Nothing is off the table—this summer is going to be well-rounded. That means art, culture, music, and sports.

If, by some chance, you’re unaware of all the happenings from now until September, don’t worry. I’ll clue you in. Harry Styles is going on tour—that’s right. After stops in Amsterdam, London, São Paulo, and Mexico City, he’ll be in NYC for a 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden. Ariana Grande returns to the stage too with her version of The Eras Tour. Oh, and in the world of sports, the FIFA World Cup, US Open, and British Grand Prix are all competing for our attention.

If your Instagram algorithm looks anything like mine, then chances are you’ve already been privy to the outfit changes and setlist spoilers of Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour. Returning after a six-and-a-half-year hiatus since the Sweetener Tour, Grande has graced us with her dazzling vocals and storytelling performances once again. Pulling from Dangerous Woman; Thank U, Next; Positions; and her latest single from the highly anticipated Petal (expected July 31), Grande takes her audience on a journey through her past eras and into the future. In simpler words, the setlist is stacked.

Where to stay: Grande opened the tour in Oakland, California, and will be making stops across North American cities, from Los Angeles to Austin to Brooklyn to Montreal, plus a 10-night stay in London at the O2 arena, until September 1. If L.A. is the vibe, we recommend the Fairmont Century Plaza for its central location. If Austin’s food scene sounds enticing, the Carpenter Hotel or the Austin Motel is the move. What to Pack

I’m a Jersey girl born and raised, and my father is a devoted football fan—correct, we say football in this house—so New York New Jersey Stadium hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026 finals is a truly historic moment: 48 teams, 104 matches, 16 host cities, one winner. Argentina is the returning champion after beating France in the 2022 games. All eyes will be on France’s Kylian Mbappé, Spain’s Lamine Yamal, and of course, Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who has racked up over 22 years in the sport. England and Brazil are also fan favorites.

Where to stay: The USA, Mexico, and Canada will host many of the matchups, from L.A. to Monterrey to Vancouver. But the finals? That’s New York New Jersey Stadium, baby. You’ll never find me bashing my home state, but if you’re going to make the trip to the East Coast, NYC should be your destination. The Mercer Hotel located in SoHo, or, if you’re down to get the true Jersey experience, try the George in Montclair. Though, be warned: NJ Transit will be an experience in itself. Be early and be prepared for delays.

What to Pack

The US Open is home to legacy names and unforgettable moments in tennis history. It is where sisters Venus and Serena Williams faced each other in the 2001 women’s final, where Billie Jean King demanded equal prize money for both men and women, and where Althea Gibson became the first Black player to compete in the US Nationals (now the US Open). Whether you attend the US Open to see or be seen, there is lots of excitement around the players (ahem, Naomi Osaka's outfits), celebrities sitting courtside, and the usual popped collars, tennis skirts, and preppy windbreakers.

Where to stay: Held in Flushing, Queens, the US Open is another NYC summer event we recommend staying in Manhattan for. The Kimberly Hotel and the Pendry Manhattan West are both a five-minute walk to the express 7 train.

What to Pack

Returning to Madison Square Garden, Harry Styles will be performing an impressive 30-show residency beginning August 26 and ending October 31. (There are rumors of another “Harryween” taking place.) His latest album release, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, is expected to make up a majority of the setlist. “American Girls” seems like a fitting choice—you know, being in NYC and the Zoë Kravitz of it all. On the other hand, the Berlin influence is undeniable. Keep that in mind when planning your concert outfits. Think five-inch-inseam (or less) athletic shorts, an air of nonchalance, and Chanel-inspired suitings—yes, I’m talking about Styles’s 2026 BRIT Awards red carpet look and his post-SNL leopard-print Chanel Métiers d’Art 2026 jacket.

Where to stay: Having lived in Midtown NYC for many years, I recommend a neighborhood such as the East Village or the LES. The Bowery Hotel or the Standard East Village will be not only a welcoming return after the concert but also a great location for sightseeing, brunching, and shopping. That, and the atmosphere is prime for celebrity spotting.

What to Pack

It’s only been a few months of life post-"Bieberchella," and I’m already looking for my next soul-stirring performance. Lollapalooza’s lineup just might be the solution. Headliners include Lorde, Charli XCX, Olivia Dean, Jennie, Tate McRae, and that’s just to name a few. The four-day outdoor festival takes place in Downtown Chicago from July 30 to August 2. Taking into consideration this year’s Coachella fashion trends, thick belts, bikini tops, hot pants, and bug-eye sunglasses are likely to make an appearance alongside Sombr, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Little Simz, who are set to perform on day one.

Where to stay: When traveling for a music festival, convenience and discretion are key. The Silversmith Hotel and The Drake are both located in Downtown Chicago just a few minutes away from the venue, or, in the Silversmith’s case, an easy two blocks away.

What to Pack

How a fashion person does Paris: a latte from Café Nuances, a trip to Officine Universelle Buly, and an outfit pic at the Grand Palais Matisse 1941-1954 exhibit. The showcase offers views of Matisse’s later works, with over 300 paintings, textiles, stained glass, and cutout gouaches on display. Dressing for a museum visit is an art in itself. Matisse’s work is already filled with such beautiful hues; a limited color palette is perhaps best. That means elegant combinations of black and white or tapping into his Nus Bleu series by wearing cobalt-blue trousers. The exhibit will be on display now until July 26.

Where to stay: To experience Paris like a true local, discovering that hidden spot is essential. The Hôtel Madame Rêve is just that. If you prefer a more star-studded experience, the Hôtel Château Voltaire is a better fit.

What to Pack

From July 3 to 5, die-hard motorsport fans will descend on Silverstone, a town 56 miles outside London, for the oldest race on the Formula 1 calendar: the British Grand Prix. (Fun fact: Silverstone Circuit hosted the first race of the inaugural F1 World Championship all the way back in 1950.) It’s a sprint format in 2026, meaning attendees and viewers at home will get double the competitive action. There are two qualifying sessions, two races, and plenty of World Championship points to go around, though. This season, there's a high likelihood they'll all go toward Kimi Antonelli’s tally. That said, given Lewis Hamilton’s historic record in the UK, there's always a chance he makes magic happen through Maggots and Becketts. Beyond the drivers, eyes will be on celebrity and WAG sightings. Speaking of, Lily Muni He's and Alexandra Leclerc's paddock 'fits are a master class in how to dress for a Formula 1 race. And who knows, we might get a glimpse of Kim Kardashian.

Where to stay: The British Grand Prix is the perfect excuse to find a cozy place in the English countryside on Airbnb and live out your own version of The Holiday. I found this White Cottage in Abthorpe just a 10-minute drive from the circuit. But if you're up for a ride through the rolling hills, try Estelle Manor or Soho Farmhouse.

(We won’t soon forget Hacks’ Meg Stalter and Paul W. Downs’s iconic re-creation of Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet’s matching orange getups at the New York City premiere of Marty Supreme.) But above the viral noise, there was one emerging trend that piqued the interest of us beauty-minded editors, so we’re calling it now: Romantic, retro hairstyles will be all over the red carpets from now on.

Blame it on the impending release of Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights or general anticipation for Valentine’s Day, but we can’t deny the swoon-worthy yet decidedly dated styles making a comeback on the first major red carpet of 2026. Perhaps Grande got a sneak peek of her Wicked: For Good co-star Jonathan Bailey’s fourth season of Bridgerton because something about this style feels oh so Daphne. Grande’s hairstylist Alyx Liu fashioned her freshly dyed tresses—transitioned from Glinda blonde to an elevated Cat Valentine cinnamon by celebrity colorist Brandon Pietsch—into a romantic bun, complete with wispy bangs and cascading barrel curls.

Our editors were quick to catch the Stevie Nicks reference in A'zion's voluminous style last night. The I Love LA star paired a glittering batwing dress with a full head of '70s-esque curls, including a smattering of textured bangs across her forehead. In a red carpet interview with Deadline, the Marty Supreme alum addressed the wig allegations regarding her bouncy, long curls. "There’s a whole debate, ‘Is it a wig? Is it not?’ I guess we’ll never know," she kids. "The gag is, in the New York premiere [of Marty Supreme] it took me five hours to do my hair, and everyone thinks it's a wig."

Shrinking's Jessica Williams got dolled up for the 2026 Critics Choice Awards with a '60s-inspired half-up, half-down 'do by celebrity hairstylist SherriAnn Cole. Her inky tresses were styled straight with softly curled ends, with the front section of her hair slicked into a half-up style. Williams then tied a black ribbon over her hair tie to pull in the satin bow from her custom Bora Aksu dress, styled by Sarah Slutsky Tooley.

When I think of winter, I usually think of darker hues: burgundy, deep green, and, yes, dark-wash denim. While we can wear whatever we want, we tend to lean toward the "rules" of seasonal dressing and trends. Ariana Grande chose to break one of those archaic rules and wore a jeans color usually associated with spring and summer as part of a winter outfit: light-wash jeans. I never had this jeans color trend on my bingo card for winter 2025, but Grande's endorsement of light-wash jeans is making me consider it.

Listen. I know it sounds kind of unexpected, but isn’t that what fashion is all about? While out in New York promoting Wicked this week, Grande wore light-wash jeans as part of a very chic ensemble also consisting of a black trench coat, a bag that's fresh off the Dior S/S 26 runway, and pointed-toe boots. I’m usually one to wear dark-wash denim for the winter, but this outfit has me rethinking that habit. Styling them with a nice pair of boots and other all-black items really made the jeans pop in a way that was elegant, cool, and seasonally appropriate.

From where I sit, it seems pretty good to be Ariana Grande right now. Since receiving a slew of well-deserved nominations for her role as Glinda in Wicked, Grande has been a fixture on red carpets around the world, dressed impeccably for each. Grande and stylist Mimi Cuttrell (if anyone knows how to style an It girl, it's her) have stayed true to the whimsical, magical, ethereal theme of the film and Glinda herself, opting for a mix of frothy yet modern dresses from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Givenchy (to name a few) that Glinda would certainly feel right at home in, along with sleek, high-fashion looks from labels like Loewe and Khaite and a few jaw-dropping vintage pieces from the archives.

Grande has dozens of epic looks for the many award season–related events thus far, so when I say it was very difficult to narrow it down for the purpose of this story, I'm not exaggerating. But narrow it down I did. We still have the SAG Awards and Oscars (among others) in the pipeline, so surely some of her best looks are yet to come, but I honestly don't know how it could get much better than some of the ones she's already worn. I don't think I'll ever be over the fashion feast that was the Wicked press tour. Sorry, but I'm still very much here for method dressing! That said, if I had to pick a favorite look from the jam-packed three-week blip (it felt more like one short day, and I miss it oh so much), it would have to be Ariana Grande's iridescent Atelier Versace gown complete with a Swarovski necklace and—as it turns out—a confidential new highlighter.

"I wore it secretly and subtly as a part of my base and on my body at the Mexico City Wicked premiere because it matched that dress perfectly," Grande tells me about the glow-inducing hero. Of course, the highlighter comes from Grande's own brand, R.E.M. Beauty. On January 24, the brand will debut its Dreamglow Highlight Serum in three luminous shades: Goddess, a bronzy solution with a sunkissed effect; Aura, an iridescent, twinkling pearl; and Honeypot, a warm, sparkling champagne. While you could theoretically tap them directly on your cheekbones like a traditional highlighter, they really shine (pun intended) as an allover glimmering base. Apply one to two pumps on bare skin pre-foundation, or feel free to mix it with your complexion product of choice for a more dramatic effect.

"I've been secretly wearing some of these new shades depending on what type of effect I'm going for," Grande continues. Aura, for instance, gives off a dreamy, ethereal aesthetic that "feels so uniquely and specifically R.E.M.," and it was practically made for that shimmering Versace gown. "I've also been wearing the shade Honeypot almost daily as a first step to give me that glowy base," she notes. Essentially, think of it as a hydrating, glow-inducing serum to make you appear lit from within thanks to light-reflecting crystal pigments.

R.E.M. devotees might notice a resemblance to the beloved Galinda Glow Drops from the brand's limited-edition Wicked collection—great eye! Another fan-favorite and sadly out-of-stock formula? R.E.M.'s So Popular pH Adaptive Lip Oil, which reacts to the natural pH level of your lips for a completely unique pink tint. "We always knew we wanted to bring this sort of everyday magic into our core collection," Grande says. After seeing all the online love for the truly captivating shade, she knew it was time to make it a brand staple. Enter three new shades of R.E.M.'s Essential Drip Glossy Balm: Cosmo, a warm, peachy pink; On Ice, a juicy clear; and Cotton Candy, a pH-adaptive shade that transforms from blue to personalized pink. "I love watching it evolve in real time," says Grande of the pH-reactive sorcery.

I ask Grande to select a favorite newcomer (had to!), a task the star deems nearly impossible. The Glossy Balms, after all, are "so essential and delicious," and the Highlight Serums have a depth "[Grande hasn't] seen before in products like this." She shares, "Each of them have multidimensional tones that make them so unique." And we have yet to discuss the brand's ultra-dewy Eclipse Blush & Lip Stick, which now comes in four new shades—stunning coral, bubblegum pink, rosy mauve, and deep terra-cotta. In true Galindafied fashion, they really do fuse to your skin like magic. "Yeah, I am so sorry. I cannot pick!" she admits. Pop stars have shaped the beauty and style scenes since, well, forever, but today's crop of It girls have left their marks on virtually every aspect of culture. "Brat" green cemented itself as the color of the summer (accompanied by a confident, carefree way of life). "That's that me espresso" became an acceptable clapback in our everyday vernacular. Beyoncé's call for "denim on denim on denim on denim" inspired a tidal wave of Canadian tuxedos. I could go on! Our favorite artists are serving endless inspiration, which means it only makes sense to close out 2024 with some pop star–inspired holiday looks. Think Sabrina Carpenter's intense blush, Charli XCX's's grungy liner, Tyla's megawatt highlight, and Ariana Grande's feather-soft (and Glinda-fied) glam.

So for our first installment of Beauty's Night Out, we spoke to the makeup artists responsible for creating those influential signature beats. (Pun very much intended.) Follow along as they discuss all the steps, products, and behind-the-scenes tips to nail each celeb look, no matter what soirée you have on the docket. The world is your dance floor.

Charli XCX is the poster child for lived-in, party-girl makeup, which, according to Valentino Beauty global makeup artist Yadim Carranza, will certainly turn heads this holiday season. "I don’t know if her signature look necessarily screams holiday beauty. I mean, it’s basically morning-after, 'party-girl' makeup," he caveats. "But I think what’s cool about today is that we’re less and less concerned about specific beauty being deemed 'appropriate' for certain occasions and more interested in radical self-expression." A "morning-after, party-girl" vibe may not scream holidays, but you better believe it screams brat—and we're seeing no signs of the edgy aesthetic slowing down.

To emulate Charli's signature grungy eyes, Carranza first dusts a taupe eye shadow (shade When in Paris from Valentino Beauty's Color-Flip Eyeshadow Palette) on her lids and lower lash line. "This gives a subtle tone around the eyes that gives that 'I’ve been out partying' look she loves," he explains. Then he tightlines her eyes with Valentino's Colorgraph Eyeliner in Rockstud Noir, smudging it out with his fingers or a brush to achieve a slightly messy effect (depending on how "grunge" you want to go). "She also loves when I pull the liner out at the outer ends of the eyes and blend out slightly to appear more 'snatched,'" he says. Next comes a swipe of mascara on curled lashes, but it's not always a must-have. "Lately, she’s been into a bare lash," Carranza adds.

"Charli doesn’t like too much on her skin; I don’t even use foundation on her," he says regarding her base. "Not wearing much on the skin really adds to the overall grunge aesthetic that Charli is known for." Instead, he'll prep her complexion with a dense moisturizer—he loves Augustinus Bader's The Rich Cream but recommends Avène's Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream for a less spendy option—then layer on Valentino's V-Lighter in Rose as a luminous primer. "Next, I use a bit of the Very Valentino Concealer just on areas that need some coverage or to even out skin tone," he shares.

The pop icon also "loves a bit of contour," so Carranza carves her cheeks with Kevyn Aucoin's Sculpting Contour Powder in Medium, which he calls a "perfect cool brown." As for blush, he'll actually dab the Spike Valentino Buttery Matte Lipstick directly on her cheeks, nose, and forehead before blending it out with his fingers or a dense brush. It provides just a little extra flush, he notes. "Try it in shades Better Crying in a Limo or Couture in the Streets," he adds (the latter being Charli's favorite!).

It also provides a perfect segue into lip products, which is always a cool nude (very '90s grunge). Carranza first lines Charli's lips, drawing barely outside of the natural lip line for a slightly poutier effect. Then he applies her lipstick—Couture in the Streets—with his fingertips for a lived-in look. "Try applying some product to the back of your hand then picking up the product with your finger and lightly dabbing it on [your] lips," he explains. "Don’t worry about it being too perfect or precious. It should read as more of a stain than a perfectly stamped-on lip."

For those who want to add more of a festive flair, Carranza recommends adding more sparkle to the equation. Try topping the taupe eye shadow with a shimmery champagne shade or applying it to the high points of your cheekbones for a glitzy highlighting effect. You could even add an allover dusting of glitter—Carranza loves the clean, biodegradable options from Submission Beauty—to really nail the "grungy party girl" aesthetic.

Your Night-Out Staples

For those craving more of a sun goddess glow than grungy glam, allow me to point you in the direction of Tyla. The singer is known for a bronzy, sun-kissed beat (her Met look—need I say more?) that's actually super wearable year-round. Hey, a megawatt glow knows no season. Plus, "there's nothing like showing up to a holiday party feeling glowy, [especially] when you haven't been getting enough sun," her makeup artist Matthew Fishman tells me. I second that!

The key to said glow is a dewy foundation—namely, Fenty Beauty's Soft’Lit Naturally Luminous Hydrating Longwear Foundation, which has a "glowy, not oily" finish Fishman loves. "You always want to be strategic when creating a glow," he explains. "If it's too glowy, it can translate as too shiny on the carpet, and then it just doesn't look good in photos."

After powdering the center areas of Tyla's face (because, yes, even glowy looks require some mattifying balance), he applies Chanel's Les Beiges cream bronzer (it has "such a fine finish," he says) and Charlotte Tilbury's Lip and Cheek Glow to her cheekbones. "I've worked with Tyla for a year now, and we've played with a lot of different textures and products. I feel like that's what translates the best on her skin," he says.

Tyla's eye makeup typically reads what Fishman dubs "snatural" (snatched yet natural—get it?). He'll first use a neutral matte shadow to give her eyes definition before committing to Tyla's staple: a glossy lid. He dips a flat brush into a shimmery shadow (usually one from Dior's Backstage Glow Face Palette), saturates it with a setting spray, and presses it onto the lids. "Then if we really want to amp it up like we did for the BET Awards—so when the light hits her face, it reflects—we use the Fenty Diamond Bomb," Fishman adds. "It's a multipurpose product you can use on the body [and] on the face. That's where we play with the emphasis on glow."

Tyla is well-known for her head-to-toe radiance (again, that Met look!), and that Fenty product seems to be Fishman's secret weapon. After applying a body lotion and oil (he uses both to really lock in hydration), he taps the balm on the high points of her body—her décolleté, her neck, the center of her legs—so that "when she's on the carpet, she really shines." Fishman then gives her a healthy spritz of setting spray to keep everything in place. "If you're putting on a [winter] coat right over the glow, it will rub it off. Setting spray locks in that sheen," he explains.

Tyla loves a glossy, pink lip, so Fishman keeps it neutral with a combination of "not too warm, not too cool" lip liners. "One of my go-tos is Mac's Lip Liner Pencil in Chestnut," he says. "It's a perfect amount of warmth on the lips because she loves a pinkier undertone." He goes in with a mauve-pink shade from Charlotte Tilbury for the center of her lips, then tops it off with a clear gloss. "A staple in the Tyla kit is always the clear lip gloss from MAC. We can't live without that," he shares.

Your Night-Out Staples

From her angelic Met look to the many ethereal moments during her Wicked press tour, Ariana Grande's signature glam has become positively Glinda-fied—dreamy, playful, with (of course) hints of pink. "I think the holidays are always a great time to add a touch of magic, a sparkle or a snowy accent to the eyes or lashes," her makeup artist Michael Anthony tells me. In other words, there's never a better opportunity to channel your inner witch.

Grande's angelic glam always starts with a "feathery-soft sculpted complexion," Anthony says. He first applies an even layer of foundation before using cream bronzer to contour underneath the cheekbones, around the hairline, and a smidge underneath the jawline. "This will blend nicely into the foundation since it’s not set yet," he notes. A dab of concealer on the under-eyes, then he'll set the foundation and contour with a deeper shade of mineral powder (or he'll just use powder bronzer). "This gives a seamless structure to the face and stabilizes the makeup without looking too powdery," he adds.

As for blush and highlighter, Anthony keeps it minimal—just a touch of pink on the high points of the cheeks to add a natural flush. "I think less is more when it comes to blush and highlighter—unless it’s for stage or beauty editorial," he explains. "For everyday, I like a soft matte finish with highlights on the tip of the nose and lids."

Speaking of lids, he likes to prep Grande's with a custom Sweetener Concealer cocktail: Fair 1, a pure bright white, mixed with her regular shade to "brighten and lighten the lids." He'll then buff a caramel shade on the outer corner of Grande's eyes toward her temples. Next, he swipes on nude shadows from her Midnight Shadows Eyeshadow Palette in Babydoll to further define her lids. "The definition close to the lashes on the outer third of the eye aligns with the cheek contour, so there’s a nice harmony and upswept feeling to the makeup," he shares.

Next comes liner, which he likes to apply using a tight angled brush close to the lash line—unless, of course, he's crafting a graphic look. "This is something I’ve always enjoyed and get to play with a lot on Ari," he says. "I’ll craft lashes or crystal decals and have a wardrobe of choices for us to try on and experiment with." That said, a graphic cat eye is certainly one of his favorites (seen here). "We follow the open leaf–like shape using the R.E.M. white eye kohl," he explains.

For lips, he recommends using R.E.M.'s Practically Permanent Lip Stain Marker followed by the brand's plumping gloss in the shade Pink Razor for a highlighting effect. "It really is such a wonderful combo that works so well on camera and in person," he notes. "If and when the lip gloss comes off, even hours later, you’ve still got a beautiful tinted lip thanks to the stain underneath!"

The result is stunning on its own, but feel free to use this lineup as your Ari-inspired template for holiday party season. According to Anthony, it leaves tons of room for you to play, be it with a red lip, crystal liner, or flashy liquid shadow. (He suggests dabbing R.E.M.'s Fembot on the center of the lids.) "Your base makeup supports any and all of it," he adds.

Your Night-Out Staples

Finally, we have the reigning queen of girly pop. Known for bright-pink cheeks and doll eyes, Sabrina Carpenter's glam is practically made for the holidays. "You can’t go wrong with a glossy lip, a bold cheek, and gorgeous long lashes for any holiday party. "[Sabrina's] is a nostalgic look with the long lashes and bold blush, almost like a pinup girl with a modern twist," says her makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez.

Dewy skin is the name of the game here, which Gonzalez masters with a toner ("I love the Rose Water Toner by Heritage Store," she says) and 111Skin's Black Diamond Cream. She also will layer on Mario Badescu's Lip Mask to prep Carpenter's lips. "This way, by the time I get to the lip color, the lips are soft and moisturized." After priming Carpenter's skin, Gonzalez uses Armani Beauty's Luminous Silk Foundation and Concealer for a glowy base that "won't get cakey." She uses that same concealer in a shade four to five hues deeper to contour the hairline, cheekbones, and underneath the chin.

Now, for the main event—Carpenter's signature blush. "To re-create the look, opt for Luminous Silk Cheek Tint in shades 53 and 62," Gonzalez says. "Mix the shades on your hand, and then start tapping into the skin either with your finger or a brush." Don't be afraid to really load on the pigment; "blush blindness" has no place here! She then recommends setting complexion products with powder except in the areas you applied blush. Let the cheeks shine!

For the eyes, Gonzalez says you can opt for a neutral or sparkly lid situation (but it's the holidays, so we'll safely assume you'll go with the latter!). Regardless of which route you choose, she recommends giving the eyes extra definition with liquid liner. "For a more doe-eyed look like the one Sabrina is known for, use Armani Beauty's Eye Tint in shade 99M in a thin line," she instructs. Finish off the look with a few coats of inky mascara to secure those fluttery, doll-like lashes.

A swipe of brow gel ("The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel keeps brows in place and makes them look fluffy," Gonzalez says), and then it's time to dress the lips. "Glossy lips are so in right now to get that pop-star look!" she adds, which is why she piles on the shine-enhancing products. "I always recommend Armani beauty Prisma Glass Lip Gloss. Shade 1 is clear, and it’s a go-to for me since it just adds extra gloss to any lip color," she shares.

Finally, if you're craving some extra sparkle, she suggests a few taps of Armani's Luminous Silk Acqua Highlighter. "This adds a little extra glow to your look, which everyone loves during the holidays," she shares. Apply to the high points of your cheekbones, your nose, and anywhere you're craving more glow.

Bearing witness to the meteoric uprise of a trend was once a rare occurrence much like catching a solar eclipse at its highest point. Now, however, society’s youngest generations can’t seem to escape them thanks to the expansive digital landscape and its products, brands, and the heavy-hitting celeb names that back them. And here’s the kicker—even if celeb names aren’t front and center, there’s a good chance their very being (or at least what’s captured with the flash of a camera), is. For this edition of Gen Z Says, I’m taking a look at some of the most recognizable beauty brands founded by this generation’s biggest celebrities.

My earliest introduction to celebrity-owned beauty brands happened in the hallowed halls of my neighborhood drugstore while pursuing shelves peppered with fragrances in vibrant, multicolored packaging. When I learned that not only were many of them plastered with the faces of my favorite artists, models, and socialites, but that they were also heavily endorsed by other celebrities, I was hooked. The Harajuku Lovers perfumes by Gwen Stefani that I wore on rotation during my tween years were also worn on the red carpet by countless Y2K A-listers. Over the years, I’ve watched as celebrity-owned beauty brands have shifted and transformed; lending to new generations of creatives with fast-growing brands. The most noticeable change, however, happened with the industry-wide takeover by celebrity makeup and skincare brands.

Of all the celebrity brands that have risen to prominence over the past couple of years, Rhode Skin remains top of mind. The consumer response to the brand’s most recent product launches has been overwhelmingly positive, with Gen Z content creators and users praising everything from Rhode’s unique ability to lean into trends with Founder and Creative Director Hailey Rhode Bieber, at its helm. In fact, when I think about the brand’s most recognizable imagery, it’s Bieber with her plush, glossy lips and radiant complexion that I associate the most with Rhode. 

"We started Rhode to create efficacious skincare that works for everyone, and our customer base reflects that,” says Rhode’s Head of Brand Lauren Ratner. "Since we launched the brand in 2022, we have seen consistent demand for new products and to date, we have amazed over 1 million waitlist sign-ups across all products.” That’s right—Bieber’s brand has risen to unparalleled heights in the year since its inception, sparking (and ultimately keeping) the attention of Gen Z consumers worldwide. According to Ratner, the brand’s appeal to this generation can be traced back to Rhode’s goal of maintaining that accessibility and inclusion seen in all products.

Product development is led by Bieber who works closely with the brand’s skincare advisory board of chemists and dermatologists (their best-selling Peptide Glazing Milk was reformulated around 17 times before the desired result was reached). Formulated with sensitive skin in mind, its products use high-performance ingredients, "at efficacious levels,” to nourish the skin barrier while providing the radiant, glazed finish that, in two short years, has become synonymous with the brand. "At Rhode, we take a curated and edited approach to skincare, focusing on a simple yet effective routine of essential products that deliver real results,” Ratner tells us.

The It girl–centered marketing by Rhode Skin and other celebrity beauty brands has Gen Z primed for nothing short of an obsession. Many of the aesthetic trends circulated over major social media platforms have garnered trendy names like "latte makeup" or "clean girl makeup." These trends play on anything from cuisine to personality traits embodied by a nondescript individual. The idea of the It girl, however, is instantly recognizable, especially in celeb brands like Haus Labs (Lady Gaga), Rare Beauty (Selena Gomez), R.E.M. Beauty (Ariana Grande), and Fenty Beauty (Rihanna). Simply put, the names and faces of their famous founders help the brands stand out.

So, what’s in a name that can inspire so much dedication to a beauty brand? A love-lorn teenager in a 16th-century Shakespearean play once asked a similar question to convey that the naming of things, no matter how much weight one may carry, can be irrelevant. I, however, am of the belief that it’s all about the product name and its figurehead. When I hear Rare Beauty or Fenty, my mind immediately jumps to images of a wholesome "Who Says” era Selena Gomez and Rihanna’s iconic pregnancy reveal while performing the halftime show for this year’s Superbowl. Then, I think of the products.

Although Rihanna has since stepped down from her position as the CEO of Savage X Fenty, the billionaire beauty magnate is still hitting all the right notes for the rest of her business ventures. About Face and R.E.M. share a relatable approach to drumming up excitement for the launch of new products, with their prospective founders, Halsey and Ariana Grande, posting directly to their personal social media platforms about their products. I’m left with this lasting impression of the average celebrity beauty brand model: Striking a fine balance of market-driven content that inspires consumers rather than contributing to an oversaturated digital space plays a major role in their success with Gen Z consumers.

Toni Bravo, a beauty and lifestyle content creator who also happens to be a Rare Beauty team member, offered her input on the relevance of these brands to the young generation of beauty lovers. "Celebrity-owned brands, especially founded by very popular celebrities, almost always develop a cult following from the moment of [their] inception,” begins Bravo, "Whether people have gotten their hands on the product or not, some are determined to ride for their faves regardless.” Much of Bravo’s content is dedicated to reviewing and testing trending products, often raising concerns or praising a brand’s inclusion efforts for different skin types and tones.

"In order to give an honest review of a celebrity-owned product, it is important to put aside your admiration for the celebrity and focus on the product’s performance itself,” Bravo continues. "This can be difficult for some people to do, which can make it hard to understand if someone loves the product because it is good, or if they love it simply because it is coming from their ride-or-die celebrity.” She also considers the difference in resources between celeb-owned brands and small, independent ones. This alone can help determine the quality of the product as well as a marketing approach.

"You know a celebrity-owned brand is good when people are talking so much about how good a product is that folks who aren’t as familiar with the brand don’t even know it is celebrity-owned,” she explains. Taking that into consideration, it’s worth questioning the continued relevance of celeb brands in the beauty space. As consumer demands change to push for improved inclusivity and accessibility, ideally, a brand’s response should echo those efforts. If this is the case, then with increased reach comes heightened familiarity (even more so for celebrity beauty brands).

I took a look at some of the jaw-dropping numbers some of our favorite celeb-owned beauty brands have hit over the past year thanks to their massive TikTok presence. Cosmetify’s TikTok Beauty Index, by October 2023, revealed that Rare Beauty hit 3.5 million followers (with 50.3 million video likes and with 7.7 billion hashtag views), making it the second most popular TikTok beauty brand behind Huda Beauty. That being said, it holds the highest following and likes of any celeb-owned beauty brand on the platform. But as we head into 2024, I’m wondering if this generation’s most beloved beauty brands will continue to keep up with the fast-paced trend cycle of the industry.

"One of my mutuals Heather Hurst shared a great analogy about fashion trends that I believe applies to beauty as well. Basically, imagine every beauty trend is on a conveyor belt that circles round and round,” Bravo continues. "You do not have to grab everything off of the conveyor belt all at once.” In other words, if you’re not drawn to a product, its popularity alone shouldn’t be enough to inspire a purchase. In its simplest form, her biggest beauty advice when it comes to the industry’s trend cycle is as follows: enjoy what interests you and don’t feel pressure to invest in the rest because when it comes to trend cycles, everything comes back around… eventually.

Anyone who lived through the late '90s and early 2000s knows just how devoted we, as a society, were to wearing frosted eye shadow. We held onto that stuff like a vice grip, and it was pretty much fundamental to any on-trend makeup look. Celebs such as Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, and Naomi Campbell were just a few of the era's It girls who embraced it. Fast-forward to the mid-aughts, and it pretty much fell completely out of style. We've lived a fairly frost-free existence ever since—up until now, that is.

It's officially back, and celebs such as Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid, Megan Thee Stallion, and Elsa Hosk are cosigning the new-old trend. The only difference is they're wearing modern frost finishes in a fresh way. If you're wondering how "frosted eye shadow" and "modern" could ever possibly be placed in the same sentence, we get it. That's why we've rounded up the most influential frosty makeup looks as of late. We've also tapped a celebrity makeup artist to learn more about the trend and how to update it for 2023. 

"When we talk about iconic makeup looks in the late '90s and early 2000s, frosted eye shadow undeniably holds a special spot," says celebrity makeup artist J Guerra. "That's when frosted eye shadow reigned supreme. The metallic shimmer, the icy allure—it was the go-to look for A-list celebrities, pop stars, and basically every fashion-forward individual. How can anyone forget those frosty-white brow highlights?" 

While the trend had some staying power, keeping its relevancy through the late '90s and early 2000s, Guerra says it hit its peak in the year 2000. "To pin down an era, it really was the transition from the late '90s into the early 2000s (literally the year 2000) when the frosted-eye-shadow trend hit its pinnacle," he says. "Our beloved yet chaotic energy—the Y2K era. This look dominated most of the decade. From music videos to red carpets, that frosty iridescence was everywhere. And while trends come and go, the frosted look holds a nostalgic charm that every now and then makes a stunning comeback." 

Speaking of comebacks, Guerra may have had a hand in the recent resurgence of frosted eye shadow. "I worked on the movie Hustlers starring J.Lo and did dozens of early 2000s makeup on the exotic dancers featured in the film," he says. "The amount of frosty, metallic eye shadows, highlighters, body glow, and, of course, lip gloss was intensely nostalgic! I never thought I'd see that much MAC Frost Eye Shadow ($23) again." 

Now, for the ultimate question: How can we update this look for 2023? Guerra says it's possible, and he has some tips to help all of us get there. First, use a light hand. "Less is definitely more when it comes to re-creating this look. Ditch the heavy-handed application. Start with a muted base and gradually layer on the frost. Try focusing only on the center of the lid for a pop of brightness. Create subtle gradients instead of harsh lines or chunky textures," he says.

You can also use frosted eye shadow sparingly in precise locations. As Guerra puts it, "Keep frosty shadows in smaller, contained areas like the inner corners of the eyes instead, and let go of the metallic highlight under the brows." He says this is an easy trick to get a brighter, more sophisticated look.

That note on subtlety applies to eyeliner too. Guerra recommends leaving the thick kohl-rimmed liner in yesteryear. "Pair soft frosted shades with delicate, defined eyeliner," he says. "Keep the liner matte black for balance. Soft contrast is still cool."

Another easy way to modernize the frosted look is to make it monochromatic. If you try to incorporate too much color, you'll lose the effortless, modern edge. "When working with frosty finishes, try to stay in one color family for your entire look," Guerra says. "If you're using a rosy frosted eye shadow, consider a blush and lip color in the same spectrum. This gives a cohesive and monochromatic vibe that’s modern, flattering, and fresh."

Speaking of fresh, Guerra recommends focusing on the complexion too. "Any modern makeup look is still all about skin. Opt for a dewy, fresh foundation and liquid or cream highlighter, allowing your skin to shine through. It balances the texture of frosted eye shadow beautifully. It creates a more glazed, polished skin look instead of heavy, powdery metallics," he says. 

Don't be afraid to play with texture. Just because you're creating a frosty look doesn't mean you have to stick to one finish. "Mix and match matte, satin, and frosted finishes, slowly introducing the shimmer in small doses," Guerra says. "A matte crease paired with a frosted lid adds depth and keeps the look current."

Guerra's final frosted-makeup tip is to consider the undertone of the shade you use: "Frosty shadows in cool shades were most common during the Y2K era. Try warming up the look with frost finishes of bronze, warm browns, burgundy, rose, or other colors that aren't the typical pastels of the 2000s."

His favorite way to use frosted eye shadow "for a subtle look with maximum impact" is to treat it as eyeliner. First, reach for a thin, angled brush. Then mist the brush with setting spray before picking up the eye shadow. This will give you a smoother application. Finally, line your upper lash line. "After completing the top portion, sweep a shimmer eye shadow across the bottom lash line to create a glow around the eyes. Apply a delicate coat of bottom mascara to finish the look," he says. There you have it—frosted eye shadow done in a fresh and modern way.

I might be showing my quirkiness a little bit here, but believe me when I say that I'm always prepared (with notes) to argue with anyone who tells me they didn't like Ariana Grande's iconic video for her hit single "Thank U, Next." I know I'm being a tad dramatic, but when a piece of *art* captures and re-creates the iconic movies of your teen years perfectly, you tend to go a little overboard on the love and affection. 

Although it has been years since the video's release, I was delighted to learn recently that Grande and her brand R.E.M. Beauty decided to give the people what they want in the form of a gorgeous new Thank U, Next collection that pays homage to the video. In addition to receiving the news about the launch, I was also excited to learn that Grande's longtime makeup artist Daniel Chinchilla shared a few tips in a YouTube video on how to create one of Grande's iconic looks using the new collection. Don't worry, I made sure he didn't stop at just one look, either. I asked Chinchilla for a second look he would choose to re-create, along with the products he'd use to do it. From innovative eyeliner looks to the most volumised lashes, it's safe to say that I take a lot of inspiration from Ariana Grande's flawless makeup game! And it's not just her makeup that I admire but her keen nose for creating sweet and sassy fragrances. Trust me—her fragrances have a perfect scent for everyday wear, whether it's morning or night, and really last for hours. So when Grande announced that she was releasing her own makeup line, which, may I add, has been in the works for two years, it's safe to say that I was ready for her to take my money right there and then. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long, as R.E.M. Beauty is finally here!

The first part of the brand name may indeed sound familiar, as it shares the same name as her song "R.E.M." from her Sweetener album. REM also stands for rapid eye movement, which is a unique phase of sleep that really focuses on dreams and the eyes, and Grande has really managed to achieve that meaning through her beautifully curated line. The first drop from R.E.M. Beauty is titled Chapter 1: Ultraviolet, with all products being 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Grande really has created one of the dreamiest collections with high-performing and innovative products for the eyes, face and lips. And not to be biased (as I'm a complete Ari stan), but it's easy to see how much love, passion and hard work has gone into creating R.E.M. Beauty. Products range from £15 to £22, and there really is something for everyone, whether you know a thing or two about makeup or are delving in for the first time.

If you thought you were settling in for another boring winter Sunday, then think again, because Ariana Grande just gave us something to celebrate. That's right, the "Seven Rings" singer just debut her most precious bauble yet: a diamond and pearl engagement ring from boyfriend Dalton Gomez, a successful luxury real estate agent based in Los Angeles. 

Stunned? You're not alone. The couple is super low-key, and although they began dating at the beginning of the year, they only become Instagram official in May. However true Ari fans probably know that Gomez appeared in her "Stuck With U" music video which also premiered that month, which may have been a hint at things to come for the quarantining couple. 

Ariana shared a photo of her engagement ring today with the caption "forever n then some," along with several sweet photos of her and Gomez. According to Shannon Delaney-Ron, Director of Communications, ​at JamesAllen.com, the ring itself features a 5-6 carat oval diamond solitare set on a diagonal and accompanied by a perfect mid-sized lustrous pearl on a thin, platinum band. It is both unique and precious, just like the pint-sized vocal powerhouse who now wears it every day.

It feels like over the past five to ten years, everyone with celebrity status has launched a beauty line. What started as a concept everyone wanted a slice of has slowly but surely lost its allure. A recent study by market research company Ipsos found many social media users feel sceptical that celebs actually use the products they push and say the market is oversaturated. One commenter even went as far as saying, "Dear celebrities, please—and I mean this with the greatest respect—please stop forcing new skincare lines onto us. We don’t need it, we don’t want it. We know you’re not even using it. Please, just stop.” Sheesh.

For me, it was the announcement of Brad Pitt releasing his own skincare line in September last year that, quite frankly, sent me over the edge. "Where will it end?” I internally cried. However, I must give credit where credit is due, and flag there are certain celebs absolutely killing it in the beauty industry. Let’s take Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, for example, which launched in 2017 and is now worth $2.8 billion. Or newcomer Rhode by Hailey Bieber, featuring a line up of sellout skincare essentials and that viral peptide lip treatment. I’m yet to try the brand and I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival into the UK, so watch this space…

There are also a lot of skincare and makeup staples in my own beauty regime that were born from celebrity-founded brands, so it’s not all doom and gloom. If they clearly love and whole-heartedly believe in their brand, everything feels more authentic and it reflects in the product offering.

Launched in 2021 with Ariana Grande at the helm, the collection features ethereal shades and pigments housed in sci-fi inspired packaging. The brand prides itself on being fully inclusive, and just a quick scroll through the @r.e.m.beauty Instagram page, you’re served a ton of inspiring and out-of-the-box beauty looks. The matte lipsticks and lash and brow-boosting serums have become a cult favourite.

2. Rare Beauty

I really love Selena Gomez, but I don’t think that makes me bias in saying her brand hits all the right marks. Rare Beauty is all about building a safe space for everyone to experiment and enjoy beauty, plus it’s also an extremely personal project for Gomez, who donates a percentage of annual profits to a mental health charity she founded. The products are also genuinely good, and you’ll often find Gomez creating step-by-step beauty tutorial’s on Instagram or Tik Tok using a whole face of Rare Beauty.

3. Victoria Beckham Beauty

After the success of VB’s capsule collections with Estée Lauder we knew we were in for something very special when her very own beauty label launched in 2019––and boy did she deliver. Since then, we’ve been treated to a plethora of eye, lip and face treats plus a skincare collab with Augustinus Bader. All hail, Queen VB.

4. Rose Inc

Having struggled with breakouts for years, Huntington-Whiteley wanted to make sure her products work for all skin types, especially acne-prone skin. In an interview with Elle magazine she explained that authenticity and integrity are also extremely important to her, "I really wanted the brand to stand for something other than pretty products.” Clean and sustainable ingredients are at the forefront of the line up.

Noni juice, known for its healing, rejuvenating and antioxidant properties, is at the heart of all Kora Organics products and was actually introduced to the world-renowned model by her grandma when she was 13 years old. I’ve been lucky enough to interview Kerr on several occasions and it's always struck me just how passionate she is about her brand––she hasn't taken a cent from the company and instead invests it into creating powerful products.

Founded in 2012 by Jessica Alba, Honest prides itself on creating not only clean beauty but personal care, baby and household products too. Alba regularly takes to social media to demo new launches as well as tips and tricks on application.

A beauty brand that really needs no introduction (refer back to intro for its sheer success figuratively speaking). Everything from lipstick to foundation works so well for every skin type that you'd struggle to find someone who doesn't count at least one product as a ride-or-die.
