Recently, a few that have caught our eye are not only based in our very own sunny Los Angeles, but are also doing their parts to make both the fashion world and the world at large a better place. Bon George, which runs on the philosophy to “keep it conscious,” uses production practices that are mindful of the environment (amongst other things, they use salvaged vintage textiles and trims). What’s more, they also put ethics into their manufacturing by ensuring fair wages and ethical sourcing. Their pieces are both designed and assembled in L.A., which can be seen through their cool-girl designs.
Founder Phoebe Dahl designs everything in Los Angeles and is dedicated to supporting women’s groups around the world. Not only does Faircloth & Supply use organic linen and rescued deadstock cotton (cotton that has already been produced but never used) to reduce its carbon footprint, but each garment sold outfits one girl in Nepal—in 2014 alone, the brand was responsible for getting nearly 1,000 Nepali girls into school.
