With autumn just around the corner and temperatures dropping quickly here in the UK, I've already started thinking about my cold-weather skincare routine. Whilst I focus on hydration all year round, soon I know I’ll need to take it up a notch to protect my skin from the harsh wind and chilly weather. My top priority as someone with very dry skin? Swapping out my everyday moisturiser for an ultra-hydrating, rich cream.

What Is a Rich Cream?

Much like the name suggests, a rich cream is a thick, deeply nourishing moisturiser designed to hydrate and repair the skin. Packed with skincare ingredients such as ceramides, shea butter and argan oil, a rich cream can also be great at restoring the skin barrier. Because of these nourishing ingredients, the texture of a rich cream tends to be heavier than that of a water- or gel-based moisturiser. What are Korean face masks?

In short, these face masks are developed by Korean skincare brands or inspired by Korean skincare practices. "Sheet masks are probably the most well-known type of facial mask, but masks also come in many other forms including cream, hydrogel, clay, sleeping, bubble, and rinse-off masks," says Queen. "They attempt to address common concerns including hydration, glow, barrier support, and skin clarity by delivering concentrated ingredients to target specific skin goals."

How are Korean face masks different from other face masks?

If you've ever questioned what it is about Korean face masks that make them so good, the first place to look are the ingredients. "Many Korean masks emphasize hydration and soothing ingredients over strong exfoliants or other stripping active ingredients," says Queen.

Min adds that these face masks are also an extension of the larger Korean skincare philosophy, which tends to emphasize hydration, maintaining a healthy skin barrier, and addressing inflammation before it becomes a bigger problem. Additionally, K-beauty masks are also more sophisticated with many of the formulas focusing on specific needs (ex: barrier repair, pigmentation, dehydration, etc.) rather one generic "hydrating mask."

Then, there's price point. "As a Korean American plastic surgeon, one cultural difference I notice is that Koreans don't necessarily think of a face mask as an occasional luxury or spa treatment—it can be a very routine part of skincare," says Min. "Because it's treated as routine skincare rather than exclusively as a luxury treatment, there is tremendous competition to make formulas that are elegant and affordable." Nikki's Honest Review

To be honest, I'm not usually a big sweater person. Unless the knit is very thin and features a high V-neck—yes, I know that is extremely specific—I generally don't find most silhouettes flattering on my frame. However, when I first learned about the new J.Crew Tiny Rollneck, I was immediately intrigued to try it out for myself. Something about its modern shrunken silhouette, chunky ribbed cuffs, and hem felt like it would integrate effortlessly into my wardrobe—and, as it turns out, my intuition was right.

Thanks to my job as a fashion editor, I was lucky enough to get my hands on samples of the sweater earlier this week ahead of its release. I selected the navy and ivory—two neutral colorways that look expensive and are timeless—opting for an XXS in both. Once the package arrived, I unboxed them right away to test the fit. The first detail I was thoroughly pleased with was the sizing. I initially worried that an XXS might feel overly restrictive or tight, but it fit comfortably, even when layered over a white T-shirt. As a petite person, I also appreciated that the hem hits right at the waistband of my mid-to-low-rise trousers and jeans. This lets me easily add a belt without worrying about the bulk of tucking a thick knit into my pants. The chunky ribbed trim and slightly relaxed collar give the piece an easy effortlessness that I always seek out in fall wardrobe staples.
