Unless you forgot and accidentally left your phone on Do Not Disturb for the last 24 hours, you probably already know that last night was *the* night—that is, the Met Gala. It's fashion's Super Bowl, and as such, important people across fashion, beauty, sports, art, and Hollywood made their way to New York's Upper East Side to walk the steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and show off their interpretation of this year's theme, Tailored for You, and exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

For the occasion, one Anne Hathaway took an opportunity to work one-on-one with Carolina Herrera's creative director, Wes Gordon, as well as her longtime jewelry partner, Bulgari, to create a stunning red carpet ensemble that the late André Leon Talley, a close friend of Herrera's, inspired. In the end, she wore an embroidered column skirt made of contrasting black-and-white hand-applied crystal embroidery that was meant to look like a pinstripe suit. On top? A crisp white cotton shirt. "The signature oversized white cotton shirt is tied at the waist, a nod to the effortless style and individual cool of Dandyism," a press release stated.

By the time Hathaway made it to Zero Bond, most of those precious jewels had been removed, likely returned to a vault somewhere by a security guard. There's been a lot of talk about full, flared skirts this season, but let's not forget the summer staple skirt we all own and have been wearing for years: slip skirts. Hathaway was photographed walking in NYC recently wearing a black slip skirt as part of an entirely trendy outfit—head to toe.

With her midi skirt, Hathaway wore an all-black outfit consisting of a vest (worn as a top, of course), fishnet flats, and a raffia hat. Anne Hathaway continues to cater to those of us who have been fans of her since The Devil Wears Prada, whether she means to or not. I think that she just loves fashion and has good taste, so she dresses accordingly. The latest example of this was her outfit for a night out late last week in NYC. For the occasion, Hathaway wore an oversize button-down shirt with matching baggy trousers. She looked effortlessly cool, per usual, and her shoes were the cherry on top.

I love an evening flat-shoe outfit, and Hathaway nailed it by opting for a pair of Alaïa's now-iconic fishnet ballerinas in black. The wild popularity of the ingenious shoes prompted seemingly every brand on the planet to design its own version of fishnet shoes, but it's hard to top Alaïa's pair. Despite their popularity, they've retained their cool, IYKYK allure. I also should mention that they're the most comfortable flats I've ever put on my feet. If I had to guess, I'd say that Hathaway agrees with me on all of this.

Given how wildly popular red tights became, combined with the fact that they're undeniably a bit tricky to wear, it's not surprising that they've peaked. But not to worry—their replacement is waiting in the wings, and it's similar but different. That replacement is white tights, which are no longer reserved for Halloween. And Anne Hathaway just solidified this.

While out in New York City this morning doing press for her new film, The Idea of You, Anne Hathaway wore a head-to-toe white outfit. And yes, it included white tights. White tights are slightly easier to style than their red counterparts, but if you're unsure where to start, you can't go wrong with a monochromatic look like hers. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone more excited about Anne Hathaway's new movie The Idea of You than me. The second I finished the book it was adapted from, I went back to page one and read it again. And if you have to watch one of your favorite books turn into a movie—something that far too often leads to disappointment—finding out that Hathaway's going to be the one leading the charge is a dream come true. She never misses—on or off the screen.

Proof of that arrived on Sunday when she showed up to a screening of the movie at the 92nd Street Y on the Upper East Side of Manhattan wearing a daring black leather three-piece suit from Ralph Lauren that featured controversial skinny-leg pants, a matching black tie, and a fitted waistcoat. As for shoes, she wore the most elegant, flower-embellished Jimmy Choo pumps that added just the right amount of elegance to her otherwise edgy ensemble. Thus far on this press tour, Hathaway and her stylist Erin Walsh have erred more on the feminine side with her outfits, opting for a mix of minidresses, feathers, and sequins, making this look's darker color palette, tailored fit, and bold fabrication stand out. As always, though, Walsh and Hathaway maintained a sense of balance in the look, mixing in a glamorous shoe that just so happens to fit perfectly with today's footwear trend of lavish floral touches (think Prada, Magda Butrym, and Loewe).

If you, like me, have read the book that inspired Anne Hathaway's new film The Idea of You, then you're probably freaking out about the fact that it just premiered at South by Southwest, Austin's annual TV and film festival. To my delight, the world premiere resulted in a slew of adorable photos of the actress alongside her co-star, Red, White & Royal Blue actor Nicholas Galitzine, with Hathaway ignoring the festival's somewhat casual dress code and wearing a showstopping micro minidress and platform heels. But are we really surprised? After all, The Devil Wears Prada star has been known to dabble with the combo—and yes, I am thinking of the hot-pink Valentino mini-and-platforms ensemble she wore during Paris Fashion Week back in July 2022.

This time around, the dress that Hathaway and her stylist Erin Walsh chose was a tad less bright in color but equally eye-catching and brilliant. Courtesy of the French fashion house Patou's S/S 24 collection, it was white, with two chevron-shaped strips of baguette embellishments and tiny rhinestones all over. With it, she wore ankle-strap metallic platforms by Aquazzura and loads of Bulgari jewelry, including two tennis bracelets.

Tessa Thompson made everyone's best dressed list at the 2026 Golden Globes thanks to Welch's genius acquisition of this Balenciaga Haute Couture dress.

Law Roach

Law Roach first became famous for his work with Zendaya, but he's further cemented his icon status during Ariana Grande's Wicked: For Good press tour. He's also helped elevate the wardrobes of Jodie Turner-Smith, Ryan Destiny, and others.

Roach worked with designer Rahul Mishra on this intricately hand-beaded dress inspired by Emerald City.

This will go down as one of the best Golden Globes red carpet looks of all time.

Danielle Goldberg

Danielle Goldberg's current roster includes quickly rising stars Ayo Edebiri, Jessie Buckley, and Eva Victor. She's one of the busiest stylists in the business right now, with a client list that also includes Kendall Jenner, Zoë Kravitz, Emily Ratajkowski, and others.

Andrew Mukamal

Styling Margot Robbie for the Barbie film press tour was a make-or-break gig for Andrew Mukamal's career. In my opinion, he passed the test with flying colors, coming up with fresh, inspiring, and chic looks time and again. To commemorate the whirlwind tour, he teamed up with Rizzoli on an exceptionally chic coffee table book every fashion lover should own. He's also currently working with Hailey Bieber, Lily Collins, Mikey Madison, and Lindsay Lohan.

Mukamal and Hailey Bieber are quite the dynamic duo. He allows Bieber's personal style to shine through while also adding his own signature touches.

Because the Barbie movie press tour gave us so many good looks, it was hard to pick my favorite, but I eventually landed on this Vivienne Westwood number worn in London. An Assael pearl necklace and Christian Louboutin shoes completed the already-iconic look styled by Mukamal.

Erin Walsh

Have you noticed Selena Gomez has received extra praise for her style in recent months? You have Erin Walsh to thank for that. She's dreamed up all of Gomez's best red carpet moments around the globe. Her client roster is seriously impressive and also includes Mindy Kaling, Thandie Newton, Ariana DeBose, Alison Brie, and more.

Walsh put together this excellent Chanel ensemble for Selena Gomez's Golden Globes appearance in 2026.

Walsh memorably styled Anne Hathaway in an ethereal Armani Privé dress and statement-making Bulgari jewelry for the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

Rebecca Corbin-Murray

We've long admired Rebecca Corbin-Murray's work here at Who What Wear because she's worked with some of our favorite red carpet stars such as Simone Ashley, Lily James, Florence Pugh, and Gemma Chan.

Corbin-Murray works with Louis Vuitton for most of Gemma Chan's beautiful red carpet looks, which have never missed the mark.

In my opinion, Ilaria Urbinati is the preeminent menswear stylist in Hollywood right now. She's responsible for Barry Keoghan's entrance to the fashion scene and has also styled Donald Glover, John Krasinski, James Marsden, Chris Evans, Aaron Paul, The Rock, Zac Efron, Rami Malek, and Ryan Reynolds.

Barry Keoghan, Ilaria Urbinati, and Louis Vuitton are a terrific trio, as exemplified by this Golden Globes look.

Donald Glover made waves with his style during the Mr. and Mrs. Smith press tour, which was expertly spearheaded by Urbinati.

Petra Flannery

Over the years, Petra Flannery has worked with tons of Hollywood's best dressed celebrities, including Emma Stone, Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Clarke, Reese Witherspoon, Ellen Pompeo, and Claire Danes. I can't wait to see what she comes up with for the rest of award season, including the upcoming Academy Awards.

I adored this ice-blue Louis Vuitton look that Flannery dressed Emma Stone in for the London premiere of Poor Things.

Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn

Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn are perhaps best known for their work with Jennifer Lopez, but they also serve up fashion-with-a-capital-F looks for Suki Waterhouse, Heidi Klum, Kelsea Ballerini, Lindsay Lohan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Biel, Gwen Stefani, Cara Delevingne, Kerry Washington, and Camila Cabello.

In all honesty, I've been anticipating a shift of the pendulum away from baggy pants and jeans lately. It's been the reigning pant trend for quite some time now, and a shift seems inevitable, but Anne Hathaway and Sydney Sweeney just pretty much solidified that the time has not come for baggy pants to fall from favor. In fact, their chosen pants proved quite the opposite.

Both actresses have been in NYC promoting their latest projects this week and both were photographed wearing very wide-leg pants. The word "baggy" doesn't even do these pants justice. Hathaway wore a pair of white wide-leg pants with a purple cardigan while Sweeney wore ultra-wide-leg jeans with a black vest and floor-length coat. The shoes they wore hardly matter because you can barely see them.

As we near the end of the year, celebrity outings are becoming more and more frequent. With awards ceremonies, press events and annual engagements cropping up throughout the weeks, we've had the exciting opportunity to catch an extra glimpse of some of our favourite style icons over the past month. As someone who spots trends for a living, I will admit that I was surprised to see this particular trend worn by three of my favourite famous women over the past few days. All known for their elegant, refined and manicured taste (amongst many other things), I was shocked to spot Victoria Beckham, Catherine, Princess of Wales and Anne Hathaway opt for white wide-leg trousers on drizzly December days.

Known to favour a white suit for event-wear, Victoria Beckham was spotted styling the fresh shade from head-to-toe late last week. Opting for mid-rise white wide leg trousers, Beckham style her look with a long-line white blazer, a white blouse and a slim gold belt. 

Attending a carol service at Westminster Abbey, Kate Middleton ignored the wet weather forecast and styled white, floor-skimming wide-leg trousers with a white blouse and longline white coat. Protecting the bottom of her trousers from sneaky puddles and muddy grass, The Princess opted for tall stiletto heels, adding extra height whilst keeping her ankles dry.

Simultaneously, in New York City, Anne Hathaway was spotted mirroring The Princess's outfit, styling a white base layer with matching wide-leg trousers and a lavender cardigan as she left a recording of The Tonight Show. Making her way through the city's streets, Hathaway kept her white trousers looking fresh with chunky beige boots.

Whilst winter whites are a cold-weather no-brainer, when we're met with frequent showers that lead to slippery, muddy pathways, white wide-leg trousers aren't for the faint-hearted, nor can they be described as practical. For this year's Fashion Awards, the industry's darlings flocked to the Royal Albert Hall in an array of awe-inspiring eventwear. Whilst we saw layers of tulle, a meadow's-worth of rosettes and sparkles bright enough to light up the city, I was struck by the sheer number of bright white looks instead of traditional black-tie dresses. Tapping into bridal vibes, celebrities including Pamela Anderson, Anne Hathaway and Maya Jama experimented with tones of white, cream and beige for the occasion, instead of traditional winter colours such as black, white and brown.

Style Notes: Anne Hathaway leant into the new-season bridal trend in a floor-length archive Valentino dress with a deep scoop neck and body-skimming cut. At first glance, the floor-sweeping dress appeared minimal and relaxed, but on closer inspection, its clever embroidery, intricate cut and elegant drapes elevated the vintage dress, truly embodying a less-is-more approach to event styling.

Style Notes: Channelling the same quietly confident energy, former actress and author Pamela Anderson rejected a traditional dress for the occasion, instead opting for a relaxed, tonal look that featured well-tailored white trousers, a knitted top and a boxy ivory blazer. Keeping her look bright and fresh, Anderson sported a bare face to the event, allowing her natural glow to shine through. 

Style Notes: For a grungier take on party styling, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams tapped into several major trends at once for the event. Choosing a white tulle Simone Rocha dress, she adorned her look in flowing ribbons and injected a festive edge into her look with the addition of a crystal-embellished headpiece. Black, chunky platform heels grounded Williams' sheer, voluminous dress, giving less traditional 2024 brides a fresh dose of styling inspiration in the process.

Style Notes: Singer Olivia Dean opted for the draped dress trend, choosing a simple yet elegant white dress with cutout detailing to the evening event, which she styled with a bright gold handbag and white, pointed-toe T-bar heels.

Style Notes: Going for a distinctly bridal take, presenter Maya Jama, who hosted the event, styled sheer, white, thigh-high stockings with a bold diamond ring and lashings of frothy frills. Cinched with a corset and completing her look with white pointed-toe heels, she balanced a bridal influence with red carpet glamour, opting for a deep burgundy lip and sleek low bun.

Though we've seen brown, red and grey emerge as major colour trends this season, I'm excited to see stylish celebs opt for fresh white right on cue for winter. If there's one thing Anne Hathaway has down, it's being able to look effortlessly glamorous. No matter the occasion, we can always count on Hathaway to show up looking polished but not overly done up. Last week, Hathaway channeled this uncomplicated aesthetic at a special screening for her new movie, Eileen, at the Whitby in New York City.

To celebrate the release of the highly anticipated psychological thriller, Hathaway wore a '70s-inspired brown sleeveless sweaterdress with fringe. I don't know about you, but I find figuring out what jacket to wear with a fancy dress in fall to be surprisingly challenging. In the winter, you can just put on a long wool coat and look instantly chic, but in the fall, when you don't need something quite as warm, what's a person to do? Anne Hathaway has an idea. 

While attending a screening in New York last week of her new film She Came to Me, Hathaway wore a pink sequin bustier dress from The Attico with sheer sparkly pumps. It was a decidedly "fancy" look with no obvious type of light fall jacket style to pair with it. But Hathaway knew exactly what to do. Post–red carpet, she topped it off with a cropped denim jacket, and it looked cool and perfect. Denim jackets are as versatile as it gets, and I like how nicely they contrast with a dressed-up outfit.
