If you're feeling as though being completely over winter has become your entire personality, might I suggest focusing on something else, and might I suggest that something be shoes? Sadly, many spring shoe trends can't be worn until the ice clears, but the one I keep spotting on celebrities in Paris for Haute Couture Fashion Week is all about a subtle detail that adorns a pair of heels, and there are iterations of the trend you can start wearing now.

The trend I'm referring to is bow heels, which draw inspiration from traditional ballet flats. They're basically heels adorned with small, delicate bows. They can be any type of heels, but I most often see them in the form of pumps or mule sandals. The former was just spotted on Alexa Chung, and the latter on Monica Barbaro, both of whom were in Paris to attend the Dior show.

Speaking of Dior, it's safe to say that Jonathan Anderson's S/S 2026 collection for the fashion house, which included many bow-adorned bags and shoes, has something to do with the trend. I just returned from a mid-November trip to NYC, and the coats were out in full force, folks. As one does in my profession, I kept constant tabs on the outerwear trends people were wearing, and more often than not, it was one specific style (that's as elegant and versatile as can be). I don't know about you, but whenever I wear something colorful, my first inclination is to wear black shoes. I'm also aware that non-black shoes are always a more interesting and often more successful choice. Elizabeth Olsen is one of the many It girls who know what I'm talking about.

It's been several days since the Los Angeles Dodgers dramatically won the World Series, but Elizabeth Olsen still isn't over it. On Wednesday, she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and spent a large chunk of her segment talking about her love for her hometown team. As much as I love all three Olsen sisters, there are some notable downsides to being invested in their style. Whether it's intentional or not, The Row has made a habit of taking ages-old shoe styles and putting a fresh twist on them—along with a near-$1k price tag. Regardless of the controversy around these shoes, they're always quick to sell out and go viral. Last summer, we had the brand's $890 Mara Flats, the jellies that proved they can, in fact, be elevated. For this spring (and impending summer), the controversial style that's selling out left and right is the Dune Flip-Flops.

The flat sandals feature thick grosgrain straps and rubber soles, and despite not even containing any leather, they retail for $690, hence the controversy. As someone who is on the petite side and not very adventurous when it comes to skirts, I'm pretty skeptical when there's a new trend circling, but I can be swayed. One thing that can admittedly sway me is a celebrity endorsement, like the one Elizabeth Olsen just gave what I consider to be the most controversial skirt trend of the season: knee-length skirts.

History shows that everything that was cool in the '90s (see Kate Moss example below) comes back around—even the trends that became controversial after they peaked. It's a great week to be an Olsen fan. I previously reported on Ashley Olsen's rare appearance, and now I'm talking about the other sister. No, not that one. Agree or disagree, I find that red shoes are quite classic. So in no way is this my PSA to stow away your red shoes, but the trend has been going strong for approximately two years now, and a new shoe color trend has officially entered the chat: pale-pink shoes. Actress Elizabeth Olsen, who falls into the latter camp, arrived at JFK airport yesterday wearing simple yet sensible pull-on ankle boots.

As almost every trip through security for myself has involved the removal of my shoes to pass through the body scanner, this is a topic that I feel very passionate about. But in the winter months, chances are you'll need much more coverage than flimsy ballet pumps. In all my years of flying, I've learned that pull-on ankle boots are the best for any fall/winter airport moment. Easy to slip on and off with no fiddly buckles, zips, or laces to slow you down, this practical boot trend even usurps strappy sandals and heeled Mary Janes, in my opinion.

These boots are perfect for pairing with fuzzy cashmere socks and prevent you from stepping through the airport barefoot when you inevitably have to remove them.

Olsen paired her chunky shoes with straight-leg jeans and a light brown blazer, accessorizing with simple black sunglasses and a large weekender bag. Olsen's lug-sole chunky boots also protected her from the puddle-adorned pavements that are everywhere this time of year.

Suiting separates are on our radar for fall, and Elizabeth Olsen may have just convinced us to ditch the jacket. The actress was recently spotted in New York City wearing gray wool trousers with a matching vest sans blouse. At first glance, this Moschino outfit looks like a classic two-piece combo, but further inspection led us to discover that the set is, in fact, a jumpsuit!

It's worth noting that boxer shorts were a trend last summer and are poised to return this year alongside pajama pants. The key to making loose cotton drawstring pants not look like you simply left the house in your pajamas is to pair them with structured pieces and shoes that don't resemble bedtime slippers. But let's get back to Olsen, who opted for a pair of blue-and-white striped pajama-like pants paired with sneakers. She looks chic and polished.

Getting bangs is a rite of passage in so many people’s lives, whether it’s done on a whim or after months of decision-making. "A straight across, blunt-style bang is best for a heart-shaped face,” recommends Scarlett. Don’t be afraid to go bold—a strong chin and cheekbones balances the hairstyle, as Rashida Jones demonstrates.

Embrace the curtain bang. "A center-parted, softly feathered ‘Bardot’ bang is most suitable for square-shaped faces,” explains Scarlett. Alexa Chung’s now-iconic soft bangs should be at the top of your Pinterest board.

If You Have a Small Forehead

Yes, you can get bangs! "For smaller foreheads, recommend that the bangs start further back on the hairline to give the illusion of a larger forehead,” explains Scarlett. Hannah Simone's fringe is a perfect example; her blunt style is set slightly past her hairline to allow for a little extra length.

Phew! Is it just me, or has this year been particularly filled with high-profile engagements? It seems like one celeb after the other has paired off, and we're definitely not complaining. For starters, we revel in seeing the beautiful engagement rings, as well as the creative or sentimental ways celebrities reveal the news. And most importantly, the biggest engagements of 2019 give us plenty of weddings to look forward to in 2020.

One of the most talked-about weddings next year will certainly be Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez's—they're a power couple if there ever was one. It’s official: Thanks to Elizabeth Olsen, we’re seeing green! The 30-year-old actress was spotted wearing a stunning emerald engagement ring while grocery shopping this past weekend in Los Angeles, confirming her previously speculated about engagement to longtime boyfriend, musician Robbie Arnett. 

Reminiscent of the green Infinity Stone set in the thumb of Avengers’ villain Thanos’s all-powerful gilded gauntlet, Olsen’s new emerald is probably even more precious to the actress best known for portraying Marvel's Scarlet Witch.

As seen in close-ups of Olsen’s new bling, the square-cut emerald is surrounded by an impressive halo of diamond baguettes and set on a thin yellow-gold band. "Elizabeth’s ring has a royal feel to it," explains James Schultz, founder, and chief customer officer of engagement ring e-tailer JamesAllen.com, noting that the style is similar to Kate Middleton’s iconic ring with its halo setting and unconventional gemstone center. "The emerald in Olsen's ring is around four carats, making the overall retail value somewhere between $200,000 and 250,000," he estimates.

This colorful gemstone and sparkly setting makes Olsen and Arnett the latest celebrity couple to eschew the traditional diamond solitaire, following the likes of Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom (a pink ruby surrounded by diamonds,) Avengers’ co-star Scarlett Johanssen and Colin Jost, (a pear-shaped brown diamond), and big sister, Mary-Kate Olsen, who wears a vintage Cartier engagement ring with diamonds and blue sapphires from husband Olivier Sarközy.

If we're being honest, figuring out what to wear to the airport during the winter is really confusing.
