With over 80,000 products on the site at any given time, ASOS is nothing short of an e-commerce behemoth—which is probably why we end up spending so much time scrolling through pages and pages of crop tops, statement earrings, and fashion sneakers every time we visit the homepage. That's also translated into major sales for the London-based retailer, to the tune of over $1 billion in just six months, per its most recent earnings report.
But what exactly are customers buying these days? (Other than, um, a lot of stuff.) To find out, we asked Vanessa Spence, the ASOS womenswear design director, to ID the top trends shoppers are adding to their carts right now—and in the process, we finally got an explanation for why it's been so hard to scoop up a pair of black fishnet socks from them this season (you're not imagining it—they just keep selling out.)
Below, shop the five best-selling trends of the season from ASOS.
"ASOS has become a destination for denim, and each month sells an average of 225K units site-wide. We recently released our Jeans by ASOS campaign, which highlights a few of the 2200-plus styles currently available for the season. While the Ridley High Waist Skinny Jean has remained a consistent top seller, the Farleigh, a high-waist slim 'mom' style, is quickly becoming a new favorite." — Spence
"The '80s are truly back! We have seen great sales on the mini silhouette in skirts and cocktail dresses, and the high-cut leg swimsuits and bodysuits are doing incredibly well."— Spence
"Bardot is the new cold shoulder, inspired by films such as Jackie and Beauty and the Beast. The exposed shoulder is an elegant statement neckline for occasionwear. It's a style that we sold last year, but we have seen increased sales this season, making it a must-have for summer weddings." — Spence
Embroidery and Customization
"This season is all about personalization. In a world where everything is easily accessible, our customer wants to be more of an individual. Embroidery inspired by South American culture has been selling very well this season, and we have a new collaboration with L.A.-based embroidery studio Lot, Stock, and Barrel, which launched on April 13. The capsule includes womenswear, menswear, and unisex pieces that are customized with both chain stitch and traditional embroidery, patches, and slogans inspired by Lot, Stock, and Barrel's unique perspective." — Spence
"Hosiery is making a comeback, and fishnet tights and socks are a great summer alternative to cold-weather tights. They can be worn with trainers or heels for a glam day-to-evening feel. The fishnet sock has been an ASOS number one seller all season." — Spence
