I’ve been in the industry long enough to develop a handful of hard-and-fast personal style rules. Every now and then, though, I’m pleasantly surprised when one of those self-imposed limitations is challenged. This morning, that’s exactly what happened.

Stepping out for a walk through Notting Hill, Margot Robbie resurrected a trainer trend I was convinced we’d seen the last of. Converse is at it again. Recently, the legacy shoe retailer launched its new archival-focused collection Converse 1908 in partnership with Tyler, the Creator's brand Golf le Fleur. The collection came to life at an L.A. pop-up on June 20, and now, the shoes are available to shop worldwide at Converse and Golf le Fleur*.

The debut designs of Converse's 1908 collection (the Naut-1 and the Jogger) were handpicked by Tyler himself for the launch. During a prelaunch media roundtable, he provided some insight into his selection of the two styles from the archive.

"I honestly hate the idea of nostalgia and … things [always] having such a deeper meaning. It was more like I went through the archives … and I was just like, 'Bro, these shoes are just cool. … I just wanna run [with] these and wear them and make [awesome] colorways.' And they had so many other silhouettes that [were] like that. It was like, 'Bro, what [are] we doing? We need to get these out in the world,'" he explains.

The 1908 collection strives to shine a light on Converse's role in shaping sneaker culture and inspiring style experimentation for many decades. "There's something powerful about 1908 because these designs have truly stood the test of time. The Naut-1 and Jogger weren't just products—they were turning points in how people expressed themselves through sneakers. Their reintroduction is a reminder that Converse has been shaping sneaker culture for over a century," states Sam Smallidge, Converse's archive manager.

When I think about trainers, my mind immediately drifts to the classic styles that I fell in love with first—the pairs that defined my teenage years.

White plimsolls, Vans and Converse were my go-tos—the ones that saw me through every moment that mattered. For the last 10 years, music lovers have congregated at Dodger Stadium every November for Tyler, the Creator's brainchild—Camp Flog Gnaw. I spent all day walking in these shoes, and comfort-wise, they were pretty solid. If you need extra support for a flat foot, maybe consider swapping in the appropriate insoles, but I had an Achilles injury a couple of years ago and was fine trotting around in the sneakers as they were. They run a little small, so I recommend sizing up for a perfect fit. I'm usually a women's 11, but I opted for a women's 11.5, and that size worked well for me.

Next, Anna Wintour only packed one shoe trend for all of fashion month. 

I was (fashionably) late to the jeans party. My first foray into pants was experimenting with my mom’s old stirrup leggings, but beyond that, dresses and skirts were strictly my jam. Anything with separate legs felt restrictive and as far as hemlines were concerned, the shorter the better. 

That all changed when I discovered vintage in high school. Turned on to the "joy of the hunt” by a friend, I became obsessed with the adrenaline rush of discovering one-of-a-kind pieces. My previous grievances against pants were quickly forgotten when I fell for a pair of perfectly worn-in Levi’s. This was holy grail denim: buttery soft, slightly androgynous, and in the most perfect sky blue wash. I was hooked, and my repertoire expanded quickly: frayed cutoffs in lieu of miniskirts, indigo bootcut jeans over slip dresses. My sweaters were set aside in favor of oversized, distressed denim jackets. I’d turned into a true blue-jean baby. 

Denim still factors heavily in my closet. I’m in jeans almost every day. Recently, I crossed over to the dark side. Black jeans create a totally different look, and I was keen to switch things up. Revamping my denim drawer made me feel like I was in high school again, chasing a high through different cuts and washes. If you’ve recently fallen into a denim rut, read on to revitalize your black denim spark.

The perfect travel day outfit. The high crew neck is cozy and less restrictive than a turtleneck while a wide-leg faded jean is instantly more interesting than leggings or skinny jeans. Sneakers and a cute claw clip will keep you zipping through TSA to pre-board. 

A foolproof everyday look. Layering a colorful cardi will brighten even the grayest day. Straight-leg rigid denim is a subtle homage to the '90s, and patent leather lug soled boots are functional while staying on-trend.

Chasing the next It sneaker style is an elusive sport. Dunks and Sambas are recent styles to have hit the zeitgeist, but not all trendy sneakers have come to dominate the fashion conversation. Some styles, while garnering buzz, still manage to fly under the radar, serving as an IYKYK indicator among a select group of stylish dressers. Over time, sneakers have become the de facto footwear choice, a valid option for styling with work and party ensembles and not just your comfy weekend uniform of jeans and a white tee. The sneakers you choose have the power to transform what you're wearing, so don't underestimate these comfy shoes when you're getting dressed.

If your ideal sneaker style is something sleek and minimal, I'd suggest looking to labels like Lemaire or Toteme for understated options. While scrolling through TikTok these days, I can’t help but notice how much my For You Page has changed since I first downloaded the app. My feed—once a slightly less-than-cohesive curation of dermatology deep dives, deep-cleaning transformations (so satisfying), and cute animal videos—has blossomed into a refreshingly frank and often quite funny introduction to some of the latest fashion trends courtesy of the next generation of creatives.

Exhibits one through four are Rahsheen Fatemi, Lucius Firmin, Koral Gardea, and Amanda Quach, four TikTokers whose posts are constantly popping up on my #FYP thanks to the artful and personality-packed looks that my Millennial brain could never have dreamed up. I expect you’ll see all four of these influencers making major waves in the industry in the not-so-distant future—and not just because they’ve dreamed up some of my favorite winter-ready styling moments. Below, learn more about these must-know TikTok creators, and then see four cool ’fits that perfectly represent their distinct styles—all anchored, of course, by their favorite shoe brand, Converse.

Rahsheen Fatemi (aka @curvyqueensheen) tells me she began her TikTok journey with the intent to create a space for curvier women to see themselves in clothes. "Although fashion is expanding in representation, there is still a lack of representation when it comes to curvier and plus-size POC bodies,” she notes. "I hope my audience knows that anyone with any style and size can participate in fashion,” continues Fatemi, an L.A. native who is well on her way to achieving her goal of being a full-time fashion creator. "I want women to look in the mirror and say, ‘I am the It girl.’”

As for the inspiration behind her bold, off-duty look? Her Aquarius moon. "I like to think I make unique and different choices,” she adds. "I chose this pair of Converse because it gives me that. They have the blueprint of classic Chuck Taylors with a twist, which makes them fun and unique. Plus, who doesn’t love the cozy sherpa texture?” No arguments here.

"Since the shoes are black and white, I wanted to style them with something colorful to contrast those neutral tones,” she continues. "The colorful pants highlight the Converse and pull the whole outfit together.”

El Paso–based TikToker Koral Gardea says the most rewarding part of growing her account is the messages she gets from her followers. "Recently, I’ve received a lot of messages from girls saying that I’ve motivated them to try new styles and wear clothes with confidence,” she says. "That is my goal—to inspire people through my videos.”

Her fun and effortless vintage-influenced style shines through on her TikTok profile, where she regularly posts thrift hauls, #OOTDs, and tips for transitioning looks from day to night. "My boyfriend has told me he is able to guess what kind of day I’ve had through the outfit I’m wearing,” she says. "I like to speak through the clothes I wear. I personally like to show off my personality through the prints and colors I incorporate into my ’fits.”

She built her cozy, holiday-ready, off-duty look around her favorite pair of Converse sneakers. "These spoke to me!” she says. "I love everything leather. The sneakers I chose match my style perfectly since it has a fun but subtle pattern. Converse is the easiest sneaker to grab when you want to look put-together and casual at the same time.”

Lucius Firmin admits that he has an important person to thank for his TikTok fame: his sister. "When she told me to start an account, I just laughed in her face because I never saw myself doing it,” says the Boston-based stylist and designer, who runs his own company, Crav Industries. "However, once I saw it was more than just dancing to trendy songs, I knew I could utilize it in a way I would enjoy.”

These days, more than 90k followers eye his page for a daily dose of street style. As for his future in the fashion industry, the sky’s the limit. "I hope to grow big enough to the point where I am well known in the fashion industry for multiple things,” he shares. "I hope to even get big enough to collaborate with brands like Converse in the future.”

Speaking of which, his minimalistic winter-ready look is anchored by the company’s timeless Sherpa Chuck 70 style. "I love a cream-and-brown color combo (as you can see if you scroll down my feed),” he says. "This cream cropped puffer jacket and these brown cargos flow very well with the shoes.”

20-year-old Amanda Quach (aka @virghoexoxo) serves up some of the boldest, most original looks on TikTok, and her 295k followers are here for it. "Fashion is my favorite form of self-expression, and as a creative introvert, it’s almost my way of communicating with like minds without having to be a social butterfly,” she says. "An outfit can tell a lot about a person and what they’re feeling, and that’s what I love about it. There are no boundaries with who partakes in fashion.”

Through her vibrant ’fits, which range from "tame cyber emo” to "frilly cottagecore,” Quach started her account as a creative outlet during quarantine and has big plans of continuing to grow her platform. "Aside from making groovy content, in the next few years, I’m crossing my fingers that I can start working on creating a size-inclusive clothing brand or even just a collaboration with other creatives to provide funky fashion for all sizes,” she says.

As for funky fashion, she put together this look using some of her favorite pieces: Chuck Taylor boots, a zip-up sweater, a long denim skirt, and a chunky two-tone scarf. "These Converse are a shade of brown that I could wear with literally anything, so I decided to be as vibrant and fun with this outfit as possible instead of playing matchy-matchy with more neutrals,” she explains. "And yes, this is my Californian take on a winter outfit.”

Since starting at Who What Wear just six short months ago, Aniyah Morinia has low-key been the source of much of my style inspiration. She knows it, too! I stalk her Instagram and TikTok accounts so often that she now expects me to ask where she got her latest outfit or accessory nearly every time she posts new content. But I won't apologize—the girl has really good style.

Now that it's finally getting cold in Los Angeles (and by cold, I mean just under 65°), I'm paying even closer attention to Aniyah's on-trend New York winter 'fits. From high-top sneakers to leather boots, her new footwear is adding that casual, comfortable, and effortlessly cool vibe that I'm always aiming for with my outfits. Aniyah's been prioritizing comfort since moving from Florida to NYC, which explains her gravitation toward Converse footwear. "If it's not comfortable, I don't want to wear it," she tells me. "Now that I'm walking everywhere I go and riding the subway, which requires flights of stairs, I only want to wear shoes that are the perfect blend of stylish and comfortable." Leather apparel and accessories, like these sneakers, have become a staple in fall and winter wardrobes, so I'm not surprised to see that Aniyah chose this pair. I love the way she styled her new kicks with a trench coat in a similar texture. The fresh white mini skirt brings out the white in the shoe, and the green turtleneck adds that slightly festive element to the look. "I would wear this to see the fall foliage in Central Park," she tells me. "It's comfortable and easy to wear but still has that holiday touch. I can already see myself holding a hot chocolate and enjoying the multicolored leaves."

Next up, Aniyah styles what appears at first glance to be a similar high-top sneaker. Not so! Take a closer look, and you'll notice this pair features a very on-trend sherpa fabric. Fuzzy coats have been popular for a while now, but this season is all about introducing the plush texture to accessories, from handbags to hats to footwear. "These sneakers feel very seasonal and trendy while still being an easy-to-style, neutral shoe," Aniyah shares.

Aniyah tells me that she's been leaning into neutral looks with a fun pop of color lately, which is apparent both here and in her look above. "I kept my outfit pretty simple and subdued because the sneakers make such a statement," she says. The styling here is also just the right amount of polished thanks to those split-hem trousers, which offer a perfect frame for the sherpa kicks. "I would wear this to any work-related function," she says. "It's a casual look, but the blazer coupled with the turtleneck adds a little bit of polish."

If you didn't know that Converse made boots, then allow Aniyah and me to really shake up your wardrobe in the best way. The jogger pants hit right at my ankle, allowing for the boots to stand out." She says this is the perfect outfit for doing all of her holiday gift shopping. We'll say it again: Comfort is key!

I'm a self-admitted lazy dresser, so I love to see a celebrity who isn't afraid to be photographed in a chill, no-effort outfit, and that's exactly how I'd describe Dakota Johnson's newest look. Even though she certainly cleans up well when it comes to the red carpet—hello, feathered gown—Johnson also loves a relaxed vibe for her days off. Case in point: the sweatpants-and-Converse outfit she wore for a coffee run with Chris Martin.

The self-proclaimed "Ohio socialite" has amassed millions of followers on TikTok for her humorous videos where she wears clothes from the '90s and early 2000s, transforming into her "Rich Caroline" persona. 

With Juicy Couture tracksuits and thrifted platform heels, Ricke describes her style as "Disney Channel star mixed with suburban mom," and honestly, that feels right.

"I don't wear ugly clothes. I wear statement pieces," she adds.

Most of our holiday plans (not to mention lives) are quite different in just about every way this year, and we've been shifting our wardrobes accordingly. Don't let that fool you into thinking we've given up on great style in any way though. Rather, we're swapping our usual festive attire for more practical denim (the stretchier, the better), knit dresses, and platform sneakers.

Two Who What Wear editors, in particular, Lauren Eggertsen and Courtney Higgs, are almost exclusively wearing pairs from Converse at the moment, styling them with all of their winter-ready 'fits no matter the occasion (or whether there even is one at all). Their laid-back looks are so good, we guarantee you'll be saying good riddance to your party heels for quite some time.

Lauren is typically someone who loves to get dressed up for any and every occasion, but right now, she says, "Sneakers just make more sense." She conveniently owns over a dozen pairs of Converse (all high top styles by the way!) but is reaching for her new Run Star Hike sneakers the most this season. For intimate family gatherings during the holidays, she plans to dress up her Run Star Hike sneakers a bit more than usual. "I love pairing sneakers with something a tad unexpected like a leather blazer and a minidress—the contrast makes for an interesting-yet-approachable look," she explains. Lauren also reminds us that the platform soles are a big footwear trend right now, making this outfit a clear winner.

For a more casual occasion, like picking up some last minute holiday gifts, Lauren's styling her Converse with denim to keep things casual. Her printed red top feels just the right amount of seasonally appropriate without getting too close to full-on festive attire. (No ugly Christmas sweaters for her this year.) "I love the look of the bold blouse with the loud sneakers. Clearly, I am not afraid to make a statement," she confirms.

Courtney is gravitating toward the Cozy Club version, which is another editor-favorite platform style. "These leather shoes have a layer of soft faux-fur lining that helps keep my feet warm and comfortable without leaning fully into shearling boots or anything too bulky," she explains. Those who like to add a little height to their look, pay attention because Courtney swears by this pair of platforms when she wants to give her five-foot, one-inch frame a little extra lift. (Who needs heels anyway?) We really love the way they look here paired with a very on trend snakeskin mini skirt and chunky knit sweater.

Courtney is staying local for the holidays, creating new traditions at home with her fiancé and very cute pup (a Frenchie named Bernie). "Any opportunity to put on real clothes is a treat, so I don’t hold back anymore," she says. This dress outfit, in particular, is practical for a California winter day while still feeling very much polished and put-together. "Even from six feet away, anyone will be able to see that I’m killin' it," Courtney says of this look.

If there's a pair of shoes that has remained well-loved in my closet since the age of 14, it's my trusty converse. (I have more than the normal amount of pairs, including glitter ones.) The classic shoe simply never goes out of style and continues to be reinvented by the brand with new styles, colorways, and collaborations. It's not just me, because the fashion crowd continues to rely on the shoe as a staple in completing their effortless yet chic looks. 

While I recently (and finally) replaced my most-used black up pair with the brand's latest platform style, I looked towards the 'gram for fresh outfit inspiration to try out when my order makes it's way to my front doot. They've become her unofficial campaign shoes, as she's worn them for various stops around the country with skinny jeans and blazers in recent weeks.

We have no idea if Jennifer Lawrence is aware of Kamala Harris' love of Converse. And it could certainly be a coincidence that she too has started wearing them, or perhaps she was inspired by Harris' go-to sneakers.
