>The cast of Moonlight was hard to ignore last night, not only due to the film’s major award win. The ensemble was also the first to be dressed by the new chief creative officer of Calvin Klein, Raf Simons. Best Supporting Actress nominee Naomie Harris was spotted in a modern, sparkling white gown, and though her male costars wore the brand as well, this morning they also made their fashion campaign debut together as the faces of Calvin Klein Underwear.
According to Simons in a press release, the choice to feature actors Mahershala Ali (who took home the Best Supporting Actor award last night), Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, and Trevante Rhodes is “an acknowledgment of remarkable actors who are revealing something important of being a man today in what they do.”
>Echoing this sentiment is the brand’s creative director, Pieter Mulier: “Since the beginning, Calvin Klein’s underwear imagery has always made big statements about masculinity; the performances of these actors in Moonlight affected us deeply and made big statements about masculinity in a different way. Somehow we wanted to bring the two together.”
>Of course, doing things differently is something that Simons and Mulier have made clear about their time at Calvin Klein—be it with their very first underwear ad campaign or their first runway show. And the latest from the iconic brand has yielded some truly beautiful results.
