The Who What Wear Australia Editors on the Summer Trend They're Trying First

There's nothing like a brand new season to inspire you to give your wardrobe some love (and let's not beat around the bush, everyone loves summer style above all). We can't really contain our excitement that this time of year is finally here—Christmas decorations, parties, warm nights—it's all fun.

So while you've been prepping your bikini wishlist, and shopping our editor's picks of the best pieces in stores right now, we've been working on planning our own summer wardrobes.

This summer, we've seen some exciting new trends pop up. Keep scrolling to discover the trends our editors will be trying first.

"The open back trend, for sure. Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses were the key pieces in my wardrobe last summer so inevitably I am a bit over that trend. Back-baring tops are definitely the next best thing and give a similar vibe."

"There’s something about a linen dress that just screams summer to me. I love that so many brands like SIR The Label, Nice Martin, and Matin are creating easy-to-wear pieces in linen—it keeps you cool, and gives a nice, structured shape. This super simple white slip dress by Matin will be my go-to this season—plus the LWD is the new LBD, right?"

"The only things I want to buy for summer, are linen dresses—I would love to own a linen dress in every colour. So easy to wear, I’ve already added a few to my collection—they are the perfect combination of comfort, style, and cool. I added black to my collection first, and I’ve been wearing it to the office with black block heels, and on weekends with Converse."

"I normally don’t reach for feminine pieces when planning my own outfits, but there’s something drawing me towards ruffles this season. Maybe it’s because all I can imagine right now, is wearing a flouncy blouse with step-hem jeans, and a pair of bulky sandals. It’s the perfect mix of feminine and edgy (P.S. I hate using the word ‘edgy’ but you know what I mean!)."

"I've been resisting buying off the shoulder tops or dresses because I know the trend is heading out. Instead, I am hitting the open-back like a maniac. Just means I have to be super cautious when out in the sun, and also up my self-tan game. The trend is super sexy so for work, I'll ensure I wear a midi skirt or jeans to keep some skin covered."

"I’m finding it really hard to choose just one—there are so many amazing trends coming through for summer, but if I had to then it would be gingham. I’ve always been a fan of the print, but I haven’t owned anything with the print in a while. I think of it as elevated and chic because of the David Jones branding. I’ve owned three gingham pieces in the past—a pair of straight leg trousers when I was younger, a mini Max Mara tote bag and a mini gingham skirt. I will definitely be adding to my gingham collection this summer with a blouse. If the print is good enough for Brigitte Bardot… then I want in. I have my eye on a top from Seed Heritage."
