After what may seem to some like a truly endless summer, coat season is finally drawing nigh. It's still plenty warm in many parts of the nation, but there's at least a nearing promise of a chill in the air, and for now that's good enough to get us excited.
We wanted to know which coat styles would be the ones to truly fly off the shelves this season, so we enlisted the help of two of the industry's most prominent names: Net-a-Porter's senior buyer and Shopbop's style director. Interestingly, though we interviewed them both completely separately, they both told us the same kind of coat would sell out first—and to us, this means they're both 100% on the mark.

"Anything from deconstructed tweed to extra embellishments like gold double-breasted buttons and shearling collars, to prints like jacquard, will be a must-have this season.”

"Statement coats are huge for fall—think anything in a bright color, eye-catching print, or luxe texture,” Edelstein says. “Because really, there’s nothing more fun than putting on a bright, in-your-face coat, especially when it’s super dreary out. It’s like an instant mood lifter! Plus, a really special coat helps you stand out in a season dominated by black, gray, and navy.”
