There's nothing worse than standing in front of your closet completely overwhelmed with the clutter. C'mon, you know that feeling like you're drowning in a sea of sweaters, top, and dresses you probably don't even wear that often. While we've certainly given you a few closet-organizing tips over time, here's one more to add to the list.
Our friends at StyleCaster hit up Melanie Charlton Fascitelli—founder and creative director of New York City-based couture closet design company Clos-ette—for an expert tip. Fascitelli's method for cleaning out your closet? Asking yourself: "If I were shopping right this second, would I buy this item?” If the answer is no, out it goes. But why is this actually effective? Well, as StyleCaster explains, there's no sense in hanging onto things you probably won't ever wear again, like that cheap crop top you bought four months ago. If you can't picture yourself in it, toss it to start the decluttering process.
So interesting. What do you think? Will you test out this trick to clean out your closet? Let us know in the comments below. And if you're looking for closet organizational devices, shop these finds here.
