There’s something about Amber Valletta, and it’s not just her piercing blue eyes, flawless blond locks, or ability to rock a runway. The model and actress is all about giving back, which is why she took to hosting the Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Accessories for Success Luncheon for another time around. The event, which was held over the weekend at The Beverly Wilshire, in Beverly Hills, California, is geared towards raising money for Little Brothers and Little Sisters pursuing higher education, where 60 scholarships were awarded this year. Prior to the runway portion of the event, luxury boutique vendors joined together for guests to enjoy some shopping, with 20% of the proceeds going to BBBSLA. We caught up with Valletta on the red carpet, where we discussed her role as hostess, but also touched on lighter matters, like who her favorite models of the moment are and her favorite flea market. Keep reading to see who Valletta respects in the industry, and where she shops vintage goodies.
WHO WHAT WEAR: What do you enjoy most about hosting this annual luncheon?
AMBER VALLETTA: I love seeing the kids and hearing about what they’re doing and the progress that they’re making in their lives. It’s just inspiring. I mean, if I didn’t have children of my own, and maybe when they leave, I’ll go and mentor some children. It’s just amazing to see these kids get a chance at life and have success. And the fashion show is pretty cute!
WWW: What is your level of involvement in prepping for this event? Do you help provide runway tips to those walking in the show?
AV: [Laughs] No! They don’t ask me for that; they just ask me to show up and be the hostess. I would, though, if they asked! Why not? It would be funny!
WWW: We have to ask: Who are some of your favorite models of the moment, and what advice do you have for some of today’s biggest household names, like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner?
AV: To be honest, I’m still a fan of the girls from my generation; it’s hard to beat them. I think Gigi’s cute. I love Karlie Kloss. I have a lot of respect for her. And I think Joan Smalls is gorgeous! As for advice: Enjoy the ride. I don’t know; I mean, it’s such a different world. I think they have it figured out—I don’t think they need any advice from me. Maybe I should be asking them for advice!
WWW: Where are your favorite places to score deals on fashion and home goods? Any cool vintage shops you can recommend?
AV: I always love a flea market; the Pasadena flea market is amazing. To be honest, I’m not a huge shopper, and most of my furniture, I made custom. I’d have to say I really love flea markets for those cool vintage pieces, and even for clothes.
