I have a problem. 

Somehow, despite owning drawers and drawers of sweatshirts, I cannot stop buying more. Here’s what happens: I go to boutiques or department stores with the intention of buying new jeans, maybe finding appropriate shoes to wear to work, or sometimes I literally just go to Soho to walk my dog and browse. And yet in all of these scenarios, I have somehow left with a new sweatshirt. This happens so much that my closet is approximately 80% sweatshirts, 15% other clothing, and 5% dog hair.

For a large portion of the year, I cannot defend my actions. "Gaby, why in the world do you need a lavender, sherpa-lined hoodie in August?” my mom might ask, as we FaceTime so I can show her my latest treasure and then quickly hang up when I realize I have no justifiable answer. This goes on for a few months every year, and as my drawer of sweatshirts increases, the temperature starts to decrease. Finally, it’s sweater weather.

In the ultimate toast to 2019, Zoë Kravitz finally shared photos from her June 29th wedding to actor Karl Glusman. She kicked off the photo montage with a candid shot of designer Alexander Wang, which features her drop-waist, tea-length, scoop-neck wedding dress designed by him in the background.

Kravitz shared roughly 15 more black-and-white photos from the big day, showcasing her bow-accented headband and subtle white flats. I’ve never been the type to have just one favorite brand or stick to a single designer head to toe. Rather, with each new season, I tend to notice that there’s a group of labels that are very clearly getting it right and designing all the things I want to wear at that moment. For fall, there are a whopping eight of them, and they range from fast fashion to ultra luxe—just like my taste itself.

As you may have guessed already, this list is highly biased. Unlike a recent data-driven shopping guide I put together, it is purely and solely based on my opinions. But, if you like my self-described simple-but-cool style, then I’m confident you’ll also like what you’re about to see! Have I said enough? Are you still with me? Just keep scrolling to see, read about, and shop all eight brands that, according to me, are straight up killing it for fall.

1. Alexander Wang

From Kat’s tweed jacket (seen above) to the below cardigan that I couldn’t help but order for myself, there are so many Alexander Wang pieces that I have my eyes on this season; it was actually the brand that inspired this story.

2. Stand Studio

Every time I come across Scandi brand Stand online, I ask myself How soon is too soon to buy my winter coat? The good news, however, is that this season its offerings have expanded to also include equally amazing separates and bags, so I’ll probably end up snagging something well before the temperatures drop.

3. Paris Texas

Looking to invest in a cool pair of boots for fall and winter? Whether you’re searching for something subtle or statement-making, knee-high or ankle length, Paris Texas is the brand for you thanks to its unparalleled fall offerings.

4. Mango

It feels like every time I go on Instagram, I find myself saving at least one post to my "buy” collection that features one or more Mango items in it. At the top of my list is the above miniskirt suit, but its boots and sweaters are pretty high up there, too.

5. Khaite

Given that Khaite’s first-ever runway show was one of my favorites back in February, it’s no surprise that those items, which have now become available to shop, are among my most-hearted and bookmarked of the season. The brand's boots, bags, and RTW are all perfect updates on basics I thought I had covered.

6. Nanushka

Another brand I’ve been wearing quite a bit myself this season is Nanushka. From its ultra-luxe looking faux leather to the cozy but polished knits, there’s something for every day of the week and any type of outfit.

7. Totême

Totême has been steadily gaining steam for many seasons now, but thanks to recent hits such as its smocked dress and heeled thong sandals, the brand has gained more exposure than ever before. The latest fall collection is definitely worthy of the fandom.

8. GRLFRND

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Revolve’s many in-house brands and, while choosing a favorite is typically hard, right now I am so into GRLFRND’s denim and recent RTW launch I can’t help but put them on the list.

In general, we’re all about scoring the best fashion finds on a budget, but sometimes we (and our readers) want to splurge on something ultra luxe. Of course, when we do, our hope is that our purchase turns out to be less of a temporary fling and more of an investment—something that is trending but still on the rise, better than options we could have bought for under $100, and from a brand that has some staying power for future seasons. Loewe, a personal longtime favorite of mine, can also claim a top spot this season thanks to its rising search presence relative to other established luxury brands and high quantity of product clicks.

This should come as no surprise, as Gucci's re-rise to stardom since Alessandro Michele's 2015 appointment as creative director was one of the most noteworthy fashion comebacks of the decade. However, here's a fun fact for you: @whowhatwear's top-engaged post of the entire year was thanks to the brand's dressing of Harry Styles for the Met Gala back in May.

Since the reintroduction of Fendi's iconic Baguette bag earlier this year, we've not only seen the brand's street style and Instagram presence skyrocket, but its search volume and product clicks relative to other luxury brands on-site have followed suit and increased accordingly as well.

I probably don't need to tell you about "new Bottegas" literal explosion over the last six months, but to put the brand's rapid rise in popularity since Daniel Lee's appointment as creative director in to perspective, it ranked second in year-to-date luxury product clicks on our entire site (topped only by Chanel), and its on-site search also experienced the second-highest increase of a top-tier brand since the start of 2019.

Following Chanel and Bottega Veneta, the third highest-clicked luxury brand on our site was none other than Prada, and it's clear why. The reissuing of its iconic nylon accessories and RTW along with consistently trend-forward runways and collections makes the brand among our readers' (and editors') top choices.

On the Rise

While her eponymous label was only launched in 2014, London-based Rejina Pyo has already become a favorite with luxury buyers and shoppers. Thanks in part to the brand's presence on all our favorite e-tailers including Shopbop and Net-a-Porter, it's among the top-clicked on our site and ranks third in search increase since the beginning of the year.

Much like my own interest in the brand, Nanushka's stature continues to rise steadily. Quantifiably, the label ranks high in luxury product clicks and search volume increase, but all it really takes to know that its pieces are a hit is to simply scroll through your Instagram feed (or Who What Wear) and see what influencers, editors, and celebrities are wearing.

Since launching in 2006, The Row has quietly gone from insider secret to celebrity favorite in recent years thanks to its elevated (and high-quality) essentials and wildly successful accessories including its Coco mules, Bare leather sandals, Ascot bag, and Double-Circle bag. In terms of our audience, the numbers show that The Row is also among the top clicked and most increased in search.

It's easy to instantly spot Jacquemus's many mini bags all over Instagram and street style, but a trained eye can tell you that even the brand's less-identifiable ready-to-wear items have also taken over the fashion scene. In line with that observation, we've seen its products garner massive engagement on our Instagram, and its on-site search has continued to increase period over period. While Jacquemus didn't rank for product clicks, my guess is that it's because its biggest hits sell out before anyone can even promote them.

Alexander Wang loves a theme. In past seasons, I have enjoyed epic #WangFest after-parties with 7-Eleven, strip club, and inflatables themes. For his very last NYFW show, he gave the runway show itself a theme, and a very New York fashion industry theme at that. The invitation directed me to report to the Wang Inc. office, cubicle F. Just where was this office? None other than the old Condé Nast building. In fact, Wang was once an intern for Teen Vogue and Vogue in that building.

After settling into my “cubicle,” the harsh lighting started to flicker on and off, and a soundtrack of increasingly frantic heels clicking came on. I immediately thought of the scene in The Devil Wears Prada where Andi Dorman describes the “clackers.” The lights flash on, and models stomp down the runway dressed as futuristic fashion bosses—in an alternate world where a bodycon mini dress is HR-approved, that is. If it wasn’t already obvious, New York Fashion Week has confirmed that Kaia Gerber has style. While it’s no surprise, considering the fact she’s clearly inherited her mum Cindy Crawford’s genes, Gerber has been showing up fabulously this fashion week—both on and off the runway.

Stepping out in New York City, Gerber showed us that sporty style can still be very chic. Pairing a cropped hoodie with a vinyl skirt, Gerber’s look was unexpectedly cool. While keeping the rest of the outfit all black, the young model showed off her retro Nike Air Jordan’s in a statement-making way. To top it off, she wore an oversize men’s bomber jacket and statement-making tights.

Reading “No After Party”, Gerber’s tights give off a distinct off-duty, blasé vibe. Considering how much we’ve seen of her this fashion week, we wouldn’t be surprised if the young model isn’t exhausted. Regardless, we can only hope to see even more great style moments from Gerber—and there’s no doubt that she will deliver.

Flight attendants arguably log the most miles crisscrossing the world, which means the rest of us can learn a thing or two from these experts about making travel as painless as possible. At the top of our list is comfortable travel shoes. Since we've lived through the hassles of TSA and the misery of swollen, cramped feet mid-flight, we're all ears when it comes to anything that might take the discomfort out of travel.

To fill us in on what we need to know, we tapped flight attendant Danny Lam to share the tips he's picked up along the way. So what does a flight attendant wear to travel off-duty? "When I'm off-duty and traveling for leisure, comfort is key. For shorter, domestic flights, I'll usually wear my Nike trainers. The Roshe Two, in particular, are super comfortable," he notes. "For longer, international flights, I'll also pack a pair of slides to change into because it's nice for some wiggle room for your toes."

For Lam, fit is a crucial part of picking the right footwear. "Anything that is constricting is a no-go for me. Because of the altitude change, lots of swelling can occur in your ankles and feet, so you want to have something on the looser side," he says. "I would avoid anything with lots of laces or [that] takes a small army to put on/off." So whether you'll soon find yourself on a long-haul flight or a short-and-sweet trip home, make sure you're armed with the right footwear.

We all know the feeling: You walk out the door for a day on the go, only to find 20 minutes later that your choice of footwear just isn't going to cut it in the comfort department. Unfortunately, the pain and blisters aren't the only downsides to wearing uncomfortable shoes—there's the chance they could cause more long-lasting damage to your feet. To help you prevent this, we reached out to an expert to find out which shoes are the worst for foot health.

Frankly, we expected high heels to top the list, but podiatrist Robert Khorramian, MD provided a surprising response to our question. The worst offender? Ballet flats. Dr. Khorramian pointed out that with women's busy schedules, unstructured flats don't offer enough support. He noted that walking for long periods of time in ballet flats "causes metatarsalgia neuroma and plantar fasciitis," and also "destroys the fatty tissue underneath the feet," resulting in the ever so dreaded corns and calluses.

While Dr. Khorramian named ballet flats as the most common shoes to cause foot-related issues, he explained that other unsupportive or painful styles are also worth avoiding. "Flip-flops can cause a lot of injuries," he stated. "Pointy shoes can also cause corns and blisters because of the lack of circulation to the toes."

Some of the most unsupportive shoes for your feet include classic ballet flats, flip-flops, pointed shoes, and precarious heels. So what are the best ways to protect your feet? "Always buy shoes that are cushiony underneath the soles of the feet and have enough toe room," said Khorramian. And if you are planning to wear shoes with little support or high heels, he recommends carrying a larger bag where you can easily swap to comfortable shoes. "If you must wear heels, avoid wearing them while you’re driving, for long periods of time, and while walking."

Beauty-wise, a good SPF, an after-sun cream, my lipstick, and my perfume are my only must-haves. I never wear any makeup during the holidays. And, of course, a good book like Chanson Douce by Leila Slimani.”

Don't: Wear Anything That's Not Versatile Enough to Survive the Whole Day

If there's one word that describes Walker's morning outfit decisions, it's comfort. "I never feel uncomfortable. On a normal day, I may attend shows, but I also have buying meetings and I need to feel comfy." For Walker, this means she never starts the day in heels, "I can't work in high heels because my feet always hurt. I tend to wear platforms, and I love that sneakers are so on trend."

When it comes to getting dressed, Mejia has one important rule, "no visible panty lines!" And while picking the right underwear for the day ahead is crucial, she also notes she has one other big no-go when getting dressed. "Being too matchy-matchy (except for denim on denim)." 

For the stylist, dressing is all about dressing in pieces that make her comfortable. "I try not to dress too young," she says. "A good friend once said to me 'if you wore it the first time around, you shouldn't the second time around.' This doesn't apply to clothing that has a nod to a trend but it can't be too literal in design… it won't work." She also notes that when it comes to dressing for work, she avoids pieces that are restrictive or uncomfortable, "it will just irritate me within an hour."

When she's getting ready in the morning, Sabharwal says there's one thing she'll never do, "put my makeup on before I'm fully dressed." And when it comes to picking out what to wear, she says unless she's off to the gym, shiny leggings are to be avoided. "Keep a little to the imagination," she notes. "And if you are going to do it, make sure to avoid underwear lines."

Since her busy schedule leaves her constantly on the go, Lee knows that it's all about clothing that can get you through anything. "Entrepreneurship has left a lot less time for everything else in my life, so versatility and comfort became increasingly important filters for my personal style," she says. "I avoid anything that distracts me from focusing on what's important; so I gravitate toward beautiful clothes that I can live and work in."

When it comes to morning rituals, the designer has one that's pretty darn important, "I never get dressed without checking the weather forecast." Nonoo notes that walking to work every day means that being prepared is key to making through the day unscathed. "Every good New Yorker lives by the weather forecast or faces the consequences at their own peril," she says.

From Thakoon to Tom Ford, more and more designers are experimenting with the see-now-buy-now model, disrupting the established fashion cycle in favor of a more consumer-friendly approach. For his S/S 17 show at New York Fashion Week, Alexander Wang announced his collaboration with Adidas Originals during the finale and smartly did a test-run of the see-now-buy-now strategy at the show's after-party, where pieces from the collaboration were available for purchase. Shortly after, the brand announced a pop-up truck selling the merch would be making stops in New York, London, and Tokyo.

It looks like the experiment's results were to his liking, because now Wang is back at it again with a capsule collection of his S/S 17 collection. Vogue.com announced the exciting news this morning, and while you can already browse the sure-to-sell-out items on the brand's site, you won't be able to make any purchases until tomorrow.

Then, at the end of his S/S 17 runway show, a surprise video revealed some amazing news: The designer is collaborating with Adidas Originals.

The finale featured models wearing looks from the collab, which boasted upside-down Adidas logos. We already have a sneak peek at the collaboration's campaign, and from the looks of it, it will be one of the most highly coveted collections yet. A limited selection of the collab is available beginning today—but here's the catch: It's available IRL only at Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang pop-up truck locations in New York City. The full collaboration will then be available in spring 2017. Can't wait!

New in: Just in time for New York Fashion Week, Dior has launched a new black version of the Small Lady Dior Bag at the brand's NY boutique on 57th Street. The best part? The crossbody strap can be customized with three Lucky Pins, which can be mixed and matched.
