New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve is unquestionably the most hyped night of the year, which is why it's essential that you wear something fantastic whilst celebrating! That being said, we also understand the kind of pressure and stress that comes with putting together a truly memorable look, which is why we've decided to bring you a very special NYE version of WWW Picks. After all, you want to end the year with a sartorial bang, right? This year, we put together two very different to-die-for outfits that perfectly suit the occasion: one look is ideal for feminine dressers and the other is a super chic pants option. Whichever one you choose, we promise that all eyes will be on you when the clock strikes midnight!
As per usual, we turned to the runways for some guidance and found inspiration in two fabulous Resort 2012 collections: Prabal Gurung and Gucci. The former offered up plenty of glamorous outfit ideas for the uber-feminine types, our favorite being the Geranium Hand-Embroidered Sequined Crystal Tulle Chemise Dress ($9995, email@example.com). The look is everything you would expect from a NYE ensemble: sparkly and glamorous! Additionally, we love the strappy, vertiginous heels, which give the fancy frock some extra pizzazz. On the other side of the spectrum, we're also smitten with Gucci's slightly more subdued-yet equally stylish-ensemble, which consisted of the Wool Calvallery Bi-Stretch Jacket ($1950), Bronze Voile Lurex T-Shirt Top ($795), Cavallery Stretch Riding Pants ($1250), and black patent leather High Heel Pumps ($525). The tailored separates give the outfit a chic and polished look, while the shimmering top brings just the right amount of glitz, resulting in a well-balanced ensemble fit for a cool, downtown girl.
Look 1: Inspired by Prabal Gurung
Now that you're familiar with our designer references, it's time to talk clothing! First, if you're searching for a high-impact ensemble a la Prabal Gurung for your NYE bash, we suggest creating an outfit with separates you'll be able to mix and match all year long rather than investing in one not-so-versatile glittery frock. To start, we like the idea of a statement-making skirt, like DKNY's Lacquer Paillette Mini Skirt ($275). Then, to prevent your outfit from becoming too loud or over the top, we suggest going for a neutral top; H&M's Mixed Media Top ($40, 310.855.9683) works well because it has a simple silhouette but the patent leather gives it a cool shine. The contrast of a noir top with the bright pink, paillette-adorned piece makes for an undeniably dazzling combination! To finish off the outfit, add a noir clutch with just a hint of sparkle, like Capsule by Joy Gyrson's Stingray Clutch ($850), and since you're skirt is going to be doing most of the talking, one standout piece of jewelry is all you'll need. We adore Kelly Wearstler's gold Pyrite Cluster Cuff ($445), which has a sleek design and brings in a subtle element of glitter. Finally, snag a pair of strappy heels, like Qupid's Drama Pumps ($40) in Black and you'll have a winning outfit in no time.

Look 2: Inspired by Gucci
Sequined skirts not quite your thing? No need to fret, we promise our second outfit will appeal to those of you who prefer a more masculin-feminin approach to dressing. To emulate Gucci's Resort 12 look, simply start with a metallic top, such as H&M's silver Metallic Short-Sleeve Sweater ($60, 310.855.9683), then add a streamlined blazer, like Club Monaco's Nina Tux Blazer ($269, 310.657.1818) and crisp white pants, like Vince's Zip Zip Pants ($220). To bring a hint of shine to these pared-down basics, consider snagging an eye-catching necklace, such as J. Crew's Feathered Crystal Necklace ($158) in Apricot Mist and complete your outfit by accessorizing with a one-of-a-kind clutch; we think Mango's Chains Clutch ($130) is perfect because of its cool chain detailing. Finally, a simple-yet-chic pair of pumps, like VC's Signature Prue Heels ($225) in Black, will round out this modern take on NYE dressing perfectly.-Erin Fitzpatrick
