I’ll be honest—celebrities haven’t always been my go-to for fashion inspiration. With all the loud prints, bold hues, and statement pieces, I often found them a little too 'out there' for my more pared-back, refined wardrobe. But 2025? It’s changed everything.

From last month’s Met Gala, which featured celebrities showcasing their finest tailoring to pay homage to Black dandyism, to the Cannes Film Festival that took French glamour to the next level, 2025 is the year that celebrities have truly impressed me with their style. And just when I thought they couldn’t top themselves, last night’s Serpentine Summer Party took place.

Each year, the Serpentine Gallery celebrates its newly unveiled pavilion, and 2025’s spotlight was on Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum, whose ‘A Capsule in Time’ installation—crafted from sculptural wooden and bamboo structures—was nothing short of spectacular.

The guest list was no less impressive, including plenty of our favourite fashion icons, from Monroe Bergdorf to Lily Allen, who, instead of the brightly coloured ensembles we usually spot on the carpet, opted for chic monochromatic looks that can easily be adapted into our own everyday wardrobes.

It's always interesting to see where celebs are headed and what they're wearing whenever they touch down at an airport. Whether flying private or commercial, stars of all magnitudes must contend with how to dress for a flight—especially when they know they'll be photographed. Case in point, actress Cate Blanchett was spotted at JFK International Airport wearing an all-white ensemble and oversize shades.

Typically, the Australia-born megastar aces airport style. From denim-on-denim designs to three-piece suits, Blanchett isn't one for keeping it casual. This jumpsuit outfit, while certainly chic, seems much more fashionable than functional. Completely disrobing to use the restroom is not ideal, especially in the air, and wearing a one-piece makes it unavoidable. Blanchett's matching white sneakers, however, are a step in the right direction.

As the SAG-AFTRA union strike marches on, I can't help but miss red carpet fashion moments. Cate Blanchett is one of the celebrities best known for her impeccable red carpet style, where she's regularly dripping in diamonds and designer gowns, but her off-duty style is absolutely worth noting, too. Photographed on a late-summer vacation in Ibiza, Spain, Blanchett looked incredibly chic in a loose vest, matching trousers, and a white button-down shirt.

It was her shoes, however, that caught my attention. If I had to describe her outfit, it I'd say "business on top, party on the bottom." Her platform clogs are certainly a polarizing choice, as the clunky trend isn't for everyone—and that's more than okay. Celebrities, they're just like us. Except when they're not at all. When jetting to and from their red carpet appearances, traveling to film on location, or simply heading on their own vacations, the Hollywood crowd plays by a set of rules all their own, at least when it comes to what they wear to the airport. You'd think that some of the most well-traveled A-listers would have their travel style down pat, but the styling choices we're about to dive into here say otherwise.

Yep, today we're discussing all the daring, controversial, and downright risky fashion choices celebs have been making while heading to the airport, from boldly wearing an all-white ensemble to stepping out in tall stilettos and even donning heavy-duty leather pieces. There's no question that the seven looks below are anything short of flawless, but I'll be the first one to say it: the idea of recreating them for myself makes me, well, squeamish. And sure, if you're a celeb catching a flight you're probably not roughing it like the rest of us in the main security checkpoint or even heading to a major airport if you fly private, but nonetheless these outfit choices are puzzling ones for any kind of air travel.

The offense: Opting for an all-white outfit

On Olivia Wilde: Nili Lotan Blazer and Pants; Hanes Rib Tank ($11); Lucchese Boots; Celine Bag

Absolutely no shade to Olivia Wilde because she looks so cool here, but I'd be lying if I said that the thought of wearing this exact outfit on a flight didn't make me squirm out of discomfort. Her off-white suit is extremely chic, especially with the funky cowboy boots, but I just know I'd become a magnet for stains if I ever wore the same thing to the airport.

Try instead: darker colors

The offense: Wearing thin, sheer fabric

On Jodie Turner-Smith: Casablanca suit; Jimmy Choo Maelie 70 Leather Sandals ($595); Quay Chain Reaction Sunglasses ($65)

While arriving at the airport in Venice, Italy to attend the Venice International Film Festival, actress Jodie Turner-Smith wore a stunning pastel ombré suit. It's the kind of ensemble that Turner-Smith could have easily walked right off the plane and onto the red carpet in. Looks aside, though, we can't help but call out that the tissue-thin, sheer fabric of the suit would leave us shivering underneath the blast of an in-flight A/C.

Try instead: Knit fabrics

The offense: Carrying a top-handle-only bag

Amal Clooney's offense is a relatively minor one when compared to some of the other's we've already discussed. But nonetheless it's something I personally always try and avoid. Ever the polished dresser, Clooney arrived at the airport with a top-handle bag as a personal item in addition to her carry-on roller luggage. As you can see from the photo, it doesn't leave her with any free hands to hold her boarding pass and I.D. at security so while it's certainly chic, it's kind of impractical. Instead, I'd carry a bag with an additional shoulder or crossbody strap.

Try instead: Travel bags that go over the shoulder

The offense: Wearing a jumpsuit (and a leather one, at that)

Cate Blanchett's leather flight suit is giving all kinds of Top Gun energy. But it's daring for two reasons. The first is that jumpsuits of any kind are typically a no-no when traveling simply because they're tricky to get on and off. And then add in that Blanchett's is made from a heavy-duty leather that I'd imagine wouldn't be very comfortable to wearing while sitting down for a long period of time. Sure, I wouldn't personally copy this one but I can't deny just how cool it looks on her.

Try instead: Cargo separates

The offense: Stepping out in open-toed heels

On Anne Hathaway: Nili Lotan Flora Trouser Jeans ($425); Dr. Barbara Sturm x Aquzzura Storm mules

Anne Hathaway is known to be an expert airport dresses. See exhibit A, B, and C. But on this particular occasion while arriving to the airport in Cannes, the actress wore a pair of shoes that strike me as being the opposite of travel-friendly. Her strappy Aquazzura mules feature a 3.7-inch stiletto heel with an open toe and while there's no question they look good (especially with her trouser jeans and button-down shirt), there's just no way they're the comfiest option to fly in.

Try instead: Classic loafers

The offense: Wearing tall heels and a summery outfit

On Florence Pugh: Valentino shirt, top, shorts, shoes, and bag

Florence Pugh is no stranger to a daring outfit choice, whether she be stepping out in sky-high Valentino platforms or a sheer thong-exposing skirt. But this look is controversial in a different sense. While it's a casual summer outfit we'd gladly pack for vacation, the crop top, shorts, and strappy heels don't exactly scream practical for the airport. I don't know about you, but I'm getting cold just looking at her.

Try instead: Lounge pant sets

The offense: Embracing bare legs

On Ana de Armas: Louis Vuitton Dauphine MM Bag ($3800); Brunello Cucinelli loafers

Ana de Armas wore a pair of shorts to the airport—and white ones, at that. While she was probably coming back from a warmer climate, wearing shorts on a flight is still a risky decision no matter the destination or departure. 

Try instead: Relaxed trousers

The Cannes Film Festival is now in full swing, meaning for the next two weeks, the arrivals hall at the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport will be flooded with the biggest names in Hollywood. The red carpet is considered the most glamorous in the world, but unless you frequently attend galas on yachts, you won't be able to take any practical style tips from the sea of couture gowns.

However, the style parade arriving at the Nice airport is a different story. In fact, the place has turned into its own red carpet of sorts, as a pack of photographers are there for every incoming flight and A-listers are planning their Cannes arrival outfits as if it was a photocall, but this is actually where the likes of Bella Hadid, Jessica Chastain and Julianne Moore wear looks we can all copy. But like any sort of stylish get-together, there will be a few who want to surprise. Case in point for 2018? Well, when you scroll down to see Kendall Jenner's sheer, taupe-coloured leggings and matching backless top styled with her snakeskin boots, you'll know what we mean. So the time is almost here—the award ceremony red carpet that we count down towards every year. Of course, I'm talking about the Oscars. In the lead up to the 89^th Academy Awards tomorrow, we’re taking a look back at every dress worth remembering (as worn by an Australian, of course).

The Academy Awards can help define a career. The right red carpet choice can solidify an actresses place in Hollywood (superficial, but true).

In 2007, Nicole Kidman wore a crimson-red Balenciaga dress with a soft bow draped over her right shoulder. That look will be etched into my memory forever.

The requirements for the EE British Academy Film Awards red carpet are far more complex than those of any in Hollywood. Why? Let's be honest, it's all down to the inclement weather. While we’re still coming down from the high of all the incredible looks from the 73rd annual Golden Globes Awards, the nominations for the 88th Academy Awards were announced this morning—AKA one of the biggest red carpet events of the year.

Australian actress Cate Blanchett makes the list, and joining her is one of our new favourite actresses, Alicia Vikander. If the looks they wore to the Golden Globes is anything to go by, we’re in for an exciting red carpet.

This could very well be the year that puts truly exciting red-carpet fashion back into the style sphere. For too long have celebrities and stylists been too careful, safe in their lovely-but-seen-it-before ballgowns without a risk of falling onto a worst dressed list. The new mood in fashion town is one of joyous individuality, of piling on your accessories until you resemble Iris Apfel's twin or a Gucci campaign girl, of approaching trends four at a time with wild abandon and not giving two tosses over what's actually en vogue or not.

It seems that the unique message has definitely spread to the A-list world, with last night's W Magazine Golden Globes Party at L.A.'s famed Chateau Marmont sparking up a series of brocade trouser suits, crazy faux fur combined with slip dresses, seriously shiny slit-to-there frocks paired with suede OTKs… Wrong on paper, so right IRL. No chance these experimental looks are landing on a no-no pile—not in our opinion, anyway.
