#WomanCrushWednesday: 9 Things You Didn't Know About Charlotte Ronson

Charlotte Ronson is one of those rare designers whose creations manage to get hearts all aflutter in a number of very disparate circles: Her New York Fashion Week shows are a veritable buffet of It-girls and celebrities, her rock 'n roll aesthetic is regularly worn by said It-girls, and she also sells a more affordable version of her designs at JCPenney via a line called I Heart Ronson.

The 37-year-old British native now resides in New York, and we had a chance to sit down with her to pick her artistic brain about her favourite current trends, the trends she's not into, the staple pieces she thinks every woman should own, and much more. Keep scrolling to read nine interesting facts about Charlotte Ronson, our #WomanCrushWednesday this week!

As a designer, what is inspiring you this season?

This season, I'm drawn to more sophisticated looks: longer silhouettes, brighter and bolder prints, and graphic coloured lace—whilst still mix and matching feminine, flirty, or more romantic touches.

What do you think EVERY woman should have in her closet for fall?

My I Heart Ronson black moto jacket is the perfect staple, as it complements any and all kinds of looks, from day to night.

What do you prefer wearing when it gets nippy outside?

It's all about lots and lots of layers. My favourite look right now is an oversized sweater, belted and worn as a jacket over my high-waisted indigo Proenza Schouler jeans or any of my dresses.

What are your favourite trends this season? Any trends you're totally over?

Lace is always a classic, and I also love sheer and cutout details. I'm not into being too naked in the winter time.

Something you do very well is take high fashion and make it accessible to people via your I Heart Ronson collection at JCPenney. Why do you think that's so important for people?

We're all on some kind of budget, and everyone should be able to look and feel great without spending a fortune. I have always been a fan of mixing the high with the low, and making it look and feel like your own.

The holidays are here! What's your favourite gift you've ever received? What gifts do you love to give people?

My favourite gift I have ever received is a Kim McCarty watercolor painting as well as my Aurel Schmidt drawing. I try to make sure every gift I give is unique to that person, so it takes some serious thought, but my regular go-to is art , whether it’s photography by Pamela Hanson, Larry Clark, or Harry Benson, or a watercolor by Kim McCarty. These are for the special people in my life of course!

Let's say you're running late and need something stylish to wear. What's your go-to trick for getting out the door fast?

One of my favourite Charlotte Ronson or I Heart Ronson dresses, paired with an oversized chunky sweater or leather jacket.

Do you have a style uniform? What is it?

I’d like to think of my style as effortless: perfectly messy hair, a great pair of my favourite jeans, and a yummy, worn-in sweatshirt paired with booties. Or one of my flirty floral dresses paired with a chunky sweater or leather jacket.

What are the three items every woman should buy this season to take their style to the next level?

The moto jacket from my I Heart Ronson collection, slip dresses are the perfect thing to throw on, and girlfriend or boyfriend jeans!
