Live from Los Angeles: I attended the 98th Academy Awards! As part of Etalk’s Oscars coverage, I reported from the red carpet alongside Tyrone Edwards and Lainey Lui. And let me tell you this was like no other assignment I’ve had before. The carpet was the longest of the season, taking up multiple lanes down Hollywood Boulevard, tracking all the way inside the Dolby Theatre. Our coverage lasted for a whopping three and a half hours. And the scene was filled with the world’s biggest stars, from Michael B. Jordan to Zendaya.

Etalk’s camera angles captured several memorable moments—thanks to Lainey’s infamously sharp eye for gossip—like Timothée Chalamet avoiding Steven Spielberg and celebs like Brandi Carlile and Elle Fanning shooting tequila. Tyrone was able to speak to stars like Best Supporting Actress winner Amy Madigan, who confirmed to Etalk that Warner Brothers is behind a Weapons prequel. And my job? Fashion expertise, of course.

It didn’t take long for me to spot the trends of the evening: glitter, feathers, chokers, brooches, and red lipstick. Here, the best examples.

Bold Glitter

Whether it was sequins or, more unexpectedly, beading, sparkle was the name of the game at this year’s Oscars. And there was a version for everyone, from sexy to classic to cool. We saw stars like Wunmi Mosaku go for bold gem-tone sequins in Louis Vuitton, Kate Hudson in head-to-toe seafoam paillettes by Armani Privé, and Audrey Nuna in gilded beading paired with a ball-gown skirt from Thom Browne.

Feathers

One of fashion month’s top trends was feathers—cut to Schiaparelli couture, Chanel fall 2026, etcetera, etcetera. It was exiting to see that theme hit the red carpet a matter of days after Paris Fashion Week wrapped. Chanel took the front position here with Teyana Taylor in a tiered ostrich-feather skirt with a matching black-and-white handbag and Nicole Kidman in a feather-accented peplum number. Demi Moore wore a more birdlike custom gown by Gucci.

Choker Necklaces

I’m not exaggerating when I say that almost every single woman had a statement choker on. Below are my favorites, including Anne Hathaway in Bulgari (and Valentino), Chase Infiniti in De Beers (and Louis Vuitton), and Jessie Buckley in Chanel. But we also saw them on Zoe Saldaña, Mikey Madison, Kristen Wiig, Alicia Silverstone, Ava DuVernay, Elle Fanning, Priyanka Chopra, Anna Wintour—the list goes on.

Beautiful Brooches

For those who wore menswear, it was all about the brooch. My favorite of the evening was Pedro Pascal in an unexpectedly large white floral pin made from feathers against a crisp white shirt. More classically, Hudson Williams wore a small diamond brooch on the lapel of this all-black three-piece Balenciaga 'fit. And if you looked super closely, you could see the tiniest gold adornment on the center of Miles Caton’s brown monochrome Amiri ensemble.

The Standout Beauty Look: Red Lip + Slicked Bun

If there was one standout beauty trend, it was easily red lips and slick hair. (For the men: mustaches and bow ties.) Renate Reinsve, Rose Byrne, Li Jun Li, and Jessie Buckley all rocked this look. At the Vanity Fair after-party, model Precious Lee followed suit.

There are few things in fashion we can bank on, but if there's one thing, it's that the Academy Awards will serve multiple very good looks on the red carpet. Be it sexy, sequinned or downright surprising, we know as editors we'll wake up on that Monday in March to a series of viral moments, magnificent dresses and, of course, the news of who took home the most-coveted awards.

When covering the Oscars, particularly the red carpet fashion, we expect fun, fabulous but relatively unwearable looks. Feathers! Naked dresses! Rhinestones! Stunning? Yes. But easy to wear day to day? Perhaps not. But there was one microtrend I spotted at this year’s Academy Awards that I think is not only wearable but about to be huge, and that’s embroidered floral motifs.

Whilst we spotted a few examples; Rose Byrne in custom Dior, Lauren Santo Domingo in Conner Ives for the Vanity Fair after-party and Arden Cho in Miss Sohee, Anne Hathaway’s black velvet haute couture Valentino Garavani gown was possibly the most breathtaking. With a mermaid silhouette, a deep waisted belt and accessorised with matching black velvet opera gloves, Roger Vivier Jewel heeled sandals and Bulgari jewellery, this was not your standard little black dress. Hathaway’s choice to wear the luxury brand was no doubt a tribute to the house’s namesake designer Valentino Garavini, who died in January and was a friend of hers.

Another example that caught my eye was Lauren Santo Domingo’s Conner Ives dress for the Vanity Fair after-party. Floral embroidered silk pieces, primarily coats with a fur trim, are fast becoming a signature for emerging London-based New York designer. Just this weekend Zoe Kravitz was pictured wearing a custom jacket whilst stepping out with her boyfriend Harry Styles. Adorned with oriental florals, like the wisteria on Domingo’s dress, the style feels similar to that of Mary-Kate Olsen’s Balmain silk floral coat worn at The Met Gala in 2013.

Actress and KPop singer Arden Cho also chose soft floral embroidery on her chartreuse green (a trending spring/summer 26 colour) shawl by Miss Sohee courture. The Demon Hunters star paired the green embroidered puffed sleeve piece, which has a long trail from each arm to wear with her fishtail black lace gown.

Rose Byrne, who was nominated for Best Actress at the awards for her role in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, wore a stunning black velvet gown not unlike Anne Hathaway's. The Dior dress was also sleeveless, with a mermaid silhouette, in jet black with beautiful floral embroidered bouquets across the bottom and chest.

If the Oscars 2026 red carpet is the ultimate award-season showdown, the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party is where Hollywood lets its hair down. It's where fashion gets a little more daring. After months of red carpet glitz and glamour, tonight's attendees traded gowns built for the Dolby Theatre for looks designed to dance, mingle, and make a statement under the iconic after-party lights. Every sequined slip, tailored suit, and showstopping accessory deserves its moment in the spotlight, and we're here to give them just that.

It's officially entertainment's most important night. The Oscars red carpet—or the Academy Awards if you're fancy—plays host to some of the most awe-striking fashion and beauty moments of the year. Though the show celebrates the actors, cast, crew members, and many projects of 2025, the stars have arrived on the red carpet donning looks that feel reminiscent of a certain 2026 film that sent the internet into a frenzy: Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights, marked by Margot Robbie's cascading gothic waves.

Historically inspired romantic hairstyles have been sweeping red carpets ever since Robbie's rotation of stellar press tour looks kicked off in late January, but the trend seems to have had a lasting impression on the stars bedecking Hollywood's most revered event. Gothic-Wave Trend at the 2026 Oscars

A'zion's famous waves are out to play tonight, and we can't help but notice how seamlessly her naturally bouncy spirals mesh with this gothic trend. Worn loose and voluminous, her look demonstrates a curly take on this historically charged style.

Infiniti's looks—from head to toe—are always the talk of the town, and tonight is no different. The One Battle After Another star wears her sweeping tresses in goddess braids, showcasing how stunning natural hair looks with this trend. Celebrity hairstylist Coree Moreno created this sculpted braid look with a smattering of bendy waves using Bellami's Silk Seam Clip-Ins and the Arachne Smoothboost Brush for an extra touch of length and volume.

At this point, Cravalho's inky waves are basically synonymous with the Disney princess role that kick-started her career (Moana, if you live under a rock). However, the actress and singer pinned her trademark ebony waves up into a half-up, half-down style that feels very Bridgerton to us beauty editors.

Bella Thorne was the apple of our eye as walked down the carpet in a sheer black gown and moody Brontë waves. In a half-up, half-down style similar to Cravalho's, Thorne pulled out a few face-framing pieces and adorned her style with a black bow.

Greenblatt is yet another actress donning this romantic, cascading style. The Barbie alum looks extra chic in a vintage John Galliano off-the-shoulder dress, accented by her stunning, tousled waves—falling perfectly in line with the period-piece trend we've seen sweeping 2026's red carpets.

We've officially reached the ultimate award show of the season: the Academy Awards. Twenty twenty-six marks the 98th year of the awards, and its lineup is sure to be as highly discussed and hotly debated as years past. Though we'd happily enjoy a star-studded red carpet every Sunday night, award season unfortunately comes to a close this evening with the 2026 Academy Awards, the finish line of a long and very stylish run of shows that started all the way back in November. It's bittersweet, so we want to savor every second of it, paying especially close attention to the looks that tonight's attendees and their stylists spent hours upon hours putting together. Every last earring and hand-sewn embellishment deserves its moment, and we're happy to give them just that.

Of all the award shows each season, the Oscars are always the mecca when it comes to fashion. Think back to some of the greatest looks of all time, like Nicole Kidman's chartreuse Dior Haute Couture dress by John Galliano in 1997, Lupita Nyong'o's aquamarine Prada gown in 2014, and Emma Stone's gold fringed Givenchy dress designed by Riccardo Tisci. While it's incredibly common to see naked dresses at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, it's much more rare to see a lot of skin (or the illusion of skin) at the Academy Awards itself. Watch out, Freddie Freeman. Emma Stone has a world-class batting average at the Academy Awards. Of her four acting nominations, she's won twice: once for La La Land in 2017 and a second time for Poor Things in 2024. For comparison, Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated eight times but has only won once.

I'm no movie critic, so I won't comment on whether I think she'll win Best Actress for Bugonia at the 2026 ceremony on Sunday, March 15, but I am definitely qualified to discuss her Oscars red carpet looks. In my mind, her Academy Awards style evolution can be divided into two parts: BLV and ALV (before Louis Vuitton and after Louis Vuitton). She signed a contract with the famed French house in October 2017, so 2018 was her first Oscars appearance as brand ambassador. Not coincidentally, that was the first year she threw us a fashion curveball—do you like all my baseball metaphors?—with cigarette pants and a belted blazer in lieu of a traditional red carpet gown.

She followed that up with a pair of unexpectedly sculptural LV dresses in 2019 and 2024, which were stark departures from the more conventional looks she wore earlier in her Oscars oeuvre. That said, she brought it full circle in 2025 with a sleek and sparkly nude LV gown reminiscent of her 2015 Elie Saab number and 2017 Givenchy frock.

2015

The 2026 award season is coming to a close, and it seems that the nominees, presenters, and attendees are saving some of their best red carpet looks for last. Last night, the 32nd Actor Awards (aka, the award show formerly known as the SAG Awards) took place in downtown Los Angeles, and I found it to be a very chic red carpet. In contrast to the upcoming Oscar Awards, the Actor Awards offer the attendees the opportunity to have a bit more fun with their looks. They're not quite as formal as the Oscars, and many on the red carpet embraced the opportunity to take some fashion risks that undoubtedly paid off. It's also worth noting that for the first time in my memory for an award show, the red carpet had a theme—"Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the '20s and '30s"—and many on the red carpet seemed to let that guide what they chose to wear.

You may have seen our coverage of all the looks from the Actor Awards red carpet, as well as our exhaustive beauty coverage from the night, but now that we've all had some time to marinate on it, I've chosen the top five looks of the night. If I'm being honest, it wasn't all that easy—it was a very chic red carpet, with lots of looks that even the most discerning of fashion people would appreciate, but narrow it down I did. Emma Stone

Emma Stone has become a staple on the red carpet, with a great many nominations and wins under her belt. And although I may personally be biased because I'm a fan, let me just say that she has been killing it on the award circuit this year. Stone, who was nominated for her work in Bugonia, and stylist Petra Flannery opted for a shimmery lilac Louis Vuitton gown with a matching shimmering cardigan. It had an effortless '90s minimalism feel to it and exemplified what cool girls wear on the red carpet in 2026.

Chase Infiniti

New red carpet It girl Chase Infiniti, nominated for One Battle After Another, also opted for Louis Vuitton. Her wheat-colored formfitting long-sleeve gown and cloche-style mesh cap perfectly represented the theme and felt glamorous yet modern. She said in a red carpet interview that she was going for a Josephine Baker look, and she undoubtedly succeeded.

Sarah Pidgeon

Sarah Pidgeon, another new face on the red carpet this year, has seen her star in Hollywood and the fashion world rise in recent months, given her spot-on portrayal of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Pidgeon wore a pale pink tulip-shaped strapless gown from Balenciaga's S/S 26 collection, and it pretty much solidified her as the new fashion It girl who I hope will be a fixture on red carpets for years to come. Taking fashion risks right out of the gate is always a good idea, if you ask me.

Demi Moore

Whenever I receive a press release that someone will be wearing Schiaparelli on the red carpet, I know it's going to be a dramatic, showstopping moment, and that's exactly what it was when Demi Moore stepped on the red carpet wearing a S/S 26 couture gown by the fashion house. According to Schiaparelli, the sculptural black bustier gown was made of black wool crêpe embellished with a satin-stitch trompe l’œil crocodile tail, and the white tulle "cloud" at the back was embroidered with 8500 black mimosas in silk thread and over 11,000 crystals. Breathtaking, to say the least.

Last but not least, Kate Hudson, nominated for Song Sung Blue, went with an ethereal bridal-esque gown, custom-made by Valentino. It included trend-forward elements such as elegant ruching and a cape detail that cascaded over her shoulders. It was the perfect example of the glamorous, romantic Grecian-inspired aesthetic that was popular in the 1930s, in keeping with the theme for the night.

Normally, when I settle in for an evening of red-carpet spotting, I’m primed for a parade of inky black gowns, barely-there naked dresses and luminous satin silhouettes. Awards season tends to favour drama and depth, but at yesterday’s Actors Awards, the mood felt significantly brighter.

Instead of noir drama or high-shine neutrals, Hollywood’s chicest stepped out in a wash of delicate, light-infused hues—ushering in a spring palette that feels totally in step with the season's brighter days.

Setting the tone early on, Emma Stone arrived in a chainmail lilac gown complete with a matching bolero from Louis Vuitton. The look shimmered subtly whilst the soft violet shade brought a gentle romance to the otherwise armour-like texture of the metal mesh. Tapping into an underrated colour trend poised for a major moment this season, Stone sidestepped traditional red carpet expectations, welcoming a flush of spring energy instead.

From there, elegant pastel tones appeared on several of the evening’s best-dressed. Aimee Lou Wood opted for an icy blue, off-the-shoulder gown from Versace. Rich in pleated detailing and finished with an almost iridescent sheen, the dress carried a sculptural quality that required little in the way of embellishment.

Riffing on the pastel mood, Sarah Pidgeon emerged in a strapless bubble gown rendered in the softest wash of pink. Hovering somewhere between blush and lilac, the shade felt fresh and refined—distinct from the deeper, moodier ’90s tones she’s become associated with since portraying Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in Love Story. The silhouette brought a playful edge, but the colour kept things polished and grown-up.

Throughout the event, pale pinks, powder blues and delicate lilacs emerged as the season's favourite hues—all styled with minimal accessories and sleek shoes, allowing the fresh palette to speak for itself.

I may be biased, but I think it's fun to see what celebrities choose to wear to high-profile events like the Golden Globes, Grammys, and the Independent Spirit Awards. I've thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Chase Infiniti's breakout red carpet season and following Elle Fanning's road to her first Oscars nomination. Tonight, we have one last stop before the Academy Awards, which will be held on Sunday, March 15.

And just like that, award season is in full swing. In case you missed it, 2026 kicked off with the Golden Globes, the Grammys, the BAFTAs, and the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Up next tonight is the Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards.

Tonight's award show, hosted by Kristen Bell for the third time and streamed live on Netflix, will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The event will cover 15 categories, including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Ensemble in a Drama/Comedy Series. With movies and television shows like Wicked: For Good, Song Sung Blue, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, The Diplomat, and Only Murders in the Building, we can expect to see the best-dressed celebrities, including Ariana Grande, Kate Hudson, Teyana Taylor, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Keri Russell.

What makes the 2026 Actor Awards so special and exciting, especially for fashion people, is that for the first time, Elle has set the official fashion theme for its red carpet: Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the '20s and '30s. "The concept pays tribute to an era defined by bold expression, sensuality, and cultural collision," as noted in a press release. Personally, I'm eager to see how A-listers and their stylists interpret this theme. The good news is that I don't have to wait any longer, as the first celebrities are already arriving, and the energy suggests the night will be filled with stunning fashion.

Last night, London hosted one of the most anticipated nights in film. The 2026 BAFTAs were held at the iconic Royal Festival Hall. Although most eyes are probably on the iconic red carpet fashion moments that dominated last night, as a beauty writer, my eyes were set solely on the makeup, hair and nail looks that I want to recreate for myself. And after spending all morning scrolling through the best BAFTA 2026 beauty moments, my thoughts are set firmly on one in particular—Ellie Bamber’s sheer makeup look, courtesy of Armani Beauty.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m somewhat of a makeup minimalist, so it should come as no surprise that this sheer, glowy full-face caught my eye. Between the soft, smokey eye, healthy glow of the cheeks and the glossy nude lip, Ellie’s makeup look is one I’m sure every clean girl is set to try this season. Not to mention that it falls directly into the "Dew 2.0" look that’s set to be one of 2026’s biggest makeup trends.

After spotting this makeup look on the red carpet, I, of course, had to reach out to celebrity makeup artist Zoë Taylor to find out the inspiration behind the look, as well as the exact products she used, so that I can recreate the look for myself. The Inspiration

"Ellie’s beautiful dress was the inspiration behind the makeup, echoing the sheerness of the fabric through matte texture on the lid and super-fresh, glowing skin. Ellie has the most perfect pale complexion, so we keep it cool on the eyes using sheer browns and greys over the lid, and lots of mascara. Cheeks felt flushed and youthful, whilst the lips were a very considered nude," says Taylor.

The Application

1. Apply blush high on the cheeks for a flushed look.
2. Apply the deeper eye tint next to the lash and the lighter shade over the lid, buffing into the lid and lash line to create depth. Layer the colours like an oil painting.
3. Apply gloss onto the centre of the lipstick to create a fuller pout.
4. I love to apply the luminous silk finish with a regular foundation brush and then use a fluffy brush to blend it into the skin seamlessly.
5. I find the foundation is so skin-like, which I love for a red-carpet finish.

When Selena Gomez isn’t inspiring us to book nail appointments with her red carpet manicures or jamming to Grammy Record of the Year winner Kendrick Lamar (“I'm listening to a lot of [him],” she tells us IRL), you can find her paving new paths for her industry-disrupting brand, Rare Beauty. Gomez, 33, recently took to an Ulta store in El Segundo, California, to celebrate the launch of Rare Beauty onto the mega retailer’s shelves, and Who What Wear caught up with the star to dish on all things beauty, award season, and what this new partnership means to her personally.

Gomez’s hair is cut into a sleek, jaw-grazing bob tucked cleanly behind her ear when she looks around the room at the matching fringe on each journalist present. “Wait, do I need to get bangs?” she jokes before settling into rounds of interviews, when she describes the “surreal” experience of seeing her own products in a store she’d grown up with. “My mom was a makeup artist for this tiny modeling agency in Dallas, Texas, so she would go to all of the stores,” she tells WWW.

According to an article on People, the brand’s arrival at Ulta marks a breakthrough moment for the retailer as its largest debut to date, with Rare Beauty’s best sellers, hero collections, and two Ulta-exclusive kits launching online and in 1500 brick-and-mortar stores on February 1. This is the first time Gomez has expanded her brand into another retailer—having launched Rare Beauty on its own site and in Sephora in 2020—making hers one of the few celebrity beauty brands to be sold at both retail giants, next to Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty, Lady Gaga’s Haus Labs, and more.

However, it wasn’t industry domination that the “Bluest Flame” singer set out to achieve when she built her beloved brand. Makeup has been a core aspect of the multi-hyphenate’s artistic expression ever since childhood, when she followed her makeup-artist mother around the glamorous aisles of local beauty stores—absorbing her her techniques and noting the brands she’d use on models at shoots.

“I remember MAC being a huge one,” she recalls. “That was the one that all the girls were into… I remember all the colors and being like, ‘Wow, this is crazy,’” she adds. (We point out that it seems like a colorful MAC Cosmetics single eye shadow is a teenage beauty lover’s rite of passage. “Mine was blue,” she agrees.) “I remember being little—like, curious—[and] playing with that, and then it became a part of my life,” she adds.

Though Gomez’s approach to beauty and fashion has evolved since her Texan department store days—we joke about her viral “got some blue going on” interview moment from a Teen Vogue party in 2007—her love of makeup has remained. “It's a ritual. It’s part of what I do,” she explains. “It's natural that I feel connected to my brand because it's very simple.”

Aside from Rare Beauty’s wildly successful debut at Ulta, Gomez’s schedule is stacked thanks to award season. Blame it on the impending release of Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights or general anticipation for Valentine’s Day, but we can’t deny the swoon-worthy yet decidedly dated styles making a comeback on the first major red carpet of 2026. In addition to Grande’s dark-hair debut (a shade celebrity hairstylist Naeemah Lafond previously told Who What Wear would be a trending hue this winter), we were struck by the historical nod the nominated star’s style makes. Perhaps Grande got a sneak peek of her Wicked: For Good co-star Jonathan Bailey’s fourth season of Bridgerton because something about this style feels oh so Daphne. Grande’s hairstylist Alyx Liu fashioned her freshly dyed tresses—transitioned from Glinda blonde to an elevated Cat Valentine cinnamon by celebrity colorist Brandon Pietsch—into a romantic bun, complete with wispy bangs and cascading barrel curls.

Our editors were quick to catch the Stevie Nicks reference in A'zion's voluminous style last night. The I Love LA star paired a glittering batwing dress with a full head of '70s-esque curls, including a smattering of textured bangs across her forehead. In a red carpet interview with Deadline, the Marty Supreme alum addressed the wig allegations regarding her bouncy, long curls. "There’s a whole debate, ‘Is it a wig? Is it not?’ I guess we’ll never know," she kids. "The gag is, in the New York premiere [of Marty Supreme] it took me five hours to do my hair, and everyone thinks it's a wig."

Jessica Williams's '60s Half-Up, Half-Down Hair

Shrinking's Jessica Williams got dolled up for the 2026 Critics Choice Awards with a '60s-inspired half-up, half-down 'do by celebrity hairstylist SherriAnn Cole. Her inky tresses were styled straight with softly curled ends, with the front section of her hair slicked into a half-up style. Williams then tied a black ribbon over her hair tie to pull in the satin bow from her custom Bora Aksu dress, styled by Sarah Slutsky Tooley.

But the actress and comedian isn't the only star to don hair bows on the red carpet last night—The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping's Mckenna Grace also styled a similar look, accented with Bardot-esque curtain bangs and a sweet velvet bow.

Think back to early 2019. It's January, and Timothée Chalamet has just arrived on the red carpet at the Golden Globes wearing a couture harness by the late Louis Vuitton menswear designer and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh. (Later, the Marty Supreme actor told Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he was told it was actually a bib, not a harness, a distinction that was confirmed by the brand.) He was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in Beautiful Boy, but it was his sequined, BDSM-inspired accessory that won out that night and in the weeks that followed. Suddenly, harnesses were everywhere, also showing up on Michael B. Jordan at the SAG Awards (his was also designed by Abloh) not long after.

Though harnesses—ahem, bibs—didn't have a long reign on the red carpet for men, the micro-trend had a lasting effect on men's fashion. Gone were classic, simple tuxedos. During award season, a menswear look needed something special and unexpected to garner acclaim, be it a brooch or a very unbuttoned shirt, which have both been very popular in recent years. Now, as we enter a new year, another BDSM-inspired accessory is beginning to take hold.

In the first days of 2026 alone, Jacob Elordi has debuted not one but two leather ties, and both were designed by the actor's close friends at Bottega Veneta. They're subtle, sexy, and luxe in an almost surprising way. An accessory that could easily look, well, tacky is anything but that when done right. It, of course, helps that it was Elordi who wore it, and he combined the leather tie with two custom-tailored suits courtesy of the Italian house's new creative director, Louise Trotter.

Elordi's leather ties have become his signature on the red carpet since 2026 started just a few days ago, but he was slipping them into his rotation before the new year too. Back in October, he wore one to a special screening of his new Guillermo del Toro film, Frankenstein, in New York City. It was black with a subtle shine, and he paired it with a navy-blue double-breasted suit, a gray shirt, and black Intrecciato shoes, all from Bottega Veneta. He finished off the look with red-tinted sunglasses—the same pair he wore at last night's Critics Choice Awards.

On January 3, Elordi kicked off award season in Palm Springs at the 37th annual Palm Springs International Film Awards, where he once again wore Bottega Veneta. This time, he donned a custom-made single-breasted suit in a soft oat that was very appropriate for the event's location. What was less expected for Palm Springs was his Fondant leather tie, which only made the accessory more buzzworthy.

Finally, at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles, Elordi arrived in all black (apart from his ever-present red eyewear), pairing his black leather tie with another custom suit—a double-breasted style with hidden buttons—which he wore with a black shirt, Intrecciato shoes, and tiny gold hoop earrings. Everything, of course, was tailored to perfection, and his leather tie offered just the right amount of texture and depth to the otherwise void-like ensemble.

With award season just beginning, I have a feeling this won't be the last time we spot Elordi in a leather tie, especially given how much attention Frankenstein and his portrayal of the titular character are receiving. If the accessory's impact is as dominant as Chalamet's famed bib, we'll likely spot it on others before the run of award shows ends with the Oscars all the way in March.

One thing's for certain: There'll be plenty of spectacular outfits from our favorite celebrities within the next few months, with the Golden Globes coming up next weekend and the Academy Awards ending the season in March.

The celebrities are bringing their A game on the red carpet tonight, and we're particularly enamored with Ariana Grande's breathtaking look. The acclaimed actress and singer, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress as Glinda in Wicked: For Good, floated down the red carpet in a very apt pale-pink embellished gown from designer Alberta Ferretti, accessorized with shimmering Swarovski jewelry and styled by Law Roach. In-the-know fashion insiders may have clocked that the stunning look seems to be a reference to American actress and singer Diahann Carroll's gown she wore at the 41st Academy Awards in 1969—hands down one of the prettiest Oscars looks of all time.

When we think of Leighton Meester and fashion together, Blair Waldorf and her many ensembles during the OG Gossip Girl days will likely always be what comes to mind first. That said, the actress's recent run of red carpet looks is quietly starting to rival even Blair's most iconic outfits. A liquid-like Versace gown at the 2025 Golden Globes, for instance, garnered some much-deserved attention, as did the minimalist St. John number—a chocolate-brown satin column dress—she wore to the 2024 SAG Awards. But it's the lilac-colored strapless creation she chose for tonight's 2026 Critics Choice Awards that takes the cake.

Meester selected a fitted, slightly sheer dress from Carolina Herrera's spring 2026 collection. Though the model who debuted it on the runway wore the dress with a slew of accessories, including a purple minaudière, black velvet headband, and matching black pumps, Meester went a simpler route, only wearing a pair of chandelier earrings from Chopard's Haute Joaillerie Collection in 18k white gold with pink sapphires and diamonds, and a few rings, including a flower-shaped Chopard ring from the L'Heure du Diamant Collection in 18k white gold with 0.86-carats of diamonds and her engagement ring from husband Adam Brody, who is nominated in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role in Netflix's Nobody Wants This.

Accessories proved to be unnecessary, especially given the tiny details all over her purple gown, designed by the American brand's creative director, Wes Gordon. The color of the dress is equally stunning, which is probably why it's shaping up to be one of 2026's top trends, having also appeared in Chloé's S/S 26 collection as well as Valentino's. Black and red are classics on the red carpet for a reason, but Meester's lilac alternative proved that going an alternative route is never a bad idea.

Before we touch on the celebrity looks, here’s what we know so far. Alongside Anok Yai’s win for Model of the Year and Little Simz’s Cultural Innovator honour, Sam Wolfe will receive the Pandora Style Moment of the Year award.

Several Special Recognition accolades will also be presented this evening, celebrating Brunello Cucinelli, Delphine Arnault, Dover Street Market, 15 Years of BFC Fashion Trust and Fashion East. While Kate Hawley has been named Costume Designer of the Year.

Perhaps the most significant award to be announced this evening is Designer of the Year. This year’s nominees include Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Dior, Martine Rose, Willy Chavarria, Rick Owens, Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu, and Glenn Martens for Diesel and Maison Margiela.

Celebrities are beginning to trickle in. Laura Weir, CEO of the British Fashion Council, has arrived with BFC Chair David Pemsel—and host Colman Domingo has now joined them on the carpet.

As the celebrities start to pour in, the Who What Wear team is already debating which red carpet looks we’re most excited to see. With a guest list that reads like a who’s who of the industry’s chicest—and coolest—it’s almost impossible to choose.

The celebrities are really pouring in now. So far, I'm struck by Raye's sweeping silver gown, Jean Campbell's sleek LBD and Ellie Goulding's red carpet pregnancy announcement!

Lila Moss has arrived in a 16Arlington dress that manages to capture so many of the season's favourite trends. The feathers! The knee-length cut! The sleek grey shade! All of the most important trends in one stunning look.

2026 and 2027 brides, take note! The Fashion Awards are proving to be a goldmine for bridal styling inspiration—just look at Ceval Omar, Gizem Celik, and Zara Martin, all looking like they could be walking down the aisle tonight.

The rain and wind is yet to abate, but Alexa Chung has come prepared, wearing a Chloé funnel neck jacket dress from the brand's spring/summer 2026 collection.

The Model of the Year has arrived! Anok Yai stepped onto the red carpet in a sweeping butter yellow gown and diamond earrings.

With the carpet wrapping up, I've gotten our editors to weigh in on their favourite looks. First up, Megan Storey, our Social Media Editor, has spoken—Celia Imrie’s red velvet cloak is an absolute winner.

While Assistant Social Media Editor Annie Wheatland-Clinch can't get over Lily's look: "She looks straight off the Titanic with the high neck and lace detail. And, this gold/yellow shade is so Christmas camp! Her shoes are like little presents!"

Second pregnancy alert! Sienna Miller just arrived in a white sheer gown, debuting her baby bump in style.

Wrapping up her performance, singer Raye reflected on her Fashion Awards journey, recalling that for her first appearance, she wore a sheer Givenchy dress paired with a Primark thong. Tonight, she's gone for glamour in a metallic silver Ferrari gown.

British Menswear Designer of the Year has been announced as Grace Wales Bonner. The London designer takes home the award for the second year in a row.

Sarah Burton, creative director of Givenchy, wins the British Womenswear Designer of the Year.

Dilara Findikoglu just won the prestigious Vanguard award. Thanking herself “for never giving up and always believing", she dedicated her award to all the misfits in the world, saying, “London is the place for us”.

One thing all Who What Wear editors can count on as we head into fall is that the kick-off of awards season will bring with it enough beauty inspiration to carry us through the end of the year. This year is the 77th anniversary of the award show and will take place at L.A.'s stunning Peacock Theatre with Grammy-nominated stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze hosting it. Apple TV+'s For All Mankind actress Kryss Marshall's red carpet look is all about the blush. The actress opted for berry-toned cheeks paired with a glossy chocolate lip, mauve eye shadow, and a glowy highlight on the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose.

The Pitt's Shabana Azeez stepped onto the red carpet with flushed, rose-toned cheeks, matte pink lips, and a sultry cat eye for a romantic look that perfectly complemented her eye-catching scarlet dress.

It's no secret that Jenny Slate knows how to wear a bob to perfection, but we're obsessed with this "wet" micro bob look. This time around, she went the French-girl route by pairing it with a rich berry-toned lip, minimalistic eye makeup, and bold brows.

Tonight is shaping up to be the awards show red carpet with some of the best French bob inspiration. Take Cruel Intentions' Sarah Catherine Hook, for example, who wore hers with the perfect amount of texture and tucked behind an ear. We also can't help but gush over her matte, berry-toned lips.

I Know What You Did Last Summer's Chase Sui Wonders has become one of her generation's newest scream queens, but she also deserves an award for this no-makeup makeup look. We'll be copying her glowy skin and trying our hand at groomed, bold brows and doll-like eyes (hello, lashes!).

Another The Pitts cast member, Supriya Ganesh, was photographed on the red carpet with a dewy complexion, bronzed glow, and pink lips that her hair, pulled into an elegant updo, shows off beautifully. We also can't get enough of these full brows.

Italian actress, model, and content creator Marta Pozzan walked the red carpet with a French-girl chic look featuring matte mauve lips, a peach flush, a classic cat eye, and smoky cut-crease eye shadow, finished off with a sleek, coiffed bob.

It’s the first Monday in May, and the streets of New York City are buzzing with anticipation. As the first flashes of cameras begin to illuminate the iconic steps of the Met, one question echoes through the air: Who will flawlessly capture this year's theme best?

The first contender vying for that title? None other than Met Gala co-chair Lewis Hamilton, who just graced the blue floral carpet in an ensemble that is equally stunning and symbolic. The Formula One driver arrived wearing a custom-made suit by Grace Wales Bonner, a Met host committee member, alongside studs and a brooch by Briony Raymond Asscher and an ivory beret by Stephen Jones Millinery.

The deeper meaning behind Hamilton's look is what truly sets it apart. Stylist Eric McNeal shared an insightful glimpse into the inspiration behind the design on his Instagram, noting that "the color ivory denotes purity and status; cowries pass from hand to hand, the regal sash turns shamanic. Ancestral beads and freshwater pearls shine with garnet-coloured diamonds...eternal amulets. Forever fresh."

"I'm trying to come to my senses," shares Rashi Gaur, founder of @hamazinglew, a style account founded in 2018 that's dedicated to breaking down Sir Lewis Hamilton's looks. "He has outdone himself at the [Met] Gala every year that he has attended. This has to be my favorite look on him overall because of how personal the theme is to him and how well Eric [McNeal] and he executed it. Literally everything is perfect."

I’ve gotten it down to a routine. The evening of every award show, I struggle to figure out what platform is streaming the red carpet, sign up for whatever 30-day trial is required, and watch with wide eyes as hordes of glittering celebrities slink down the red carpet, expertly posing to show off their recent runway acquirements or archival fashion pulls. From the gowns to the glam, there are a million details to drink up—though, the one that I always find myself fixated on (and plotting how to re-create myself) is the makeup.

We’ve all seen the heavy-blush trend blossom on and off the red carpet, middle parts sweep the scene, and so many more beauty trends start on the red carpet in award seasons past. Well, now that this one has officially come to a close with the 97th Academy Awards (Oscars, for the commoner), I took it upon myself to take a holistic look at the beauty Venn diagram of this year’s many red carpets, from film to music, to see which looks had the most crossover—and some of the most in-demand makeup artists from this season corroborated.

“I’ve noticed people leaning to a transparent approach to red carpet makeup—not so many heavy pigments and bold colors right now,” says celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. Responsible for Emma Stone’s gloriously glowing look at the Oscars and Sophie Thatcher’s retro-inspired glam, Goodwin looks to the stars as the ultimate trendsetters versus letting herself be influenced by outside ideals—though, these are the looks that set the course for the seasons to come.

“I always tailor each makeup to the personality and unique style of whoever I’m working with to bring out the version of them that feels the most authentically them," she adds. "Whenever I can do that, I feel proud.” Below, the three makeup trends that booked and busy MUAs were repeatedly asked for this glitzy award season.

Glowy Skin

From “glass skin” to slugging, it’s no secret that celebrities will try anything to achieve glowing skin—especially on the carpet. According to the pros, it all starts with skincare and facial sculpting.

“Hydrated skin is the key to any successful makeup in my opinion, but too much product and foundation slides right off,” explains Goodwin. “It’s about striking the right balance.” The artist says skincare prep is where most of her efforts go because “glowing skin is always in,” no matter the look.

To perfect her clients’ canvases, Goodwin has a no-fail routine. “I start by spraying IS Clinical Copper Firming Mist and IS Clinical Pro-Heal Serum Advance+, then trace a NuFace along the jawline and under-eye area,” she explains. Goodwin then gets to work on the eyes first, keeping eye masks (her favorites from Bioeffect) on until it’s time to move on to complexion.

Whether this means a sun-kissed bronze, a light-reflecting blush, or a dewy visage, celebs keep the glow going far beyond serums and masks. “My most requested makeup look has been a radiant, glowing complexion with fresh peachy-pink tones on the cheeks,” says Rokael Lizama, who has a client list boasting Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian. But the radiance doesn’t stop there—he often finished off each look by accentuating the high points of the face and décolleté with a blendable highlighter, such as this rosy Glow Maximizer from Dior.

Old Hollywood Rouge

We’ve been in blush zeitgeist for a few years now, and this award season confirmed that this trend is nowhere near slowing down. Sabrina Carpenter’s makeup artist, Carolina Gonzalez, led the charge with “Old Hollywood” lips and cheeks decorating the star’s many red carpet appearances, embracing a minimal eye with a rich lip. Several of Gonzalez’s clients this season wanted the “romantic” look of skin-forward glam with high-intensity blush. Though, she added that “full lips and fluffy lashes are still a thing.”

But while blush swept the scene for yet another award season, Gonzalez sees the color wheel tipping into deeper territory than the pastel pinks that may pop into your head. The makeup artist foresees “burgundies, deep browns, [and] deeper reds” painting the lips and cheeks of the fashion-forward in the months to come, no matter how unseasonal that might sound, because of these shades’ classic natures.

Chelsea agrees, especially as the weather becomes more mild. “With spring coming up, my clients have been loving a good blush moment. It brings youthfulness to the skin,” she explains. While the artist also agrees that bold lip colors will never leave the awards look book, stars seem to be taking a less polished approach to application. “Red lips will always be perfect for a red carpet, but I think a smudged overlined lip color has been pretty popular as well,” Chelsea adds. A bitten-lip moment, perhaps?

Cashmere Eyes

Silky, subtle—the elegant eyes we’ve seen on the red carpets this year feel like the older, fancier sisters of natural glam. Instead of leaning on dark eye shadows for statement eyes, Hollywood’s most in-demand artists have been approaching A-list eyes with a lighter touch—a smoky eye with shading as soft as cashmere.

“My clients love a sultry smoke on the outer corner and a bit of sparkle in the inner part of the lid,” muses Lizama, adding a “gorgeous pop” in photographs. With a dusting of taupe smoke along Demi Moore’s lids at the SAG Awards and a golden version completing Beyoncé’s ethereal glam at the Grammys, these silken kinds of smoky eyes were a constant for the makeup artist this season.

The main takeaways from this red carpet trend? A smoky eye doesn’t need to be dark to make a statement. As I watched celebrities step onto the Oscars 2025 red carpet on Sunday night, one thing stood out: the near-absence of the sheer, barely-there dresses that have long dominated Hollywood’s biggest night.

For years, the Oscars has served as a stage for boundary-pushing, skin-baring fashion, with celebrities embracing diaphanous gowns that left little to the imagination. But this year, something shifted. Instead of sheer panels and transparent fabrics, the red carpets (both for the main event and the official Vanity Fair afterparty) were filled with a new kind of risqué dressing—one that leaned into structure and sensuality. Enter the "underwear dress" trend.

The nearly-naked trend isn’t gone; it has simply evolved. Where sheer dresses once ruled, the focus has now shifted to lingerie-inspired details—think corsetry, exposed bras and bodices that borrow from the world of boudoir. This shift marks a departure from overt exposure towards a more sophisticated take on sensuality.

Case in point: Monica Barbaro’s breathtaking Dior gown. Opting for a pink-and-silver dress with a high empire waistline, the A Complete Unknown star showcased a voluminous silhouette with thick box-pleat detailing and pocket cut-outs. Whilst the lower half of the dress provided full coverage, the upper portion featured a bra-inspired cut. The effect? A look that felt both daring and undeniably red-carpet worthy.

Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong’o interpreted the trend with refinement and poise. Her Chanel gown featured a chainmail bodice that cinched at the waist, whilst a pearl-embellished bust peeked through, creating a balance between opulence and playfulness that nodded to the underwear dress trend in a subtle and wearable way.

Spanning generations, this emerging trend was also picked up by young actor Josephine Reitman, who opted for a black gown featuring a sheer corset bodice—a contemporary take on the structured silhouettes of the past. The sheer detailing was present but controlled, reinforcing the idea that fashion is moving away from total transparency in favour of strategic reveals.

Whilst corset detailing and exposed bras have long played a role in red-carpet fashion, their presence hasn’t felt this dominant in years. Rather than relying on sheer fabrics alone, this trend adds a sense of intrigue through clever design choices, making it both more wearable and infinitely more interesting.
