While every item we select for our monthly WWW Hearts story is a sartorial find after our own heart, rest assured we're not only thinking of ourselves when picking them out, dear readers! Often, we find ourselves imagining whom we'd gift with these stylish pieces, and this month is no exception. After all, May brings us both Mother's Day (Mulberry's Del Rey bag would look lovely on her arm!) and a number of birthday celebrations (we can definitely think of a friend or two who'd appreciate Maje's cool-girl tee), affording us plenty of opportunity to lavish our loved ones with these must-have May favorites!
Clinique Limited Edition Long Last Lipstick ($15) in Runway Coral
Any woman who's gone in search of the perfect orange-red lipstick knows how difficult it is to find just the right tone. But when Clinique's Global Colour Artist, Jenna Menard, concocts a special color specifically for Karen Walker's S/S 12 runway show, you can expect ravishing results. Indeed, the revered makeup brand's long-wear lipstick now comes in an eye-catching, creamy coral shade ideal for spring and summer. As a bonus, its special formula grants you hours of a perfect coral-colored pucker!
If you're a devoted WWW reader, you'd know our love of books is second only to our love of fashion. Imagine our delight, then, when we stumbled across a trend cleverly combining both passions--book clutches! We first spotted actress Michelle Williams clasping Olympia Le-Tan's Classic Clutch "The Misfits" ($1508) in White, a tribute to Arthur Miller's screenplay, at The Orange British Academy Film Awards in February. Her purse, a welcome deviation from the standard evening clutch, offered an elegant complement to her sophisticated gown. We admired the look so much that we tracked down a couple other options for self-proclaimed bookworms, like Kate Spade New York's I Married Adventure Book Clutch ($325) and The Importance Of Being Earnest Book Clutch ($325), as seen above. These chic purses have it all: they're convenient (thanks to details like interior credit card slots), they're amazing conversation starters, and better yet, they make you appear both book smart and sartorially smart!
Maje Brigitte Bardot T-Shirt ($165)
We're convinced that Maje has created the perfect graphic t-shirt, and if you're a Brigitte Bardot fan (as we clearly are!), you'd agree. The label's short-sleeve top features a black-and-white photo of the blonde bombshell who ruled French cinema in the '50s and '60s. The tee is part of a limited-edition collection of five shirts, so be sure to snap one up right away! We love the idea of pairing it with dark denim jeans, red heels, and a touch of red lipstick for a slightly sassy outfit that Bardot would certainly approve of.
Mulberry Del Rey Bag ($1250, available May 14) in Deer Brown
We've harbored a not-so-secret girl crush on Lana Del Rey for quite a while now, and unsurprisingly, so has Mulberry! The British brand was so inspired by the indie pop singer, in fact, that they named a bag in their F/W 12 collection after her (an honor previously bestowed upon fashion industry darling Alexa Chung). While we think this versatile rendition in a caramel-tinged brown hue will surely become spring's "it" accessory, the buttery soft satchel's classic silhouette makes it a year-round must-have too. Even if you don't have Del Rey's incredible voice, toting around her namesake bag is a fun consolation prize!
The Webster at Target
If you live in Miami or you're familiar with the city's lush sartorial scene, you're likely enamored with local high-fashion boutique The Webster. Thankfully for those of us who don't live anywhere near the South Beach hotspot, the store is part of Target's latest design collaboration. Owner Laure Heriard Dubreiul teamed up with Target to create a collection of apparel and accessories infused with a distinctive Miami vibe. One of our favorite picks? The colorful Cap-Toe Wedges ($30) in Melon/Gold! The heels feature several whimsical details, including a chic ankle-strap, quirky cap-toe, and cheerful striped lining, that make us want to slip them on right away. Don't forget to check out the collaboration, available May 6th!
Alex Prager Compulsion Exhibit
We've long revered the work of contemporary artist Alex Prager, who shoots for several major publications like W Magazine and Vanity Fair, so we were thrilled to learn about her new exhibition, Compulsion, simultaneously running at Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, M+B Gallery in Los Angeles, and Michael Hoppen Contemporary Gallery in London through May 12th. The exhibition features a selection of color photographs, in addition to Prager's new short film, La Petite Mort, starring French actress Judith Godrèche. The artist's striking photos are often vibrant depictions of tragedies (or suggestive of them, like the photo of an abandoned car and boulder above), and comment on our society's response to real-life disasters shown in the media.--Tiffany Tse
