Of course, with so many iconic movie brides to reference—Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate! Sophie in Mamma Mia!—Juliet in Love Actually—it’s only fitting that this trope gets thrust into the spotlight on film’s night of nights. Leading the charge was none other than Emma Stone, who arrived in a bespoke Louis Vuitton gown. Featuring an open back, shimmering details, and severe capped sleeves that emulate the Empire era, the two-time Best Actress winner arrived at the Dolby Theatre to mark her seventh nomination at the ceremony.

Later in the evening, Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently made her comeback to the screen as a past-her-prime actress in Marty Supreme, made an appearance to add another entry in her canon of memorable red carpet looks. Though every event plays host to a showstopping assortment of red carpet ensembles, from the stunning gowns to the trendsetting hairstyles, the stars save their best for the Oscars, and the 2026 show is shaping up to have some of the best beauty looks I've seen in a minute.

Don't get me wrong. I love a classic updo and perfectly manicured hands. However, the one thing that sets my soul on fire is red carpet makeup—so much so that I asked my fellow beauty editors to fan-cast our favorite nominees' makeup looks for the evening. The one thing we didn't see coming was the monochrome-makeup trend that suddenly yet swiftly took center stage, and I'm simply itching to re-create these looks myself. Below, see the matchy-matchy lip and eye moments from Jessie Buckley, Emma Stone, Renate Reinsve, and more that played oh so perfectly with their Oscar-worthy gowns.

Not to toot my own horn, but I did predict Buckley's red-lip look. The Best Actress nominee matched her scarlet lips to her two-toned Chanel gown, making this look an instant classic. I theorize that the vermillion accents could be a sweet nod to her character Agnes Shakespeare's signature red frock, but that's just me.

Wunmi Mosaku's deep-sea turquoise gown caught my eye immediately, but her shimmering shadow made me stay. The Sinners star matched her sparkling custom Louis Vuitton gown with a pop of reflective teal eye shadow on the inner corners of her eyes, which happens to be one of 2026's top red carpet trends, according to our senior beauty editor Jamie Schneider's robust reporting. According to Chase Infiniti's makeup artist, Amber Dreadon, the actress's custom Louis Vuitton dress was the ultimate source of inspiration. Perhaps inspired by the fiery aesthetic of her heavily nominated film, the actress tied in her red Gaurav Gupta dress with cherry-colored glam, including bright-red lips and berry-hued blush.

Renate Reinsve has been dominating award season in the style category, but my eyes were on her red lip (and sculptural hip-high slit) tonight. Perfectly matching her custom Louis Vuitton gown is her matte LV lipstick in orange-red Vuittamine, which I'm adding to my cart as we speak.

Watch out, Freddie Freeman. Emma Stone has a world-class batting average at the Academy Awards. Of her four acting nominations, she's won twice: once for La La Land in 2017 and a second time for Poor Things in 2024. For comparison, Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated eight times but has only won once.

I'm no movie critic, so I won't comment on whether I think she'll win Best Actress for Bugonia at the 2026 ceremony on Sunday, March 15, but I am definitely qualified to discuss her Oscars red carpet looks. In my mind, her Academy Awards style evolution can be divided into two parts: BLV and ALV (before Louis Vuitton and after Louis Vuitton). She signed a contract with the famed French house in October 2017, so 2018 was her first Oscars appearance as brand ambassador. She followed that up with a pair of unexpectedly sculptural LV dresses in 2019 and 2024, which were stark departures from the more conventional looks she wore earlier in her Oscars oeuvre. That said, she brought it full circle in 2025 with a sleek and sparkly nude LV gown reminiscent of her 2015 Elie Saab number and 2017 Givenchy frock.

The 2026 award season is coming to a close, and it seems that the nominees, presenters, and attendees are saving some of their best red carpet looks for last. Last night, the 32nd Actor Awards (aka, the award show formerly known as the SAG Awards) took place in downtown Los Angeles, and I found it to be a very chic red carpet. In contrast to the upcoming Oscar Awards, the Actor Awards offer the attendees the opportunity to have a bit more fun with their looks. They're not quite as formal as the Oscars, and many on the red carpet embraced the opportunity to take some fashion risks that undoubtedly paid off. It's also worth noting that for the first time in my memory for an award show, the red carpet had a theme—"Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the '20s and '30s"—and many on the red carpet seemed to let that guide what they chose to wear.

You may have seen our coverage of all the looks from the Actor Awards red carpet, as well as our exhaustive beauty coverage from the night, but now that we've all had some time to marinate on it, I've chosen the top five looks of the night. If I'm being honest, it wasn't all that easy—it was a very chic red carpet, with lots of looks that even the most discerning of fashion people would appreciate, but narrow it down I did. Emma Stone has become a staple on the red carpet, with a great many nominations and wins under her belt. And although I may personally be biased because I'm a fan, let me just say that she has been killing it on the award circuit this year. Stone, who was nominated for her work in Bugonia, and stylist Petra Flannery opted for a shimmery lilac Louis Vuitton gown with a matching shimmering cardigan. It had an effortless '90s minimalism feel to it and exemplified what cool girls wear on the red carpet in 2026.

New red carpet It girl Chase Infiniti, nominated for One Battle After Another, also opted for Louis Vuitton. Her wheat-colored formfitting long-sleeve gown and cloche-style mesh cap perfectly represented the theme and felt glamorous yet modern. She said in a red carpet interview that she was going for a Josephine Baker look, and she undoubtedly succeeded.

Sarah Pidgeon

Sarah Pidgeon, another new face on the red carpet this year, has seen her star in Hollywood and the fashion world rise in recent months, given her spot-on portrayal of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Pidgeon wore a pale pink tulip-shaped strapless gown from Balenciaga's S/S 26 collection, and it pretty much solidified her as the new fashion It girl who I hope will be a fixture on red carpets for years to come. Taking fashion risks right out of the gate is always a good idea, if you ask me.

Demi Moore

Whenever I receive a press release that someone will be wearing Schiaparelli on the red carpet, I know it's going to be a dramatic, showstopping moment, and that's exactly what it was when Demi Moore stepped on the red carpet wearing a S/S 26 couture gown by the fashion house. According to Schiaparelli, the sculptural black bustier gown was made of black wool crêpe embellished with a satin-stitch trompe l’œil crocodile tail, and the white tulle "cloud" at the back was embroidered with 8500 black mimosas in silk thread and over 11,000 crystals. Breathtaking, to say the least.

Last but not least, Kate Hudson, nominated for Song Sung Blue, went with an ethereal bridal-esque gown, custom-made by Valentino. It was the perfect example of the glamorous, romantic Grecian-inspired aesthetic that was popular in the 1930s, in keeping with the theme for the night.

Is anyone tired of award shows yet? I'm not. I may be biased, but I think it's fun to see what celebrities choose to wear to high-profile events like the Golden Globes, Grammys, and the Independent Spirit Awards. I've thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Chase Infiniti's breakout red carpet season and following Elle Fanning's road to her first Oscars nomination. Tonight, we have one last stop before the Academy Awards, which will be held on Sunday, March 15.

The occasion? The Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards. Hosted by Kristen Bell, the ceremony will hand out statues for acting roles across both film and television. (Unlike other shows, there are no non-acting categories such as writing and directing.) However, for the talented guests at London’s Southbank Centre for the 2026 BAFTA Awards, it wasn’t their respective movies that influenced their fashion choices, but the colour of the iconic River Thames that flanks them.

Indeed, with Hollywood’s elite descending on the United Kingdom, it’s only fitting that they take inspiration from their surroundings by saturating the red carpet in shades of navy blue. From homegrown talent like former Who What Wear UK cover star Olivia Cooke to three-time Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan, who also sparkled in radiant Tiffany & Co. jewellery, this dark, moody and sophisticated neutral served as the shade du jour for the evening.

Elsewhere across the event, Kerry Washington, who is presenting an award, arrived in a striking gown that boasts a sensual open back, pleated skirt and embroidered flowers that dusted the bodice. The top itself actually appeared to mimic an apron, which is a silhouette that’s been picking up moment after Mrs. Prada presented a range of smock-style dresses for Miu Miu’s spring/summer 2026 collection back in September during Paris Fashion Week.

However, the navy blue shade seemed to garner the most support from the British themselves. Given that the BAFTAs are held to fête their success in film and television, it’s only fitting that they steal the scene here. An honourable mention must be made to Adolescence star Erin Doherty in her peplum Louis Vuitton dress and striking Chaumet jewellery. Sitting down during the ceremony might be made difficult with the architectural number, but her continued commitment to structurally intriguing Nicolas Ghesquière creations deserves a nod in itself.

So, if you’re looking for a shade that’s an alternative to black or brown, but equally chic, this is proof that navy blue is it. And whilst it may take some time to adjust to, given how synonymous it is with military regalia like Napoleon jackets and school attire like knee-length pinafores, it’s actually proof that uniform dressing will always be stylish.

Picking out the right outfit for a long flight is never easy. You want to be comfortable, of course, but I, at least, also always want to look put-together. Fortunately, those two things aren't mutually exclusive. You can do both, and I just spotted a foolproof sartorial solution in the arrivals area at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on Emma Stone, who flew into the City of Lights for Paris Fashion Week.

This list is highly subjective, but I did my due diligence reviewing hundreds of outfits dating back decades. Everyone has been wondering if the rumors are true. Did Emma Stone shave her head? Has she been wearing a wig? These questions came up after she attended an event back in October. Eagle-eyed internet users speculated that she was wearing a wig because she had to shave her head for an upcoming role.

Well, it seems as if those internet users were right. Stone just debuted a new pixie cut on the Golden Globes red carpet. It's a fresh, mod departure from her signature shoulder-length style. Needless to say, we're obsessed. What's even better is that her hairstylist used only one product (yes, one!) to style the cut ahead of its red carpet debut. She said that she added pictures of Winona Ryder in 1996 and Liv Tyler in 1998 to her mood board. "It's been growing out, and it's looking so stunning—very '90s in that nostalgic way," she said.

I am also someone who is admittedly having trouble wrapping my head around the trend that I last wore approximately twenty years ago. We've been fans of Emma Stone since Superbad, so we're elated to see that the Poor Things star and Oscar contender is having a truly spectacular award season.

Celebrities have a penchant for wearing impractical shoes at the airport, so nothing surprises me anymore. Just this week, Victoria Beckham strutted through New York City's JFK Airport wearing pants with shoes attached—how she got through security is anyone's guess. 

I've become accustomed to seeing celebs wearing stilettos to the airport, but Emma Stone finally offered up a travel outfit idea that's both trendy and practical. Whilst the middle of winter typically calls for black, chunky boots that can fair the odd puddle with grace, two of my favourite celebrities have recently retired theirs in favour of a (slightly) less practical but far more fun style, readying me for spring in the process.

Just this week, I've seen both Hailey Bieber and Emma Stone wearing easy trouser looks with bright red flat shoes. Spotted out in L.A. and New York respectively, Bieber wore hers with a longline leather trench coat, black leather tote bag, blue jeans and a grey jumper. Needless to say, the addition of some vibrant red shoes went a long way to inject some energy into her casual yet put-together look.

The red accessories trend first began ramping up towards the end of last year, as celebrities swapped their black, brown and beige leather goods for the fiery new-season shade. Quickly appearing on the high street, brands began to produce an array of paintbox pieces which were swiftly snapped up by those in the know. Now that spring 2024 is finally on the horizon, it looks like the style set are ready to step into their ruby slippers again. 

Worn in a similar relaxed fashion as Bieber, Stone opted for a light grey jumper and navy trousers for her red-shoe outing. Finishing the look with minimal accessories, her red loafers were absolutely the intended focal point of the outfit, and one I wouldn't mind channelling myself as I too find my trusty ankle boots losing their appeal. From Duke + Dexter's croc-effect loafers to H&M's sleek pointed-toe slingbacks, the red flats trend is set for another stormer this season.

Thin hair may be low maintenance in some aspects (it requires little time to blow-dry and your salon appointments will be kept short), but it’s notoriously one of the most difficult hair types to style. Your main goal is probably all about adding lift, volume, and movement in order to create the illusion of thicker hair, but it takes more than a little effort to maintain shape and prevent roots from falling flat.

Of course, as with any hair type, getting the right haircut for thin hair sets the best foundation for finding a foolproof hairstyle. So what kinds of cuts should thin hair types request from the hairdresser? "Shorter styles adding textured layers for lots of movement can help the hair to look thicker and give body,” advises hairstylist and content creator Holly Carr. "And mid-length styles with soft face shaping are great for adding soft waves and still being able to put up. If you have long hair then Carr recommends keeping the weight in the ends. "Blunt cuts can help to keep the ends looking thicker and healthier for longer.”

When it comes to styling, Carr recommends creating waves or curls to add fullness. "You can curl the hair underneath or bring just a couple of pieces around the ears forwards toward the face,” she says. "This creates the illusion of thicker hair around the neck and face.” And for those who prefer up-dos? "Textured hair ups are also great,” she adds. "Try lifting the hair at the crown for volume and at the sides for width while any loose pieces add detail.”

So if you thought that having thin hair meant you didn’t have options, think again. With the right styling techniques and products, you’ll have hair that appears thick and voluminous in no time. Here are some of our favourite low maintenance hairstyles for thin hair.

1. Tucked Back Waves

By tucking hair behind her ears, model Karlie Kloss employs the subtle trick of keeping hair in one place to make it appear thicker.

2. Flicky Blowdry

The '90s style flicky blowdry is an effortless way to volumise thin hair. Use a round brush or your straighteners to shape hair inwards.

3. Half-Up Half-Down

Rihanna's hair looks extra voluminous when styled half-up half-down. Add a volumising mist (or in a pinch, dry shampoo) to the lengths for an extra volume boost.

4. Alternated Curls

Carr recommends curling hair in alternate directions to add volume and shape through the lengths of thin hair. It's a technique that Victoria Beckham gets right every single time.

5. Voluminous Waves

Adding volume to the roots (with some subtle backcombing) and to the ends (wide barrel tongs work best) makes hair look thicker by creating height and fullness.

6. Soft Waves

Soft, mismatched waves are a great way to add movement and dimension. Hide thin ends by curling hair from the bottom up.

7. Fluffy Fringe

Don't be afraid to experiment with a fringe even if you have thin hair. A soft, fluffy effect works best.

8. Structured Bob

Shaping hair into sculpted waves both helps to lift and emphasise the angles of your face and creates the appearance of lifted, more buoyant hair.

9. Wavy Chignon

Thin hair in an up-do doesn't have to look flat - case in point above. Curl or wave your hair before styling the up-do in order to create texture from the roots.

10. Layered Fringe

While Carr advises against a super layered look (this will thin hair out even further), a few short face-framing layers from the fringe is a great way to add shape to thin hair.

11. Bubble Ponytail

The on-trend bubble ponytail is a fun option for thin hair since it adds shape and structure throughout the lengths.

12. Angled Cut

An angled cut with longer strands towards the front adds movement and creates the illusion of more hair. Style with loose curls, like Keira Knightley, to add additional oomph.

13. Ribbon Up-Do

Not only does a ribbon distract from thin hair by adding additional movement to the lengths of your ponytail, but it's also incredibly on trend.

14. Sleek Low Bun

Looking for a low maintenance style? Sometimes you just can't beat a super sleek low bun. It may not add tons of volume, but it is super easy to recreate.

15. Curly Top-Knot

This take on a top-knot is a great option for thin curly hair as it requires a slicked-back style from the roots and focuses all the attention in one place.

16. Long Bob

Curling hair inwards and underneath is a foolproof hack for disguising thin, straggly ends.

17. Super High Ponytail

Styling hair into a super high ponytail not only creates height but allows lengths to fall with volume. Combine with curls for further depth and fullness.

18. Side Part

The combination of a side part and soft, textured waves is what makes Cameron Diaz's style so perfect. Add a little mousse to the roots before blowdrying, and be sure to spritz a texture spray through your lengths to prevent hair from falling flat during the day.

19. Wavy Ends

Straight hair doesn't need to lack volume or shape. A little lift at the roots paired with waved out ends (create them with your straighteners) makes the overall effect seem fuller.

20. Half Up-Do With Piecey Waves

Combine loose, piecey waves with a half-up half-down style, and face framing strands and you'll have thicker, fuller-looking hair in less than five minutes.

21. Bouffant Roots With Extreme Side-Part

Flipping hair into an extreme side-part is the oldest trick in the book for adding instant volume. To maintain lift, backcomb roots before flipping, then lightly brush over the top for a sleek finish.

22. Low Bun With Scrunchie

Take a cue from Rachel Nguyen and twist a scrunchie into your bun to make it look thicker. Not to mention, it requires minimal effort.

23. Messy Up-Do

Proving that a messy up-do will literally never go out of fashion, Gigi Hadid's 'off-duty model' hairstyle ticks all of the boxes. Fluffy ends? Check. Face-framing strands? Check. Volume at roots? Check.

24. Bouffant Ponytail

Zendaya's bouffant ponytail is a lesson in disguising thin hair. Combining a deep side-part with lifted roots and curly lengths, it's classic and modern all at once.

25. Straight and Sleek

Sometimes you've just got to embrace thin hair (especially when you're pressed for time). A super sleek, straight style with lift at the roots (spray in a little dry shampoo and you're good to go) is totally foolproof.

26. Twisted Up-Do

If your thin hair doesn't quite make it into a satisfying bun or ponytail, one way to hide thin ends is to twist them into an elegant up-do. All you'll need is bobby pins. Gently tease out a few strands from the roots to add extra texture.

Opting for a long, sculpted bob with shorter layers on top and longer layers underneath adds instant body and dimension. It's also a great way to show off your natural curls.

A blunt bob may require regular upkeep, but it does help to prevent wispy ends, a tell-tale sign of thin hair. Lucy Boynton styles hers with loose alternated waves for added volume.

33. Beachy Waves

Beachy waves are a classic way to add volume and texture to long thin hair since they create the appearance of movement. If your hair doesn't naturally hold a curl, a salt spray will give a welcome helping hand.

Loose waves are a hairstylist's favourite trick for adding volume. By creating body and movement they prevent hair from falling flat around the face.

35. Micro-Bob With Fringe

My love for Angelina Jolie was cemented by her 2009 Oscars red carpet look. While some critics may consider the 2012 black high-slit Atelier Versace gown her best look of all time, I’ll go to bat for this look. Yes, the Elie Saab gown stole my heart, but Jolie’s stunning emerald earrings are what sealed the deal—the dramatic colour contrast, the size, and her damn cheekbones just make this look too divine for humanity.

WEAR: Givenchy Couture gown

Zoe Saldana’s 2010 Oscars red carpet look is lauded as one of the best looks of all time (for a good reason). While the star was nominated for the film Avatar that year, it’s her dress that was the genuinely out-of-this-world thing—the sequins and ombré tulle make this Givenchy Couture gown designed by Riccardo Tisci a celestial piece of Oscars history.

Yes, her Ellie Saab gown for the ceremony was stunning, but nothing quite distills the "J.Lo aesthetic” like this full-length sequin Zuhair Murad Couture dress and white fur stole. My only question is, does love not cost a thing? Because this gown sure looks like a million bucks.

If I could frame this photo of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles dancing at the 2015 Vanity Fair Oscars Party, I would. Does that make me an obsessive member of the Bey-hive? Sure. But the Knowles sisters never fail to serve a look—these matching white gowns are proof.

Whenever I see another red carpet look from the one-and-only Jane Fonda, I always pray that I can look as fabulous as her when I grow up. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to be able to wear a full-sequin Zuhair Murad Haute Couture jumpsuit, but then again, it’s Jane Fonda, and no one else can serve a red carpet look like her.

Whether you’re a Scandal fan or just a Kerry Washington stan, the power of the ensemble she wore to the 2016 Oscars can not be understated. She slayed that carpet like a gladiator in head-to-toe (the ponytail, the Atelier Versace gown with a leather bodice and a high-slit, and the see-through Schutz heels) perfection.

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about the incredible celebrity and stylist pairing that is Zendaya and Law Roach. Zendaya, why do you do this to me?

WHO: Saoirse Ronan

Compared to the over-the-top numbers the Oscars red carpet has seen in the past, Saoirse Ronan’s strapless pink Calvin Klein dress isn’t overly exuberant. But the oversize bow in the back makes this a lesson in understated elegance. This look could have been worn to the Oscars in the ‘50s or could easily make a statement well into the future. That’s what makes it iconic.

The 2019 Academy Awards was a huge night for Regina King, as she not only won Best Supporting Actress for the film If Beale Street Could Talk, but she also donned one of her best red carpet looks to date. Of course, King fans are well aware that she’s often one of the most stylish characters on-screen, but the stunning white Oscar de la Renta gown paired with matching Christian Louboutin shoes proved she’s a style icon IRL, too.

If you weren’t already a self-proclaimed Little Monster (like myself), the 2019 Oscars could have felt as if a star was born that evening. Of course, real Lady Gaga fans know she’s served iconic looks for years; her Oscar win (for best original song), the Alexander McQueen dress, and the yellow Tiffany & Co. necklace had her shinin’ like never before.

WHO: Janelle Monáe

I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it: Janelle Monáe does not play when it comes to her style. No gown better encompasses that ethos than the crystal-lacquered silk lamé, tulle mesh Ralph Lauren gown—featuring a draped hood and an open back—she wore to the 2020 Oscars. It took over 600 hours of handwork to embroider 168,000 Swarovski crystals on the dress, making it a masterpiece we won’t forget.

WHO: Timothée Chalamet and Margot Robbie

WEAR: On Timothée Chalamet: Prada jacket and trousers; Cartier Tradition brooch

If you know, you know that Timothée Chalamet is never one to shy away from serving a look. (He’ll wear men’s jewellery with ease.) Of course, that fearlessness is sometimes met with mass critique, most recently including strong feelings around his 2020 Oscars outfit. Instead of sticking to a tuxedo, he opted for an anti-suit: a Prada Re-Nylon gabardine jacket with satin racing stripes and matching Prada Re-Nylon trousers over a white poplin shirt. He finished the look with a Cartier Tradition brooch with 18k white gold, platinum, rubies, and diamonds. While the critics may not have been here for it, I have a feeling this look will go down in history as ushering in a new way for men to approach their Oscars red carpet looks.

One person can bring life or death by serving a look, and that’s no other than Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve star Sandra Oh. Her 2020 Vanity Fair Oscars Party look (a grey, floor-length, sequinned, feather-embellished, deep V-neck Cong Tri dress) had me in shambles.

By now, you know that a list of the best Oscars looks of all time is subjective and ever-changing in the face of trends. Occasionally, there are hidden gems—like this Oscar de la Renta look Janet Mock wore to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party—that go unnoticed. There are a lot of reasons someone might have thinner hair, from genetics to postpartum hair loss. And while hair thinning is more common as we get older, anyone of any age can have thin hair, or fine hair (aka hair that's physically smaller in diameter than its fuller counterparts). That's why, as always, the right haircut can be a total game-changer. 

No matter your hair length or texture, your next cut is just a scroll away. We caught up with three ultra-talented hairstylists—Sanda Petrut of Maxine Salon in Chicago, celebrity stylist Joseph Maine, and Ryan Trygstad of Mark Ryan Salon in New York City—to find out their tips for cutting and styling thin and fine hair, as well as the best products to use for styling it. (Best of all: Not an extension in sight.)

The Hairstylist: Sanda Petrut of Maxine Salon in Chicago

"So many factors are taken into consideration when choosing a haircut for thin hair," explains Petrut. "Is it thin on top? Is it thin on the sides? Is it thin all over? Is it thin due to illness? Is it thin due to ageing? I also consider features and lifestyle," says the stylist.

Petrut also pays close attention to length and texture. "For thin, straight hair I may choose a shorter haircut with clean lines. Maybe a little graduation or a little layer if hair density supports it," she says. 

"For medium-to-long hair length, I’ll choose a long fringe and/or framing," she says.

Finally, "If hair is wavy or curly I would definitely add layers," she says. "The layers would add volume and the hair would appear thicker."

The Hairstylist: Joseph Maine, Celebrity Stylist, and Color Wow Artistic Director 

"Typically, I recommend blunt haircuts or haircuts with very little layering for thin hair because you don’t want to remove density from the ends," says Maine. However, he says, "There are still ways to add shape by face-framing or adding minimal 'hidden layers.'"

For loose, voluminous curls like Jennifer Lawrence's, Maine recommends blowing hair out with a diffuser.

Rashida Jones's haircut may volley from chin to shoulder length, but she usually avoids layers to keep it looking fuller.

The Hairstylist: Ryan Trygstad, Celebrity Stylist and Co-Founder of Mark Ryan Salon in New York City

The hairstylist agrees that blunt cuts can be fantastic on thinner hair. "Mid-to-shorter lengths are great because the hair looks fuller," explains Trygstad, who adds that "Finer hair types are less likely to have a pyramid- or triangle-shaped style." 

One reason Jamie Chung's lob looks so sleek and cool? "Blunt shapes are better for fine hair," says Trygstad.

There are very few artists in the world who have won an EGOT—Whoppi Goldberg is one of them. Goldberg is the first-ever African American to be nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress (which she won in ‘91 for her performance in Ghost). Guess it pays to think outside the box (or just to be Celine Dion).

My love for Angelina Jolie was cemented by her 2009 Oscars red carpet look. While some critics may consider the 2012 black high-slit Atelier Versace gown her best look of all time, I’ll go to bat for this look. Yes, the Elie Saab gown stole my heart, but Jolie’s stunning emerald earrings are what sealed the deal—the dramatic color contrast, the size, and her damn cheekbones just make this look too divine for humanity.

Former cover star Zoe Saldana’s 2010 Oscars red carpet look is lauded as one of the best looks of all time (for a good reason). But the attention should have been focused on how they both handled the night with such grace (which is easy to do when you’re wearing Dior or Prada) and took away Oscars, too.

Genuinely speaking, there is not a more iconic Oscars red carpet moment in recent history than Lupita Nyong’o’s 2014 ensemble. What made this look historic (other than her win of Best Supporting Actress that year) was this crystal-pleated, powder-blue, deep V-neck Prada gown. We could stare at this look forever.

It’s no secret that Jennifer Lopez has her fair share of iconic looks; however, none quite hold the same place in my heart as her 2015 Oscars After-Party outfit. Yes, her Ellie Saab gown for the ceremony was stunning, but nothing quite distills the "J.LO aesthetic” like this full-length sequin Zuhair Murad Couture dress and white fur stole. My only question is, does love not cost a thing? Because this gown sure looks like a million bucks.

Let it be stated for the internet records that Emma Stone is secretly that girl who always brings her A game to the red carpet. Case in point: the green floor-length, high-slit, and sequinned Elie Saab gown she wore to the 2015 Academy Awards. This isn’t a bad look; it’s a super-bad look if you catch my drift.

Whenever I see another red carpet look from the one-and-only Jane Fonda, I always pray that I can look as fabulous as her when I grow up. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to be able to wear a full-sequin Zuhair Murad Haute Couture jumpsuit, but then again, it’s Jane Fonda, and no one else can serve a red carpet look like her.

WHAT: 2016 Academy Awards

WEAR: Atelier Versace gown; Schutz shoes

Whether you’re a Scandal fan or just a Kerry Washington stan, the power of the ensemble she wore to the 2016 Oscars can not be understated. She slayed that carpet like a gladiator in head-to-toe (the ponytail, the Atelier Versace gown with a leather bodice and a high-slit, and the see-through Schutz heels) perfection.

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about the incredible celebrity and stylist pairing that is Zendaya and Law Roach. The style companions have served us some of the most iconic red carpet looks to date, including this stunning floor-length, off-the-shoulder, chocolate-brown Giambattista Valli number. Zendaya, why do you do this to me?

Compared to the over-the-top numbers the Oscars red carpet has seen in the past, Saoirse Ronan’s strapless pink Calvin Klein dress isn’t overly exuberant. But the oversize bow in the back makes this a lesson in understated elegance. This look could have been worn to the Oscars in the ‘50s or could easily make a statement well into the future. That’s what makes it iconic.

Of course, King fans are well aware that she’s often one of the most stylish characters on-screen, but the stunning white Oscar de la Renta gown paired with matching Christian Louboutin shoes proved she’s a style icon IRL, too.

If you weren’t already a self-proclaimed Little Monster (like myself), the 2019 Oscars could have felt as if a star was born that evening. I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it: Janelle Monáe does not play when it comes to her style. No gown better encompasses that ethos than the crystal-lacquered silk lamé, tulle mesh Ralph Lauren gown—featuring a draped hood and an open back—she wore to the 2020 Oscars. It took over 600 hours of handwork to embroider 168,000 Swarovski crystals on the dress, making it a masterpiece we won’t forget.

If you know, you know that Timothée Chalamet is never one to shy away from serving a look. (He’ll wear men’s jewelry with ease.) Of course, that fearlessness is sometimes met with mass critique, most recently including strong feelings around his 2020 Oscars outfit. Instead of sticking to a tuxedo, he opted for an anti-suit: a Prada Re-Nylon gabardine jacket with satin racing stripes and matching Prada Re-Nylon trousers over a white poplin shirt. He finished the look with a Cartier Tradition brooch with 18k white gold, platinum, rubies, and diamonds. While the critics may not have been here for it, I have a feeling this look will go down in history as ushering in a new way for men to approach their Oscars red carpet looks.

By now, you know that a list of the best Oscars looks of all time is subjective and ever-changing in the face of trends. As we are with many a celebrity wedding, we’re just as interested in what the stylish guests are wearing as we are in getting a glimpse of the bride’s dress. The latest A-list nuptials that have caught our attention? Jennifer Lawrence’s wedding to art dealer Cooke Maroney, which took place this past Saturday at Belcourt of Newport, a mansion in Rhode Island. We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since Lawrence wore a wedding dress to her engagement party last May. It’s rumoured that Lawrence wore Dior for her nuptials, a natural move given her relationship as an ambassador for the fashion house.

While we’re waiting for photos to surface of the bride, we’ll turn our attention to what the A-list guest list wore. Ashley Olsen attended on the arm of her boyfriend, Louis Eisner. The last outfit we documented of Olsen and Eisner together was decidedly more casual (only Olsen can make baggy pants and flats look that good), so we’re quite delighted to see how the pair does formal attire. As we are with many a celebrity wedding, we’re just as interested in what the stylish guests are wearing as we are in getting a glimpse of the bride’s dress. The latest A-list nuptials that have caught our attention? Jennifer Lawrence’s wedding to art dealer Cooke Maroney, which took place this past Saturday at Belcourt of Newport, a mansion in Rhode Island. We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since Lawrence wore a wedding dress to her engagement party last May. It’s rumored that Lawrence wore Dior for her nuptials, a natural move given her relationship as an ambassador for the fashion house.

While we’re waiting for photos to surface of the bride, we’ll turn our attention to what the A-list guest list wore. Ashley Olsen attended on the arm of her boyfriend, Louis Eisner. The last outfit we documented of Olsen and Eisner together was decidedly more casual (only Olsen can make baggy pants and flats look that good), so we’re quite delighted to see how the pair does formal attire. Last night, the 90th Annual Academy Awards—the culmination of an unprecedented awards season— took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and the red carpet ensembles were truly ones for the book. But the evening was far from over once the ceremony concluded. Besides her immense charm factor and top-notch acting skills, one thing we've noticed about Emma Stone over the years is that she loves ankle boots. She usually sticks to sleek classics like Chelsea boots in neutral hues, but for her latest choice, she went with something a little more forward, and it happens to be the trend that all the style bloggers are wearing right now—white ankle boots. Stone wore Acne Studios Jensen Grain Boots, the brand's modern iteration of Chelsea boots (and a longtime favourite of this editor). She combined the snowy white pair with a winter-appropriate outfit consisting of a peacoat and black cropped jeans, paired with a baseball cap and a scarf.

If worn with a pair of black ankle boots, the outfit would have been considerably more basic, but with the fresh, on-trend white boots, Stone's winter outfit was significantly elevated.
