It wasn't so long ago that shopping for swimwear as a minimalist meant one of two things: a basic black bikini or a basic black one-piece. If you wanted something more thoughtfully designed—never mind something affordable—well, lots of luck.

That's all changed in the past few years, however, thanks to an influx of newbie brands that are making simple, sophisticated swimwear that's anything but boring, from fashion-girl favorites like Solid & Striped and Mikoh to direct-to-consumer startups like Bikyni and Andie.

Need more proof? Look no further than Instagram, where celebrities are trading flashy florals and gravity-defying cutouts for straightforward one- and two-piece suits in flattering neutral shades. Take one of Kendall Jenner's recent posts, in which the model poses in a poppy field wearing a white high-cut maillot. In just a few weeks, it's already racked up more than 3 million likes. After all, with that kind of scenery, who needs a distraction?

Below, see FOMO-inducing snaps from Jenner, Ashley Graham, Bella Hadid, and more—and shop minimalist-approved swimsuits at every price point.
