Style Notes: Why choose one great piece when you can wear them all at once? According to creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, more is more at Loewe for pre-fall, and layers on layers are the coolest way to do colour-blocking now. A case in point: the Savoy shoe, a razor-sharp pointed shoe that comes in the form of a pump, flat and boot. Just when the rest of fashion was moving towards practicality and comfort over style (see the garden clog), Demna is putting fierce heels back on the agenda.

Style Notes: Whilst we anxiously await the release of the peplum belt/miniskirt that appeared in no less than 10 of the 35 pre-fall looks, the other Chloé accessory that gets a thumbs-up is the iconic Paddington. We were excited to welcome the noughties classic back with open arms at the end of last year, and it's clear that Chloé is riding the Paddington's nostalgic wave into next season, too, now offering wicker, mini and chain-bag iterations.

Last week, my Instagram and TikTok feeds were inundated with photos and videos from Gucci's cruise 2027 show held in the middle of Times Square in New York City. The content opportunities were plentiful: Tom Brady walked the runway, Paris Hilton went brunette, Mariah Carey sat front row, and Gucci imagery co-opted every billboard in the area. It was certainly a spectacle to remember, but as it turns out, the Italian house's sojourn in NYC wasn't limited to one night only.

In conjunction with the show, Gucci has released a limited-edition collection of bags, shoes, and other accessories inspired by New York City. The first Monday in May always marks the Met Gala—one of the biggest events in the fashion industry. Aside from the runways, it's a key places editors keep an eye out for inspiration and trends, from the red carpet to the after-parties.

Hunter Schafer wore one of our team's favorite red carpet looks of the night, which was a custom Prada gown inspired by Gustav Klimt's "Mäda Primavesi." Then, for the Saint Laurent after-party at People's Bar in New York City, she changed into a custom dress by emerging British designer Steve O Smith and carried one particular accessory: Prada's Wish Pouch.

That made me think back to the Italian luxury house's S/S 26 runway show, where the bag appeared multiple times throughout the collection, taking an essentials-only approach to dressing: phone, keys, wallet. The silhouette comes in three materials—silk, Re-Nylon, and leather—and in a range of shades including black, gray, orange, blue, brown, and a now-sold-out pink.

Pouches also appeared at Loewe's, Miu Miu's, and Valentino's spring/summer 2026 shows and even at Celine's F/W 26 presentation—a nostalgic eveningwear aesthetic reminiscent of the dainty styles dating back to the late 18th century.

Prada is one designer brand that doesn't miss when it comes to chic new bags. Take its Route handbag, for example. This silhouette just dropped, and it's already on the arms of fashion people in Paris and NYC. The Buckle Bucket Bag is another that elegant dressers like Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Elsa Hosk also added to their collections. But we can't forget about the semi-new style that has quietly but quickly gained a cult following: the Bonnie.

This east-west silhouette, with slim buckle details and two long handles, debuted in the brand's spring 2024 collection and has since become an It-girl favorite, loved for its blend of function and style. It was first spotted on Bella Hadid, who wore the extra-large style, and on Sarah Pidgeon, who wore the medium size, both in Milan. Loewe Amazona 180

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's debut spring/summer 2026 collection for Loewe was rife with standout moments, but one handbag caught my eye: the Amazona 180. "First introduced in 1975," Loewe explained, "the Amazona emerged at a moment of societal and cultural shift in Spain. Its name signals both a new beginning and a continuity: marking Loewe's 180-year anniversary in 2026."

Dior Cigale

"Inspired by La Cigale—an iconic dress conceived by Christian Dior for fall/winter 1952—with its fitted bodice, full moiré skirt, and pronounced pleats, this new bag transposes its sculptural silhouette," Dior explained in a press release. "Crafted from supple, luminous calfskin, the Dior Cigale comes in two sizes—small and medium—and in a delicate palette, from rose soupir to icy blue, trench beige, and moiré gray, in homage to the iconic shades of the house." It was released in mid-March and is available exclusively in boutiques.

Gucci Borsetto

Just this week, the Gucci Borsetto was photographed on Demi Moore at the Cannes Film Festival. Other recent A-list sightings include Anne Hathaway, Dua Lipa, Kate Moss, Tyla, and Vittoria Ceretti. If that doesn't prove that this is one of the season's buzziest It bags, I don't know what will.

Versace Pivot

The new Versace Pivot is "a tactile, sculptural interpretation of the bucket bag defined by its distinctive hardware, capturing the strength and sensuality at the heart of Versace," the brand explained in a press release. "Bearing the signature Medusa, newly rendered. A distinctive emblem set within a leather oval macaron. An inviting rendering of an icon with an alluring depth to her gaze, capturing the details of the Medusa decorating the door of Via Gesù 12, the original Milan home and atelier of Versace."

Since taking the helm at Dior, Jonathan Anderson has masterfully reintroduced the maison's medallion motif from 1947. My favorite new version of this house code? The Médaillon Flap Bag, which is offered in small and medium sizes. The dusty-pink version, in particular, is calling my name.

I do a lot of fashion treasure hunting as Who What Wear UK's fashion editor, but there's something about the new designer offerings for spring/summer 2026 that has me particularly excited for the season ahead. I'm convinced that spring is the perfect time to invest in your wardrobe, as taking stock and clearing things out feels like second nature at the beginning of the year, but I'm just as interested in the newness coming in (blame my dedication to my craft).

After what felt like a particularly long winter and an even slower start to spring, we're finally able to enjoy the joyful, warm-weather looks we saw on the runways, but until high summer really kicks in, I've been giving careful thought as to what to wear in the in-between. Florals, sheer skirts, blouses and sandals might be spiking in searches right now, but the reality is still a slightly chillier (read: temperamental) forecast. Still, convinced that I can dress with all the optimism of summer but with a little more spring sensibility, I started looking for investment pieces that could do both, and, naturally, my search led to luxury brands.

The high street serves its purpose when it comes to affordable pieces that are quick to pick up on buzzy microtrends, but if you're looking for a piece that you can buy now but wear for years to come, I always consider designer purchases a great place to start. Spending a little more guarantees premium materials, quality craftspersonship and design and detail that is often unmatched by cheaper pieces. Longevity and wearability are crucial when shopping at any time of year, but particularly in the spring/summer transition when the change in weather can be drastic overnight.

So, determined to find a luxury purchase to meet my needs (and yours), I tried on as many designer pieces as I could in one morning to bring you a concise edit of those that really impressed me. From the Toteme co-ord that will be huge again this summer, to the classic Loewe bag that has a new look for 2026, these are luxury buys that I think are worth your time (and hard-earned money for the months ahead. 1. JW Anderson Rugby Top and Kilt

Style Notes: Whether it's down to the return of collegiate prep or simply the Hailey Bieber effect, suddenly, rugby shirts are feeling like ultra-cool territory. Having bought one already from Zara last year, what was once a crisp, bright shirt quickly turned into a wrinkly, faded tee in the wash, so imagine my joy to spot this fine JW Anderson knit on the rail in Selfridges.

It was the colours that first caught my eye, but the soft finish really piqued my interest, and cotton-wool blends like this really come into their own in cool spring weather that requires defence against the cold, but not too much, in case the sun comes out. For me, it was perfect on its own, but in autumn you could layer over a T-shirt, and in winter it's fine enough to fit comfortably underneath your wool coat, so how's that for year-round wear? I branched out and tried it on with the wool kilt from the brand, too; another piece I'm convinced is perfect for spring, in having just enough breathability without being flimsy. A strong start from JW.

2. Toteme Monogram Cotton Shirt and Wide-Leg Trousers

Style Notes: Regular readers of Who What Wear UK will know just how popular the Toteme Monogram co-ord has been over the past couple of years, so much so that I was desperate to try it for myself. You may be more familiar with the silk version of the PJ-style top and trousers, but Toteme is banking on the cotton iteration being this year's best-seller, as it has just landed in white and powder blue.

A word of warning: yes, the cotton is fine and so a little sheer (not sheer enough to show all of my underwear, but enough to let light through), so think carefully about what you wear underneath. However, it feels like lighter, softer linen; something that would be ideal during a heatwave. Warm weather is all about comfort, and this delivers in spades; in fact, it feels like wearing nothing at all. To keep the look from feeling too pyjama-ish, I'd wear it with leather sandals, a big tote and a jumper tied around the waist. (You never know when you might need it).

3. Victoria Beckham Satin Twist Dress

Style Notes: It might not be one for everyday, but this is a summer-occasion dress if ever I saw one. Weddings! Parties! Maybe even a particularly lavish date night! This dress proves why VB is a master of dress design in particular. Ruched and draped in exactly the right places, it's all about defining the feminine form, and I couldn't have been more comfortable. I said goodbye to clingy bodycon dresses a long time ago, and sometimes baggy styles don't feel special enough, so this is the pleasing middle ground, and there's also something about this colour that I'm sure would invite compliments. There's no need to over-style a dress like this as it already does all the talking, so just add a strappy heel and a simple bag for a summer of socialising.

4. SIR Fringe Bodysuit

Style Notes: I don't own any pieces from SIR, so this was an impressive introduction to the brand. With all of the pleasing thickness of a premium piece (something you just don't find on the high street), this immediately stopped me from shuffling through the rails; it was just too chic to ignore. Minimalists will appreciate its proximity to a simple tank top, and maximalists will love the exciting fringing. This is one of those pieces that commands attention, and it's surprisingly versatile: wear it under a blazer as part of a suit, dress it up with a printed skirt and heels or keep it casual with baggy jeans and flats. This could really serve as the (not so) basic layer in all of your summer outfits, and the thicker fabric has just the right amount of smoothing sculpt for wear-all-day comfort.

Style Notes: It's becoming a regular occurrence that I fall in love with something I've seen from The Frankie Shop, and this dress is no exception. "In the wider collection, we will always use colour [to inspire] happiness and joy, [like] bright pinks, azure blues that remind me of the ocean by my home in Greece. Colour lends warmth and vibrancy, injecting energy into a collection, drawing people in. A great white and cream form a foundation to our collections as well, especially for summer. "Cocoa feels cool, calm and collected but still warm enough for summer."

Ready for a touch of newness, I’ve studied the shopping habits of the chicest dressers around, deciphering the smartest investment buys of the season that aren’t just timely additions, but have longevity ingrained in every stitch. Now, I’ve rounded up the most popular spring buys in one concise place.

A new mood has settled over the luxury space for spring 2026. For the past few years, quiet luxury has seen an evermore striking refinement of classic pieces. Wardrobe staples were drawn back to their most foundational forms, shining a light on silhouette, composition and craftspersonship when shade and embellishment are turned down. This return to the bare bones reminded us of what luxury is truly about, not bold branding or displays of wealth, but the design expertise and extensive heritage that make them so worthwhile.

Now that the foundations have been restored, it's time to build upon them. Classic pieces are being revitalised through shade and texture, as well as the playful embellishments of spring, such as lace and fringing. Heritage is playing a key role this season as designers search through the archives to celebrate iconic pieces, those that have proven over the years or even decades to withstand the moving trends.

Alongside, the seasonal switch-up has brought back a series of wardrobe heroes that have been in storage over the cooler months. With the return of pretty blouses to the fore, Zimmermann and Dôen display their expertise in delicate embroidery and joyful bohemian patterns. Capsule heroes continue to be wise investments this season, and the most stylish people are looking to brands that specialise in these areas, like Agolde's denim and Faithfull's linen. New seasons bring new trends, and spring/summer 2026 has given already a plethora of emerging aesthetics, viral TikTok movements and one or two unlikely, even divisive, trending colours. But for the minimalists out there, S/S26 has so far been more about textures and luxe details. Fringe and tassel scarves, pillbox hats, brooches and funnel neck jackets, to name a few.

Whilst we may be bidding adieu to quiet luxury as a movement, a lot of the core principles of it still remain. Timeless, expensive-looking staples are the key to an elevated capsule wardrobe, and certain celebrities and influencers—Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jennifer Lawrence and Elsa Hosk—continue to be the arbiters of taste when it comes to this style of pared-back dressing.

But what about our accessories, and more specifically, handbags? Whilst handbag trends may move a little slower, even if you are one for clean, classic and simple design codes, there are a few silhouettes, details and colours that I've noticed gaining momentum lately.

I can't discuss spring/summer 2026 handbag trends without making mention to Chanel. Creative director Matthieu Blazy's first (sell-out) collection for the house has caused nothing short of shopping hysteria, with fashion editors, stylists, buyers, influencers and VIC (Very Important Clients) trying to get their hands on the collection's handbags and shoes. Amongst the new styles is the 26S Croc Illusion tote bag, which is adorned with an embossed mock-croc print. A minimalists dream, with its clean rectangular silhouette, long shoulder straps and black leather exterior, I think the virality of this bag this will spur a surge in popularity for crocodile skin-style leather, especially on larger styles.

Adding to this, since Prada showcased pouch bags in its spring/summer 2026 show, I've noticed many fashion people styling silky drawstring sacs casually hanging from their wrists. Whilst Prada's versions featured quite bold, saturated hues (think golden mustard and pink), I know minimalists amongst us will prefer more neutral tones of cream, brown or black.

1. Pouch Bags

Style Notes: With their longer straps, pouch bags are actually much more practical and easier to carry than an envelope clutch or minaudière. Whilst I've noticed a few beaded, sequinned and even floral styles, minimalists should look to more subtle details like a singular bottom tassel or fringed edging. Mark my words, if you attend a wedding or special occasion this summer, the best dressed guests will be carrying a pouch bag. The question is, will that best dressed guest be you?

2. Croc Leather

Styles Notes: Mock-croc leather is such a simple way to add a different texture when you wear a lot of the same shades. You may be thinking that black or deep brown aren't very summer-friendly, but as someone who wears these hues all year round, I beg to differ! There's something very Carolyn Bessette Kennedy-coded about a black summer bag, especially one that's oversized and has long shoulder straps (a detail that feels fundamentally quite '90s). Naturally, these bags are incredibly practical—able to fit a laptop inside for work, or all the necessities ahead of a flight, thus making them a smart investment that will be used much further into the future than this season.

3. Bowling Bags

Style Notes: It's no secret that fashion is obsessed with the past, current trends are often inspired by by-gone eras and decades. This latest handbag trend hails from the early 2000s, but isn't as garish or embellished as other relics from Y2K. It's the bowling bag, a classic style with a larger rectangular shape and a curved top. And whilst the original versions in the noughties like the Chanel Cambon might have had sizeable logos or quilting, today they tend to be a little more sleek, clean and contemporary, thus appealing to many minimalists. I've noticed a few styles in either a rich suede or with a mock croc exterior from Demellier, Massimo Dutti and Toteme, if your budget allows. If you like a logo however, I recommend Miu Miu's Beau tote—a beautifully square style with rounded edges that has become an It item for Gen Z and beyond.

4. Bucket Bags

Styles Notes: Bucket bags might not be new, but boy are they big for spring 2026. A minimalist staple, designer versions from Khaite, Toteme have been trending for some time, but new styles from Versace, Mulberry and Prada have made them bigger than ever. Whilst leather and canvas offer something chic and polished, perhaps good for office work days, raffia is great as a vacation-ready option.

5. Cylinder Shape

Style Notes: It might not necessarily be the easiest to carry, but wow is a cylinder shape bag chic. I think a cooler alternative to the classic east to west silhouette, a style that's been trending the last few years, I've seen leather, shearling and even mesh iterations of this spherical style.

In the age of maximalism, the overarching feeling was displayed in bold logos and monogrammed patterns, whilst the boho eras were distilled in slouchy silhouettes and intricate leather work. As someone who has worked in this industry for quite some time (over a decade, to be exact), I've developed somewhat of a knack for predicting the next It bag. Whilst most season's have them, this season (spring/summer 2026), has many. I'd put it down to what we're referring to as 'the big reshuffle', in which over 16 new creative directors debuted at major luxury houses (there several more at smaller scale designer brands, too). The premiere collections for new creative leads at Chanel, Dior, Valentino Garavani and many, many more have included not just new ready-to-wear but a slew of pretty wonderful new handbags. And, as we all know, there is nothing that cements an It bag, than it being worn by an It person. From Alexa Chung to Alex Consani, 2026's best dressed celebrities have been spotted wearing the latest designer hobo bags, clutches and frankly ludicrously capacious 'sacs' on the market.

It would be remiss to speak of It bags of the season and not make special mention to Chanel. In my time of working in fashion, I've never known the industry itself go so crazy over a collection as it has for Chanel S/S26. Naturally, we know when there's a craze for a specific shoe, a viral jacket or a sell-out designer accessory from our readers, but with press themselves, not often does an item, trend or collection captivate a frenzy like I witnessed at the Chanel Rue Cambon store in Paris during Paris Fashion Week. WhatsApp groups went wild, editors were attempting to become VIC's overnight, transatlantic flights were booked... All to snap up an item of Matthieu Blazy's debut collection when it dropped in stores. But the interesting thing is that it wasn't just one bag that people were after, but several. Even our very own editor in chief, Jane McFarland, was just this week road testing and reviewing the brand new Maxi Flap Bag. As she says herself "the question on everyone’s lips during Paris Fashion Week wasn’t about trends or celeb-spotting, but rather, "Which Chanel bag did you buy?""

From Kate Moss' Gucci Borsetto to the Valentino Garavani Panthea that I've spotted on Jennifer Lawrence, Lily Allen and Camille Charriere (to name just a few), many designer brands have a new bag in the spotlight. As such, it's been hard to keep up with the amount of new styles available, all of which are competing to be the most wanted accessory by celebrities, stylists, editors and influencers alike. But in my humble opinion, they're all so different, there's no competition to be had. It's less of a case of which is the best, more which is the best for you. Where some are soft and slouchy (like the Prada Dada), others are structured and stiff (the Chanel Small Flap Bag). They also come in various sizes (and are therefore fit for different occasions), and adhere to different styles and aesthetics. But which one is captivating your eye, if your budget allowed? 1. Chanel Small Flap Bag

Hailey, Dua, Kendall... Need I list more style icons to persuade you of the status of this small yet mighty accessory? Whilst there were many new Chanel bags for 2026 I could have selected, this one is the one I've spotted the most on celebrities. There's something about this perfectly petite silhouette, its structured box-like shape is so classic, yet the longer shoulder straps give it a modern (and practical) appeal. It comes in a few colours: black and navy—sure, timeless and chic—but my favourite has to be the mint pistachio green. Because pastels? For spring? Groundbreaking!

2. Gucci Borsetto Bag

If you're looking for a larger style, the new Gucci Borsetto might persuade you. A perfectly formed rectangular shape that's supple and soft and has a shoulder strap, it's the perfect work bag. If like me you too are a huge Demna Gvasalia fan, a bag from his first collection for Gucci is almost like a token of fashion history. If it's good enough for Kate Moss and Alex Consani, then it's definitely good enough for me.

3. Prada Dada Bag

Alexa Chung will always be the ultimate London It girl. One of the few things millennials and Gen Z tend to agree on is the enduring appeal of her style and sense of dress. So, naturally, when she starts posting outfit pics with a new designer bag, it tends to catch on. Over the years we've seen her pioneer the Mulberry (even having one named after herself), as well as the Chloe Paddington, but the Prada Dada is the latest It bag we've noticed on her arm. Soft, supple and oh-so sweet, she's the perfect spring day bag.

4. Valentino Garavani Panthea

Since Alessandro Michele's appointment as creative director at Valentino Garavani, we've been predicting, rather waiting for the brand's new era to soar. The house's signature Rockstud shoes are already making a comeback with a new look, but it's the bags I have my eye on. Alexa Chung was already seen this year wearing the Nellcote, a suede fringe bag with studded detailing that feels very boho-appropriate. But the bag I've spotted most is the Panthea—from Elsa Hosk to Lily Allen, Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner, this bag is on its way to It bag status.

5. Dior Bow Bag

When Jonathan Anderson presented his spring Dior collection, at first we were all focused on the ready-to-wear. But after time has passed and we've chance to revel in the glory of the full collection, we can take note of the new bags he launched alongside. From a suede shopper as well as the his version of a 'Lady' silhouette with Le Cigale, there's a new style for every type of Dior clientele. But the one on my radar is the smaller Bow bag style. Pretty and petite, the clutch with a short chain strap, designed with a bow-like shape, and is set for icon-status. Expect every fashion person to be taking it as their plus one to weddings this summer.

6. Balenciaga Le 7

Arguably the best dressed man on the planet, if Jonathan Bailey is seen wearing a bag, you know I'll be taking note of which it is. Naturally, he's not just been seen carrying any bag, but the Balenciaga bag of the season, the Le 7. Sleek, sexy and streamlined, it's designed with a horizontal rectangular shape with a slight dip at the top. Perfect for minimalists that love the Toteme Tlock, I predict you'll see classic dressers investing in this bag and its various available sizes this year, and for years to come.
