Actress, producer, and writer Ashley Benson has a new title to add to her résumé: entrepreneur. While Benson may be known for her on-screen work in the hit series Pretty Little Liars and in films such as Spring Breakers, she has a new project under her belt.

Benson’s latest passion project is her fragrance line, Ash by Ashley Benson. Ever since she was a teen, Benson has been obsessed with fragrances and mixing and matching scents. "Fragrance, for me, has just always been something that I’ve personally made for myself,” she says. In the latest episode of Who What Wear With Hillary Kerr, Benson shares the catalyst behind her own fragrance line, the inspiration behind her two scents—New York and Paris—and how she’d dress for various occasions in each city.

You just launched your own brand, Ash by Ashley Benson. There are two signature scents. One is based off of New York, and one is based off of Paris. There are so many different categories in this world if you are interested in being an entrepreneur—why fragrance for you?

Fragrance, for me, has just always been something that I've personally made for myself. I always had a signature scent, and it could be so many different perfumes or colognes or oils or lotions that I combined for years. Going back to mid-teens, I would do that because I love scents. I always pay attention to what people smell like because I just like to smell good. I never wanted to smell like everybody else though. I always wanted to make it my own, so I started doing that. All my friends were always like, "You smell so good. What are you wearing?" I wouldn't tell them what I was wearing because I didn't want them to smell like me, because it was so unique. I just had a nose for specific scents, and I'm very into incense and candles.

I think scent is a very personal thing. I feel like they [fans] can kind of understand me as Ashley and not Ashley as the characters they've seen I've played. It was a very fun project the last two years exploring how we would do this whole thing, and now, it's out, and I'm really excited.

We're going to play a small game of New York versus Paris, inspired by your scents. I'm going to name an activity or a place, and you are going to tell me which city does it better and what you'd wear while doing it. A walk in the park. Which city does it better, New York or Paris? And what would you wear for said walk?

I would normally say New York because I also live there and I walk all the time. A walk in the park, I feel like it'd be Paris for me because I don't live there. I think it's way more special. I would probably wear a pair of jeans, flat boots that are comfortable, a trench coat, sunglasses and have a croissant in hand and a coffee or baguette or a bottle of wine and just sit in the park and have myself a little cheese plate and wine.

What about if you were going to the theater?

I would say New York. A little bit more dressy. … Dress pants and a pair of heeled boots with a turtleneck and a trench.

What about to a concert? Which city does it better, and what would you wear?

New York. I think I'd wear jeans, a T-shirt, boots, and a leather jacket.

What about a dinner date?

Paris and I think I would wear heels. Maybe a silk slip and a nice overcoat on top.

What about brunch?

Either. I can't pick brunch. I'll say New York. For brunch, weirdly, I would probably wear sweats, T-shirt, overcoat, and probably Converse. Very casual and comfy.

So, Ashley Benson is currently in NYC looking very chic in outfits that she could certainly pass her for a resident of The City That Never Sleeps (take a look at her Instagram for further proof). But there's one outfit, in particular, that I'm here to discuss—one shoe trend, in particular, that is.

At first glance, when you look at her outfit, you probably see the amazing coat, but even more groundbreaking (in my opinion, at least) is her boots. Next up, the outdated winter boot trends we're ditching, and what we're buying instead.

"Oh God!” Ashley Benson nearly falls backward when we show her a red carpet photo from 2006. It’s the summer premiere of Monster House and she is wearing a black lace camisole, pleated mini skirt, and black pumps. A long knotted pearl necklace and marbled pink resin cuff finish the look. It’s a far cry from the elevated style we’ve come to know and love of Benson in recent years, but hey, it was 2006 and what was considered "in fashion” was very different back then, so let’s cut her some slack. 

I'm playing one of my favorite Who What Wear games with the actress, Would You Wear It Now, via Zoom and getting the back story on some of her favorite (a gorgeous Hugo Boss coat worn as a dress) and not-so-favorite (a button-down chambray Zara number) looks from the past 14 years. And while she’s had quite the fashion evolution, one thing that has never changed for Benson is her impeccable taste in eyewear. Whether it’s a classic aviator, something more modern, or a sleek round style, she knows good sunnies. So much so, in fact, she became a founding partner of the eyewear brand Privé Revaux. And she, along with fellow actor Matt Bomer, are the brains behind Privé’s latest capsule collection, a gender-neutral line featuring five new designs.

What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed in the morning? A well-rounded morning routine sets the tone for the day and gets you prepped—both mentally and physically—before diving into a packed schedule filled with emails, chores, happy hours, workouts, and more. Disclaimer: The term #relationshipsgoals usually makes me cringe with distaste. Not only is it putting said couple on a complete pedestal (where we, and a bunch of nameless Instagram followers, are the judges, apparently), but the image it conjures is often wildly unrealistic and probably untrue.

But for Taylor and Justin Norris, I have to make an exception. After making names for themselves individually in the fitness industry, they joined forces to start LIT Method (which stands for low-impact training), a gym that specializes in creating workouts that prevent fitness-related injuries. With a background in physical therapy, they both were passionate about creating a fitness program that was both doable and safe for everyone—meaning there's no running, jumping, or even using hand weights. The studio has only been around for a few years but has quickly blown up as a popular workout for celebs (like Ashley Benson and the cast of one of my favorite reality television shows Vanderpump Rules) and fitness junkies alike. The best part is they still run the business as a tight-knit team.

6 a.m.

My extremely loud and obnoxious alarm goes off, and usually, the snooze button is hit at least once before my husband and I wake up. Being in the fitness world, early mornings are a way of life. We both start the day with at least 20 minutes of reading in the morning to kick-start the day. The book I am reading currently? Unstoppable Teams.

6:25 a.m.

I wash my face with my Elemis Superfood Facial Wash, spray Elemis Lavender Toner, and put on Beboe Therapies' CBD Facial Serum and a Sagely CBD Lotion on my body. (I'm obsessed with the stuff.)

6:30 a.m.

I mosey on downstairs and pour myself a cold brew nitro coffee with Picnik MCT creamer and make the hubs an almond milk latte. Our household is centered around routines, so we always eat breakfast together, and usually, it’s the same thing. We are all about consistency! I make an egg white omelet and a side of fruit for Justin and an avocado toast with two sunny-side eggs for me.

7 a.m.

While eating breakfast, I usually catch up on emails, scroll through Instagram, and post on the LIT Method social media account. 

7:45 a.m.

I’m off to LIT to take a class and check in on the studio. I throw on my LIT swag with my Puma sneakers, and we’re off.

8:15 a.m.

I arrive at LIT Method in West Hollywood. We utilize badass water rowers with a unique resistance-band training system. It is the perfect workout that you can do for a lifetime!

9:45 a.m.

Finally, I leave LIT Method and head back to our office to take on the day!

With something for every member of the family, The Brentwood Country Mart is the perfect spot for celebrities with or without their kids.
