As someone with naturally thin lips, it's always been the product that makes the biggest difference to my makeup. I wouldn't call myself an expert in many things—jack of all trades, master of none seems more fitting. But packing? Packing, I know. There are a few key spring and summer events that help our editors keep an eye out for inspiration and trends, runways, of course, red carpets, after-parties and The Met Gala.

This year Hunter Schafer wore one of our team's favourite red carpet looks of the night, which was a custom Prada gown inspired by Gustav Klimt's "Mäda Primavesi." Then, for the Saint Laurent after-party at People's Bar in New York City, she changed into a custom dress by emerging British designer Steve O Smith and carried one particular accessory: Prada's Wish Pouch.

I don't know about you, but my IG is still feeling the effect of FX's Love Story. As expected, it started with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy–inspired outfits and has quickly spiraled into a '90s fashion magazine archive, where @curatedbysofiaa lectures on the beauty of vintage Vogue Italia. Thanks to IG comments and its niche community-building, it seems I'm not alone; indeed, fashion people everywhere are pining for the iconic minimalism of the '90s. So much so It girls are rediscovering brands that defined the decade. The first name on the list: Eileen Fisher.

Whenever I think of the defining pieces of '90s minimalism, my mind goes straight to a simple black silk slip dress. Style Notes: As someone who has spent a considerable amount of time in Los Angeles over the years, those local to the city wear denim in a way that feels exceptionally desirable. Blame it on the fact that it’s a crucial part of the off-duty wardrobes of the endless creative types who live there, but the fabric is the closest thing to a uniform you could get. That’s why brands that hail from this part of the globe pique my interest. They instantly understand the casual-meets-considered edge that denim can bring, and this pair of denim shorts from Citizens of Humanity certainly delivers on all fronts.

Style Notes: Another brand that calls Los Angeles home, Agolde has swiftly become one of the leading prestige denim brands, courtesy of the way the brand marries vintage shapes with modern fabrics and environmentally considered manufacturing practices. As someone who has penned many essays on how beloved Agolde’s jeans are, it should come as no surprise that its denim shorts are just as sought after. I truly mean this as a compliment when I say that style feels like someone has just taken a pair of scissors to the iconic Harper style, which is a straight-leg cut made from the smoothest and most relaxed fabric.

Long and loose, this style has already become the hardest-working pair of denim shorts in my wardrobe. With a fluid shape and resilient material, I throw these on when I want to look more put together when running errands, whether it be nipping up to the shops or spending several hours trawling through my favourite stores. My only caveat is that spending over £200 on a pair of denim shorts that I’ll mostly wear for my more dressed-down outings is a considerable investment. Still, factoring in that my lifestyle is more laidback anyway, I do find myself gravitating towards these compared to my sleek pencil skirts and towering heels, so the cost per wear is still considerably low.

Style Notes: Elsewhere, closer to home, the most refined dressers in London are all wearing Dala denim, a design studio that produces 100% organic cotton styles that are all ethically manufactured in Paraguay. Cool and contemporary, the style I’ve tried here is part of its new collection, which is built around the concept that denim is a core part of a considered uniform. After wearing them on repeat, I couldn’t concur with this sentiment more. The style itself has a ‘90s sensibility, with clean lines, grungy accents and a true vintage wash.

As the brand says, the singular wash is “the perfect lived-in blue, softly faded with time, years of wear and sun-bleached memories”. This style has a tailored finish, which elevates anything it’s paired with. In this case, I’m choosing to wear it with my favourite three-quarter length top from Cou Cou Intimates, which is like catnip for cool girls this summer and jelly flip-flops from Ancient Greek Sandals. Truly, the best thing about this pair is how simple and effective it is. When focusing on the precise fit, this style really shines as any anything-but-boring basic that I honestly love wearing. Who knows, I might even embrace my inner Chloë Sevigny or Courtney Love come autumn and pair these with gathered loafers and a checked shirt.

Style Notes: H&M is a high-street giant that balances trend-forward pieces with timeless basics. This pair certainly falls into the latter category, given the fact that it’s a mid-rise shape that doesn’t feel either super short or super long. Speaking to Rosie Ingleby, the London-based creative director and co-founder of DALA, she explains there are several things to look out for when it comes to shopping for the best pair of denim shorts. She mentions that factors like length, fabric and wash is important, but in a world so fixated with vintage jeans and nostalgia, one of the primary concerns should be in making sure your denim shorts feel authentic to you. "This is such an important thing for me, Ingleby explains. Otherwise, read our cheat sheet to finding the perfect pair of shorts below:

• Size: Denim uses its own measurement scale. As a quick guide, the number listed, which is usually from size 23 - 32, refers to the width of the jeans in inches, as measured around the hips. As a result, there's no real true equivalent for translating between these sizes and the small, mediums and larges we're used to. That's why, especially when shopping online, it's best to take careful consideration of the size guide listed on the website. Your typical size might go across a few options, so be sure to read the fine print closely and see if they tend to size up or down. Remember, denim rarely offers any stretch, so it's always best to opt for a bigger size if you're unsure. Denim is much easier to shrink than it is to stretch.
• Length: When shorts can fall anywhere from the upper thigh to just above the knee, you'll want to make sure you look for the inseam details to guarantee the item you're buying hits exactly where you intend it to. For the uninitiated, the inseam refers to the measurement from the crotch to the hem, so you should be able to know for certain where on your leg they'll stop before you buy. If you're looking to invest in a pair for this summer, Ingleby tells me that "longer silhouettes" are rising in popularity, particularly "longer line Bermuda lengths with a slightly higher rise."
• Wash: Wash is another factor. The most polished shades are the most vibrant, whether it be a deeper, indigo blue or a crisp white. However, I make this caveat to note that the dye of some denim shorts can transfer in the wash. If you want to preserve the quality and colour of your denim shorts, and avoid them staining your other items of clothes, wash inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle and preferably with a colour catcher sheet

What Should You Look for in a Buildable Foundation?

The key to finding a truly buildable foundation comes down to the formula. A good buildable base should allow you to gradually increase coverage where you need it, without becoming heavy, cakey or obvious on the skin. Celebrity makeup artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis explains that it's “the right formula, texture and amount that allows the makeup to be layered and build up coverage while still looking like skin”. She adds that it should contain “long-lasting ingredients that don’t separate but can stay in its true form” even after multiple layers are applied.

For this reason, lightweight textures tend to work best. Nguyen-Grealis recommends “thin, serum or satin and lightweight formulations” because “they melt instead of sitting on the skin.” These types of foundations are much easier to customise depending on your needs that day, whether you want a sheer wash of coverage or something more perfected for a special occasion.

Buildable foundations are particularly useful if your skin isn’t completely uniform, but you don’t want a full-coverage finish across your entire face. As Nguyen-Grealis explains, they’re ideal for skin that “needs variation of extra coverage especially for acne or pigmentation,” as they allow you to add more product only where it’s needed. The result is a much more natural-looking complexion because, as she says, “several layers are better than one.”

What Is the Best Way to Build Foundation?

When it comes to building foundation, the application technique is just as important as the formula itself. The goal isn’t to apply one thick layer and hope it covers everything—it’s to create a lightweight first layer, then gradually add more coverage where needed. Nguyen-Grealis recommends starting with properly prepped skin, explaining: “I like to ensure skin is prepped fully with a well-cleaned, moisturised base, primed for a smooth base before application.” This creates a smoother canvas and helps the foundation sit evenly throughout the day.

She suggests thinking of your first layer “as a tinted moisturiser first,” using a foundation or stippling brush to apply a light, even finish across the skin. From there, you can assess where you need more coverage and go back in with a firmer foundation brush to build up specific areas. “Stipple or dab using blenders also helps with building more control,” she adds, as pressing the product into the skin rather than sweeping it around helps maintain that natural, skin-like finish.

The foundation itself also makes a difference. Nguyen-Grealis recommends “light and cream foundations” for the most seamless buildable finish, as they “don’t dry or oxidise as much.” She advises avoiding formulas that are more difficult to layer, noting that “mattes, mousse, and powder foundations” don’t tend to offer the same flexibility. The trick is to build slowly—you can always add more coverage, but removing excess product once it has been applied is much harder.

I may have begun my first-ever season of Love Island USA six weeks ago, but I'm not new to the franchise—and the drama, of course. Lately we have been exploring the natural world on many of our boots, creating wildflowers, butterflies, and insects in intricate inlay overlay patterns. "Teaming up with Coach feels incredibly meaningful because craftsmanship has always been at the center of my work. I’ve spent more than 20 years working with textiles, exploring how material, construction, labor, and tradition can carry a story. I’m especially interested in taking familiar materials and techniques and pushing them into a contemporary context. Coach has its own deep history of American craftsmanship, so being invited to bring my perspective into that legacy feels both exciting and deeply aligned with my practice. I love the idea that craftsmanship is not something static or nostalgic. It is alive. It evolves through the hands of the people making things now. For me, this collaboration is a celebration of that continuum: honoring skill, material, and tradition while also asking what American craft can look like today.

"The piece took approximately 18 months from the initial design process through final construction. My process is very hands-on and iterative, so a significant part of that time was spent responding to the materials themselves. I develop the composition, cut and arrange the textiles, make adjustments, and continue refining the work as it comes together. Even with a clear initial concept, there is always a conversation between the design and the physical making. As one does when it's too hot to step outside, I recently took stock of the contents of my closet, including my denim collection, and I made a glaring observation: I accidentally purchased far too many pairs of straight-leg jeans over the past several years. Every summer, I head out way east and go to Madrid, Spain. I've gone for seven years in a row now, each trip making me fall more and more in love with the city. It's practically become my second home—so much so that I decided nearly two years ago to host my wedding there!

Over the years, Spanish women and their fashion ethos have influenced my personal style in more ways than I can count. Striped jeans have quietly become one of summer 2026's defining denim trends, with brands embracing candy-colored pinstripes and pastel palettes that feel especially fresh for warm weather. Instead of reaching for white jeans or linen pants, fashion insiders are opting for striped denim to add a bit of color and personality while still treating it like a neutral.

With this Zara pair, I found that the colorful stripes somehow managed to feel playful without veering costumey, making them the perfect antidote to the sea of classic blue denim that typically dominates summer wardrobes across other European cities. (Cough, cough, Paris.)

Nordstrom's biggest sale of the year is back, and I'd go as far as to say this Anniversary Sale is even better than last year's. While sometimes shopping a sale can feel like picking through leftovers to find the one hidden gem, it couldn't be further from the case with this one. One month ago, my boyfriend and I packed up our 500-square-foot Upper West Side apartment to move to Los Angeles, where a house double that size (albeit still with one bedroom) was waiting for us. In the lead-up to the move, we basically got rid of everything furniture-wise, moving with only a kitchen table, some rogue accent pieces, and, of course, all of my clothes. Now, a month in, I'm steadily replacing all the pieces we left behind in Manhattan, sourcing items that feel right for our new, more modern, light-filled space.
