If there’s one brand, one designer in particular, that has made an impact on the fashion industry since the much-anticipated debut collections from last September, it’s Matthieu Blazy for Chanel. It seems obvious to say, doesn’t it? But because you can’t open your Instagram feed, read a 2026 trend report or even browse your favourite high street stores without noting references to Blazy's designs, it’s an inescapable reality of fashion right now.

If this wasn’t evidence enough, Lyst’s Q1 Index for 2026 placed Chanel at number one on its list of hottest brands of the year, and it’s easy to see why. Be it his highly sought-after handbags which had influencers, stylists and editors practically squabbling over in stores, the much loved ready-to-wear collections shown in Paris and Biarritz or the divisive ‘naked’ sandals from the Cruise show that went viral, the industry right now is all about Blazy.

But the Blazy effect hasn’t just increased sales for Chanel directly, it’s increased sales on the second-hand market, too. The French luxury retailer is such a wanted brand that unsurprisingly now more than ever, people who perhaps can’t afford new Chanel, or can’t even get their hands on it even if they could, are looking to resale sites for new pieces, vintage accessories and collectors items.

Though some people are undeniably avid vintage shoppers (guilty as charged), it feels like it's taken a while for the world to catch up, for it to seem like less of a niche market. But, with the increased use and ease of platforms like Vinted, Depop, eBay and Vestiaire it’s no wonder it’s now much more common. So much so, Vinted was recently named the UK’s third largest retailer, overtaking M&S, H&M and Zara.

And it’s not just Blazy’s Chanel that is sought after. I’ve noticed many style insiders and celebrities wearing vintage Chanel Flap bags which were originally introduced in the 1950s, as well as the iconic Cambon bag and *those* Y2K ballet pumps that were a certified favourite of Lauren Conrad, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in the early 2000s.

As such, it would be a sin to speak of archive Chanel and not speak of Karl Lagerfeld, who was artistic director for the house from 1983 to his death in 2019, creating some of the most idolised collections, campaigns and runway shows in fashion history. This legacy, that was of course also built by Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel herself, has marked Chanel as a consistent investment item over history, much like art, fine jewellery or watches. Interestingly, Vestiaire reports that it is the number one brand for investment value on the platform, boasting a "Vestiaire Value Ranking" of 1404 points, outperforming Louis Vuitton (1227) and Hermès (1156).

But where to start if you're a novice, not an expert? As an avid second hand shopper (I actually just purchased my first Chanel bag this year on eBay), I’m often perplexed as to why some people don’t also love the thrill of buying vintage. Whenever I ask, I’m always met with the same answers: the feeling that it's a huge effort, the (largely misunderstood) idea that all second hand is too worn in and in bad condition, and not knowing what to look for or invest in.

Lucky for you, I have some expert advice that might help.

Which Chanel Items are Currently Trending on the Second Hand Market?

Amy Bannerman, eBay’s pre-loved style director, says that they have had multiple requests at the archive for the classic Chanel jacket, “Matthieu Blazy’s new collection is very “of the moment” and it has caused a bit of competitive shopping, but it just shows the these classic items stand the test of time.” As well as the classic Chanel jacket, eBay reports that “Chanel bowling bag” as a term has increased by 131% month-on-month since December 2025, proving the interest in styles from the early-mid noughties. Also from this era is the Cambon bag, Flap bag styles in metallic and gloss leather finishes, as well as the quilted ballet flats with the XXL monogram, all of which I'm seeing frequently on my feed right now. Adding to this, after years of quiet luxury, maximalism is back (powered by Blazy, of course). As such, we expect to see the rise of logos return again as we go into autumn and 2027, and is there a more iconic logo or monogram than Chanel's interlocking double 'C'?

If You Want ‘Blazy' Style Chanel But Pre-Loved, Which Eras or Pieces Should You Search For?

One of the eras Blazy is really bringing back is the '20s flapper girl aesthetic. Drop waists on dresses, long pearl necklaces, t-bar shoes and clutch bags with long chain straps all feature in the autumn/winter 2026 and Cruise collections. Blazy is really making a case for joyous dressing and 'dressing up' for any occasion. As such, looking for Chanel clutch bags especially those with fringe leather details on zippers, feel very "now," and are a fraction of the RRP. You can also easily find a lot of brooches, which are enjoying a huge comeback thanks to Blazy.

But probably the most wanted items, the pièce de resistance from Blazy's Chanel, are a certain style of shoe. "Everyone is going nuts for the two tone heels, and if you're looking for a sell-out style, you might already be able to find them with authenticity guarantee. Of course though, the two tone pumps are something Chanel has done time and time again, so these are always popping up," notes Bannerman.

Which Chanel Items Make the Best Investment Pieces?

Chanel items really are one of the best fashion investments you can make because they hold their value and are truly timeless. For Bannerman, handbags are the best bet. "A Chanel quilted bag is always a great investment, especially as they continue to rise in price. I bought my dream Chanel bag recently, a vintage flap bag on eBay which was only £700. It is interesting to note that Chanel have just launched a new bag under Matthieu’s direction which looks purposefully pre-loved but costs in excess of £10,000—this means I saved over £9000 by buying mine on eBay."

Whenever one speaks of 'investment pieces', watches and jewellery almost always come up, and Chanel's Première watch models are a signature I'd recommend looking out for. When it comes to jewellery—be it fine or costume—there's so much to discover. The classic monogram earrings, for example, whether in pearl or diamond or plain gold are an every day staple and perfect for gifts. Personally, I always seem to have Chanel evening bags on my eBay wish list. These bags might not be for the every day, but they don't date, and will incur compliments whenever you wear them. Whether you're at a wedding, Wimbledon or a Christmas party, a Chanel bag will always be an asset!

Which Vintage Chanel Items Are Most Worth Searching For?

Naturally, it depends on your personal style, and whilst yes—there are certain 'forever' pieces that won't date, like the aforementioned classic watches, jewellery and Flap bags, it's the more niche items I think are best found on pre-loved sites. The pieces I notice true fashion people wearing are those that are a little more unique, printed, colourful. I guess this proves the one downside to Blazy's overtly 'hyped' collections, is that the very nature of a something that sells out, means that many people have it. With secondhand, you might have to hunt for it, but you can find something more scarce. This might be gigantic earrings or a silk headscarf adorned with the iconic interlocked 'CC' monogram à la Sex and the City's Samantha Jones. Lagerfeld introduced a lot of sportier collections in the '90s and '00s, so you could bag yourself a duffle bag or a water bottle (you'd be surprised how many Chanel lifestyle accessories there are if you look). You never know, you may even be able to find yourself a Chanel surf or chess board, because yes—these do exist.

Which Era of Chanel Is More Affordable Now, But Will Likely Increase In Value?

Blazy has really revamped the classic Chanel tweed as well of course as the two-tone shoe, so the more traditional, pre-Lagerfeld era, Chanel ready-to-wear like the two-piece suits, court shoes are already on the rise. For Bannerman, her focus is the '80s, a huge trend for A/W26. "I am obsessed with the '80s and we are seeing a resurgence in '80s references and shape which I am thrilled about. The less popular 80s style bucket bags are so practical yet much cheaper than the quilted boxier versions. This one, for example, is a beauty." It goes without saying that the Y2K era is the fastest growing era for pre-loved Chanel. Whilst certain silhouettes like the Cambon and bowler bags are already sought after, many from this era are still quite forgotten, but not for long!

Keywords and specific styles to search for are the Bon Bon tote, the Matelassé and the Wild Stitch tote, which is a perfect work bag. But if I'm honest, those who list their items with specific names, years or eras are those most likely to know their true worth. You're better off searching more generically with keywords that match what you're looking for (colour, fabric i.e. caviar leather, quilted, nylon, for example) and taking the time to scroll. The best deals to be found are from those that don't know what they've got.

Recently, I wore a Yohji Yamamoto asymmetrical, backless blazer for an evening out dancing with my close friend, who wore an asymmetric minidress that had cascading tulle from one side to the other. It wasn't until later, looking at the photos we took together, that I noticed the similarity between our two outfits and realized just how subtly a trend can reveal itself. Embracing clothing that feels shifted, interrupted, or imperfect is trending on the resale market just as much, with searches for "asymmetry" up 34% by global eBay users, according to the most recent eBay Watchlist Trend Report, which is informed by current trends and based on global eBay search, sales, and listing data. I've also ever-so-subtly inserted the trend into my work with clients. Case in point: the Lanvin dress Katie Holmes just wore to the Carnegie Hall Concert of the Century in May, which included an asymmetric velvet bodice, a single bow at the shoulder, and a skirt made up of skinny strips of leather dotted with tiny jewels.

But how does one actually wear a trend that may feel too avant-garde in an everyday, natural way? That's what I dove into below.

My Tips for Styling the Asymmetric-Outfit Trend

Tip 1: Start Small

Start with one item of clothing that plays with asymmetry, like a skirt, and pair it with your favorite tee for a simple intro to disruption. Investing in a statement skirt will do the heavy lifting all summer long.

Tip 2: Lean Into Accessories

Try playing around with scarves and pareos! In a crunch, I've often tied a silk or cotton pareo as a top, creating instant drapery that you can tuck for asymmetrical flair. Searches for "scarf halter tops" are up 97% on eBay!

Tip 3: Blazers Are Key

Take inspiration from me (and global eBay shoppers) with an asymmetrical blazer, which has grown by 18% on eBay year over year from March 2025 to March 2026. This feels like a good iteration to dip your toe in. The blazer is a closet staple, so finding one that eases into the trend, where the hemline is slightly askew, will make an outfit with jeans way more interesting!

There are style evolutions, and then there are full resets. Right now, Julia Fox is firmly in the latter. When we spoke, she described a closet so packed it quite literally stopped functioning. The hangers didn't move, and getting dressed became less about intention and more about whatever was easiest to grab. Naturally, this meant falling back on the same pieces over and over again.

Now, she's letting it all go—the graphic tees (she swears she owns more than anyone you've ever met), the remnants of past identities, the "I'll wear this someday" pieces that quietly take up space. In their place? A shift toward feeling like a grown woman, someone who gets dressed with purpose, shops with discernment, and spends her time bidding on vintage finds instead of quick gimmicks. It's less about reinvention and more about alignment. We spoke with Fox about what she was holding on to, what she's now letting go of, and her new era.

You've gone through so many style eras. What era are you clearing out right now?

Right now, I'm really cleaning out every single past era possible. I think I've been walking around with a lot of baggage—clashing identities and things that ultimately don't align with who I am anymore.

I'm convinced that I have more graphic T-shirts than anyone you've ever met, but I don't see myself wearing a graphic T-shirt right now in this era.

I'm trying to actually get dressed again, wear real clothes that aren't just sweatpants. It was hard because my closet was so cluttered that the hangers didn't even move, so I would just end up rewearing whatever was easiest—the stuff on the chair, the top of the pile. It got to the point where I just needed to release and let go.

What does your current era look like? What are you buying and keeping?

I'm looking for things that are really well-made. I like things that feel exclusive. I love vintage. When I shop, it's usually on sites like eBay. I love bidding. I love offering a price. The New Yorker in me loves to haggle.

Something really shifted after my 36th birthday. I'm not even joking. It felt almost overnight. I finally felt like a grown-up. I used to joke that I felt like an overgrown teenager, like I was just playing dress-up in my mom's shoes. But now, I feel like a woman. I feel like an adult, and it's beautiful. It's not something to be afraid of. It's actually the best thing that's happened to me.

What's the hardest part of cleaning out your closet?

The pieces with sentimental value, the things I've had for 15 years, the relics that have been part of my identity through all these different versions of myself—those are the hardest to let go of. They've been with me. They're like my ride-or-dies.

What's your advice for someone who wants to start decluttering but feels overwhelmed?

Just start.

Once you start, it becomes addictive—the feeling of releasing and letting go. I don't think we realize how bogged down we are by our stuff. You get something beautiful, but then it comes with all these strings. You have to protect it, store it, take care of it. It becomes a responsibility. Letting go of things and all the strings attached to them feels really, really good.

It sounds almost therapeutic. Was it like that for you?

Yeah, it's definitely therapy. At first, it felt like a chore, but by the end, I was getting really trigger-happy—just throwing everything out. Then the next day, I'd go back and be like, "Okay, maybe I'll keep this one thing." But overall, it becomes a flow state.

That's why I say just start. Do one rack, one category (like bikinis), and then you'll naturally want to keep going. It builds momentum.

What pieces at your stoop sale are you most excited for people to discover?

Honestly, everything. The team did such a good job finding all the gems. There's been something for everyone. There are also some iconic pieces, like the boots I wore in Uncut Gems, a denim top I cut myself, and pieces from my vintage archive that I've had for years. There's vintage Alaïa, Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, some newer designers too. There's a mix of everything, old and new.

While in Paris a few summers ago, I found a beautiful set of men's paisley-print silk-flannel pajamas at a vintage store in the 10th arrondissement. It was unexpected given the outside temperature and the more seasonally appropriate piece I bought with it, a fitted Dolce & Gabbana silk minidress. Life is full of contradictions! Surely, our closets are the greatest examples of this, especially when items that are normally reserved for sleeping make their way to the streets.

Case in point: the classic pajama set, a time-honored gift for men during the holiday season that's snuck its way into the depths of my brain and created a myriad of everyday outfit ideas. Apparently, I'm not alone. On eBay, searches for silk pajama sets are up 34%, according to the company's just-released trend report, eBay Watchlist, which is based on global eBay search, sale, and listing data collected between August 2024 and August 2025.

When I think of men's pajamas, I always conjure up images of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday when she dons Gregory Peck's striped pj's. She emanates girlishness while daring you to think the menswear staple would make a great top. It's very Prada F/W 25 when worn with a more feminine flair, like a pencil skirt or miniskirt and ladylike shoes. I think that the idea of rolling out of bed and onto the sidewalk with little heels and a bag is the ultimate sophistication.

I'm reminded, too, of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City on New Year's Eve when she ventures out into the perilous snowy subway in her lightly patterned pajama pants, which were worn with heels, a voluminous fur coat, and a little sequin cap. How chic! It's also very Chloe King—she could pull off that whole look and inspire a slew of iterations.

Bringing it back to the pajama set, these are best suited to stripes and patterns and being worn separately in these non-bed situations. For men too, I'd be keen to see silk pajama bottoms or even designer printed silk pants (eBay searches for Gucci silk pants are up 59%, by the way) worn with a cashmere sweater, chunky socks, and loafers out to coffee. The look is casual but has more intrigue than sweatpants, like if Gene Kelly played The Dude instead of Jeff Bridges.

1. Size Up
Buy a larger size than normal. This allows you to play with proportions and shift perception away from the origins.

2. No Piped Cuffs
Look for sets where the pants specifically don't have piped cuffs. They err more on the pajama side of life.

3. Avoid Prints
Stay away from kitschy prints and stick to solids, stripes, and paisleys in rich colorways.

I think the key to trying this out on your own is balance—even Sofia Coppola at the Met Gala understood that, as a stand-alone look, they can't be your average cotton pj's. There's gotta be pizzazz. It's about mixing pajamas with traditional ready-to-wear pieces to create interest. Think classic tailoring, luxurious knits, and unexpected footwear, like metallic sneakers, kitten heels, and penny loafers.

Winnie Harlow grew up around cars, though she didn't get her actual driver's license until last year. "My mom is such a horrible driver, so I was terrified to drive," Harlow tells me on a Zoom call ahead of the Miami Grand Prix. Her father's career as a mechanic resulted in a lifelong love for going fast. If Instagram and eBay had a hip younger sister, it would be Depop. It works just like any other selling site or app, but seeing as it's used mainly by under-30s, the imagery of the items you want to sell need more treatment, much like you'd give those on your Instagram feed, as the demographic expect as such. Users can like and share your pieces, too.

Pro tip: You can often command a higher price on Depop than the likes of Gumtree, so aim high, and stipulate if you're open to offers.

Perhaps rather predictably, we suggest that the best items to sell on Amazon are books. We've all been there: Christmas comes and you end up being blessed with three copies of the same book (Gone Girl, we're looking at you). Quite often, you've probably already read the book and the gifter doesn't have the receipt. So turn to the biggest bookseller on the planet to help.

5. Facebook Marketplace

A more unconventional method of selling unwanted goods is using Facebook's new selling tool. If you scroll down on your left-hand side on your FB tabs, you'll find the "Buy and Sell" tab; click on this and find your area group to sell unwanted goods, from clothes to furniture, as well as iPhones and even cars.

Pro tip: Make sure the person who gave you the item isn't on Facebook.

6. Gumtree

From experience, the classifieds site Gumtree is a great place to sell unwanted items of furniture. The system is easy to use, and often prospective buyers will contact you fairly quickly thanks to its popularity.

Pro tip: Make sure you have your region stated clearly, and consider how you're going to get your furniture to the buyer. Best idea for that? Get them to collect.

7. Freecyle 

If you don't know about Freecyle, we suggest you get on this stat. It's a place to get rid of everything you don't want. However, note that this is a more altruistic affair, as you won't get any payment for the items you're getting rid of (the clue is in the name).

Pro tip: Only get rid of stuff that actually works. It's only fair.

According to the self-made millionaire, the key is to pay attention to the details when presenting your items online. “Take clear, detailed photos on a white background. Clothes sell when the buyer can picture themselves wearing the item, and seeing it look beautiful on someone else will make them want to buy it. Include as many details as possible, and include designer names. If it says 6 but fits like a 4, say so. Give details and be as descriptive as possible, and you’ll be making money in no time!” says Lightman.

So instead of binning your unwanted gifts, why not make a buck or two on eBay? Pick your keywords carefully

The first hurdle is naming your listing. Describing a dress as “a velvet dreamboat” or “a shift that sparkles like the light of a thousand disco balls” might sound whimsical from the privacy of your bedroom, but it’s not going to get anyone’s attention on eBay. Only the listing’s title gets picked up when buyers search, so keep it purely factual, and make sure it includes all of the relevant information. Something like “size 12 gold Karen Millen midi dress” is going to tick the right boxes. A descriptive word can sometimes be helpful. According to eBay, adjectives like “old,” “vintage” and “sexy” can drive traffic to your listings when used appropriately.

Put effort into your pictures

This might seem like an obvious point, but it’s amazing how many people upload truly rubbish photographs—or no photographs at all. eBay lets you put up 12 images free of charge and will split it up into different angles (e.g., top, bottom, left side, right side, defects, detail), so take full advantage. Choose a spot that has a neutral background and is well lit. If it’s clothing or accessories, consider taking a few on the hanger and including a few of it on—it’s difficult to demonstrate the scale of, say, earrings or how tight a knitted dress will be—so that browsers can get a good idea of how it’s going to fit. 

Be honest about defects

Honesty is the best policy on eBay. As I mentioned, you can upload a photo to show any defects, as well as expanding on what exactly the problem is in the description. Think about how infuriating it is when you get home from a shopping trip and the blouse you just dropped 200 quid on has a massive rip. It’s exactly the same on eBay only much worse—there’s a good chance you might get publicly shamed in the reviews section. Before uploading anything with a flaw, in fact, think about whether it’s worth getting it mended or simply recycling it instead. It might save you a lot of time and effort (as well as face).

Be on top of messages

If you’re the kind of person who takes a week to reply to a WhatsApp message, eBay might not be your bag. You really need to keep on top of messages that potential buyers send, as no matter how much information you stuff in the description box, there’s always something seemingly insignificant to you but very important to them that you’ve missed out. Keeping a close eye on your emails as soon as something is listed will mean that no sales slip through the net.

Think about the 2 P’s

Postage and packaging costs can cut into a juicy profit margin, so make sure you think about an item’s weight carefully. If it’s something heavy and bulky, weigh it if you can, and then check eBay’s price suggestions so you can charge postage accordingly. Listing an item under free P&P can be enticing to customers, but make sure it’s worth your while. If you’re only getting £.50 for a DVD and it costs £3 to send it first class, you’re going to be out of pocket. Bear in mind that for pieces of furniture or other unwieldy items that are hard and expensive to package (e.g., cellos and surf boards), you can always tick the “collection in person” box.

Check for “best items”

If something on your present reject pile happens to fit into the top 10 best items to sell on eBay list, you’ll be laughing well into the New Year. Branded tech is the biggest seller, with anything from Apple, Samsung or Sony going like hotcakes. Watches—especially Casio, Seiko and Swatch—are also solid sellers, as well as Lego and, bizarrely, chests of drawers, which are the most searched-for piece of furniture on eBay. Bikes from Apollo, Raleigh and Shimano are reliable sellers, and Clarks and New Look are the top shoe searches.

Do your price research

The best way to price something correctly is to select the category that fits your item’s description when you start the selling process. This brings up a page of similar items to yours, and you can then select the “sell one like this” option. Choose the condition (e.g., new, seller refurbished, used), and then eBay will recommend a starting price and how likely your item’s chance is of selling. In terms of “buy it now” or auction, I always used the former and make sure to add in a “best offer” option so buyers can send you lower offers that can be accepted or declined. Auctions can sometimes far exceed your price expectations if you have people topping each other’s bids at the final hour, but make sure to adjust your price if you’re not gaining much interest after a few days.
