With New York Fashion Week in full swing, the city is overrun with some of the most fabulous people in the world: models, street style mavens, editors, and, yes, a whole slew of celebrities. While certain stars are front-row fixtures—Kim Kardashian, Olivia Palermo, Solange, and the like—throughout the years, there have been a number of surprising appearances made by some unlikely celebs. The rapper has actually attended a number of shows over the years, but we wouldn’t classify her as a fixture—nor would we ever think she would sneak in a tight squeeze with the iconic designer.
The basketball star doesn’t regularly show up for Fashion Week shows, so his arrival to the Ralph Lauren show in 2009 was more than a bit surprising. But with the news about his NBA fashion show in New York this season, perhaps that’s about to change.
Although DeNiro is the unofficial king of New York events, rare is the occasion when he’s shown his face at Fashion Week.
The one and only Fashion Week show Richard Gere has ever attended (at least on the record) was Mizrahi’s 1994 show. Perhaps he and DeNiro were seat neighbors!
The heartthrob star of True Blood isn’t exactly a fashion icon—which helps to explain his ultra-casual attire at Perry Ellis’ show in 2013.
It might seem logical that the Star Wars creator sat front row at the Rodarte show because the label’s F/W 14 collection featured imagery from his film franchise—until you realize that he actually came to the show a full year before that collection ever hit the runway. So many questions.
The diva songstress, despite the iconic looks she’s worn over the years, doesn’t have the closest relationship to the fashion industry. Although we must say: We love this look she wore to Calvin Klein’s 1994 show.
The last type of person you’d expect to see sitting front row is an NHL hockey player. We must say, though, that Richards looks quite handsome in the suit Abboud dressed him in for the occasion!
The Olympic swimmer went through a spell during the S/S 13 season during which he went to a ton of Fashion Week shows. After that, he seems to have grown out of his fashion phase.
The Jonas Brothers are actually no stranger to Fashion Week, but they usually end up going to the most random grouping of shows—Joe has been known to frequent The Blonds’ seasonal drag-inspired affair, and Kevin is a fan of designer Richard Chai’s shows.
Martha Stewart might not seem like the most logical choice for being a regular Fashion Week attendee, but the former model has been known to frequent her fair share of events.
