I'm not going to lie. I had my doubts about Love Story, Ryan Murphy's series on FX about Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr. I, like so many others spanning all generations, feel an attachment to the couple, particularly to Bessette. She's been my number one style inspiration for much of my life not because of the labels she wore but because of how she wore clothes. She dressed with ease and elegance, whether she was donning jeans and flip-flops in Cape Cod or attending a museum gala on the Upper East Side. The paparazzi photos taken from the set of the series nearly ruined it for me, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. It is just right—so much so that I cannot stop watching. This, in turn, has transformed my Instagram feed to be even more CBK-focused than normal.

Whenever I look to archival '90s runway photos for inspiration, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren always stand out. Even back then, both set the standard for fashion that went beyond trends.

When I think of Calvin Klein, it's impossible not to picture Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's iconic style and Kate Moss walking in its shows. Calvin Klein has launched a new Our Calvins campaign starring Tell Me Lies actors Grace Van Patten and Jackson White. Wearing the brand's limited-edition Valentine's Day underwear and loungewear capsule, the two were shot and directed together by Zora Sicher.

In a press release, Van Patten shared, "Calvin Klein has always been about confidence, connection, and being comfortable in your own skin. Valentine's Day is such a good excuse to celebrate that kind of closeness. This campaign is about the easy, intimate moments—when you can be yourself, laugh, and just have fun." White added, "There was something very intimate about this experience that made it different from other projects. Stripped back to just our Calvins, we were able to be fully present with each other and lean into how special and effortless our connection is."

Picture this: It's the summer of 1996. The Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan already won the NBA championship (again), and the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, have just started. In a few months, the Spice Girls will release their debut album, and on Friends, Ross and Rachel are about to decide that it's time to take a break (kind of). And if all that wasn't enough, Emma, the 1996 film adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, just came out, with star Gwyneth Paltrow attending the New York City premiere alongside her brother, Jake, and parents, actress Blythe Danner, and director and producer Bruce Paltrow. Her outfit for the occasion: A little black dress by Calvin Klein, of course.

Just like today, the style back in '96 was all about minimalism, so Paltrow's scoop-neck, sleeveless gown wasn't showy, but casually elegant, with a fitted silhouette and floor-grazing hemline. For the most part, she didn't even accessorize, only wearing a pair of simple diamond studs and black satin sandals. She finished off the ensemble with a satin clutch and a dark red lip.

Nearly two decades later, Paltrow's Emma premiere look would fit right in in 2025—and it did, this time, on her 21-year-old daughter. Apple Martin accompanied her mom to tonight's New York City premiere of Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, where she wore Paltrow's exact Calvin Klein dress from when she, too, was in her early 20s. The entire ensemble was styled by Paltrow's stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman, and paid homage to both her mom's film career and her lauded '90s street and red carpet style. When Veronica Leoni, the newly appointed creative director of Calvin Klein, unveiled her F/W 25 collection in February in NYC, the fashion world was abuzz with excitement. Not only was it the first time Calvin Klein had shown in the city since 2018, but it was also Leoni's inaugural collection. Insiders celebrated her skillful mix of fresh innovation and understated yet chic coolness while honoring Calvin Klein's legacy of American simplicity. All the praise left fashion people eagerly waiting to see what Leoni would do next. Yesterday, that anticipation culminated in a beautiful showcase for S/S 26.

Taking place at the Brant Foundation in NYC, the Calvin Klein show was a star-studded event. A-list attendees, including Rosalía, Lily Collins, and Solange Knowles, were there to support Leoni's sophomore collection. Speaking of the collection, it focused on and mastered sensual minimalism, starting with monochromatic black, white, and beige outfits, some of which included thin-strap sculpted dresses paired with modest headscarves and leather loafers or boots. On the other hand, tailored pants and shorts were styled with low, rounded-neck blazers that featured delicate bras peeking out from the top. Long fringe dresses and pops of green, pink, and red added personality, as did what some might call the star of the show, a tweed dress woven with the brand’s iconic logo underwear waistbands.

A-List Attendees

So far, the hottest place to be and be seen during New York Fashion Week has been at Calvin Klein's S/S 26 show. The celebrities showed up and out, dressed to the nines for the American fashion house. Rosalía, the face of Calvin Klein's fall 2025 underwear campaign, was in attendance alongside Lily Collins, Solange Knowles, Naomi Watts, and Emily Ratajkowski. But the top-tier guest list didn't stop there. When it came to the men, Jungkook, a member of the K-pop group BTS and Calvin Klein global brand ambassador, also sat front-row with Christopher Briney, aka Conrad from The Summer I Turned Pretty. TL;DR: Calvin Klein knows how to assemble a group of chic celebrities.

An Intimate Touch

As mentioned, one of the main themes of the collection was sensual minimalism, expressed predominantly by bras that peeked out from beneath tailored dresses and jackets. Made from sheer fabrics and luxe satin, these bras added an air of mystery and allure. They revealed just one to two inches of delicate intimacy, skillfully balancing the fine line between visibility and concealment, indulgence and restraint. Some bras were in deep muted tones, while others shone in shades of pink, injecting a playful energy that felt different but refreshing for the brand.

Belted Silhouettes

Very thin, rope-like belts added a sensual yet understated element to the collection. While they were wrapped around tailored blazers, leather trench coats, and long-sleeve draped dresses, their goal was clear: to gently accentuate the contours of the female silhouette. They accomplished this all the while exuding an air of sophistication, elegance, and refinement.

Tactile Textures

Leoni pushed her minimalist vision further, daringly experimenting not only with shapes but also with textures. Long-sleeve slip dresses came alive with cascading strands of fringe, reminiscent of long locks of hair that danced with each movement. We also saw trench coats and leather dresses styled with tassel keychains and handbags that draped effortlessly from the models' hands. In a delightful surprise, the American house introduced pom-pom accessories—an unexpected trend we're seeing for spring—that decorated pencil skirts and oversize blazers, adding flair to the sophisticated silhouettes.

CK Underwear Influence

Since Leoni stepped into her new role last year, her mission at Calvin Klein has been to breathe new life into the brand through fresh and innovative designs, all while honoring its rich heritage. With this new collection, she certainly achieved that, especially in the latter part. The iconic CK underwear was reimagined with dresses that featured the banded part of the underwear woven together. She even drew inspiration from the intimate wear to design sporty sunglasses that featured the black-and-white Calvin Klein branding. However, her creativity didn't stop there; Leoni also made sheer white leggings with the CK waistband feel wearable by styling them with a cropped draped blouse and leather moccasins.

Not too long ago, it felt like you couldn’t turn a corner without brushing shoulders with someone in a barn jacket. But as with all things in fashion, even the most beloved pieces shift in and out of focus. And while I’d never go so far as to declare the barn jackets are out (perish the thought—I still reach for mine on any cooler day), I can't deny that, right now, sleeker, more refined silhouettes are coming to the fore: specifically the single-breasted blazer.

Making a strong case for the return of tailoring, Emily Ratajkowski stepped out in New York this week wearing a razor-sharp Calvin Klein blazer that looked as though it had been plucked straight from the '90s archives. With its clean lines, subtle button detailing and longline cut skimming the top of the thigh.

Upon seeing it, it struck me at just how little I've seen of button-up single-breasted blazers before now; clearly Ratajkoski has captured the styling energy we'll all be tapping into this autumn

Styling it with the suit's matching trousers, Ratajkowski completed her outfit with a pair of peep-toe heels that added a relaxed charm to the sharp suit. And while I love how she styled it as a full suit, I can just as easily picture this blazer working with capri trousers, denim, or even a miniskirt.

The iconic fashion house just staged its first show since the spring/summer 2019 season with a new creative director—Veronica Leoni. The NYFW schedule has been dominated by smaller brands in recent years, so when something as high profile and significant as a Calvin Klein Collection comeback occurs, the excitement is palpable.

A slew of celebrities and supermodels were in attendance, and even Kendall Jenner—who rarely walks the NYFW runways anymore—was part of the model lineup, wearing a wide-shouldered maxi coat and patent-leather flats. Reviews for Leoni's debut collection were strong, so let's hope that Calvin Klein Collection becomes a NYFW fixture once again. The New Designer

Leoni, the first female creative director for the brand, has lent her design skills to Céline, The Row, and Jil Sander (to name a few) over the years. In general, Calvin Klein hasn't always been seen as soft and pretty, but this season, there was a noticeable shift toward this aesthetic. Satin, pastels, and off-the-shoulder silhouettes were just a few of the romantic touches that merged with the brand's signature minimalism.

We're only a week into fall, and I've already overhauled my closet. I'm moving all of my tank tops and minidresses to the side and bringing the true fall essentials to the forefront. These are the core pieces I wouldn't dare enter the season without: blazers, button-ups, trousers, and more.

Calvin Klein has mastered the art of basics that never feel boring, and I'm not ashamed to say that my screen time has increased just from browsing all the options. As we head into chillier weather, layers are crucial when the daily forecast randomly goes from 65° and cloudy to 75° and sunny. On the other hand, blazers have become my go-to when I want to look a little bit more polished without committing to a full suit. What is it like to meet a Disney princess? Exactly what you’d think.

Halle Bailey arrived at our cover shoot with her adorable cat Poseidon in tow. Her fur baby was under the weather, and like any good Disney princess, she was concerned with the care of her creature but still made sure to greet everyone with a warm smile. Bailey is beautiful and luminous in a way you can’t forget. She is the gospel song "This Little Light of Mine” personified.

The day that I meet Bailey for our interview at a sprawling Beverly Hills mansion—the setting for our June cover shoot—she is days away from the start of an epic worldwide press tour for The Little Mermaid, and I asked what message she has for her future self. "I think my note to future Halle would be, ‘Everything is going to be okay. It’s gonna be amazing. Be confident, be proud of yourself and the work that you put into this film, and just enjoy yourself, girl,’” she says.

Never has anyone seemed more fated for a role than Bailey flipping the fin of Ariel. Director Rob Marshall has already made it clear on the press tour for The Little Mermaid that, of the hundreds of young women they saw, Bailey was his clear choice for the live-action remake.

The story goes that Marshall knew Bailey was his Ariel after seeing her and her sister perform at the 2019 Grammys, but Bailey wasn’t sure what the Disney team had up their sleeves when they made the appeal for her to audition. "I had received the requests through my agency, CAA, and they told me that Rob Marshall, the director, wanted to see me for The Little Mermaid. I just remember thinking to myself, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s so cool. What role? … Maybe one of the sisters or something like that.’ And then they said, ‘Ariel, he wants you to read as the lead.’ Instantly, I was so excited but so nervous because of just how much she means to me,” she says. "I instantly went into overdrive trying to prepare for the audition, going over and over it again with my sister and trying to get notes from my family of what can I fix. And then I ended up in New York and met Rob Marshall for the first time. [He] was so kind, was so genuine to me, and just made me feel so comfortable. I was just filled with so much gratitude and joy that he was honestly a really cool person and genuine inside and out.”

It’s worth noting that The Little Mermaid marks Bailey’s first solo career move. Up to this point, Bailey has done everything professionally alongside her sister, Chloe. The two not only make up the Grammy-nominated R&B duo Chloe x Halle, but they also starred together in the Freeform series Grown-ish.

They got their start under Beyoncé’s record label, Parkwood Entertainment, touring with the iconic superstar as tweens. The two Parkwood protégés have a closeness that is so sweet and genuine. You hear the collective "aw” on set when Halle asks that we play Chloe’s new album during the shoot. "My sister is my angel, I truly feel,” she tells me. "So the fact that I got to grow up doing this with her is the luckiest thing that could have ever happened to me because I don’t think I would have been doing any of this without her. The whole sole reason I wanted to sing is because I saw my sister singing. … Next thing you know, we’re singing together, then we’re doing shows together.”

If ever two people made a more dynamic debut, it’s the Bailey sisters. After Ungodly Hour, the sisters decided to take a break from their group to try their hands at solo pursuits. Chloe stepped into her full diva era, performing a sold-out national tour of her debut album and taking on a killer role in the Donald Glover–directed series Swarm. When I think of Chloe and Halle, I hear Nina Simone singing "To Be Young, Gifted and Black.”

The level of poise and humility Halle Bailey displays, I learn, can be attributed to two things: her faith and her family. "I think just growing up in Georgia—and I have a lot of family in South Carolina—we’re Southern girls from a really big family,” she shares. "All my life, I’ve just been surrounded by genuine, true love. But at the same time, when you grow up young in this entertainment industry, you have to take yourself away from the hoopla of it all. Me and my sister had to learn that from a young age, being 15 on tour with Beyoncé. I try not to identify my accomplishments as my worth. That way, I can still stay grounded and feel like I’m a real human being. What matters is love and being with the people you love and the happy, joyful moments that you have with one another. Those are the things that last. God is a very big part of my life and everything as well because none of this will be possible without my faith.”

Bailey is also quick to credit the Parkwood education in stardom for how she got to where she is now: "I think just having that example of the amazing Queen Bey... [She is an] amazing, pristine example of just a hard worker and pushing yourself and knowing that you can just inspire so many generations. That was an amazing example and mentor for us.”

While taking her first step into solo stardom in one of the year’s most anticipated films serves as a massive breakout moment for Bailey, taking a role this big wasn’t part of any carefully curated plan. It was the direction she was led in, and she was open to receiving it. "I’m a very ‘go with the flow’ type of girl,” she adds. "I just let God lead my life. Wherever I’m meant to be, I will end up. I never thought that this would be the way I would be really entering into the acting world. When I think about it, it’s just a mindfreak. It’s immense, and I’m so grateful for it. But I did not think I would venture into acting in this way starting with such a big film.”

As my grandmother would have said, "If you surrender yourself up to God’s blessings, you may be surprised where it leads you.”

When Bailey stepped into the role of Ariel, she entered the world of FODs (First, Only, Different—a phrase coined by Shonda Rhimes). Bailey is quick to give flowers to the FODs who came before her, Brandy Norwood (who played Cinderella in the 1997 Rodgers and Hammerstein TV adaptation) and Anika Noni Rose (the voice of Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess, in The Princess and the Frog).

For a girl who once played with mermaids with her sister, landing the part of Ariel is a dream come true for Bailey, and she hopes her casting is one day seen as standard and not extraordinary. "It’s crazy, because we’re in the year 2023. You would think that these firsts are not firsts anymore,” she says with wistful optimism. "I just hope that for the future it’s not such a shock anymore for a Black woman to be cast as Ariel and for that to just be a normal thing.”

While the character of Ariel means so much to many, it’s beautiful to hear how much the character taught Bailey.

"I’ve been comfortable really just being with somebody all the time. Somebody has always held my hand. I’ve never had to do anything alone. So this was really my first venture into solo adulthood. I had moved to London, and I was in intense rehearsals and stunts and mermaid training, and all of a sudden, I’m going through this not only physical transformation but [also] mental and spiritual transformation of me finding who I am on my own and building that confidence within myself to be able to do these things,” she says. "So I truly feel like Ariel taught me that I’m worthy, and I’m stronger than I thought. We were filming in the middle of the pandemic and in London, and my family couldn’t come visit me. So I was very isolated. Everything was closed down. I would literally go from work to home, and I would sleep on the weekends because I’d be so tired, and then I’d go right back to work. But looking back, I am happy that it was that way. [It] helped me mirror the emotions Ariel was feeling in the film to where she felt trapped and isolated and ready to see a brand-new world where her heart belonged. I felt like there were parallels to both of our lives in the time that I was filming, and I was grateful for that.”

Bailey’s casting was the start of a conversation about where we, as Black women, are allowed to be, even in the world of fictional characters. Many will say Black folks got Tiana, but they fail to remember that she spent the majority of the movie as a frog. So the message was clear: Even in the fantastical, Black women still didn’t get to be ethereal and beautiful. 

But this is different.

A princess we know and love wears red goddess locs and has melanin-rich skin that soaks up the sun. What does that do to your brain to look at a princess and see yourself? A lot. We all saw the little girls whose paradigm shifted in real time watching the film’s trailer. You can see the look in their eyes—their visions for themselves are expanding. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who didn’t cry while watching trailer reactions all over the internet.

As our interview comes to a close, I take a moment to personally thank Bailey for the impact this film has had on me. What does this film feel like to this almost 35-year-old woman?

When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I dressed as the Little Mermaid—bad red wig, purple seashell bra, and fin. I spent the entire evening of trick-or-treating being asked what I was. I was beyond confused because it seemed obvious, as I had all the regalia of Ariel. 

Like the Bailey sisters, I love the ocean, feeling like a fish in the water. So that led to a 12-year Junior Olympic swimming career, travelling the country but hearing competitors call me "black terror” behind my back. There were some pools where I swam that had just taken their first Black members 15 years before I stood on those pool decks.

I sat in on an advance screening of Halle Bailey’s The Little Mermaid, and I cried from the moment the credits started until the film finished. It wasn’t that the movie was particularly emotional or felt like a "very special edition” of the classic Disney film. It was the realisation of how much you were missing before your vision expanded to even include it.

I felt my heart crack open the first time Bailey’s face appeared on-screen. I’d never given myself permission to imagine something like it. Yes, I heard my inner child cheering for joy, but in this moment, the woman who still carries the uncomfortable weight of being called "black terror” through her entire swim career felt that weight disappear. Yes, it’s a remake of a children’s movie, but seeing Bailey playing Ariel makes Black folks feel so much more.

Our relationship with the water is a fraught one. We were carried across it to chattel slavery. We were barred from public pools, with bleach thrown in the water while we tried to splash around. We were hosed with it till our skin flayed when trying to fight for our freedom. Water was weaponized against us during Jim Crow terrorism—it’s about time we reclaimed it.

We’ve tried to return to it. We’ve started acknowledging and calling on the goddess Oshun. But perhaps, as silly as it seems, Bailey stepping into this role is the first step to healing and embracing the libation of water from our ancestors to us.

I cheered when I saw Ariel’s sisters run the gamut from a fair blonde woman to a dark-skinned Black woman. Even the royal court of Prince Eric reminds me of Whoopi Goldberg and Victor Garber as the parents of Filipino Prince Charming Paolo Montalban. It’s not colour-blind casting—it’s colour-brave casting. It requires you to allow everyone into the fantasy.

We’re all there in this film because this young woman had the grace, poise, and preparation to say "Why not me?” to the role of a lifetime.

Style Notes: This look is so chic. There's no question that I would love to wear this for dinner on a summer evening. The top's cut feels '60s-inspired. It's sleeveless with a fairly straight fit, but the real beauty is in the black swirl print and overlapping fastening at the back. I styled it with these slightly flared cargo pants to add shape to my silhouette, and placed this beautifully soft leather jacket over my shoulders to add a little more black. It's so sleek, minimalist, and effective. If I were going from a meeting to the restaurant, I wouldn't change a single element.

Style Notes: Everyone knows that summer in the UK requires a trench coat, but this trench is not like any other. It's thick and structured without feeling claustrophobic. It's the perfect length, too—almost the exact length of the midi skirt I wore underneath, so it will still show a little leg below. As for midi skirts (which are having a renaissance this season), this timeless leather number deserves a mention. It would also be fantastic in the cooler months with knee-high boots, so consider it a big investment piece. I styled these with this oversized leather pouch bag (I couldn't resist its giant chain strap) and made this look feel a little preppy by wearing a thick, velvet headband. If you want to make it feel more contemporary, slick your hair back in a low bun, and you're good to go.

Style Notes: I couldn't go into Calvin Klein without trying on one of the sleek slip dresses. Despite the brand priding itself on a neutral palette, pops of colour like this cobalt blue make the occasional appearance. This hue has been a huge trend in the last 12 months, looking sublime against monochrome and silver/grey tones. The low back and spaghetti straps mean this number is an elegant choice for special events such as weddings, but wearing it with sandals and this "ludicrously capacious" bag and bucket hat gives it a casual edge. If there's one thing that gives me joy, it's being able to genuinely style a dress down or elevate it for a multitude of circumstances.

Style Notes: Those that know me will tell you how obsessed I am with short suits. Each year, I count down the days to April, which I consider the official start of Short-Suit Season. Bridging the gap between contemporary-cool and chic, a tailored short paired with a matching blazer has an androgynous, sporty feel that's a welcome alternative to floral maxi dresses that are often a go-to in warmer weather. Depending on what's in your diary for the day, dress this particular one up or down to suit (pun intended). If you're wanting a more relaxed vibe, look to sneakers, open-toed sandals and a cap. (Maybe even remove the blazer belt.) But if you're seeking something more sophisticated, opt for a slingback and cinch in the waist.

Style Notes: A monogrammed belt is an easy and obvious way to make an ensemble look expensive, but ensure the rest of the look is pared back to keep it understated. Instead of other logos, gaudy prints or colours, look to contrasting textures such as this silk shirt with twill tailored shorts. Sometimes, the secret is to keep it simple, so I've gone all black so the warm ivory of the shirt can really sing.

As we transition from a cold, wet and rather grey winter into an occasionally sunny but often drizzly spring, we look to key layering pieces that can be worn several different ways. Of course, there's a plethora of jacket options for this time of year—a leather jacket is a personal favourite, and everyone loves a trench coat—but today, we're making a case for the blazer.

This look has transitional capsule wardrobe written all over it! Twill trousers are such a staple for weird weather days. Simply swapping your shoes and removing the blazer makes a March outfit feel appropriate for May. This Calvin Klein vest top is made with 91% sustainable modal, and the super-soft fabric seamlessly fits on the body like a second skin, making it easy to tuck into trousers without any visible creases. (An essential part to elevating staples is ensuring they fit your body correctly.)

In case you missed it, sheer is one of the biggest trends for spring 23. But admittedly, sometimes sheer mesh is difficult to elevate. Make way for this ribbed dress, which is made with an Ottoman knit fabric, so it feels luxe and polished. You don't need me to tell you that the ribbing designed in a vertical direction helps to elongate the silhouette, and the slip dress that comes with it makes it appropriate for any occasion. Swap out these sandals and this ultra-soft leather shoulder bag for a clutch, heels and a lipstick, and this dress becomes a strong contender in the "wedding guest dress" category.

Next up: denim. It's something we all know Calvin Klein does so well. This high-waisted silhouette with a flare is great with a cropped jacket as it showcases the natural waistline unlike oversized blazers that can swamp. For underneath, I selected a vest top in this beige hue, a warmer alternative to white. (I can never keep them fresh for very long.) For accessories, I went sleek and sophisticated with a shoulder bag and pointed mules, elevating the jeans to feel office or dinner appropriate.

Calvin Klein appreciates a neutral colour palette. Soft beiges, navy and occasional pops of bold colour (I hear mustard and cobalt blue have just hit the store floors) help balance out the monochromatic scheme that the brand is known for. Whilst we love all-black dressing (especially on those days when you have to go straight to your evening plans from work), it can be hard to make an all-black outfit feel interesting. The answer to this problem is texture and finer details. This coordinating skirt and top have a fish net overlay that attracts the eye and adds an element of unexpected interest. This netting paired with the cropped blazer gives an edge to your usual "skirt and matching top" outfit. My tip: For a more casual feel, drape the jacket over the shoulders.

Perhaps I've saved the best for last—because a two-piece suit never fails. These tailored trousers obviously look like they were made for this jacket, but then, they were made for it! The wide leg feels very now, and I love how the trousers sit on the waist just above where the jacket ends. This silhouette is just so flattering and comfortable, which is exactly what we can expect from a premium brand such as Calvin Klein, who has always excelled in tailoring. Whether it's for work or play, this two-piece will always work.

Ever since I entered my 30s a few years ago, I’ve started to feel much more confident in knowing my own style. I went into the store with the challenge of pulling together some timeless outfits perfect for the transition from winter to spring and through the rest of the year as well. And honestly, it really wasn’t a challenge at all. I managed to assemble the ultimate elevated spring capsule in just six simple outfits (including the perfect oversized trench coat and some very elegant relaxed tailoring). In my opinion, having a great edit of light jackets is the key to dressing successfully during the transitional seasons of spring and autumn. Paired with a mix of tailoring, soft layers and refined accessories, the bomber jacket is suddenly elevated from streetwear to something all the more elegant and modern. With this look, I wanted to prove that a bomber is an extremely versatile piece that can take you from the office to evening drinks to casual weekends—just switch between heels and trainers.

This Calvin Klein collection impressed me in its entirety, but I have to say it was the tailoring, and especially the suiting, that I would recommend investing in. I tend to avoid colour as a rule, but if there’s ever a time to incorporate some tonal pastels, it’s spring. This subtle apricot felt more like a neutral that would add a fresh dimension to my existing palette of creams, beiges and greys. And I’d happily have walked straight out of the shop in this ultra-soft coat.

I also want to take a moment to highlight the quality and fit of the Calvin Klein collection, which impressed me so much, especially when it came to this layered suit-and-coat combo. The fabrics felt incredibly elevated and much more expensive than their mid-range price point. Everything draped beautifully and fit true to size across the collection. I’m between a size 8 and 10 and sized down to an 8 in most items. This gave a flattering fit around around the waist, but the pieces still maintained a modern slouch that feels so relevant. Right now, it’s really hard to find pieces on the market that have both of these features—trust me.

This look may be simple, but to me, it totally epitomises the iconic Calvin Klein look: classic, wearable staples underpinned by sensuality and modern elegance. It’s a combination that I know would meet my needs for so many occasions. It’s easy and effortless but still incredibly chic—basically everything I want from my wardrobe heroes. I also love the refined detailing of the Calvin Klein logo printed on the sleeve of this blouse. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a simple outfit feel expensive!

I’m only 5’2”, so I’d opt to have my trouser lengths shortened slightly, but I did love how cool they felt puddled around trainers and with flashes of pointed-toe shoes appearing as they are here.

Before my store visit, I’d already heard murmurs across the industry about how good Calvin Klein’s new oversized trench coat was. Of course, I had to try it for myself. And while I was in the store, so many other women came in and made a beeline for this classic piece. Yes, it’s oversized, and I even went a couple of sizes down so that it didn’t completely swamp me (the downside of being petite). But if you’ve been searching for a modern version of this spring staple that feels expensive and directional in order to elevate your T-shirt-and-jeans outfits, look no further.

I couldn’t try on Calvin Klein’s collection without a nod to the ’90s, especially when it’s such a huge trend and looks to be going absolutely nowhere. Cargo pants may be all over the high street (and runways) right now, but I love these trousers that feel like a subtler, more sophisticated take on the trend. Running with the theme, I paired them with this buttery-soft, cropped leather jacket, which is so luxe I wouldn’t have been surprised to find another zero on end of the price. It fits quite small, so I sized up here to keep it a little slouchier on the shoulders and then added this architectural shoulder bag that caught my eye the moment I walked into the store.

I'm a self-confessed dress avoider, so it's unusual for me to really love an outfit that doesn't involve trousers. However, there's no denying how versatile and useful a great ribbed-knit dress is in a capsule wardrobe. So for the sake of the piece (and for all you dress people out there), I thought I would try this style on to see what I thought. Honestly, I surprised myself with how much I liked it, and I may or may not have been convinced by the ease of throwing on a single item in the morning and having a perfectly formed outfit. It felt feminine but with an edge, and I could see myself wearing it so much with these chunky (read: extremely comfortable) sandals in spring or with knee-high boots in autumn and winter—surely the sign of a capsule wardrobe essential.

Naturally, having never gotten the chance to truly experience '90s fashion, I've become a smidge obsessed with trying to re-create looks from the era, whether that finds me wearing linen trousers and a waistcoat à la Hermès from S/S 99 or a low-rise, knee-length skirt and tall boots inspired by Philosophy's S/S 00 show. Luckily, there's no shortage of outfit possibilities when you have an entire decade and thousands of covetable pieces to work with. 

Ahead, see how I go about bringing runway looks from the best decade in fashion—we're all entitled to our opinions—into 2022. 

I swear, my Pinterest board for spring 2022 includes every single look from this S/S 99 Hermès collection, which, in a nutshell, is the coastal grandmother trend before Diane Keaton ever caught Jack Nicholson rummaging through her gorgeous Hamptons kitchen in Something's Gotta Give. From white linen trousers and crisp button-down shirts to cashmere maxi skirts and waistcoat suits, the late '90s lineup could just as easily showcase on a runway in 2022. But because it's from the '90s, it's just, well, better. 

To bring my Pins to life, I started with a tan waistcoat from every fashion girl's go-to for chic tailoring: The Frankie Shop. Underneath it, I added a white muscle tee and then paired the duo with COS linen trousers that I've already told practically everyone I know about. To top off the minimalist re-creation, I threw on a '90s-esque pair of Le Specs (recently worn by Hailey Bieber) and Fendi Match sneakers, which simply jelled too well with the color scheme to skip.

If you love pastels anywhere near as much as I do, then you simply must scroll through Calvin Klein's S/S 96 collection, which in addition to including baby-soft shades of blue, yellow, and pink, also features the prettiest maxi slip dresses I've ever laid eyes on. Modeled on the likes of Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista, the spring collection is surprisingly perfect for the fall season ahead, with pastels and maxi lengths making an unexpected rise to the top of our autumnal wishlists. 

After staring at the slip dresses in Calvin Klein's S/S 96 collection for hours, I couldn't help but purchase one for my own wardrobe. It didn't take long for me to discover this tank-style option from L'Agence, which is one of my longtime go-tos for anything silky. For me, personally, slip dresses are the easiest of all the different dress styles that are trendy right now, especially when they're extra long like this one. Paired with nothing but sandals and some simple jewelry, the silhouette speaks for itself—no effort necessary.

Though Philosophy's S/S 00 collection wasn't shoppable until the new millennium, it made its debut at the tail end of 1999, allowing it to slip itself into my '90s aesthetic by the skin of its teeth. Designed by then creative director and founder Alberta Ferretti (today, the brand is helmed by Lorenzo Serafini), the collection was the perfect mix of youthful femininity and utilitarianism, with frilly knee-length skirts, gingham corset tops, and cotton hot pants paired with hefty rain boots (not unlike the ones from Serafini's S/S 21 show) showing up throughout the 83-look collection. 

Though my love for rain boots is strong, I decided to re-create my version of Ferretti's S/S 00 collection for Philosophy sans the practical shoe style, opting instead to go with my favorite patent-leather knee-high boots from & Other Stories. In the process of putting my own spin on the late-'90s collection, I replaced the brand's mismatching top-and-skirt duo for Danielle Guizio's white Paloma set, which, after being worn by Bella Hadid, went viral and sold out earlier this summer. Similar in shape, the hyper-delicate set features a lace-and-ruffle corset-like top and a matching low-rise slip skirt that ends just above the knee. And don't fret—it's officially been restocked (for now).

According to Vogue, Ann Demeulemeester's S/S 98 collection, titled Corps Humain (Human Body) was one of the designer's all-time favorites. The collection, which was dually inspired by Dadaism and a poem by Allen Ginsberg called Footnote to Howl, is most known for featuring tank tops with the word "Holy" written across the front that Demeulemeester handed out to all 2000 guests. Perhaps my favorite look, though, was the one featured above—a floor-length, bodycon dress that despite being fairly simple, has stuck with me ever since I first saw it in a Pinterest board years ago. 

I couldn't quite find a dress worthy of re-creating that one coveted Demeulemeester original, however, I saw this two-piece set by Paris Georgia, and immediately noticed the similarities. I would normally never gravitate towards yellow just because of my skin tone, but the shape and drapiness of this bodysuit and skirt together made me overlook the shade (which I surprisingly ended up loving). The bodysuit is completely backless, making the look even more appropriate for a re-creation of Demeulemeester's iconic Human Body collection.

Given how much contact my shoes make with the streets of New York, I have a rule that I very rarely (perhaps only in the name of Prada) break: I never spend more than $150 on footwear. The only problem is that my tastes, especially when it comes to shoes, don't exactly align with my self-appointed budget. At least, they don't when I shop from anywhere other than Nordstrom.

Despite what you might think about the department store, it houses just as many $1000 items as it does $150 ones. In fact, in the under-$100 bracket alone, Nordstrom carries more than 7000 shoe options, many of which look far more expensive than they are. And that's without the rest of my allotted shoe fund. So, really, my $150 budget isn't actually a problem at all. Or rather, it isn't when I have the 38 Nordstrom pairs below at my disposal.
