There are many things we like about Kirsten Dunst's personal fashion taste: her excellent eye for proportion, tendency to pick excellent incognito brands, and the way she's loyal to her favorite pieces. We also happen to be complete fans of the way she puts the "fun" in functional style. You'll never see Ms. Dunst teetering around town in spindly five-inch heels (at least not by day) or enveloped in ten different trends at once. Of course, this doesn't mean she's a fashion milquetoast-quite the opposite, in fact. Her innately unfussy sensibility is a blend of seventies panache and continental sophistication for a smart modern look.
When she's not traipsing down the red carpet in vintage Chanel, Dunst tends to favor understated outfits with a hint of French flair. It also seems that wardrobe from the The Virgin Suicides made an impact, as Dunst often goes for high-waisted jeans, practical (read: low) wedge sandals, and across-body bags. Keeping these two style influences in mind, we found a pair of pleated shorts with a retro vibe and some low wedge heels straight from the Me Decade. Swinging back to the current era, we chose a unique blouse by Mike & Chris and an amazing long-strap bag that seems to be very much Dunst's style. Our final flourish is a toxin-free bottle of pale pink nail lacquer, which adds another bit of Parisian polish to the ensemble!
- Mike & Chris Pacey Top ($270)
Everything about this top-from the taupe silk to the unusual bib neckline to the slit pockets-struck us as the sort of thing Dunst would wear. It has so many interesting subtle nuances that it would appeal to our subject's independent taste.
Nine West Plastic Oval Aviator ($36)
We love the metal details on these black aviators; it's a little luxe touch that amplifies their style and makes them a very personal choice.
Topshop Playing Card Pleated Shorts ($56)
These pleated shorts have an almost skirt-like look, and we figure that if anyone would be able to bring back culottes (even pseudo ones), it's Dunst.
Seychelles Feel The Funk Heels ($84)
We're not sure if we think Ms. Dunst would like these shoes, or if it's her Virgin Suicides alter ego, Lux Lisbon, who would approve. Either way, these sweet slingbacks have a sensible two-inch heel, which makes them the perfect shoe for Soho strolls.
Valentine Saddle Bag ($42)
This petite, red, flap-front bag looks like something a French university student would have carried in the seventies-so it's very Kirsten Dunst! The saddle bag also has an extra long strap so it can be worn in the across-body style.
Butter LONDON 3 Free Nail Lacquer in Pink Ribbon ($12)
Dunst is a natural beauty who typically eschews cosmetics in her personal time, so we couldn't imagine the actress in some of-the-moment lip color or with trendy polish. We found this understated shade by Butter London, a product that happily doesn't contain formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl phthalate!
