You Might Be Surprised Where These Fashion CEOs Went to School

Erin Fitzpatrick

Rent the Runway, Gilt Groupe, Shoptiques, and Stitch Fix are some of the buzziest fashion startups right now. And what else do they have in common? According to Fortune, the CEOs of all of these companies ditched the fashion school route for the business school route—specifically Harvard Business School.

That's right: The Ivy League school known for famous tech alums like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates is also responsible for some of the fashion industry's rising power players. Fortune explains one possible reason for the trend: "When MBA students see predecessors succeeding in a particular industry, it gets them to at least consider it." Students have had plenty of examples of successful businesses started by women for women, including Birchbox, which was founded by 2010 graduate Katia Beauchamp.
