For anyone working in fashion or media, having an online presence is pretty much par for the course, but with constantly changing algorithms and a publishing industry that's in a constant state of flux, it can be an intimidating space to break into. Luckily, there are plenty of talented, successful women pioneering the space, and I was lucky enough to share the stage with a few of them.
I was fortunate enough to moderate a panel titled "Beyond the Likes" for College Fashionista (Who What Wear's sister site), where I was joined on stage by Samantha Ostroff, marketing director at Kendra Scott; Rachel Zeilic, VP of talent at Clique Brands (our parent company) and creative director of Majorelle Collection; and Marissa Fuchs, director of brand partnerships at Goop and the blogger behind Fashion Ambitionist. The trio all count themselves as experts in the space.
A few key tips they had for those looking to grow their social media presence: First, don't sweat the algorithm. Zeilic noted that everyone from the biggest influencers to someone just starting out are all in the same boat, so don't worry too much when things seem to be changing. Ostroff adds, "Whether you have 10 followers or 10 million followers, if you're a good representation of our brand, then we're going to want to work with you."
And one topic stressed by all three women: Stay true to yourself. Find unique sources of inspiration, and don't just do what everyone else is going. With hard work and an authentic point of view, you can't go wrong. Read on to shop a few key pieces to help you stand out on social.
