You see, a 2026 fragrancehead has a lot more industry knowledge, Blanc tells me during a top-secret brand preview back in June. Their palates are wider than they were in the '90s, which ultimately gave her and Mancini more freedom to play with the compositions in the updated collection.

Today's fragrance connoisseur is also game for experimentation. You may have been a Dream or Grass gal in the '90s, but now, you might feel inclined to layer multiple potions (Heaven and Dream mingle quite well) for a unique scent experience. It's like curating a capsule wardrobe—versatile classics you can mix and match however you see fit.

The new line can be yours on July 30, but if you're wondering which bottle you should snag, scroll ahead. I've been testing the full collection for weeks ahead of its debut, so here's everything you need to know about the notes, sillage, and how each measures up to the OG.

Dream

To many, Dream is the most nostalgic of the bunch. Fresh and clean yet sensual, the scent was widely known as the signature of Gap. Modernizing such a beloved hero is no easy feat, which is why Blanc kept the aura of the fragrance—its freesia heart—and introduced new, complex florals like orange flower absolute and neroli essential oil. "One is an extraction, and the other one is a distillation," she explains during a brand presentation. "Neroli is really fresh, citrusy, and vibrant; the orange flower gives depth to the fragrance." She also decided to add more woods, namely cedarwood, to create a better sillage. "Strength is very important today. The consumer wants something more long-lasting," she notes. Still, the effect is super clean and skin-like without smelling too soapy. It's the crisp white T-shirt of fragrance.

Grass

While Dream is undoubtedly iconic, Gap Grass is arguably the most recognizable. Love it or loathe it, you're certainly hit with that earthy "fresh-cut lawn" aroma at first whiff. For the 2026 version, Mancini wanted to keep that call to nature but make it more complex with different facets of green notes—green mandarin, which reminds her of sun-warmed skin; violet leaf, which she says has a "touch of cucumber wetness"; vetiver, which is super grounding; and matcha tea through DSM-Firmenich's proprietary Smell-the-Taste technology. "We partner with flavorists to have accords that they use in [food] for perfumery. That's something we didn't have 30 years ago," she explains.

I'd say Grass is the biggest departure from the original bottle. Rest assured, it's still unmistakably green, but the '90s scent really smelled like, well, grass. This updated launch amps up the freshness instead of leaning on that crunchy, earthy quality. "I wanted something that was meditative, calming, and really felt like well-being," Mancini shares.

Heaven

Fans of the original Heaven scent likely remember its musky, aldehydic aroma. A best seller for the brand, it relied on lots of crisp florals that, to Mancini, actually smelled a bit too dated for the 2026 market. Still, she loved its cocooning musks and decided to amplify them here, giving the juice a softer, more sensual composition to evoke bliss and comfort. "We have new musks now, 30 years later, that give great structure and longevity," she explains. She also introduced a proprietary amber molecule that's super strong and long-lasting ("I like to say it's a beast-mode molecule," she adds), along with solar vanilla for creaminess, pear for watery freshness, and cardamom for effervescence. The result is meant to evoke weightlessness, awe, and wonder, like how you might feel gazing up at the sky. For those who like to layer, you'll be delighted to know that Heaven plays nicely with pretty much any of the other Gap players, though it particularly shines with Dream or Om.

Om

Blanc worked on Om in 1996, and at the time, she says the unisex scent was rather avant-garde. "For me, it's [like] the effortlessly cool downtown girl," she shares. Notes of incense and labanum weren't popular players on the scene, and the new potion amplifies that rich, grounded profile with ginger, sandalwood, and cedar. According to Blanc, it's skin-like with an edge—soft, mysterious, and sensual. "If Gap Dream is a white T-shirt, this is a white T-shirt with a leather jacket," she notes.

Twist my arm, and I'd tell you that Om is my favorite of the five blends. I love a cool, twisted scent you can't quite put your finger on, and Om evokes that energy while remaining soft and understated, true to the Gap aesthetic.

Harmony

If you don't recognize Harmony in the original Gap lineup, don't worry—you're not forgetting a secret fan favorite. Here, we have an entirely new scent to round out the 2026 collection, something vibrant and energetic thanks to apricot, mandarin, gardenia, tuberose, and jasmine with a touch of gourmand amber. "Gourmands bring something very joyful and [provide] tension with the fruits. They go well together," Blanc shares.

The blend has a playful, youthful effect that evokes a piece of fresh fruit bursting with flavor, which is actually quite trendy in today's fragrance market, Blanc adds, especially in the luxury space. Now, sweet, fruity fragrances go hand in hand with elegance, which is exactly what she wanted to capture with this beautifully juicy blend. I'd say she absolutely nailed it. I'm not normally a fruity-fragrance person, but Harmony has a subtlety to it that makes it more mysterious and intoxicating. Again, it's that Gap signature!

I consider myself someone who is pretty low-maintenance with their hair. I don't like spending ages with a hair tool when styling my lengths, and so I'm always drawn to low-effort hairstyles that not only look effortless, but are also effortless to create, too. And if you're like me and the rest of the internet, you too have been swooning over Zendaya's The Odyssey press tour hair moments, which have been featuring some stunning Grecian-inspired waves that I've been desperate to re-create. And as we're in the height of summer, now is the perfect time to try "S" waves. I spoke with a top hairstylist to break down exactly how to achieve this low-effort style for summer.

How to Do S Waves

"S waves are a looser, more luxe take on the classic mermaid waves and the perfect style for summer," says hairstylist and GHD ambassador Patrick Wilson. "It tells the story of an 'I just got out of the sea' glossy look that looks effortless and summery. The style is all about having luxuriously deep waves with a shaken-out finish for an uber fresh, cool look," he says. "It is all about creating a subtle, wavy texture rather than curl. This is a flatter wave that doesn't have the volume or width of a traditional curly blow-dry, making it ideal for a more modern, sleek look. It’s a great look that can be created on all hair lengths."

What You'll Need

To create your S waves, you'll need a good heat protector, a pair of hair straighteners, a wide-toothed comb and a texturising spray or salt spray.

1. Prep Hair

You'll want to start on straight, dry hair and use a good heat protector before styling your hair to shield your lengths from heat damage.

2. The Technique

Wilson tells me that you can use a triple waver; however, a hair straightener can achieve the same look and gives you more control over the wave. "Personally, I like to use the GHD Chronos Hair Straightener (£299) to add bends and kinks in the hair using an S-bend motion," he says.

"Place the straightener at your eye level and move the styler down an inch and flip it in the opposite direction, creating an 'S' shape in the hair," says Wilson. "When starting the bends and waves in your hair, don’t start too high or into your parting; otherwise, this creates too much height at the root and looks more done than it needs to," he says.

3. Wave Hair

Then, repeat the motion throughout the rest of your hair. "Continue this motion back and forth, leaving the ends straight for a more undone finish," says Wilson. You can experiment with the size of each section you're waving. I find larger sections will give a softer effect, whereas smaller sections give a more piecey texture, which works well on face-framing layers.

4. Brush Out

Next, you can dishevel the waves with a wide-toothed comb to make them look even more effortless. "Let the hair cool and set before brushing out; otherwise, the style won't stay," says Wilson.

5. Add Product

"Finish with a spritz of hairspray and follow with Hair by Sam McKnight Cool Girl Texture Mist for a ‘done’ yet ever so slightly dishevelled, effortless look," says Wilson.

6. The Result

And there you have your S waves. For second-day hair, Wilson recommends misting through a salt spray, which is the perfect product to revive the waves and add grit and texture.

Sure, a bold chrome or bright pastel manicure always works well at this time of year, but if there is one look that keeps stopping my scroll, it's a crisp white nail design. Crisp, clean and endlessly versatile, the nail trend feels more elevated than ever, with soft milky finishes, minimalist floral detail and fashion-forward French tips.

The key to making the look feel expensive rather than stark lies in the application, says Hannah Taylor, nail tech and brand ambassador for The GelBottle Inc. "White polish can be one of the trickiest shades to apply because it's so highly pigmented, but the key is using thin, even coats rather than trying to achieve full coverage in one."

She recommends applying two to three thin layers, allowing each coat to settle before the next. "A smoothing base coat also makes a huge difference, as white highlights every ridge or imperfection on the nail. Finishing with a glossy top coat helps create a crisp, salon-quality finish," she adds.

When choosing a design, Taylor recommends keeping things understated. "When I’m creating a chic white manicure, I always think about balance. Rather than opting for a solid block of white on every nail. Look for designs with negative space, French tips or accents that elevate the look without overwhelming it."

As for shades, she clarifies that soft milky whites often feel more modern than stark bright whites. "I'm a fan of Milky BIAB by TGB, which now also comes in Hard BIAB formula too for extra strength." Finally, she says, "Choose a design that complements your nail shape and length as this will always give the most timeless, expensive-looking result."

As an esthetician, one of the questions I'm asked more than almost any other is, "How do I get rid of my pores?" It's an understandable concern—after all, smooth, poreless skin is everywhere on social media—but it's also based on one of the biggest misconceptions in skincare. The truth is, you can't actually get rid of your pores. Pores are tiny openings in the skin that allow sebum (oil) and sweat to reach the surface, helping to keep skin healthy and functioning as it should. Every single person has them, and despite what many products claim, they can't be opened, closed or erased.

With that said, pores can absolutely appear larger or more noticeable. Genetics and lifestyle play a huge role in determining pore size, but excess oil production, congestion, sun damage, and a loss of collagen and elasticity can also make them look more prominent. As dermatologist Sonia Khorana explains, people with oily skin often find that "their pores may be more visible or enlarged," alongside increased shine, blackheads, and breakouts. Excess sebum is largely influenced by hormones and genetics, although stress and environmental factors can also contribute.

Fortunately, while you can't shrink a pore permanently, you can make it appear much less noticeable. Keeping pores clear with ingredients like salicylic acid is one part of the puzzle, but it's far from the only solution. Supporting collagen production with ingredients such as retinoids and peptides can help improve the skin's firmness over time, while well-hydrated skin reflects light more evenly, making pores appear softer and less defined. Pore-minimising toners can be particularly effective because they combine exfoliating, oil-balancing and hydrating ingredients in one easy step, helping skin look smoother and more refined with consistent use.

What to Look for

The best pore-minimising toners don't actually minimise the size of your pores; they minimise the things that make them look more noticeable. Which formula is right for you depends largely on what's causing your pores to stand out in the first place.

If excess oil and congestion are your main concerns, look for salicylic acid (BHA), one of the gold-standard ingredients for oily skin. Because it's oil-soluble, it can penetrate inside the pore to dissolve excess sebum and dead skin cells that stretch pores and lead to blackheads. Khorana recommends salicylic acid for helping to regulate sebum production, alongside niacinamide, zinc and retinoids.

Niacinamide is another excellent ingredient to prioritise. As well as helping to regulate oil production, it supports the skin barrier and can improve overall skin texture, making pores appear less obvious over time. If your skin is oily but also sensitive, gentler exfoliating acids such as lactic acid or mandelic acid can offer similar smoothing benefits with a lower risk of irritation.

Hydration is equally important, even if your skin is oily. "Remember not to be very harsh with your skin as it can disrupt the skin barrier and lead to skin dryness and sensitivity," says Khorana. Ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol and ceramides help maintain healthy hydration levels, while supporting the skin barrier. This is particularly important because dehydrated skin can often compensate by producing even more oil, making pores appear more noticeable.

How to Use Pore-Minimising Toners

Pore-minimising toners should be applied after cleansing and before serums and moisturiser. Most formulas are designed to be swept over clean skin using your hands or a cotton pad, although always follow the brand's instructions, as some exfoliating formulas are intended for less frequent use.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is overusing exfoliating toners in the hope of seeing faster results. Whilst ingredients like salicylic acid and AHAs can be incredibly effective, using them too often can disrupt the skin barrier, leading to irritation, dehydration and even increased oil production. If you're using an exfoliating toner, start by applying it two to three times a week before gradually increasing if your skin tolerates it well. Hydrating or barrier-supporting toners, on the other hand, can usually be used morning and evening. Whatever formula you choose, consistency—and daily SPF—is what will deliver the best long-term results.

It's not uncommon for specific skincare ingredients to become the object of internet obsession. Remember when skincare brands first introduced hyaluronic acid as a hydrating hero? Or when Instagram initially caught on to the do-it-all nature of niacinamide? Don't get me wrong. These skincare ingredients are highly effective, and often deserve the hype. However, they're not exactly new or unheard of. In most cases, experts have been studying, using, and recommending them for years before the internet places a big, blinding spotlight on them. That's why I rarely get caught up in the hype—at least not before I do my due diligence by conducting research, consulting experts, and personally putting it to the test.

With that said, there's one ingredient that genuinely excites me because 1) I've seen its effects on my own skin, and 2) I don't think we've realized its full potential. I'm talking about exosomes—a regenerative ingredient lauded for anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and collagen-producing benefits...not to mention hair-thickening potential. They're not new to the aesthetic industry (they’ve been used in professional clinics and in-office treatments for some time), but they're still only found in a few OTC skincare products.

My Review

First things first. I have sensitive, redness-prone skin, and as someone in my early-30s, I'm starting to see fine lines appear around my eyes (these have gotten significantly worse after getting Botox injections in my glabellar lines, AKA the '11' lines between my eyebrows. Since I can't furrow my brows when I squint, my outer eye muscles compensate, which has led to a slight 'crow's feet' effect. I hoped this serum would improve that area of my skin specifically, although I also hoped I'd see a visible difference in my 'tech neck,' too. (Since I spend all day sitting at a computer, I've definitely lost elasticity and developed fine lines in that area as well.)

I've only been using the serum for three weeks, but I can honestly say I see a difference in the aforementioned fine lines and in my skin as a whole. My complexion looks smoother, plumper, and generally just fresher—like I'm not stressed about current affairs, short on sleep, etc. etc. That goes for my neck especially. The lines are minimized and my neck looks slightly tighter to me. But that's the beauty of exosome-based skincare products. How to Build a Skincare Routine for Mature Skin

Whenever I'm building a skincare routine for clients, I follow one simple principle: every product should have a clear purpose. Rather than layering multiple products that all claim to do the same thing, I focus on creating a balanced routine that protects the skin during the day and supports repair overnight.

In the morning, the priority is prevention. Lisa Eldridge MBE is one of the world's top makeup artists who has worked with just about every famous face you could name, so I never doubted that this formula wouldn't be anything short of exceptional. Eldridge is renowned for her natural-looking approach to the complexion, preferring to place foundation and complexion products only in the places they're really needed rather than masking the skin. And she has totally bottled this ethos in this skin tint.

Inside the pebble-shaped bottle is a tint with a water-like consistency, which immediately sinks into the skin, offering a sheer, lightweight finish that's akin to a second skin and does so without highlighting enlarged pores or fine lines.

The formula contains hydrating ingredients such as squalane, glycerin and prickly pear and sunflower seed oils. As someone with oily-leaning skin, I was initially worried it would be too heavy on my skin, but it sits beautifully. I love a naturally radiant finish, and this skin tint delivers just that. It's neither too dewy nor too matte, but just looks like skin that has a healthy glow. This would be perfect for those with dry or combination skin, but is still matte enough for those with oilier skin who favour a more glowy finish.

The Finish

What I love about this skin tint is that it offers the perfect amount of coverage without feeling like you're wearing anything at all. It blurs redness and pigmentation, yet it still lets my freckles peek through. Of course, the sheer finish won't offer enough coverage to hide inflamed acne or redness, but it's perfect for day-to-day makeup when you want to even your skin, and it makes a great base to then apply a little concealer in just the places that require it. It's the ultimate "no makeup" makeup skin tint.

It wears so well throughout the day, whether worn alone on top of SPF, or finished with concealer and powder. The finish isn't so dewy that it disappears, yet not too matte that it clings to any dryness. I'm prone to oiliness around my nose and chin, yet this holds up throughout the day and never turns oily or cakey—a little powder on top sets it perfectly.

The shade range is expansive, covering a range of undertones across different shades so that you can find a good match for your skin tone. I'm writing this review in the height of summer, where I have a bit more of a tan at the moment, and shade T7 has been a great match for my complexion, which has neutral undertones. In short, I'll never be without a bottle of this skin tint in my makeup bag.

Still, the loose ends can frizz and tangle, especially when there's salty, humid air involved. As someone old enough to have dipped my toe into Y2K beauty trends the first time around, I've got a soft spot for the pastel streaks, chunky highlights and dip-dyed ends that defined the era. After watching '90s fashion, noughties beauty and even our favourite TV shows make a comeback, it was only a matter of time before the hair colour trends followed. From ribbon highlights to candy-coloured pastels, the nostalgic looks I once begged my hairdresser for are back—and this time, they're chicer than ever.

Colourist Harriet Muldoon at Larry King South Kensington agrees. "At the beginning of the year we [witnessed a big] 2016 throwback, and I think it began to tease us with the nostalgia of pastel hair," she tells me.

Alongside flip phones and frosted lip gloss, the Y2K era was all about exaggeration and making iconic moves. "For colour, this was a really major period. The use of vivid colours and unique section patterns made it so exciting to be a colourist," adds Muldoon. Recalling the signature shades, she says, 'For technique, we were looking at chunky highlights, strong section patterns and the beginning of the dip dye, and it ranged from vivid colours to pastels."

As Muldoon tells me, pastels were a huge Y2K trend, and bringing the colour palette back only weeks ago was none other than Kylie Jenner. Famed for her bold hair colour choices, we love this soft pastel take on long locks, proving the nostalgic trend is making a stylish comeback for a new generation.

Sonic silver blonde hair was a big late '90s, early '00s trend, but as Reed puts it, "We’re seeing a real shift in the way people think about grey hair. Rather than feeling the need to cover every silver strand, clients are embracing their natural colour and asking how they can make it look intentional, healthy and beautifully lived in."

This isn’t about letting grey simply grow out. It’s about working with it. "Through thoughtful colour placement, glossing and soft blending, natural silver becomes part of the overall colour story, adding depth, light and dimension," adds Reed.

The copper of Y2K yore has evolved from a bold fashion statement into something much more wearable. Instead of bright orange reds, velvet copper combines cinnamon, chestnut and soft auburn tones to create richness and sophistication. "Clients still love warmth, but they want elegance over intensity. Cowboy copper feels luxurious because it's soft, multi-dimensional and catches the light beautifully," reveals Curran.

It's best suited to fair through medium skin tones wanting warmth without dramatic commitment. "Think Sadie Sink, Emma Stone and Kelly Reilly," he adds.

Golden blonde ruled the early 2000s, with glossy, sun-kissed shades becoming the signature look of stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Cat Deeley and Sienna Miller. But unlike the brassy, high-maintenance blondes of the era, today's revival is softer and richer. "This isn’t the gold of the early 2000s. Think refined honey, soft caramel, buttercream blondes and beautifully balanced golden ribbons that reflect light naturally," reveals Curran.

As for who it's best suited to? "Anyone wanting to add warmth and brightness to their complexion. It’s particularly flattering on mature skin as it restores softness and luminosity," he says.

And this, of course, extends to my blushers, opting for pared-back hues like brown and burgundy over bold shades each and every time. However, luckily for me, there’s a new blush trend on the radar of chic people that perfectly strikes the balance between feeling fresh for 2026 and timeless enough to fit seamlessly into my classic makeup routine. Just be aware that a little goes a very long way and the product dries down rather quickly, so blend it out immediately to avoid patchiness.

As someone with dry skin, I’m very critical of powder blushes and their ability not to look cakey or patchy on my cheeks. However, BareMinerals’ Gen Nude Powder Blush was an instant hit with me. Growing up, my hair was poker straight, so there was a whole period of time that I suddenly had curly hair and could not figure it out for the life of me, which is why I'm really happy to have Tresemmé on my side today. They make it so easy, so I don't really have to think about it. I just go in with their three new products in the Bouncy Curls line, and it takes no time at all. I can just go about my day. But I've struggled—learning the curly-hair [routine] later in life with no help was difficult.

We just spoke with your costar Stephen Kalyn (Dean Di Laurentis) about season 2. How is filming going so far?

It's great! We're having so much fun. We're all very busy, and we're just really proud of the show. We're working on episodes 3 and 4 right now, and these scripts are really impressive. It's just nice to be back with everybody—the cast, the crew, and our creators. It's been a blast. We love shooting the show.

Kalyn told me that you once called him on a day off just to tell him about your high school football experience.

Oh, I call him randomly every single day, and he calls me too! We talk all the time; we just get along so well. He's from the suburbs of Toronto. I'm from the suburbs of Chicago. We have similar trajectories and stories. We're the same age, we started acting at the same time, and obviously, this show happened to us together. But yeah, I gave a 30-minute soliloquy about my high school football team. He was like, "Okay," and honestly, I've heard him talk about hockey and his hockey teams for hours on end, so whatever!

That's how friendship works! How does this season—both the filming process and show itself—feel different than season 1?

It doesn't really feel all that different. It's almost the same crew, so it was kind of like we took a break and came back home, you know?

Obviously, we're aware of the attention the show has gotten, but that doesn't really affect us while we're working, so the days on set feel very familiar. It almost feels like no time passed at all between season 1 and season 2, which has been really nice. I'd say the biggest difference is that when we're shooting on location, there are more [fans] around.

If you could describe season 2 in three words, what would they be?

Ensemble, love, and friendship. I haven't had time to think of a good three yet, but those three are definitely in there—lemme tell ya.

They definitely count. It must have been nice to jump back into filming after such a crazy press run of a summer.

It was. It was so nice to have work and to be all together right after the press run and the release of the show. We got to come back into our bubble. For me—and I think for them too—having work is a real privilege.

How does it feel to have your career explode the way it did this summer—to not only be in such a famous role but to also land campaigns with brands like Tresemmé?

It's been really interesting. I think a lot of actors hope for the audience that we've garnered now. I feel really honored to have new fans of my work. I'm really grateful for the opportunity that it's presented me—when it comes to my next jobs, when it comes to partnering with Tresemmé and their great line of Bouncy Curls products, and getting to talk about my hair. It's really nice, and it's been an adjustment, but it's been cool. [But] my day-to-day is pretty much the same. All the things I'm seeing with my eyes are no different.

Since you've been acting for a minute now, is there a beauty hack that you learned on set that changed the way you get ready?

Eye patches go a long way for me. I'm a tired boy most of the time, so letting those soak in is totally cool. When it comes to my hair, turning my head upside down and scrunching is essential to getting those curls right. You've got to do your hair upside down a lot of the time.

And if I want my hair to look good, I usually have to use a diffuser somewhere in the process. If I want to completely air-dry my curls, they end up looking incredible, but that takes so much time. Once you get the Defining Cream in there and put a little mousse in, give it that shape, then go in with the diffuser, and set it and forget it, it's great.

I know you're busy shooting Off Campus until early fall, but do you have any other upcoming projects that you can share with us?

I do, but not [ones] that I can share. There's some really fun stuff that I'm looking at with my team right now, and hopefully, we'll get season 3 for Off Campus. In the time between, I'm really looking forward to going to work and shooting some features. There's some fun stuff I can't say, but I'm really just excited to be on set more. I want to spend all my time on set—literally all my time. So hopefully, that's what I'll get to do.

I'm curious—do you guys see the TikTok edits? Are you sending funny comments to each other? Can you laugh at everything?

We definitely can laugh at it. I'm not on TikTok. I'm not on the internet, really, unless it's, like, woodworking videos on YouTube. But there are a lot of pink-helmet videos that go around that we really enjoy. People have really given the pink helmet the life that it's deserved online. I've seen some of the edits of the show, and a lot of them are extremely impressive, [even] just from an editing standpoint. I've seen plenty of it. It's all fun, weird, and cool. It's just wild, honestly.

There's been a lot happening this summer. Between the World Cup, your breakout show, and filming, there's a lot to obsess over. What are you obsessed with right now?

I'm so predictable: It's Chicago White Sox baseball. The Cubs and the Sox are both doing really well right now. There's a lot of good baseball happening on the South Side. I'm obsessed with driving my car. I bought this 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser from Japan. It's this little diesel engine with four-wheel drive, and I love driving it so much. Vancouver is a gorgeous place to drive around, and I'm also obsessed with getting eight hours of sleep whenever possible.

I hear you guys are up early doing hockey practices!

Yeah, we do a lot of boot camps. We are in the throes of filming right now, so when we're shooting, we're on the ice for 12 to 16 hours, which ends up really hurting your feet but being good practice.

The shooting schedule, on top of other fun stuff we have going on outside the show, keeps us pretty busy, so when I know I have a night when I can get eight hours of sleep, I get so excited. I'll have, like, 100 dreams and try to write them all down in the morning.

Speaking of dreams, your life is opening up in big ways these days. What are some new personal and career goals that you've set for yourself?

I really want to wear multiple hats at some point as a filmmaker. I never really knew when the next step toward directing would be, and right now, I'm realizing that if that's going to happen, it won't be in a way that I foresee. … I really just want to go to work as an actor, build out a diverse body of work, play unpredictable characters, and work in different genres and arenas, so right now, my vision is honestly the same as it's always been. I want to do things that are different from the others that I've done.

I've done a decent amount of comedy television now, and I've done some genre films, some drama. I've played in this YA space a couple of times, and I really just want to protect the vision of doing different things and work with cool filmmakers that I like. It's a pretty broad goal, but my goal is just to work. I really love being on set, so that's where I want to be.

But of all these beauty moments, it was the no-makeup makeup looks that had my attention. As I went further down the rabbit hole of my algorithm, I realized that these women may have been influenced by an even less talked-about movement that put it all into motion—brides who decided to walk down the aisle with no makeup at all.

Suddenly, I found myself coming across dozens of newlyweds who had ditched makeup in favor of skincare that enhanced their natural beauty. Admittedly, I couldn't help but notice the mixed reactions. While some people deemed going makeup-free socially unacceptable, others found themselves inspired to follow suit. Early in my research, it was obvious that there isn't a single "type" of woman who makes this kind of choice. Ahead, see how two brides with vastly different relationships to makeup came to the decision.

A true veteran in the beauty space, Stephanie Santana, known widely on social media as Glamzilla, has dedicated the last 15 years to creating beauty content. Spoiler: It paid off big time. The Toronto native engages with over five million followers across platforms daily, sharing her thoughts on the latest beauty launches and beyond.

Most might assume that going full glam on their wedding day would be a nonnegotiable for a beauty creator, yet for Glamzilla, it was a true game-time decision that came after months of makeup trials. "My dream was to have the best celebrity makeup artist do my makeup," she says. "I did trials with everyone from Patrick Ta and Danessa Myricks to Beyoncé's and Cardi B's makeup artists, and it was the most beautiful experience ever because I got to see myself through different artists' lenses."

At the time, Glamzilla had been sharing content around her bridal journey and had even pitched her wedding story to several media outlets. "A month before my wedding, I was so stressed out about it, and I looked over at my husband in the middle of the night, and I realized I was missing the whole point," she says. "[This] was a moment to celebrate the love that I have with my partner that I've been with for the last 19 years." The next day, she made the decision to cancel all the major media plans.

Then, on October 1, 2025, just hours before her wedding, she had another change of heart that left an impact not solely on her but also on the people around her at the wedding and online. She wanted to go makeup-free. Although her husband didn't know about her decision in advance, he encouraged her to do whatever made her feel like herself earlier in the wedding-planning process. "I decided to do my own makeup, but when it was time to get ready, I looked in the mirror, and I was like, 'I'm going to marry him the way I wake up to him every morning. This is the version of me my children will see in the morning.'"

Leading up to the event, Glamzilla booked Hydrafacial, brow-lamination, and lash-lift appointments. But for her wedding day, she used skincare that she knew would deliver the glow she was after. Her key products included Caudalie's face mist, Glow Recipe's Prickly Pear Serum, and Tatcha's Dewy Skin Cream. For her final touches, she applied a bit of OleHenriksen's lip treatment, L'Oréal's Infallible Brow Lamination Gel, Huda Beauty's Easy Blur Primer, and Milk Makeup's Hydro Grip Dewy Setting Spray.

Ultimately, Glamzilla found that going makeup-free didn't simply eliminate an extra step in her bridal routine. It completely transformed the way she experienced her wedding. She didn't worry about her makeup smudging or transferring throughout the ceremony, and there was liberation in being able to feel every emotion on her special day without limits or a second thought. "I was so empowered, and I felt so beautiful just being loved," she says. "It wasn't about me—it was about the moment we were going to share together. It goes beyond full-coverage makeup, eyelashes, and lipstick. It was just a celebration of the journey and the love that we are celebrating."

As a former bridal makeup artist herself, Glamzilla knows a thing or two about what drives the preferences of nearlyweds, but her own journey unlocked a new perspective. "At the end of the day, you're going to cry and laugh it off," she says. "What you want to be able to capture in those photos is the joy, the love, and the happiness." She adds that brides would come to her wanting to get the perfect makeup look, hoping it would translate flawlessly on camera for others to see. "The reality is the moment is already perfect," she says. "People saw me because I was loved and joyful, and I think that's what every bride should focus on—the feeling, not the look. I would do it over and over again, and it was really the best decision of my beauty journey."

Samantha Wills, from Ongarue, New Zealand, felt similarly about her experience. However, her relationship with makeup prior to her February 1 wedding last year was much different. The question wasn't if she should go without makeup. It was the opposite. "I'm not a makeup person, and I never have been," she says. "The thinking behind it was more of a 'Should I maybe wear some makeup because it's my wedding?'"

As a farmer, Wills was already used to skipping makeup, and in some ways, it influenced her outlook on getting glammed up to begin with. "Living this lifestyle is so raw and natural, and that's how I wanted to be walking down the aisle," she says. "I wanted my husband to see me for me."

Similar to Glamzilla, Wills booked a pre-wedding hydrodermabrasion treatment to prep her skin. For her wedding day, she stuck to skin-loving products such as Monat's Be Gentle Creamy Cleanser, Skin Revitalizing Essence, and Be Balanced Lightweight Moisturizer, to name a few. "I didn't want to be any different when I met him at the altar, and that was why I didn't wear any major makeup," she says. "I put on some fake lashes, lip gloss, and brushed my brows."

While her decision felt natural, Wills also received support from her family and bridesmaids. "I actually went to put a little bit of foundation on, and they all looked at me and said, 'No, you don't need that. You look beautiful as you are right now," she says. In hindsight, Wills believes that, had she decided otherwise, it would have added stress and made her more prone to overthinking.

Her choice didn't just create the comfort she needed. It also made it possible for her to be fully present. "It was the most amazing day," Wills says. "I didn't have any expectations, and I suppose that has a lot to do with the people I have around me. But they really allowed me to do that so that I was stress-free on the day that I'm supposed to be."

It's not uncommon for some people to look back on their wedding day and think about what they would've done differently, but for Wills, being a makeup-free bride remains one of the best choices she made. "I'm only filled with joy every time I look at the photos," she says. "There's no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision."

It's clear that the conversation around bridal beauty is evolving not only within the online community of brides-to-be reconsidering their approach but also among makeup artists. Bridal hair and makeup artists Olivia Lo and Melanie Herriot, who specialize in natural makeup, have noticed an uptick in women ditching heavy layers for light, effortless looks. "I've definitely noticed a significant shift over the past year or two," Herriot says. "Previously, foundation was part of almost every bridal application, but throughout 2025 and into 2026, I've found myself reaching for foundation less than ever before."

Lo has had a similar experience, noting that it seems less about wearing less makeup and more about wanting makeup that feels authentic to the individual. "Ultimately, I find that my brides want people to notice them before they notice the makeup," she says. "I know I've done my job well when my brides hear 'You look beautiful' rather than 'Your makeup looks beautiful.'"

Both experts have heard a wide variety of reasons for less makeup, ranging from clients not wearing it in everyday life to having a spring or summer wedding. "For years, brides were told they needed heavier makeup to ensure it showed up in photographs, but modern makeup artistry has completely dispelled that myth," Herriot says. "We now have products and techniques that allow skin to look fresh, luminous, and incredibly natural while still photographing beautifully." She also calls out that celebrity influencers such as Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie have heavily influenced the pivot to skin-focused bridal beauty.

Whether it's worth investing in a makeup artist for a full no-makeup look is truly up to each person. "I think one of the biggest misconceptions is that hiring a makeup artist is only about applying makeup," Lo says. "In reality, it's about having a professional assess your features, skin type, lighting conditions, and overall wedding aesthetic to help you feel like the best version of yourself." In addition to finding the right skincare products, Lo points out the usefulness of treatments such as facials, lasers, microneedling, and Botox early in the process so that your skin feels healthy and ready the day of.

Across the board, there's an undeniable emphasis on the importance of feeling. How do you want to feel when you're getting ready to walk down the aisle? When you're standing across from the person you'll spend the rest of your life with? When you're surrounded by your friends and family or even when you're looking back on your photos years later? There's no right answer, but whatever you land on will always be your most reliable guide.

Beauty is innately personal, but never more so than on (or right before) one’s wedding day. In the modern era, it’s not uncommon for brides to book multiple makeup trials, peruse Pinterest for the perfect manicure, and even spring for in-office procedures to look and feel their best on the big day. No matter how minimalist or maximalist it might be, bridal beauty is both a reflection and a projection of the person behind the veil.

Pre-wedding beauty rituals aren’t homogenous; they differ greatly based on culture, geography, family tradition… The list goes on. In Korea, it might look like prepping for the paebaek—a formal tea ceremony during which the bride historically wears red dots on her cheeks. In Italy, it might look like prepping the bride’s hair and skin with olive oil–infused beauty products. However, in this first-ever special wedding edition of Worldly Beauty, we’re exploring the tradition of mehndi—a South Asian prenuptial practice in which henna is applied to the bride’s hands and feet to symbolize joy, prosperity, good fortune, and new beginnings.

The centuries-old tradition, which is also commonly practiced in the Middle East and North Africa, roots modern brides in rich, historical pasts. They might choose motifs inspired by previous generations, weave hidden initials into the elaborate artwork, or collaborate on contemporary designs. Regardless, it’s more than a bridal beauty tradition; it’s a celebration to mark one of life’s most meaningful milestones, and we’re exploring it with the help of Priyanka Ganjoo, founder and CEO of Kulfi Beauty.

Henna is a plant that’s native to the tropical climates of South Asia, Africa, and Northern Australia. When a paste is applied to the skin, it temporarily stains it with a deep reddish-brown color that will fade with time. It’s been used for mehndi (the name refers to both the ceremony and the designs themselves) for thousands of years. These days, it’s often applied ahead of major holidays, festivals, and, of course, weddings.

Ganjoo says that long before vows are exchanged, friends and family gather for the bridal mehndi ritual. Artists will unfurl intricate designs across the hands and feet of the bride and other close family members. Traditionally, the bride gets the most extensive designs, whereas close friends and family members will receive smaller, simpler designs.

Some mehndi ceremonies are lively, incorporating music, dancing, and laughter. Others are smaller, more reflective gatherings centered on blessing the couple before marriage. “Every family celebrates it a little differently, but it’s generally a gathering where the bride’s hands and feet are decorated with intricate henna designs surrounded by loved ones,” Ganjoo says. “For me, it represents anticipation of celebration. It’s a moment when everything slows down before the bride. You have to sit still for hours while the people closest to you laugh, dance, tell stories, and celebrate this new chapter together. It’s not just about the final design. It’s about the time spent with the people you love.”

Ganjoo says a bridal mehndi can take anywhere from three to six hours, depending on the intricacy of the designs. While the final result is aesthetically eye-catching, the real magic is in the process itself, which gives the bride and their loved ones an opportunity to pause and be present with one another. “During that time, the bride is usually surrounded by friends and family. … As many know, it can be an incredibly busy time, so having to sit still while the henna is applied naturally creates a moment to be present and soak everything in.”

Professional artists are often employed to create traditional bridal mehndi, as the intricate designs require expert-level freehand skills. However, it’s possible to apply it to oneself via store-bought stencils and kits. “Typically, the paste stays on for several hours, and many brides leave it on overnight to achieve the richest stain,” Ganjoo says. “Once removed, the color starts as a bright orange before deepening into a rich reddish-brown over the next day or two. The stain gradually fades over one to three weeks, depending on the person’s skin, aftercare, and where it’s applied. I’ve always loved that the design evolves over time, making it beautiful and unique at every stage.”

Ganjoo says no two mehndi designs are exactly alike—that’s the whole point. It emphasizes individualism, expression, and creativity. “Many artists will use florals, paisleys, vines, mandalas, or symbolic motifs that have been passed down over generations. Sometimes brides also personalize their mehndi by weaving in meaningful details, like initials, places they’ve traveled, or elements that reflect their relationship. It can be deeply personal, and that allows every bride to tell their own story.”

Ganjoo was inspired by mehndi when she created Kulfi’s Mehndi Moment Blush ($38). “Our product names are always rooted in moments of joy from South Asian culture, and mehndi is no different. It isn’t just a ceremony; it’s a feeling. It’s the excitement before a celebration, being surrounded by people you love. We wanted Mehndi Moment to capture this feeling, melting into the skin to create a fresh, lived-in flush that feels effortless rather than overly perfected. It’s a creamy, buildable blush that nourishes and moisturizes your skin while giving you a bold yet natural flush of color.” [Note: The long-wearing blush will soon be discontinued, so longtime fans should stock up now before it’s too late.]

Like so many other bridal beauty rituals, mehndi is practiced for both practical and philosophical purposes. Practically, it offers an opportunity to pause and be present in the midst of pre-wedding chaos. Also, historically, the henna paste is thought to help alleviate stress, as it cools the hands and feet, both of which contain thousands of nerve endings. Philosophically, it symbolizes joy, luck, love, and new beginnings, as it prepares the bride to enter one of the most meaningful chapters of life: marriage. So while the mehndi will eventually fade from the bride’s hands and feet, it lingers on in memory, tradition, and cultural identity.

Reality television fans know her as one of the latest additions to Bravo's Summer House, a series that follows a group of New York City friends and their many dramas in a seasonal share nestled in the exclusive, coastal Hamptons. Rihanna knows her as a close friend and trusted confidant. Las Culturistas hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers just awarded her the title of Best Vibe, Hands Down at the 2026 Las Culturistas Culture Awards. If that wasn't enough to decorate her résumé, she's also a bona fide makeup lover, so it was only natural for Mia Calabrese to divulge her summer beauty secrets to us.

On a balmy summer day in late June, Calabrese curls up on a couch in a sprawling downtown Brooklyn hotel room, her face gently sculpted in a flurry of Fenty Beauty. "I feel like she and I have a very similar energy," Calabrese tells Who What Wear of friend and Fenty Beauty founder Rihanna in an Instagram Reel. The reality star and real estate salesperson credits their compatibility to the stars (Calabrese is a Cancer, and Rihanna is a Pisces), though she confesses to being a Fenty makeup stan for years before the duo met.

We asked the burgeoning star for her summer makeup tips ("How does she keep those looks locked in place in the Hamptons heat?" we often wonder), discovered what's on her beauty restock list, and dished on her sisterly relationship with costar Ciara Miller. Keep reading.

First, we asked, What's one beauty product that at least someone needs to have on hand in a share house? We joke that our closets are extensions of each other's. We're like sisters that don't fight. If I need to borrow anything, I'm like, "I need to go upstairs," or she'll come down [to mine] and be like, "I need to borrow these paper towels." I actually cannot think about not living in the same building with her; it makes me anxious.

Your friendship with Rihanna is iconic. What's your relationship like nowadays?

She actually texted me two days ago. I love her. That woman knows so much about my business. She's so sweet, such a good friend, and so thoughtful. She's just always checking in, which I appreciate as a water-sign girlie.

We know Rih's a reality TV lover. Did she watch your season and keep up with you as episodes came out?

She did! She was late to the reunion, though, and I had to text her. She's a big Summer House fan. When we were out, she was introducing me to people like, "Everyone, this is Mia from Summer House!" I'm like, "Everyone, this is Rihanna, period."

Do you remember your first Fenty Beauty purchase? What was it, and do you still restock?

Of course, I do!

I'll put my hands up. As a fragrance-obsessed beauty editor, I never thought floral perfumes were my thing. Amongst the numerous perfumes I've collected over my decade of working in beauty, you'll mostly find musky perfumes, woody scents or clean-smelling fragrances in my everyday fragrance rotation. But floral scents? Not so much. For me, they have often carried "dated" connotations, and smelling like a bouquet of flowers had never really appealed to me.

What Is Vitamin C?

Dr Sommerlad says, "Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant. In skincare, it neutralises free radical damage reactive oxidative species) from UV radiation and pollution, while supporting collagen synthesis and inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme driving eumelanin production. For these reasons, it is considered a brightening agent that can help reduce hyperpigmentation."

It has several different forms in skincare:

• L-ascorbic acid: the original, purest, least stable and most potent (but potentially irritating) form of vitamin C.
• Ascorbyl glucoside: the most stabilised form, which is commonly seen in entry-level formulas.
• Tetrahexydecyl ascorbate or THD for short: which is highly effective, low irritant, and highly stable.

Is Vitamin C Safe for Black Skin?

"Vitamin C is considered generally safe and beneficial for Black skin. Because melanin-rich skin is more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, its antioxidant and tyrosinase-inhibiting properties make it an important feature of maintaining an even and radiant complexion. My caution is to avoid high concentrations of L-ascorbic acid (20%) without a patch test, as it can cause irritation that may lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation," explains Dr Sommerlad.

How Should I Apply Vitamin C?

"Vitamin C is best used in the morning to protect the skin from the effects of outdoor pollution and UV. It is best applied to clean skin as the first layer of a morning skincare routine. Follow up with a moisturiser and, of course, always finish off with SPF, as protection against UV-triggered pigmentation is essential for maintaining results.", recommends Dr Sommerlad.

Does Vitamin C Help With Hyperpigmentation?

"Vitamin C has a two-pronged approach for helping with hyperpigmentation. First, by reducing the activity of tyrosinase, the enzyme essential for making eumelanin and second, by reducing the reactive oxygen species generated from pollution, which can contribute to excess hyperpigmentation and inflammatory hyperpigmentation."

How Long Until I See Results From Vitamin C?

"Think of vitamin C as a way of maintaining luminous, even skin rather than a “treatment” for hyperpigmentation. If you do have dark spots, treat hyperpigmentation first, then use vitamin C to maintain the results. It takes several months of consistent use to see improvement. Remember to be patient; avoid using too many products at the same time, and, as always, sun protection is a must."

What Ingredients Should I Avoid Using With Vitamin C?

"Avoid combining vitamin C with retinoids or strong exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs) in the same routine initially, as this can destabilise it and increase irritation risk. Benzoyl peroxide can also cause vitamin C to oxidise, making it less effective. To be safe, you should introduce actives separately, alternating mornings and evenings."

"Vitamin E and ferulic acid enhance the stability and antioxidant efficacy of vitamin C, with many serums containing these ingredients anyway. Niacinamide is well tolerated alongside stabilised formulations and can help calm any inflammation.", says Dr Sommerlad

I usually keep it simple with pedicures, opting for a single wash of color in any number of stylish shades. Lately, though, I've been tempted to branch out from my basic aesthetic and embrace an outdated trend that's made its way back into the limelight. I'm talking about the old-school French pedicure. Yep, the same French pedicure that was number one throughout the late '90s and early 2000s. It's been flooding my FYP all summer, but recently, it's reached peak saturation with celebrity nail artists and hot-ticket salons showing off all kinds of ultra-chic iterations.

The French pedicure is out of trend hibernation thanks to two things: the internet's obsession with sophisticated nail designs and all things Y2K. (I'm looking at you, Zara Larsson!) Regardless, it's the most stylish pedicure of summer 2026. Keep scrolling for all the evidence you need.

What is a French pedicure?

A French pedicure is the same thing as a French manicure—just, well, on the toes. It's a simple, minimalist design that traditionally involves painting a crisp white or off-white line across the top of each nail, although some French pedicures incorporate other colors like pink and butter yellow. When doing a French pedicure at home, the trick is to focus on the nail and cuticle prep, ensuring you have a clean, fresh, and precise base to work with.

How to Do a French Pedicure

Step 1: Foot & Cuticle Prep

Precise nail and cuticle prep is *everything* when attempting a DIY French pedicure. Depending on personal preference, time, and comfort level, nail artists often recommend soaking your feet for five to 10 minutes, exfoliating with a foot scrub, and then applying a cuticle remover to the base of the toes before pushing the cuticles back with a tool. Sally Hansen's Instant Cuticle Remover ($6) is my go-to. It works in 30 seconds and makes my nail beds look so smooth and fresh. Did I mention it comes highly recommended from an IG-famous dermatologist?

Step 2: The Base Color

Once the feet and cuticles are prepped, it's time to paint. Start with a base color. Traditionally, sheer, neutral nail colors have been used for this, but don't be afraid to mix a few shades to find your perfect one. This is a tip I learned from Hailey Bieber's nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt, who never uses just one shade. She mixes them to create a bespoke shade that complements each client's skin tone. A few of her go-to colors are below. You can also veer away from standard neutrals and choose a jelly one. Sheer pink, butter yellow, and lilac are flooding my FYP.

Step 3: The French Pedi

There are a couple of different ways you can create a professional-looking French pedicure at home. First, you can use a tapered nail brush to manually paint it across the top of the nail. This method works if you have a steady hand. Personally, though, I like using a stencil to get the perfect half-moon shape. I like Orly's Half Moon Guides ($7), which are wide enough to fit my toes just as well as they fit my fingers.

The French pharmacy approach is one that folks all over the world swear by. Even U.S.-based dermatologists wax poetic about the skincare favorites they can't leave France without. It isn't exactly a mystery why it's so beloved everywhere either. French pharmacy brands create expertly formulated products that are sensitive skin-friendly, affordable, and highly effective. Most importantly, there's a larger focus on long-term skin health rather than trendy ingredients that add no real value to the formula. It's such a solid way of doing things that many brand founders have been inspired to create their own take on this approach.

While simple is usually best, newer French pharmacy–inspired brands are focused more on skin regeneration. Regenerative ingredients like growth factors, exosomes, and peptides are definitely trendy, but these brands are taking it to the next level. Let's face it. Most of us have barrier damage lingering from our aggro skincare era—overexfoliating and overusing prescription retinoids. In my experience, traditional ingredients just don't cut it when you're looking to heal. Sometimes, you need something with a little more oomph. I spoke to several brand founders leading the charge about this regenerative approach and why they think it matters moving forward. French Farmacie

After a difficult infertility journey, French Farmacie founder Tricia Marlowe found solace in smaller daily rituals that helped her build resilience. "Along the way, I noticed a real improvement in my skin, and that curiosity led me into research on how ingredients and daily rituals influence skin and overall health, drawing on my master's [degree] in psychology and my background in biotech and diagnostics," she shared.

French pharmacies were also on her radar long before she started her brand. "Whenever I made it to Paris, I'd go with a list of products to check out," she said. "Their philosophy of restraint and a daily commitment to the skin's long-term health, not quick fixes, is what really spoke to me. That's the approach I wanted to build French Farmacie around."

The brand is known for its simple lineup that packs a punch. One of its most intriguing formulas is the Alchemy Serum ($200). This regenerative serum is packed with next-generation plant-based growth factors, peptides, and other key actives that stimulate epidermal renewal, improve firmness, rebuild the skin barrier, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. While it is the brand's priciest offering, it's the one that provides the most visible results. "With Alchemy, I wanted to lean into my background in biotechnology as I learned more about next-generation regenerative skincare, using actives that support the skin's own repair systems, cell turnover, collagen production, and barrier recovery rather than forcing results," she explained. "We partnered with Core Biogenesis, an award-winning French biotech company that uses plants as biofactories, to create stable, sustainable growth factors."

Marlowe is a big believer that the future of skincare goes deeper than surface correction. While regenerative ingredients might seem trendy at the moment, she believes it's just the start of a new long-game model in skincare. "Modern skincare is shifting toward regeneration, supporting the skin's ability to repair its barrier, turn over cells, and hold onto hydration so it can strengthen itself over time," she added. "That pairs naturally with the French pharmacy philosophy of working with skin rather than against it. That's the thinking behind Alchemy: using science-backed growth factors and peptides to support the skin's natural renewal instead of overriding it. People want results without irritation, and that's exactly what this approach is built to deliver."

Mimétique

Mimétique is another exciting brand at the forefront of this shift. It recently became Violet Grey approved, which quickly caught my attention. Founded by Fabienne Sebaoun, a French cosmetic chemist, its products are designed to stimulate the skin's natural regeneration process fast. "I come from a family of dermatologists, so science has always been my language," Sebaoun told me. "I worked with some incredible skincare brands over the years, then I moved to Canada in 2015—right when the clean beauty movement hit its peak [with] ingredients to ban, fear-first marketing. To be honest, I felt completely lost in the noise, so I went back to basics. What does skin actually need? What does it actually produce? I enrolled back at university at almost 40 to find out."

It was here that Sebaoun discovered skin mimicry in a biochemistry class, the idea that your skin is already its own best technology. If you give it the same molecules it already makes, it will recognize them instantly and know exactly what to do with them. "The science clicked immediately, but I was not ready to launch a brand yet," she said. "I needed proof, not a concept, so I partnered with the chair of cosmetology at AgroParisTech and spent years developing what became our proprietary SMR-C5 complex. That is when Mimétique became real."

It's a simple yet incredibly interesting premise. Sebaoun explained a little bit more about why exactly it works: "Skin already knows what to do. It just makes less of what it needs over time, so we give it back exactly that. Instead of layering on actives, we build formulas around skin-identical molecules, the same peptides and lipids your skin already produces. That is the whole logic behind our SMR-C5 complex. It is not one ingredient. It is five skin-identical actives working together, and in clinical testing, it increased procollagen I production by 28%. The rest of the range follows the same principle."

The range is purposely pared down and made in France. Each product is a true multitasker, doing multiple jobs, so you can have fewer steps in your routine without sacrificing results. Every formula is packed with 20 to 25% active ingredients, which Sebaoun said is unusual for a small brand but nonnegotiable for her.

While both brands are at the forefront of an exciting skincare shift, Sebaoun also said that the rest of the world is just catching up to the French approach. "Dermocosmetics, clinical actives, and scientific proof have always been the backbone of a French routine," she shared. "People are tired of overpromises. They want to be educated, not sold to. They want formulas that do something, not formulas that just look good on a shelf. That French pharmacy tradition is where beauty is headed—skin-first, science-backed formulas that work and habits that last. Mimétique is built on that heritage. And skincare is about consistency, like brushing your teeth: Do it every day, and it does 90% of the work."

The Odyssey is 2026's answer to a thematic press-tour aesthetic. Think Grecian-inspired gowns, sunlit jewelry, and glowing skin. (We're still not over Zendaya's Athena-esque inner-corner highlight.) Lupita Nyong'o is no exception. Her character, Helen of Troy, is the crux of the ancient epic, so it's no surprise she's been showing up and showing out on the red carpet.

The Oscar-winning actress and our July cover star attended the London, Paris, and New York premieres with unforgettable hair and makeup looks, courtesy of her long-time hairstylist Vernon François and makeup artist Nick Barose. Skin Prep

"This kind of press tour for a gigantic blockbuster film like this can be quite a beast, [with] traveling international, time differences, etc.," Barose says, which is why skin prep is paramount. He relies on a few essentials to prep Nyong'o's complexion before applying makeup.

"I always start by misting her face with the [Skwálwen Botanicals] Kalkáy (Wild Rose) Refreshing Toner ($65), an Indigenous brand that Lily Gladstone turned me on to during her Oscars season," he says. "It's now my and my clients' favorite. Its gentle, refreshing wild rose scent is so relaxing, and [it's] the best way to wake up all the senses before I start makeup."

Next, he uses the Ziip Halo Microcurrent Device ($400). "I love using this, especially before big red carpet events, like The Odyssey premiere in London, Paris, and NYC. You really do see the difference right away. It's the perfect prep for the complexion so your glow really looks like it's coming from within. The four-minute facial feature gave such amazing effects and only took four minutes, so the hairdresser, manicurist, and stylist don't get mad at me for eating into their glam time," he says.

As an exfoliating step, he uses Lisa Eldridge's Luxuriously Gentle Cleansing and Exfoliating Cloth ($16). "I often soak this in warm water, then squeeze until it's damp and scrub the face, neck, and lips in circular motions to polish and get rid of any possible dry patches before makeup," he explains.

Lastly, he uses Chanel's Sublimage Le Sérum($560), La Crème ($505), La Crème Yeux ($320), and Lip Oil ($365) to prep Nyong'o's skin. Then, it's on to makeup.

"The silver Christian Cowan dress is very vampy and fierce," Barose says. "I drew inspiration from Hollywood's very first vamp screen persona, Theda Bara in 1917, as well as the later photographs of Marilyn Monroe dressed up as Theda Bara by photographer Richard Avedon from 1958." Barose created "sultry, dark, vampy" eyes and lips with razor-sharp cheekbones. He kept the color palette quite muted and created defined eyes and lips with fresh, glowing skin as a backdrop.

The look's standout products came courtesy of Lisa Eldridge Beauty, starting with the Elevated Glow Balm in High Key Light ($38). "I applied the golden-tone highlighter on the top of cheeks and brow bones as well as the shoulders. It illuminated the skin, adding that candlelit glow," he says.

Next were two black cherry products. First, he used the Velatura Balm in Hellebore Heaven ($36). "The black cherry balm adds a hint of colour and shine on cheeks and lips," he explains. He added the Rouge Experience Refillable Lipstick in 190 Bohemian Cherry ($59) "for a seductive, vampy pout." He finished off the look with the brand's Liquid Lurex Eyeshadow in Liza ($30), a chic metallic pewter.

"Fun fact: Eartha Kitt also played Helen of Troy onstage in Paris for the legendary director Orson Welles in 1950. [Nyong'o's] flaming-red Chanel see-through dress is giving a bit of Eartha Kitt, so I wanted the makeup to be a nod to Eartha Kitt with her famous Catwoman feline eyes," he says. He paired the eye makeup with deep-red lipstick and gold sparkles on the skin for "extra drama and theatrics."

He started with Chanel's Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint ($72) in Deep Plus and Sublimage L'Essence de Teint Longwear Foundation ($180) in BR152 "for the perfect amount of glow and radiance." Next, he used Chanel's Joues Contrast Cream to Powder Blush in Grenat Profond ($56). "This fresh berry tone adds a hint of flush on the apples of the cheeks," he adds.

Then, he lined Nyong'o's eyes with Chanel's Le Crayon Yeux in 01 Noir Black ($36), added full and fluttery lashes with the Inimitable Mascara Intense ($40), and applied a rich lipstick, the 31 Le Rouge in 11 Rouge Coromandel ($198). "This looks plummy in the tube, but on deep skin, it adds the perfect amount of rich red that complements her fire-engine red Chanel dress without being matchy-matchy or competing with it," he says.

Last but not least, he used Chanel's Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Highlighting Fluid ($56), Hume's Dry Body Oil Mist ($25) (which Nyong'o actually turned him on to), and a little sparkle—Ben Nye Sparklers Glitter in LD-3 Gold, to be exact. He says, "The perfect sparkles! I sprinkled them on top of her cheekbones and body while Vernon dusted it in her hair too."

"The regal gold lace Nicholas Oakwood Couture paired with the Sabyasachi necklace harked back to those glamorous femme fatales from iconic sword-and-sandal films of the '50s, '60s. Think Anne Baxter from The Ten Commandments, Donyale Luna in Fellini's Satyricon, and, of course, Liz Taylor in Cleopatra," he says. Barose created a '60s-inspired look with winged liner, a defined crease, and gold details that were paired with long, feathery lashes and angular, arched brows for an "Old Hollywood screen goddess" effect.

Barose used T-beauty eyeliners from his home country of Thailand, as well as Danessa Myricks Colorfix Pigment ($22) in Goldmine. "I painted this on the inner corners of eyes, center of lids, and a bit on the brow bones," he says. "The gold details added highlight to the eyes and tied in with her gold gown."

Then, he used the I-Envy Classic Timeless Wispy False Lashes. "I love the long, feathery lashes that have spaces in between. They add drama but not density, so the gold on the lids still shows through without being overwhelmed by the length of the lashes. I then glued two of the 12-millimeter clusters from the Cluster Palette ($15) on the outer corners for extra lifts and a feline effect using I-Envy Super Strong Waterproof Glue ($5), which is a must, especially for this sweaty NYC heat wave," he says.

A major part of the look was defined, sculpted cheekbones. For that, Barose turned to a product from a fellow celebrity makeup artist, the Tansculpt Bronzing Contour Balm ($34) by Hung Vanngo. "I was on the Odyssey press tour from London to Paris and NYC with Hung, who's glamming Anne Hathaway," he says. "He turned me on to this [product]. It's so dark and delicious—perfect for sculpting, contouring cheekbones for deep skin tones."

Heat-Wave Makeup-Setting Essentials

It's no secret that The Odyssey's premieres have been happening in the midst of a summer heat wave. Barose says doing full glam in these conditions is every "makeup artist's worst nightmare," as high heat can affect the aesthetic and wear of makeup. Luckily, he has some makeup-setting and shine-controlling staples.

First, he recommends Mehron's TouchUp Anti-Shine ($12). He uses the shade Dark on Nyong'o. "This theater/cinema backstage brand is my go-to for shine control," he says. "A little bit goes a long way."

He also uses a setting spray, but not just any setting spray. It's Mistine's Matte Setting Spray ($13), another Thai beauty brand he swears by. "A little bit of this helps lock it all in," he says. "I focused more on the T-zone, so it's matte and polished while the rest of the face remains glowy in all the right places."

Last but not least, he uses Payot's Absorbing Blotting Sheets ($13) before any necessary touch-ups. "This heat required more touch-ups, which can turn makeup cakey real fast," he says. "I always blot with blotting paper first before each touch-up to keep skin fresh looking in this heat wave."
