's couture collections have often existed at the nexus of culture—highlighting the intersection between high art, high fashion, and social hierarchies. Just to put it into perspective, Chanel released its signature tweed sets when it was socially unacceptable for women to wear suits. Before the ballet became an indication of highbrow art (or a trending fashion aesthetic), Chanel had close ties to the ballet, often creating for choreographers and dancers. Chanel couture has been a part of cultural movements, period.

That historical influence isn't lost on the brand's current creative director, Virginie Viard. When it came time to create the spring/summer 2024 collection, Viard was thinking about movement within the context of dance and beyond. We saw that reflected in Viard's showcasing of signature balletcore elements like tulle, ruffles, pleats, and lace throughout the collection. But it was not just the usage of bows and tights that made the collection feel reminiscent of dance; it was the ease of the clothing itself. With so much of traditional couture being, well, uncomfortable, it was refreshing to see buttoned blazers styled with tulle skirts and minidresses with tights. It felt emblematic of what Chanel has always been about—giving women the freedom to move. From that liberation comes a new way in which we're able to see haute couture's role in culture.

Couture has always been in a constant state of evolution. In many ways, how we collectively define "couture" reflects the relationships humanity has with its clothing. Long before the industrial revolution, one could argue that all clothing could have been considered couture because there were no systemized clothing-production methods. Of course, the quality of clothing has always been a visual indicator of social class. On the whole, it was only after the democratization of fashion through industrialization that couture came into its distinct category, separate from ready-to-wear. One could argue that the French fashion house Dior helped shape that distinction. Throughout its almost 80-year tenure, the atelier has championed craftsmanship and challenged our perspective of clothing, including in its spring/summer 2024 couture collection.

As explained in the brand's notes, the show was called Big Aura because of how Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri sees the evolution of couture. She explained, "Haute couture is a perpetually fertile ground for contemplation where the reproduction of the original is never the same. Each piece is bound to be adapted to the body of the wearer and carries its own specific aura." We might live in the age of mass-produced fashion, but Grazia Chiuri reminds us that clothing should evolve with us. This was displayed throughout the show as various archival looks (e.g., blazers with nipped-in waists and capes made from moiré) were revised to make them feel contemporary. The result was a collection that exemplified the idea that couture serves as a collective memory.

No other brand has pushed the boundaries of how we view haute couture and how it influences the culture better than Jean Paul Gaultier. The eponymous label was founded by the French designer in 1982, quickly making waves in the fashion world for its unconventional, gender-fluid designs that challenged everything from traditional ideas surrounding beauty to what textiles can be considered high-end—Gaultier was one of the first designers to use denim in couture. His work was spotted in music videos and movies, cementing couture into the cultural canon in an unparalleled way. But the influence does not stop there. When Gaultier decided to retire in 2020, rather than shuttering the house, he decided to create collaboration collections with various designers each season.

With every collaboration, we've been able to see designers reimagine the rich archives of the house, and we're reminded that couture, like any art form, is meant to provoke and inspire. Simone Rocha managed to do both with her guest spring/summer 2024 couture collection. Nodding to sultry elements of the couture house, Rocha gave them a softer take. For example, Jean Paul Gaultier's iconic cross-laced corsetry came in the form of a satin pink dress. Similarly, the cone-shaped bustier that's synonymous with the brand's overall sensual aesthetic was affixed to a black dress with a nipped-in waist and ball gown–shaped skirt to create a subversive take on romantic fashion. Through the collaboration, Rocha was able to bring a new perspective to the couture house in a way that captivated the internet. It's served as a reminder that couture doesn't have to be out of reach—it can be a part of the conversation with the right creative vision behind it.

That's where I come in. Even if you weren't watching every livestreamed show as they took place like I was, you'd want to know the trends that debuted there and steal them. 

From rugged work coats at Louis Vuitton and Prada (you might remember their lauded appearance in the spring/summer 2024 womenswear collection) to fashion-friendly, undeniably chic groutfits seen at Valentino and Sabato De Sarno's first menswear show for Gucci, the eight trends ahead include a little bit of everything cool right now in fashion. Scroll down to meet them all.

Ever since Prada debuted its S/S 24 collection that featured a delicate mixture of ghostly frocks, flowing fringe skirts, and rugged chore jackets, the fashion world has been enamored with any outerwear that's made of waxy cotton or canvas and features a corduroy collar. The trend isn't going to end when summer does. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons as well as Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton and Kim Jones at Dior are all making it crystal clear in their fall/winter 2024 collections that workwear in the form of chore and country coats will reign for the entirety of the year.

Your social media feed might not have been inundated with menswear content last week, but mine was, and a majority of it was tied to the many glove moments from the shows in both Milan and Paris. Specifically, Gucci's burgundy and bright-green gloves that strategically matched each model's oversize Jackie bags were a fan favorite—as were the elbow-length leather styles seen at Dries Van Noten, a trend that's very much spreading on the womenswear side of things as well.

Just like the sky outside this winter, gray was impossible to miss on the menswear runways this season. Highlights include the heavy gray��hoodie styled alongside charcoal trousers and a tie-clad button-down shirt at Valentino and the single-breasted fuzzy coat at Gucci that was paired with a matching skinny necktie, gloves, a bag, and trousers. In other words, the groutfit is here, and it looks damn good—no sweatpants in sight.

If you're on the hunt for a new jewelry trend that doesn't yet feel overdone, look no further than the growing brooch fad, which is perfect for making your oversize, outfit-covering coats feel stylized and interesting during the colder months of the year. Though brands like Loewe, Saint Laurent, and Gucci are already dabbling in the brooch game, my favorite destination for lapel adornments is the vintage market, where there's a seemingly endless supply of baubles for you to choose from.

I know, I know—wearing corduroys for fall isn't exactly a groundbreaking phenomenon, but after finding the wide-wale, split-hem versions at Fendi, every other pair ever made in the autumnal fabric flew out the window. Then more arrived at S.S.Daley and Neil Barrett, and just like that, I knew that a new, very chic dawn was on the horizon for the formerly slept-on pant trend. I, for one, can't wait.

If you love the idea of a turtleneck sweater but hate how constricting it tends to feel whenever you step foot inside a heated office, restaurant, or home after being out in the cold, this knitwear trend is going to solve all of your fashion problems. Found at Hermès, Wales Bonner, Gucci, and Todd Snyder were oversize and spread-out collars, some of which can zip or button up to become a turtleneck with none of the restrictive qualities.

Canadian tuxedos rarely get the attention they deserve when they're styled on the streets, but they really don't on the runways, where either far more formal or out-there ensembles take precedence over casual ones like double denim. But not this season. From Louis Vuitton's Western-inspired take to Dries Van Noten's denim double-breasted suit, jeans were styled from head to toe all across the fall collections, finally getting a stage worthy of their glory.

Sometimes, the least flashy pieces are the most interesting ones, especially when it comes to menswear. Nowhere was this idea presented more clearly than in the suits shown on the fall/winter 2024 runways. Forget oversize suits and cutouts—at Gucci, Prada, Dries Van Noten, Dior, and more, officewear was all about a return to classic tailoring. Prada took the double-breasted route, while timeless tuxedo silhouettes won out at Dries.
