For fall, Anderson leaned into shape and structure, with peplum jackets and cardigans as the focal point of multiple looks, paired with everything from equally voluminous ruffled skirts to sleek denim. I could go on and on about the outerwear—the cinch-waist feather-trimmed coat, checked robe coats, sherpa-lined snakeskin jacket, brocade coats, cascading leather jacket—the list goes on. Thanks to this collection, I’m ready to skip summer and go straight to fall."

"Minimalism has become the most common theme among runway shows these past few years, but lately, that aesthetic has started to feel performative and lost my attention. That's exactly why Matthieu Blazy's F/W 26 collection at Chanel felt like a breath of fresh air. Rather that stripping things back, he leaned all the way in to what makes Chanel fun. Building a maximalist, bold, cinematic fantasy world that was the polar opposite of quiet luxury. What struck me most was his reimagining of Chanel's iconic tweed. Trend cycles aside, a great tweed jacket is a permanent fixture in my wardrobe, and Blazy's interpretation reminded me why. Layered with eclectic accessories and an unexpected color palette, each look felt like a scene from a Great Gatsby– or Alice in Wonderland–themed film. After seeing the buzz around this debut collection with the brand, I'm sure the line will be once again wrapped around the building when this one hits stores."

"Pieter Mulier's final collection for Alaïa was both emotional and beautiful. For the last time, Mulier removed accessories such as bags and jewelry from the looks, allowing the focus to be on the elegant garments designed to honor the female form. This deliberate, pared-down approach, used to highlight Mulier's signature craftsmanship, made the collection memorable. While outerwear and dresses were the main focus, each piece made a bold statement. For example, the simple, formfitting sleeveless dresses with contour seaming offered understated beauty and countless styling options. The jersey dresses, detailed with crocodile print down the front, directly paid tribute to Mulier's favorite Azzedine pieces and were impactful enough to stand alone. It's just hot and easy, which is the vibe I'm definitely trying to give throughout the rest of this year, and the whole collection kind of gave that too. I also loved just how creepy the show was since it was inspired by American Psycho—such a classic, freaky film."

"Across all the different cities, it's really hard to pick just one, especially with all the emerging designers. That said, I keep thinking about the Caro Editions show in particular. With your calendar filling up with parties aplenty, it can be tempting to use the open bars and cocktail events as an excuse to dip into your arsenal of towering heels and wear all the stilettos, kitten-heels, Mary Janes and mock crock pumps that have been desperately waiting for an outing. But in my opinion, the sleet, snow and heavy rainfall that plagues December is not worth risking these decorative styles and, frankly, there are far more superlative options that look just as ornamental and are far more comfortable. I won't make you wait, prolonging your ability to find out what mysterious pants trend made you click on this story. It's "genie pants." Well, that or harem pants, or peplum pants, or bubble pants. Fashion and the internet haven't quite decided what they want to call this sartorial phenomenon, but even if it's technically nameless, that doesn't change the fact that it's here.

Over the last two weeks, I've been busy saving Instagram photos of the platform's best dressers debuting their best billowy bottoms, skipping capris, cigarette pants, barrel trousers, linen pants, Bermuda shorts, and, yes, skinny jeans, in the process. People clearly want comfortable bottoms that also make a statement, and genie pants check off both boxes, making them primed for a comeback this summer.

On the runway:

Though social media is where the genie pants trend took off, it got its start on the runways back in September of last year, when Pieter Mulier sent models (including Kendall Jenner) down the runway (the spiral pathway inside of the Upper East Side's Guggenheim Museum) at Alaïa's S/S 25 show wearing the formerly outdated bottoms in a mix of pastel shades and neutrals made of jersey, taffeta, and more with bandeau tops and thong sandals. Later that season, in Paris, Loewe and Chloé too displayed genie pants in their runway shows, Loewe in leather and floral silk, and Chloé in see-through lace.

Now, months later, those pieces we saw on the catwalk are arriving in stores, and elite dressers and stylists like Hanna MW and Oumayma Elboumeshouli are wearing them.

But designer pairs aren't the only bubble-shaped bottoms going viral right now on fashion's internet. Naturally, the more affordable copies followed, but none have been able to capture the level of luxury, refinement and understated appeal that comes so naturally to the Alaïa label. The Le Teckel feels incredibly true to the identity of Alaïa. Sculptural forms have always been a noticeable feature of the brand, with designs that play with bold proportion or texture. Just as the leopard-print trend is reaching a fever pitch, another animal is already hot on its heels. Don't get me wrong—I don't see the trend going anywhere anytime soon and to be fair, I've personally invested in it myself, but this season, designers, retail brands, and celebrities alike are posing a united front on a new It print that feels like a fresh evolution of the animal-printed theme that we're seeing play out across fashion right now. With that, we're officially introducing zebra print as the "It" print to know for 2025.

With its graphic black-and-white stripes that go with all manner of neutrals and both gold and silver jewelry accents, I'd even argue that zebra is much easier to incorporate into your wardrobe and style than leopard print. The fashion world seems to agree here, as the print is suddenly popping up all over the market at retail favorites like J.Crew, Mango, and Zara. To be fair, Alaïa was one of the first to put zebra on the runway in a major way with a printed maxi coat in its fall 2022 collection, followed by Jacquemus, who dressed celebrities like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the print for its "La Casa" collection staged in Capri last summer.

The Zebra-Print Trend in Action

Alaïa, which is always one to set the trends rather than follow them, showed zebra print in its fall 2022 collection via a sweeping maxi coat finished with a fluted mermaid tail. The rest of the look was minimal—just a few silver cuff bracelets—proving just how little styling the print needs.

To celebrate its "La Casa" collection, Jacquemus staged another one of its destination runway shows in Capri last summer and zebra print featured heavily through accessories like belts, bucket bags, and mules.

The number one way the style set is embracing zebra right now? Through an animal-print skirt, like the pencil skirt style Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore to attend the above Jacquemus show.

Although zebra print can seem intimidating to wear, it's actually a minimalist's dream print since it couldn't be any easier to wear with black-and-white staples.

While Alaïa and Rotate's outerwear made a case for a winter wardrobe with zebra print, there's something inherently vacation-esque about it, and I love the idea of mixing it with other colorful prints where zebra takes on the role of a neutral.

If you're going to test the waters, my suggestion is to opt for a pair of zebra-print shoes to accent just about any look.

For fall 2025, Alaïa showcased its designs in the building of its Paris atelier, transforming the runway into a living gallery. Each piece was a work of art and told a story of empowerment, refinement, and artistry.

The collection, which Creative Director Pieter Mulier noted on Instagram was titled Modern Venus, profoundly inspired by the goddess Venus, a symbol of harmony, femininity, beauty, love, and the essence of the female form. In this captivating collection, Mulier beautifully captured these ideals, weaving them into designs that celebrate each woman's strength, grace, and individuality.

As for what that actually looked like, there were body-hugging tops with sculptural hoods that "concealed and revealed, framing faces like a portrait of a woman, a portrait of beauty," as noted in the brand's press release. There were also voluminous, rolled-waist skirts, metal-sculpted dresses, pleated, fringe-like designs, and many more intriguing looks. At the Paris Atelier 

Following a captivating showcase in New York last season, Alaïa made a heartfelt return to Paris, reconnecting with the brand's rich heritage and creative essence. For the very first time, the brand's atelier served as the backdrop for the collection's unveiling. The decision to present it in the building where Alaïa's legendary designs are meticulously crafted infused the event with an intimate and personal atmosphere. What truly elevated the experience was the stunning set, adorned with bronze sculptures by the talented Dutch artist Mark Manders, whose artistry has long enchanted designer Mulier. Manders’s evocative statues beautifully reflected Azzedine Alaïa’s Tunisian roots while embodying the spirit of the Alaïa woman, creating a harmonious blend of culture and design that resonated deeply throughout the show.

Sculptural Forms

Mulier thoughtfully builds on Alaïa's legacy by deepening the brand's connection to fashion, geography, and sculpture—particularly emphasizing the sculptural aspect. This focus was evident in the face-framing hoods, which Alaïa described on Instagram as "a round boudine around the head worn with a pleated skirt." Voluminous skirts with rolled waists and padding further highlighted the brand's commitment to creating pieces that naturally conform to the body's shape. To echo the topography of the female form, dresses were designed with curved edges made of metal tube structures that were molded onto the body. These innovations, as Alaïa also explained on Instagram, "allowed the jersey to drape around those unique body jewels, creating movement as if the gown was floating."

Padded Shoulders

The collection featured an impressive variety of tops and dresses, each with eye-catching padded shoulder designs. According to the brand, these bold shoulders were intended to "act like armor to shield" and protect a woman's strength and beauty, highlighting her resilience. This aspect also enhanced the shoulders and framed the women's upper bodies in a way that exuded confidence.

Reinterpreted Fringe

Fringe has taken center stage this fashion month. However, instead of the typical strands of fringe hanging from the hems of garments, Alaïa skillfully transformed the concept. In stunning matching skirt sets, fabric was artfully cut to reveal unique pleated fringes that danced gracefully with every step. Standalone maxi skirts also stood out with their multitiered pleats, featuring fringe ingeniously crafted into twisted rolls. These exquisite designs evoked a bold, carefree spirit that energized both the wearer and the onlooker.

Sea Urchin–esque Embellishments

Mulier is often recognized for his minimalist approach, which allows his inherent designs' quality and structure to shine without unnecessary embellishments. However, the latest collection featured a notable departure with the introduction of sea urchin–esque adornments. These intricate yet organic textured shapes appeared throughout the collection, enhancing footwear and the necklines of tops.

Square-Toe Shoes

Anyone who has been a fan of Mulier's work is likely aware of the designer's beautifully constructed footwear (think of Alaïa's coveted ballet flats). However, instead of laser-cut patterns or mesh designs, Alaïa embraced sculptural footwear with square-toe shoes. The collection included square-toe thigh-high boots, pumps, and ankle-strap heels, each designed with precision, transforming the shoes into works of art. The bold, geometric shape of the square toe added an avant-garde touch to the collection and enhanced the brand's artistic vision while offering a modern reinterpretation of classic footwear.

Before we proceed, let me caution you against throwing out all your barrel-leg jeans. It's a chic silhouette, plain and simple. All I'm suggesting is that you get rid of a few of the pairs you've undoubtedly acquired over the last year or two to make room for their elevated big sister—barrel trousers. Think of them as a dressed-up, more sophisticated, Pais-approved version of barrel jeans. Convinced yet? You should be.

The sleek denim alternative was just spotted during Paris Fashion Week on none other than supermodel and entrepreneur Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She's been fashion city–hopping these last few weeks, attending shows for Burberry and Ferragamo. Throughout her travels, she's brought out chic ensemble after chic ensemble, but none come close to her latest outfit, which she was seen wearing outside of the Ritz Paris.

For a day of shopping at Alaïa and more, Huntington-Whiteley chose to style a pair of black Alaïa barrel-leg trousers with a leather funnel-neck jacket, Balenciaga Knife boots (which she's been donning all over Europe this trip), a clutch by The Row, and Miu Miu's oversize Enigme sunglasses. Sleek, expensive, and sophisticated, the look was Paris to a T, and it all centered on her barrel trousers.

I almost always go with the black option when it comes to large, budget-altering investments. That's not exactly a shocking statement, I know, but I say it because I recently strayed from my norm. Two months ago, I flew to London, took a two-hour train ride to Paris, jumped in a taxi to Alaïa's store on Rue de Marignan off the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, and spent a significant amount of money on a handbag that wasn't black. It was navy blue, and if I'm being honest, it's chicer than any of my black bags. Hell, it's chicer than all of my other handbag colors too, including brown and burgundy.

Funnily enough, despite planning a day trip to Paris for the sole purpose of buying an Alaïa Le Teckel bag, I ultimately flew home to New York with a bag I hadn't intended to purchase. I'd done all kinds of research, and from it, I decided to invest in a burgundy suede Le Teckel Clutch. That said, when the sales associate told me it was completely sold out and black was the only color left in stock, I immediately widened my search. That's when I laid eyes on the larger version of the original Le Teckel shoulder bag in navy blue nubuck leather. Just like that, the decision was made.

I'd never really considered buying a handbag in the non-black neutral, despite it being a color I wear very regularly in my apparel. Burgundy, cream, and shades of brown? Sure, but never navy blue. Once I owned one, though, I started digging into the handbag hue, realizing quickly that many of fashion's top brands were trading in traditional colors for navy in 2025. Bottega Veneta, Khaite, Toteme, and The Row all debuted navy versions of their most famous bags in the lead-up to the New Year, including Bottega Veneta's Lauren and Sardine styles and The Row's Edith and Half Moon silhouettes.

Luxury designers weren't the only ones catching on, though. More affordable labels like Polo Ralph Lauren, Longchamp, and Coach launched navy-blue handbags, and Madewell, J.Crew, and Mango also joined the trend.

Suffice it to say that I felt vindicated and more ready than ever to show off my nontraditional handbag color choice as often as possible. Every year, I treat myself to a luxury purchase, often opting for a designer bag. To ensure I make the best decision, I spend a lot—I mean a lot—of time keeping up with new launches and perusing Instagram to see which bags are making waves so I can pick the right one to buy. After 11 months of research this year, I've narrowed it down to two investment-worthy styles making waves between NYC and London: the Khaite Simona bag and the Alaïa Le Teckel bag.

What’s fascinating is that these two bags, while hailing from distinct design philosophies, share a striking similarity. The Simona and the Le Teckel are east-west bags, characterized by their sleek, elongated forms. The Alaïa Le Teckel—a nod to the beloved dachshund in French—boasts a slim rectangular silhouette enhanced by its long, structured double straps and functional double zipper. Crafted from supple calfskin leather and lined with a sumptuous suede lambskin, it is available in various colors and textures, from chic black leather to warm tan suede. Though it debuted in the brand's S/S 24 collection, the design initially flew under the radar. However, the moment celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Julianne Moore were spotted with it, the bag catapulted into the spotlight.

Conversely, the Khaite Simona bag was acclaimed almost immediately after the designer's F/W 24 show. Fashion enthusiasts eagerly refreshed the brand’s website, desperate to secure their own. While it has quickly risen to fame, the Simona transcends mere trendiness with its timeless silhouette that promises longevity within Khaite's repertoire. This piece embodies Khaite's ethos of quiet luxury and minimalist sophistication.

Much like the Le Teckel, the Simona showcases an elegantly elongated shape accompanied by two straps and a practical top zipper, all while maintaining a non-logo aesthetic. However, overall it is a larger bag with notably shorter and less structured straps.

The spring/summer 2025 collections brought many ideas into focus, but perhaps the biggest takeaways from fashion month were a renewed sense of softness, new maximalism, and a return to personal style. This is a notable shift away from fashion centered on minimalism, quiet luxury, and practical wearability, which has dominated for the past several seasons. Instead, there is a sense of joy returning to fashion and restored energy around the art of getting dressed.

We've already seen personality pieces enter into wardrobes in the form of unexpected items such as pillbox hats, but that has only been dialed up as designers call attention to highly personal looks. Brands such as Prada and Valentino made the case for this, bringing individuality back to fashion on the runway through inventive styling. Chanel returned to the Grand Palais after a four-year renovation, ushering the lightness of the space into the collection—a sensibility that permeated throughout fashion month overall. We even saw this movement toward softer palettes and more romantic silhouettes from brands, such as Khaite, that have come to be known for darker, edgier collections. Bottega Veneta, too, felt whimsical, using childlike playfulness as a point of inspiration. Saint Laurent was able to tap into several of the season's bigger themes, including soft power and opulence, which were prominent throughout the collections. The key accessory of 2025 arrived in the form of modern peep-toe shoes at Tory Burch and ACNE Studios. There is a lot to unpack from the runway collections in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, and ahead are the big takeaways.

What's come to be known as corporatecore has had a hand in fashion for years now. Following lockdown, people became surprisingly excited about the concept of putting on a suit or any office-appropriate ensemble instead of sweatpants for their 9-to-5s. For spring 2025, designers began to soften the once sharp tailoring that fell under this aesthetic, moving beyond traditional suiting in some cases and crafting a wardrobe for the modern working person who wants to look work-ready but still chic and comfortable. They still project power and influence with their ensembles, but now, it's in a far less obvious and intimidating fashion. At Ferragamo, Gabriela Hearst, and Stella McCartney, this energy manifested itself by way of subtly slouchy trench coats paired with pumps and structured handbags. The Row, Bottega Veneta, Christopher Esber, and, most notably, Saint Laurent, displayed the "soft power" look in the form of oversize suiting styled alongside cool accessories—from statement eyewear to cuff bracelets.

The fall/winter 2024 runways saw red—the color that had dominated the fashion circuit for over a year—ascend from just another trend to timeless status before our eyes. More shades of the color appeared, particularly burgundy, but instead of feeling like a short-lived fad, every variation of red on the runways appeared to be just as wearable as the many black, cream, and gray ensembles we saw in spades. All of that is to say that red's promotion made room for a new color trend to reach ubiquity the following season, and powder pink was quick to fill that spot. Throughout the spring/summer 2025 shows, powder pink garnered attention from the powers that be in fashion with a heavy showing in New York at Alaïa, Khaite, and Brandon Maxwell and in Milan and Paris at Miu Miu, Chanel, Valentino, and Jil Sander. Though not exactly groundbreaking for spring, the soft shade did feel fresh and airy compared to some of the darker colors we've come to expect from these brands, Khaite in particular.

With the rise of micro-trends on the internet and social media platforms, there has been a sameness in fashion, but have we lost touch with our personal style? That seemed to be the question designers were contemplating on the runways. This became clear at Prada, where Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons discussed the era of internet algorithms and emphasized a return to individuality on the runways. Rather than a concrete theme like we have come to expect at Prada, the sensibilities changed from look to look, and each model seemed to have a different sense of style. This continued throughout the season with looks that emphasized individuality and personal style. This often came down to styling.

At Chloé, an all-black look felt personal with the addition of a pillbox hat, oversize sunglasses, and layers of gold jewelry. Similarly, head-to-toe black stood apart at Gucci with a skirt that was finished with a wide-brimmed hat and leather gloves. In other collections such as Miu Miu and Marni, this was achieved by mixing unexpected prints. On several occasions throughout the spring/summer 2025 season, we witnessed looks sent down the runway that undoubtedly drew from Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's sophisticated and modern sense of style. These ensembles displayed the air of simplicity and elegance that so many late '90s socialites and publicists did with Prada, Yohji Yamamoto, and Calvin Klein. Just like hers, they featured slight touches—be it a subtle, cool styling trick, or an unexpected tailoring or accessory choice. Come spring, these details will make people turn and wonder who the person wearing them is and how they, too, can get their look. Dubbed by us "the modern socialite," this savvy dresser has the very best taste, gets invited to everything, and always shows up in something worth saving to a mood board.

For spring 2025, those looks will include Max Mara's classic black-and-white shirt and pencil skirt with its peekaboo black bikini underneath; Tove's high-neck, sheer maxi dress with its wide, waist-accentuating belt; and Toteme's butter-yellow satin minidress fit with an attached scarf. For added measure, wear black tights and a bright-red lip.

"Opulence" is one of the words that hit the lips of showgoers throughout the season as designers continued to debut extravagant looks on the runways. In recent years, quiet luxury and minimalism have set the tone for style largely rooted in simplicity and pared-back pieces. For spring 2025, however, we've seeing the opposite play out with a return to the unbridled maximalism that has been absent from fashion for many seasons. At Saint Laurent, we saw this in the form of brocade jackets, ruffled satin skirts, high-neck lace tops, and gemstone-encrusted pumps. At Loewe, dramatic, sculptural jackets were executed in gleaming mother-of-pearl. At Dries Van Noten, tapestry-print satin jackets were paired with heavily embellished pencil skirts. This new sense of opulence takes on a "more is more" approach to style that is ornate, lavish, and undeniably grand.

The moment the Tory Burch show concluded at the Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn, editors began discussing the peep-toe heels from the runway. The shoes were designed with a towering and curved heel, glossy finish, and cutout peep toe positioned near the inner corners—an instant must-have item on our 2025 shopping lists. It was also one of the first glimpses at the peep-toe trend that swept the collections. At Khaite, minimal pumps with a micro cutout hit the runway. At ACNE Studios, slingbacks were finished with a spherical peep toe and an elongated, squared-off silhouette. At Prada, the designers resurrected styles from the archives, including a fall/winter 2008 version that was notably released during one of the last times peep-toe shoes were widely popular. Now, its comeback is sweeping and imminent. Instead of more traditional styles, the peep-toe heels of 2025 are returning with modern takes that reimagine the classic cutout shoes.

The fashion world, like us, is craving romance and expressing itself via soft, sheer, and flowing chiffon fabrics in ethereal shades and delicate floral patterns that immediately evoke images of a Keira Knightley period piece filmed in a grassy countryside at the peak of summer. At Chanel, airiness and flight were the cornerstones of its S/S 25 collection, with capes and feathers both finding places on models wearing transparent materials in a brightly lit Grand Palais. Chemena Kamali's sophomore collection for Chloé was the perfect continuation of her first, including bubble hems, lingerie-like lace, and florals, all through a bohemian lens. At Khaite, Creative Director Catherine Holstein utilized see-through fabrics and pale shades to cue a shift in her design strategy catalyzed by motherhood, according to an interview from Vogue.

You've heard of the wrong-shoe theory, a styling trick coined by stylist Allison Bornstein that involves pairing an outfit with shoes that would normally feel mismatched or incorrect to create a more interesting, adventurous ensemble. But have you heard of the wrong-jacket theory? Probably not, which makes sense given that we just made it up. The spring/summer 2025 runways made it abundantly clear that personal style and individualism will reign supreme when warmer weather arrives later on next year, and one of the many ways that was showcased was in the form of stylists topping looks with seemingly incompatible jacket options, specifically sporty and technical silhouettes. See sequin dresses at Prada, Brandon Maxwell, Rabanne, and Burberry combined with clashing outerwear, from nylon zip-ups to fur-trimmed parkas. In other words, expect the unexpected, and don't be afraid to play around with your top layers when spring arrives.

Textiles are taking on more tactile forms, which are showing up in a number of iterations in the spring/summer 2025 collections. Whether soft-to-the-touch feathers or twisting fringe that showcases a new sense of engineering in fabrics, the pieces automatically inspire a want of touch. Alaïa introduced voluminous, spiraled fringe coats, and Proenza Schouler executed fringe in the form of miniskirts and strapless dresses. Chanel added a playful, light touch to romantic feathers, while Loewe took on feathers in a modern way that fused them into a textile nearly resembling a woven fabric. Khaite layered pom-pom skirts under tailored outerwear. Bottega Veneta showcased hats that resembled rubber Koosh balls from childhood. Each look took on textiles in a touchable, feel-good way, emphasizing a renewed exploration of outside-the-ordinary textures.

There wasn't a single guest at Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday party in London that didn't show out in the style department. They sold out completely weeks ago but have since started trickling back in at stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman and on Alaïa's own website.

Huntington-Whiteley is one of an elite few who've gotten their hands on one among the celebrity set, with the east-west shoulder bag fit with two long straps also showing up on Rihanna and Julianne Moore. Now that colors are starting to become available again, I get the feeling that there will be a lot more sightings where those come from very soon. Celebrities and influencers alike have been testing out the new flat-shoe trend, and with each image, I'm growing more convinced of their chic prowess. Take a look at Jennifer Lawrence, who stepped out in a pared-back ensemble that epitomises quiet luxury through the simple pairing of a white tee, black crossbody bag, blue jeans, and of course, mesh shoes, from none other than Alaïa.

When new trends seemingly appear out of nowhere, they're generally a metamorphosis of an existing must-have style that has developed into the latest iteration. Of course, ballet flats have been back on fashion's radar for the last couple of years, and the mesh shoe trend seems to be an evolution on this. Designer brands like Khaite, Alaïa and The Row have all been toying with the trend and have released early mesh versions; some embellished, some pure and simple. Since these designs arrived, there's been a slow and steady rise of styles appearing across more mid-range independent brands like Dear Frances and Loeffler Randall too. To start with, I can't deny the whole WWWUK team were a little taken aback by this controversial, toe-baring trend, but we can now officially say we've retracted our initial reservations and (most of us) have been fully won over by the surprisingly delicate and refined look that a sheer shoe shoe can add to an outfit.
