Social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook have long struggled with how to integrate shopping into their users’ experiences. Instagram just recently launched shoppable ads, and Facebook is now taking one more step in a fully shoppable direction: by testing a shopping tab.
According to Adweek, Facebook is testing a new shopping feature on its mobile site, called Canvas; it’s a full-screen ad–based experience that provides a full description of products, then links users directly out to retailers so they can purchase items. In this regard, the Facebook feature has already surpassed Instagram’s, which still doesn’t allow hyperlinks inside posts.
