T-Strap Heels

While we've spent the last twelve months experimenting with some pretty memorable footwear-like bright oxfords, high-fashion sneakers, and velvet slippers, to name a few-lately, we're appreciating modern takes on classic styles! Case in point: t-strap heels. Though often understated and most commonly associated with '20s flappers and ballroom dancers, t-strap heels have made one heck of a return to the limelight this season, via an array of supremely chic designs. Managing to be sophisticated, ladylike, and sexy all at the same time, t-strap heels have quickly become a favorite among designers and the style-minded set, making them the perfect topic of discussion in this year's first Accessory Report!

When selecting the ideal runway reference for today's report, the Emilio Pucci Resort 12 collection seemed like the most fitting choice. Why, you may ask? Clothing-wise, designer Peter Dundas showed a number of brightly colored pant suits, zebra patterns, and a yellow caftan that is destined for tropical getaways, but even with all of that eye-candy going on, it was the collection's t-strap Sandals ($560, 561.655.7070), shown above, that immediately stood out to us. Featuring a sleek pointed toe and gold leather straps, these heels are the epitome of high glamour, fit for a cool fashion party or a girls' night out.

While we're smitten with the Pucci versions of today's accessory du jour, they're not the only game in town. This season, there's particular style of t-strap heels that's getting loads of mileage: Calvin Klein Collection's Calf T-Strap Stilettos ($795, 212.292.9000). A slew of fashionable femmes-like Chloe Moretz, Lara Stone, and Barneys New York's Women's Fashion Director Amanda Brooks-have all been spotted wearing these of-the-moment shoes, but it is the way in which each tastemaker has made them their own that is worth mentioning! First up: actress Chloe Moretz, who at ELLE's 18th Annual Women in Hollywood tribute event two months ago, addressed the shoe's sophisticated spirit by teaming it with a Calvin Klein Collection Belted Sleeveless Collar Dress ($1095, 212.292.9000) and Gold Mirror Calf Belted Envelope Clutch ($995, 212.292.9000) for a polished and professional look. A month later, at the Museum of Modern Art Film Benefit celebrating Pedro Almodovar, model Lara Stone expertly paired her shoes with the fashion brand's Wheat Pressed Embroidered Dress ($11,000, 212.292.9000) from the F/W 11 collection. We love how the silky frock and vivid red lipstick compliment the feminine shoes. Also playing up the heels' sensual vibe was Amanda Brooks, who at the same MOMA event in New York styled the Black Patent Leather and Satin T-Strap Stilettos ($795, 212.292.9000) with Calvin Klein Collection's daring, semi-sheer Satin Bib Front Shell Top ($2695, 212.292.9000) and Satin Fluted Skirt ($3195, 212.292.9000) for a cool, fashion-forward outfit.

Of course, the aforementioned ladies aren't the only ones incorporating t-strap heels into their dressy wardrobes! Earlier this fall, at the 37th Deauville Film Festival in France, we noted model/actress Elisa Sednaoui sporting a pair of brown leather Christian Louboutin t-strap heels, which perfectly offset the playful leopard print of her Giambattista Valli dress, and gave her red-carpet look a polished, ladylike finish.

If the bad news is that your closet is lacking a pair or two of t-strap heels, the good news is we've rounded up an enviable selection of options for your purchasing pleasures! For those of you who prefer prim, feminine footwear, we have a hunch you're going to love Ivanka Trump's bow-bedecked Heydan Pumps ($140), which feature a shorter heel and sleek pointed toe. Looking for a style that's a little less girly? We're partial to Burberry's textured Raffia Platform Sandals ($695) if you can afford to invest a little more, and the chic gray snake print on Charles David's Bodacious Platforms ($250, 310.659.7110) is lovely too. Of course, if you're in the market for something similar to Sednaoui's pick, we'd like to direct you to Mrkt's Patty Pumps ($80). In addition to those styles, we're also crazy about Rodarte for Opening Ceremony's two-tone T-Strap Heels ($306), the slightly vintage look of Loft's T-Strap Suede Sandals ($89.50), the gold chain detailing on Reiss' Troy Chain Strappy Sandals ($300), and finally, the incredibly cool mix of suede and metal featured on MICHAEL Michael Kors' Josie T-Strap Sandals ($150).-Jessica Baker
