From Kate Moss to Miley Cyrus, see who made the list this year.

After Marc Jacobs stepped down from his post as chief designer at Louis Vuitton in September, Nicolas Ghesquiere stepped up. Meanwhile, It-Brit designer David Koma is taking the reigns at Thierry Mugler after Nicola Formichetti departed in April.

When Gwyneth Paltrow arrived at the Iron Man 3 premiere in L.A. last spring, she caused a mild scandal with an Antonio Berardi dress that was business in the front, party on the side. “Let's just say everyone went scrambling for a razor,” the actress joked later of the revealing design. However, Paltrow’s dress was tame in comparison to the one Jaimie Alexander wore to the Thor: The Dark World premier in November. Of course, for both dresses, underwear need not apply.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the Vogue Editor-in-Chief had been named Artistic Director of Conde Nast, a position that essentially gave her jurisdiction over the company’s entire portfolio of magazines. Thus far, Lucky, Conde Nast Traveller, and Glamour have felt Wintour’s influence to varying degrees, but there’s no word on which title she’ll take on next.
Eschewing the latest crop of waifish models, Owens cast members of four college step teams in his S/S 14 show. The women’s exuberant dance performance shook the audience out of their fashion month malaise while bringing some much-needed diversity to the runway.
Kanye West is an understated, humble kind of guy. Ha, yeah right, on opposite day. As soon as we heard West had popped the question to baby momma, Kim Kardashian (at a ballpark stadium with fireworks, no less), we knew the ring had to be major. And Kimye did not disappoint. Clocking in at a whopping 15 carats, the Lorraine Schwartz design features a flawless cushion-cut diamond and is rumoured to be worth $8 million. Yeezus!

Most women react to turning 40 with a new hairdo or a pledge to do more yoga. Kate Moss— being Kate Moss— posed for Playboy. And, being Kate Moss, she looked absoutely stunning in the titillating, NSFW spread, which was shot by top fashion photog duo, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Way to make 40 your b*tch, Kate. We wholeheartedly approve.
For his debut F/W 13 collection at the storied French fashion house, Saint Laurent designer Hedi Slimane devised a grunge collection of plaid knits and babydoll dresses that polarised the critics. While some dismissed it as derivative and uninspired, others praised Slimane’s uncompromising vision and chutzpah.

Love is a beautiful thing. Especially if both parties are like, really, really, really, ridiculously good looking. Such is the case with Victoria’s Secret model, Behati Prinsloo, and People’s Sexiest Man Alive, Adam Levine, whose July engagement announcement evoked a collective sigh from us mere mortals. Conversely, when Miranda Kerr, separated from husband, Orlando Bloom, in October, we were as inconsolable as if it were our own breakup. (Which totally explains that empty pint of Chubby Hubby in the freezer).
Lululemon CEO Chip Wilson landed himself in hot water when he inferred that his company’s recall of black yoga pants wasn’t because they were defective, but rather the women who wore them were. “They don’t work for some women’s bodies,” Wilson said in an interview. “It’s really about the rubbing through the thighs.” The fat-shaming CEO later announced he was stepping down from his post.

Guests dutifully dressed according to this year’s punk theme with plenty of studs and spikes, and even the odd mohawk. (Nicole Richie and Cara Delevingne tied for the night’s best-dressed, in our humble opinion). However, the event itself was a relatively tame affair, complete with the usual sit-down dinner and performances by fashion industry favourites, Debbie Harry and Kanye West.

When Karl Lagerfeld sent a model down the runway at his Metiers d’Art show in Dallas last month in a traditional Native American headdress, he ruffled a few feathers, so to speak. Meanwhile, The New York Times fashion critic, Cathy Horn, took issue with how few local residents were invited to the event. Those who did attend, however, reported having a wonderful time. You can’t please ‘em all, we suppose.

We’ve had a lot of feelings about Miss Cyrus this year: amusement, shock, confusion. But as the year comes to a close, we’ve made peace with the pop princess’s attention-grabbing antics and even come to appreciate them for the shrewd marketing ploy they are. “Human sexuality is the new showmanship,” Tina Fey said recently in an interview. “So Miley Cyrus the new Liberace — but of arse grinding.” As usual Tina, we agree.
