Fall's 3 Biggest Colors Aren't What You Think

"Groutfits," camel and navy, black on black… Fall and winter are notorious for sucking the brighter hues out of our wardrobes, but we're putting our foot down this time around. Don't get us wrong—we love a classic neutral palette, but trust us when we say that if there was ever a season meant for experimenting with color (deep purples! eye-catching yellows!), this is the one.

And blogger Sheryl Luke of Walk in Wonderland has us convinced we can pull off all of F/W 17's must-try colors. Her Instagram is a master class in punching up chic neutrals with bold splashes of color, and suddenly it's the only way we want to dress. Whether she's in L.A. or New York, she effortlessly makes color feel a whole lot more wearable, so naturally we jumped at the chance to pick her brain for pointers.

Be it through her favorite HUE leggings or a cozy sweater, see three ways Luke is brightening up her fall wardrobe below (the perfect inspo for color-phobes everywhere).

If You Like Neutrals, Try Brick Red

Find yourself eternally gravitating toward a classic camel-colored trench? Mustard tones and brick reds will be right up your alley. Camel's brighter cousins will lend your outfit a refreshing burst of vibrancy. We're into the way Luke styled the shade with HUE's brick-red leggings and neutral pumps—picking different tones from the same color family is one of the easiest ways to guarantee your chosen shades work together.

Want to re-create her ensemble? "Always start with a staple piece—in this case, it's my suede HUE leggings," she tells us. To complete the look, layer in a cream bodysuit (or a turtleneck as things cool down). The pop of fresh neutral breaks up the tones, immediately making the overall look feel wearable and daytime friendly.

If You Like Navy, Try Deep Purple

Navy is perennially chic, thanks to its incredible versatility… So why not try deep purple? We dare you to swap the perennial navy wardrobe staple (ahem, jeans) for a relaxed joggers like this Luke-approved style from HUE—it's the fast-track for crafting a street style–worthy look.

Spent time style-stalking your favorite It girls on the streets of NYC, London, Milan, and Paris during fashion month? Us too. And one thing we noticed was that color-blocking is fast becoming a major trend. "This elevated ensemble can easily be worn as your weekend look," Luke explains, and we're immediately checking off all our favorite footwear options that these pants will work with. Burgundy block heels? Yes. Pink sneakers? Most definitely. White ankle boots? Yes. Sold.

If You Like Black and White, Try Black and Metallic

So we can't convince you to let go of black for even a minute? In that case, here's how to spice up your staple black leggings (and no, we don't mean the ones you wear to the gym) for the new season. For starters, now's the time to invest in a really good pair that will take you anywhere. Choose an elevated style that can double as skinny jeans, throw on a boyish blazer, and then (and here's the important part) step away from your black accessories. Instead, take a page out of Luke's book and pair them with on-trend moments of silver instead of defaulting to white (or more black).

Luke's currently super into HUE's distressed leggings, telling us they're actually dressy enough to style with her favorite metallic statement pieces. Her go-to accessories? Metallic loafers and a bag with shiny silver hardware. Your basic leggings can't do that, can they?

While she does love writing her fair share of fashion stories, her heart really belongs in the brainstorm room, where she has fun strategizing different ways to create content with our fashion partners so that you engage with the brands you know and love. Her style tends to be more classic (she loves a good black-and-white look with gold accessories), and white pumps are kind of her thing. If she had to pick one person's wardrobe to raid, it would be Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's, and she also has a major obsession with interior design. She's a mom to a 1-year-old baby girl named Sophie, and she fully plans on training her to spot fashion trends by the time she's 10. That's all!
