Fashion collaborations may be controversial, but I'm a fan of them. I think it's incredibly thrilling when two brands—often with entirely different styles—join forces and blend their unique design codes. The resulting collections usually showcase a fascinating fusion of aesthetics, allowing consumers to experience the best of both worlds. So, when I opened my inbox last week to the subject line of "new collab," I was so excited that I raced to open the email. I quickly learned that two American brands, Cult Gaia and Gap, would be launching a holiday collection featuring a range of statement pieces that infuse Gap’s iconic classics and everyday wearability with Cult Gaia’s sculptural and artistic approach. Needless to say, I was determined to find a way to get a firsthand look and feel of the collection.

As part of my "work perks," I had the fortunate opportunity to preview the collection before it went live today. Out of the 35-piece collection, I handpicked eight items that perfectly align with my fashion taste and suit my New York City lifestyle. For example, I opted for a gorgeous coat in chocolate brown, fall's hottest hue, a mini slip dress with gold chain link detailing, and a classic white button-down shirt with an open-back design. I even pulled an elevated hooded sweatshirt emblazoned with Gap's signature logo to read “Gaia," reflecting a celebration of the two brands. Then, I meticulously styled each piece with items from my wardrobe to get a true feel of the collection. Ultimately, I created seven unique looks I couldn't wait to share.

I didn't want to keep you waiting, so I put my favorite piece first. The Chain Mini Slip Dress is everything I want in an LBD. It has a classic mini design that hugs the body comfortably and a square neckline that's forever timeless. However, the chain detail straps give it a modern appeal. My favorite part is that there is a built-in bra so that no additional bra may be needed.

Don't be alarmed if you see me in this frock all fall long. I'll be wearing it with everything from sheer tights and closed-toe heels to knee-high boots and an oversize coat. Pro tip: size down, as this and many other products I tried from the collection seem to run big.

I was utterly impressed when I laid my eyes on this coat. Man, I do love a wedding. I love the pomp and the circumstance, the happy tears, the gorgeous dresses, the melding of two families… I love it all! As an aging millennial and former bridesmaid, the past few years have been a flurry of RSVPs. This is to say my wedding experience is vast and, as someone who walked down the aisle last year, quite intimate.

Here's the thing about that aforementioned melding of the families: One day, you and your dearly beloved will look at your calendars and realize that you both have relatives getting married sometime during that time warp between Thanksgiving and Christmas on two different continents—yikes. Even though we're nuptial veterans, traveling this extensively so close to the holidays felt daunting.

In lieu of a rehearsal dinner, we celebrated the night before the wedding with a sangeet (a Punjabi tradition), a colorful evening of food, dancing, and fun. 

With the bride's blessing, I rewore my own sangeet lehenga, an Indo-Western butter-yellow silk two-piece. Pattern-wise, this set below is the closest to what I wore but comes with pants instead, which are probably easier to dance in than my voluminous skirt.

Peter and I were given the honor of being emcees at the wedding ceremony, so a bold fiery-red gown felt like the call. I sourced this vintage chiffon Halston dress after falling in love with its sari-like draping.

Zipping through several time zones on our return trip, including a night in Singapore and a Narita pit stop for Japanese Kit Kats (if you know, you know), we were finally home… only to empty our suitcases, snuggle our cat, and repack for the balmy beaches of Florida.

As one of the handfuls of California relatives, we were excited to reunite with my husband's largely East Coast–based family at his cousin's wedding. Sadly, the friendly skies had other plans for us. A severe Friday morning delay caused us to land midway through the rehearsal dinner. After weighing our options, jet lag won out, and we ate Serafina takeout in a stupor before crashing hard.

Needless to say, I didn't get to wear my 'fit, a patterned two-piece, but here I am taking it for a spin on my Jamaican honeymoon last year. Working in fashion was always in Jasmin Larian Hekmat's DNA. The Cult Gaia founder and creative director grew up in a creative household. Her mother was a fashion designer and is currently a sculptor, and her father is a toy maker. "She taught me how to start sewing on paper," Larian Hekmat says. "I grew up going into this closet and finding bags of treasures that I would start draping on myself when I got older and pinning and then sewing."

Larian Hekmat studied fashion design and international marketing at FIT, where she interned at Narciso Rodriguez and Jason Wu. Following her schooling, Larian Hekmat knew that she wanted to move back home to Los Angeles and start her own line, Cult Gaia. "I made a conscious decision to move home, not have to pay rent, and start my business," she told Who What Wear.

For the latest episode of the Who What Wear Podcast, Larian Hekmat shares how she launched Cult Gaia, her favorite pieces from the new collection, and what she's wearing for holiday celebrations this year.

Let's start somewhat at the beginning. You grew up immersed in fashion and design because of your parents. I read that you essentially got your start designing miniature clothing for Bratz Dolls. Can you share a bit about your childhood and how you started to develop your artistic point of view?

I have a very creative family. My mom was a fashion designer and is currently a sculptor. She went to FIDM in Los Angeles and I grew up with a linen closet filled with trims and fabrics from her time there.

She grew up making her own clothes and would make our clothes. She taught me how to start sewing on paper. I grew up going into this closet and finding bags of treasures that I would start draping on myself when I got older and pinning and then sewing.

My dad was a toy maker—currently is a toy maker—and one of the lines they had is the Bratz Dolls. One of the dolls, Yasmin, is named after me. I grew up working with these dolls and seeing a massive sample room of people making miniature clothing.

You studied fashion design and international marketing at FIT in Manhattan. You also interned at Narciso Rodriguez and Jason Wu, two industry greats. You ultimately decided to step out on your own rather than climbing the ranks and working for an established brand. Tell me about post-grad. That decision to go out on your own and your sort of initial vision for your career.

At the time I had started, I was interning for Jason Wu and my parents were like, "Come home." They basically said that they weren't gonna support me when I was in New York. I realized if I stay in New York and I continue to work, I will get stuck working instead of just pushing forward and starting. So I made a conscious decision to move home, not have to pay rent, and start my business.

I know you often design around dressing for certain events, whether it's weddings or vacations. Can you give some nuggets or backstory around some of your favorite pieces and how you imagine them being worn?

One of the first branches of the collection—or seeds—was this beautiful landscape print of Saint-Tropez. I did a little capsule called Cult Guy, which I use vintage silk fabrics and it was basically little cabana shorts and a matching silk top probably like six years ago—seven years ago. We've brought that back and it's now a unisex look. That's one of my favorite because you can share.

Then we put it in a beautiful beaded minidress and it's all hand-beaded.

I'm curious if there are any special Cult Gaia pieces you'd recommend for the holiday celebrations near and what are you planning on wearing?

I'm obsessed with our new Caldera clutch. I take it everywhere.

Much like Melrose Place in West Hollywood and SoHo in New York, the Design District in Miami is quickly establishing itself as a global shopping destination for the aesthetically driven, design-minded, and fashion-obsessive among us. On a recent trip to Florida's cultural capital, I decided to acquaint myself with the Design District and I spent an afternoon browsing its best stores both new and old. As someone with a keen appreciation for art and design, I was mesmerized by the store design and architecture of these spaces as much as the clothing and accessories themselves. From Bottega Veneta's dusty pink spiral staircase to the silver couch inside the Cult Gaia store, the stores I popped into were, simply put, an experience.

Ahead, I'm diving into the eight best stores I checked out in Miami's Design District and highlighting the key buys that wowed me from each of them. Bookmark these names for your next visit if you know what's good for you.

Leave it to Jasmin Larian to create an otherworldly space for Cult Gaia's first-ever retail store. As soon as I stepped inside, I was surrounded by racks of the brand's candy-hued resort wear and crystal-adorned accessories arranged on racks and tables that deserve to have their own showroom, too. At the center of the space was an open seating area complete with a silver foil couch and a bench made entirely from strings of silver beads. 

I couldn't resist pulling a few fun options to try on while I was there. Namely, this halter minidress that just screamed "I'm in Miami." It's the kind of perfect vacation dress that does all the styling work for you—the built-in hardware is like its own jewelry and the print says "I put in a lot of effort" even if you didn't.

One thing about me is that I can never resist a good matching set. Luckily, there are plenty to choose from at this Cult Gaia outpost, from the brightly colored miniskirt sets to the breezy linens like this white crop-top–and–cargo-pants duo that I was instantly drawn to. While you can't see it here, the top is completely backless with a cool gold chain strap.

While so many brands are just now hopping on the Design District bandwagon, Tory Burch was in the earliest wave of brands who flocked to Miami. Its sprawling two-floor setup feels so soothing with its travertine tables and Mediterranean olive trees that house a tightly edited array of its bags, shoes, ready-to-wear, jewelry, and even a display of the brand's home collection. There are a few elements that give the store a distinctly local feel and one of them is a gallery wall of photographs that Burch commissioned from Miami-based artist Clara Toro during Art Basel in December.

I was also curious to know how the brand's much-talked-about new visual direction was translating to its retail stores, and when I visited, they had just finished redoing the entire exterior to reflect a more muted and organic energy.

The first thing I did was beeline to the bags. Well, one bag, in particular, the new Ella Mini. the shopping tote that's been a best-seller since 2008 just came out in a few spring-ready colors like this mint green color and a pretty petunia hue. If you look closely, you'll see that the style I'm holding is a softer and puffier version of the original because it's made from an innovative plant-based vegan leather.

It would be sacrilege to enter a Tory Burch dressing room without trying on one of the signature fit-and-flare dresses, so I didn't dare skip this half-velvet, half-cotton midi number, and I'm so glad I didn't because the fit and shape are exceptional.

Hardware is something Burch has always done especially well and this simple cardigan might just be the best example with its large logo-sculpted buttons that are a work of art in their own right.

Speaking of works of art, let's hear it for these color-blocked slides. As someone who's color-shy, the combination and placement here make wearing bright colors like fiery red and butter yellow seem so easy. I'd bet anything they'll earn droves of compliments, too.

For its first-ever brick-and-mortar outpost, the Parisian shoe label chose none other than Miami to plant its retail roots. It opened this past December during Art Basel and features these red velvet loungers that are both sexy and fantastical. The scooped-out shape makes you want to lie on your side and gossip with a friend, martini in hand.

Metallic shoes *are* the moment, as are Mary-Jane styles. The two of them combined might just make the perfect (and only) pair to ever slip your feet into in 2023. A bold claim, yes, but after doing just that myself, the comfort level really sealed the deal.

Of course, it wouldn't be Nodaleto without a mega platform, and this black velvet pair complete with crystal buckles really delivered on the brand's va-va-voom, and then some. Just add sheer tights and a minidress.

This might seem counterintuitive for someone who writes about Bottega Veneta quite often, but I try to avoid wandering into its stores for the sake of my bank account. On this occasion, I mustered up my strongest self-control and strolled in (purely for research purposes!). I have to say that before I even stepped foot inside I was already impressed—the very door handle to the store is blown-up interpretation of the gold hardware you'll find on some BV bags. I was in for a treat.

I hate to admit it, but the It item of the moment, the Drop Earrings, were even better when I tried them on in person. They're shockingly lightweight and curve down under the earlobe in the most satisfying way. I finally understand the hype around them and why they were and continue to be perpetually sold out.

The flannel-printed shirt and denim-printed leather pieces are the kinds of items you just have to see in person to fully appreciate because it's hard to grasp just how much the fabric looks like the print it imitates from photos alone. 

Miami-based brand Alexis was an absolute delight. I had never tried on anything from them before although I've been a fan of its pretty dresses on Saks, Revolve, and Nordstrom for a while now. While I'll dive into the cute clothes I saw and tried on in-store in a minute, let me just say that as someone who often tries on and reviews clothes for a living, the quality, fit, and attention to detail at Alexis is truly unmatched. These are forever clothes that are excellent investments.

Wedding guest dressing and events are what they do best, kind of like a Cult Gaia meets Zimmermann, with a sophisticated overtone that makes it feel less trendy but no less exciting. 

Oh, her? She's the moment. Seeing as the rosette trend is hitting its peak right now, this flower-adorned jumpsuit was speaking to me and the fit and material were top-notch, too. 

As I mentioned, I was seriously impressed with the material and construction of all the pieces I tried. Details like a snap closure instead of those little hooks that are impossible to close and a wide zipper really made a big difference in my mind. Also, how chic is this buckle-waist midi dress?

Playful hardware were peppered throughout the collection, including on this skirt set complete with silver grommets. 

With Reformation stores, you always know what you're getting (i.e. a dressing room with customizable lighting depending on your mood and a touch screen to swap out sizes and styles without having to awkwardly step out and ask). Its location in the Miami Design District wasn't massive but featured all its best-selling items of the moment, from the denim midi skirt to the high-neck tee everyone on TikTok adores. It also features a wall of Ref shoes, including plenty of its heeled sandals that are ideal for the South Florida climate.

Miami's 80-degree weather called for a breezy linen dress, and the Tagliatelle style (also my favorite type of pasta), did not disappoint. The fitted bodice and scalloped lace neckline were delightful details that make this a perfect summer LBD.

If you can get past the harsh lines of my sunburn, you'll notice how cool this halter neck top is. Zoom in to fully appreciate the Y2K buckle detail on the strap. This is what I mean when I say "going out top."

I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to try on the denim midi skirt that Who What Wear editors have been talking about nonstop. The white version felt especially fitting for Miami's eternal summer and paired so well with many of the printed tops I tried on.

Another Ref item I've heard my WWW colleagues raving about is this '60s-style satin dress that has major Prada energy. I can confirm that the material is so soft and nice and I love the idea of wearing it as a fun bridal look (ahem, any brides-to-be out there?).

Last, but certainly not least, was this lace-up top that immediately transported me to a town in Tuscany with its vintage-inspired print and sweetheart neckline. I ended up bringing this one to the register and now want to fly back just for the matching skirt.

ACNE Studios is the newest kid on the block, having just opened its doors this month across the street from Nodaleto and Swan and next door to the ICA museum. Its two-floor concept space teams the feeling of an art gallery with a boutique. Key looks from its spring/summer 2023 runway featured prominently alongside its OG Musubi bags.

Prada motifs like geometric triangles and tonal lilies were woven into the fabric of the store via sprawling carpets and textured walls. A selection of its custom runway looks from spring 2023 was on display despite some of them not being put into production, so it felt like visiting a Prada archive at the same time.

Every few years, a collaboration comes around that shakes things up, surpassing the hundreds of collabs that launch every week and subsequently showing up everywhere. In 2020, there was Gucci x North Face, followed by Fendi x Skims in 2021. And now, hardly three months into 2022, we have this year's top pairing: Cult Gaia x Bratz. 

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles–based fashion brand, founded by Jasmin Larian, posted a slew of announcement posts on Instagram, starting with one that showed a text message being typed out on a Motorola Razr (#throwback) that read, "See you tomorrow for something special." A few hours later, another post was shared, this time, a video clip showing the girls with a passion for fashion—that is, Yasmin, Jade, Cloe, and Sasha of the Bratz Doll franchise—driving in a car with the license plate "BRATZ4EVR." That was when I, being somewhat of a Bratz expert, knew what was coming.

You see, what many people don't know is that Larian and Bratz have a long history. The daughter of WGA Entertainment founder and CEO Isaac Larian, Jasmin Larian grew up alongside the cult-favorite dolls, which were launched by WGA in 2001. In fact, she even told L’Officiel in a 2017 interview that the world of Cult Gaia was "inspired by the aesthetic of the Bratz dolls.” So, naturally, a collab was in the cards at some point. It had to be. The only question was when.

As of Wednesday morning, my question had been answered—and with a 35-piece collection of Y2K-esque clothes, shoes, and accessories no less. Here's the catch: With Bratz fandom being at an all-time high right now (just search "Bratz" on TikTok for proof), there's no way that these items will remain in stock for long. Confession: I was not always an avid thrifter. For a long time, I, like many other shoppers, was intimidated and turned off by the process of thrifting. It’s hard to find the motivation to sift through your local consignment store when Zara makes it so easy to see the latest collection drop. But there came a point where I looked at my closet and realized it was filled with disposable pieces I didn’t love, so I decided to change the way I shopped. My solution was to start buying quality secondhand pieces over fast-fashion buys. The transition wasn’t easy, but I can honestly say it’s been for the best. Read on to discover the unexpected benefits of thrift shopping and how it’s made me happier…

 You change your relationship to style.

I’m just going to say something you’re not supposed to say here… I used to think thrifting was gross. (Yes, I know I was a snob and a half.) But to be fair, thrifting was part of my childhood, so I found pleasure in shopping for items that were brand-new. There’s a level of reckoning with privilege when you’re reassessing how you shop; being able to choose between buying new clothing and going thrifting is a privilege in and of itself. And unfortunately society places value on having the latest styles over seeking out sustainable pieces. But for me, thrifting flipped that narrative: It taught me to not only love the hunt but to ditch the guilt around not being able to afford the trendiest bag. As it turns out, great style doesn’t have to cost a pretty penny.

You score pieces you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

Don’t @ me for the following statement: I’m over the way everyone seems to dress the same. While I love that Instagram has democratized fashion, it’s also made it that much easier to find yourself wearing the same bag as everyone else—and I’m not about that life. If you, too, find yourself wanting to stand out in a sea of style influencers, thrifting is for you. In general, wherever you choose to shop, I cannot stress enough how important it is to buy pieces that are worth the investment and represent your personal style. Bonus: If you choose to thrift, you may score a secondhand I Am Gia leather duster that is not only practical and unique, but can also be worn for years to come. (True story.)

The compliments come rolling in…

If you live for getting those "I love your outfit” compliments, it’s time you take thrifting seriously. I’ve never gotten more compliments in my life than when I started thrifting (my secondhand Rebecca Minkoff dress is a compliment magnet). There’s something magical about wearing something you love—you just glow in a different way.

You Save Money.

I was definitely sleeping on the consignment life—but I’m awake now. The majority of my designer pieces have been found digging through the trenches of a consignment store. But how do you know you’re saving money? I suggest doing some research on your favorite brands. I always try to find the original price of a piece (unless it’s true vintage) before purchasing it.

In addition to looking for the original retail value, I compare prices on consignment sites like LePrix, The Real Real, Versatile Collective, and eBay to get an idea of how much I’m saving, because some pieces are actually worth buying new. I also try to find pieces priced at 50% (or less) off the original price; this ratio won’t always apply to collectible pieces or a newer designer piece, but it can be a great way to keep track of your savings.

You adopt a new lifestyle.

Honestly, there’s no feeling that really rivals scoring a designer piece at a third of the price. Some of my best secondhand finds include my body-con YSL dress and my Cult Gaia ark bag. I'll admit, however, that it takes some work: I frequently spend my weekends knee-deep in the racks at consignment shops looking for my next gem.

If you don’t have the time or the patience, let me introduce you to… the internet. Sarcasm aside, thrifting has been made easier thanks to the wonders of Wi-Fi. Not only can you find some of the best online consignment stores and online vintage shops, but by using specific search terms, you can also set up notifications for the pieces you’re looking for. (In other words, that Fendi Baguette you’ve been eyeing will soon be yours.)

You’re saving the environment.

Of all the reasons to abstain from fast fashion, this is the most important. The fast-fashion industry produces over 15.1 million tons of textile waste every year. Because rather than donating or recycling unsold sale items, fast-fashion brands often burn or toss them, and the debris can end up in the ocean where the plastic microfibers are being consumed by fish and subsequently humans. Terrifying, right? But you don’t need to feel powerless; in addition to voting for politicians and policies that help ensure ethical and environmental practices, you can personally adopt sustainable shopping practices. Because in truth, that affordable fast-fashion piece costs a lot more than you think.

 You find unexpected joy.

There are so many reasons I love thrifting, but maybe the simplest one is the joy it has brought into my life. And while that may seem trivial, your wardrobe should make you look and feel your best, and if you do happen to find the pieces you love most at Goodwill, well, even better.

I can think of few things that could do more for a brand—emerging or established—than the approval and endorsement of one Queen B, ruler of the Beyhive and arguably the most famous woman on the planet. And, as someone who is regularly making statements with her thoughtful and intentional fashion choices, she definitely knows what power she holds. That’s why we’re always pleased when Beyoncé decides to use her clout to support an on-the-rise brand that might not even need the exposure but definitely is deserving of it. Especially when you consider the fact that every major fashion house from Louis Vuitton to Saint Laurent to Ralph & Russo would drop anything to work with her, or collaborate with her, at a moment's notice. 

If her viral By Far bag recently caught your attention, you’re not alone, but I’m here to tell you it’s actually just one of many times Mrs. Carter has worn a piece (or entire outfit) from an emerging brand those of us in our fashion bubble love or, in some cases, haven’t even heard of yet. By Far

While the majority of the internet was busy making memes, fashion girls everywhere freaked out when Beyoncé was spotted carrying an Insta-famous By Far bag courtside at the NBA finals. It might sound like no big deal, but for a brand that only launched handbags a year or so ago, it’s major. For those of us who also can’t resist By Far accessories, it was a "celebs, they’re just like us” moment like no other. See a close-up in the second slide below.

Marine Serre

If you’re at all familiar with the young Parisian brand Marine Serre, then you know how easy it is to spot its trademark half-moon print. Cue the Slacks, DMs, and collective chatter among editors when, for another courtside look, Bey opted for a statement-making, head-to-toe bodysuit from the brand. If anyone didn’t know about the cult label before, after this look (and the many photos she understandably couldn’t help but post in the outfit), they must.

For an outing with Jay-Z this past February, Beyoncé stepped out in two emerging labels—one of which was still selling through Etsy at the time. The suit by Nigerian designer EnaGancio was just part of her regular efforts to support African designers and paired perfectly with her purple bag by Dubai-based label L’Afshar (which can be seen on slide three of the below Instagram post).

While anyone with an Instagram account is probably familiar with Cult Gaia’s longtime handbag hit, the Arc bag (which Beyoncé as also worn in the past), they may not all have known about the brands more recent foray into RTW. Of course, Bey did, as she was spotted in one of the brand’s cut-out dresses back in February. The best part? It’s still in stock for anyone who wants to get the look.

I’d like to think that even if you’re Suki Waterhouse, co-founder of accessories brand Pop & Suki who just so happens to be a famous English model and actress, a Beyoncé sighting in a handbag you designed has to be a pretty big deal. Especially when you consider that the line was only launched less than three years ago.

More recently, Bey was (literally) spotted in a summer-ready polka-dot top from fashion-girl favorite Attico, which she paired with shorts, an of-the-moment anklet, and matching yellow pumps. Despite only launching in 2016, the brand has cemented its status in the fashion world thanks to its (many) trend-setting It pieces. Beyoncé's endorsement only adds to the appeal.

I'm not afraid to admit I'm constantly rotating Sex and the City reruns for love and dating advice, lifelong friendship dynamics, and, of course, major Carrie style inspo. Regardless of the show’s inaccurate depictions of being a single writer living in New York (and buying endless designer shoes), I usually gain something from each episode. It’s one of those go-to Sunday binge-watch shows you never get sick of.

Thanks to the '90s and early 2000s trend resurgence, the Carrie Bradshaw look has made its way back into the fashion spotlight. I don't know about you, but the moment the weather starts to heat up, the only thing on my mind is summer vacation plans. It doesn’t help that my entire Instagram feed is currently flooded with chic getaways—and even chicer outfits.

From sunning in St. Barth’s to sipping spicy margaritas in Tulum, fashion girls are already in full vacation mode. And with more getaway looks than I can count in my saved collection right now, my feelings of wanderlust are stronger than ever. Today I’m here to share 20 of the best summer vacation outfits I’ve come across so far this year, plus the key pieces to shop from each look. If the below outfit ideas entice you to book a flight, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, so as cliché as it sounds, I have quintessentially laid-back L.A. style. I wear denim in some form pretty much every day, T-shirts and tanks are my go-tos, and I've been known to sport a vintage band tee on occasion (I told you it would sound cliché). What I'm getting at is that given my "chill" California style, there are some spring 2019 trends that just don't align with my aesthetic—hey, not every trend is for everybody. Whether they're too sporty, sleek, or street, a few just don't do it for me.

There are, however, quite a few spring trends I'm tripping over myself to jump on now that the weather is finally tolerable again (and by that I mean sunny and 70 degrees—I am from L.A., after all). From the barely there sandal trend I'm already wearing with jeans to the handbag trend I've been championing the return of for months, below are the six spring trends L.A. girls like myself are excited about right now. So if you typically find yourself gravitating toward more of a relaxed style, or simply want to see how the other half lives, I'm breaking each trend down for you below. 

'90S-STYLE TANK TOPS

We may not be reinventing the wheel here, but '90s-style racerback tank tops are back in a major way for spring, and I'm 100% on board with it (and so is Kendall Jenner, if that means anything to you). That's right, this once-boring basic is officially high-brow again, and I plan on wearing it with everything from baggy jeans to slip skirts.

FLOSS SANDALS

If there's one shoe trend that's taken the fashion world by storm the past few seasons, it's this strappy style. Coined "floss" sandals by one of our editors a few months back, this style is the 2019 version of the naked shoe. Worn with jeans, skirts, or dresses, this flattering shoe makes your legs look insanely long, and it doesn't get more L.A. than a chic sandal.

TIE-DYE

Love it or hate it, all things tie-dye are trending hard for spring. We're seeing this '70s-era print on everything from bags to shoes to jeans, and I'm all for it. My personal style is not bold enough to go for the rainbow look here, but I've been wearing this yellow Ganni T-shirt on heavy rotation recently, and it's making me feel even more ready for some sunshine. I think L.A. girls will be pairing this print with jeans and sneakers ASAP. 

SHOULDER BAGS

Just like we predicted, the crossbody bag trend is on the decline while shoulder bags are trending upward. Maybe I've seen too much Sex and the City (Carrie Bradshaw was all about the baguette bag), but I actually prefer a shoulder bag as it feels much more secure under my arm than flinging around next to my hips. This season everyone from luxury labels like Prada and Dior to rising brands like By Far and Wandler have iterations of the shoulder bag that I simply cannot wait to wear. 

ECRU DENIM 

What kind of L.A. style roundup would this be without denim? For spring 2019, I'm eyeing cream-colored denim specifically. Blame it on the 50 shades of beige trend, but I want to give my go-to blue jeans and jackets a break in favor of ecru pieces, which I plan on wearing with other pieces of the same color family, naturally. 

WHITE FOOTWEAR

Another footwear trend that's been going strong for a few seasons and doesn't show any signs of slowing down is white styles. From slouchy boots to mules, white footwear is the bold shoe choice that makes even the simplest of outfits feel directional—and for someone who lives in jeans and T-shirts, that's ideal.
