The Matte Face

Break out your powder puffs, ladies, because this season skin with a sheen gets a hall pass. Ranging from ghostly cobwebs at Alexander McQueen to wearable dusty cheeks at Peter Som, matte faces were all the rage on the Spring 2007 catwalks. We haven't seen this much non-glossy finish since we discovered MAC Studio Fix in 1994. Long-time proponent Dita von Teese is a great example of how to currently wear this look-think Madame Alexander doll that's been tucked away in the attic-created by lots of light layers of loose powder. We particularly enjoyed the version that makeup artist Gucci Westman created for the Rag & Bone show. She paired the slightly opaque skin with lots of black liquid eyeliner and palest pink matte lips for a rough and refined femininity.
