In honour of Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power’s new book, The Career Code: Must-Know Rules for a Strategic, Stylish, and Self-Made Career ($22), we’re kicking off an interview series featuring 17 questions (in honour of the book's 17 chapters) about the work lives of the most inspirational female leaders in the fashion industry. So far, we’ve tapped Pip Edwards, Rebecca Minkoff, Sally Singer, Rachel Zoe, and more. Up next? Designer Danielle Mulham of Posse.
Towards the end of 2016, we spotted a new Australian label popping up all over our Instagram feeds—Posse. Since then, the Sydney-based label launched by Danielle Mulham, has been quickly growing its following, and expanding its collections. Marta Ortiz, Maria Bernard, Pepa Mack, and Lucy Williams are just some of the influencers we've spotted in the new label.
Posse fills a gap in your wardrobe—it gets resort dressing right—with its vintage shapes, fabricated in luxuriously soft linen, we imagine every fashion girl will live in the label come summer.
Because we've got the warmer months on the mind, we reached out to Mulham to learn more about her day-to-day running one of our favourite new Australian brands.

"Exciting, thrilling, and challenging. Each day that goes by, I feel so blessed to call this my 'job'—watching my company grow and develop is the most rewarding feeling. No day is ever the same and I am doing what I love, and working with incredibly creative, talented, and driven people that have like-minded goals."
"It is a rule that I like to call 80/20—20% glam, 80% dirty determination. Fashion is idealised as a very glorified industry. The truth of the matter is, it is hard work and there are very long nights. Mind you, the thrill of designing and seeing my pieces on influencers and customers is worth all the blood, sweat, and tears."
"I have truly forgotten, but this is probably for good reason! A general tip: Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. How are you expected to make a good first impression when you are not feeling yourself?"
"Caroline De Maigret. French women just seem to have it all figured out—life, love, and business. I am fascinated at their ability to exude power through their wardrobe and manner. Caroline encapsulates all that I admire. She has this strength, you can see that she is a smart, respectful woman with a wealth of knowledge."
"Posse has never been trend-driven. Mind you, there is a line of questioning that comes with designing each individual piece—is this timeless? Classic? Unique? Effortless?
I find myself inspired by the women around me and on my travels. I spend nights trawling through Pinterest—I find this to be one of the most inspiring platforms. It is there that I create all my mood boards for upcoming collections and photo shoots. It is a place where all my inspiration can unfold and that I can always access no matter where I am in the world. I also visit Etsy daily, as they have the widest assortment of my favourite online vintage stores."
"I really try to steer clear of the word 'regret'. My honest opinion is that all mistakes in life are a learning experience and they get you to where you are. I am so happy to have experienced all that I have, good and bad, because ultimately they have brought me to Posse. So to all girls reading this, trust your path, and know that when you are feeling down, there is a valuable lesson life wants you to learn."
"All job titles will come with a set of skills, however I do believe that there are five key qualities regardless of the position you are applying.
- Confidence—the next time you go to an interview, walk in confidently, like you know you're the person they're going to hire.
- A presence—this could be a simple as a warm smile or a friendly demeanour.
- Knowledge—whether it be an insightful mind or an understanding of the industry."
"I never like to feel overdressed. I like things that are comfortable and let me move and not feel oppressed. So an oversized blouse, blazer, and leather pants. I should also note that there is nothing more liberating than slipping into your favourite high heels."
"I took the liberty of asking my assistant her thoughts here, as the only word that came to my mind is 'crazy'. She agreed, but also kindly offered, 'dedicated, hard-working, committed and inspiring.' I then gave her the afternoon off."
"Whenever I am feeling uninspired I must immediately remove myself from my current environment. This would mean leaving all my devices at home and going for a long walk, or visiting the ocean. I am so blessed to live near the beach, as I believe this to be the most nourishing space for the mind and soul. It is here that I am able to refresh, rejuvenate, and find the present moment. Mind you, if given the ability, I would travel to my heart's content, as exploration conjures my most exciting ideas."
"The most valuable advice I have in this instance is not to burn bridges and never make it personal. Show the utmost respect for your employers as you never know where or whom you'll cross paths with in the future."
"Lately anything with haloumi in it! I make a mean haloumi wrap filled with green goodness."
"I remember the first day at my job and how nervous I was, but there are some key factors that will help any new employee stand out in the masses.
- Never underestimate time management.
- Always ask questions when you are not sure. This is so important, as you are not expected to know everything and people are always happy to help.
- Always be early and turn your phone off through business hours. You will be surprised at who is taking notice and the appreciation this will arouse."
"For style inspiration… @CamilleCharriere, @Lindatol_, @Majawyh, @JeanneDamas, @Nycbambi, @ThomsenMichaela, @Maria_Bernad, @GiorgiaTordini, @LucyWilliams02, @LouiseFollain, @Vintagefashion, and @c__l__o.
"I am a morning person and it is so important that I enter each day with a clear mind. My mornings consist of a great playlist to get me in the mood for an early walk. From here, I head to my favourite coffee shop, Ora, and order my go-to almond latte and raw bircher muesli.
When the end of the day rolls around, I do find it quite difficult to switch off, often losing track of time. With social media and email, I don't know how anyone sleeps anymore?! This being said, I find a good TV series and glass of red will do the trick."
"Find something you love doing and you never have to work a day in your life."
"Spring! I am in the midst of designing and planning the launch of Posse S/S 17. I am so excited to share with everyone. The support to date has been incredible and I hope to keep surprising and exciting everyone for many years to come."
