How to Approach Maternity Style Without Sacrificing Your Love of Fashion

Knowing how to dress a growing and changing body during pregnancy can be a daunting task, and doing so without sacrificing your love of fashion might feel impossible, but we're here to tell you it's not. Pregnancy and evolving style is a journey that many embrace. Australian style consultant Yasmin Sewell spoke to Nine In The Mirror during her second pregnancy and explained "I’m about finding pieces that work for pregnancy and not going down the obvious maternity road. I’m not going to buy things that I’m not going to wear afterwards."

The key is to approach maternity dressing in the same way you'd approach your pre-pregnancy body and take elements of your style, and find pieces you can adapt to suit your new shape.

Take the time to experiment with different shapes. If you love big, bold patterns, and would normally wear bright colours, find a dress that ticks those boxes in a shape that feels comfortable to you.

Dressing for events can be tricky, as our mum-to-be commercial editor recently pointed out, but with a few key pieces it can be easy. If you normally love to wear an LBD to events, trade it in for something loose fitting that you can wear for the whole nine months.
