Bella Hadid has proven she's a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry: She's the face of Nike, Dior beauty, and partnered with Chrome Hearts on a collection. In her latest gig, the 20-year-old covers InStyle's August issue and talks all things modeling, including how she met BFF and fellow model Kendall Jenner.
Gigi's younger sister may have an impressive résumé, but she discusses with the magazine that it didn't come easy as many might assume. "I’m not saying I don’t love my job, but people think modeling is a bullsh** thing to become more famous," she tells the magazine. "I was 100 percent independent by the time I was 18, and I paid for my own apartment. That wasn’t because of my parents. I worked my ass off for two years."
With so much experience in the industry, you would think Hadid met her BFF, fellow model Kendall Jenner, at a casting or backstage at fashion week, but the two California girls actually met online when they were young teenagers. "That was before we started modeling," she says of meeting Jenner. "I was probably 14 or 15. "We met up and had sushi, and now we’re best friends. She’s a pretty significant human I met online." The two pals seem to have a great support system and even share similar sartorial sensibilities, natch.
