How to Wear Your Formal Wear Anywhere, According to Zoë Kravitz

Gina Marinelli

Nearly every woman has something in her closet that she’s only worn once to a fancy occasion and then never again. It’s a shame, really. But as Zoë Kravitz’s ensemble from last night shows us, that doesn’t have to be the case. A fancy tuxedo jacket on a Wednesday? Why not?

While out and about about with friends yesterday evening, Kravitz donned her formal wear over a sheer button-down dress and chunky booties. The white-and-black color palette was reminiscent of a black-tie dress code—typically, but not necessarily, for men—however it was given her signature dose of edge. Plus, as someone who’s petite at 5’2”, she paired proportions brilliantly. The deep cut of her jacket lapels elongated the neckline of her buttoned-to-the-neck dress, while the ankle crop of her shoes showed just a little bit of leg under her midi-length hem so that she wasn’t totally covered in fabric.

Overall, the look is unexpected and probably not a combination we’d think of when we randomly spot that fancy piece sitting sadly at the back of our wardrobes. But now we will.
