Gossip Girl Special Edition
Greetings Upper East Siders! (And hello to the West Coasters, Australians, and all other WhoWhatWearDaily.com subscribers in their respective locations as well.) We must kindly interrupt our regularly programmed episode of WWSW: Answers! to take a peek into the highly coveted wardrobe of the CW's most popular new series, Gossip Girl. As if our personal adoration of the show wasn't enough motivation to initiate such a story, we've also received a constant flow of GG-related questions from the moment the pilot was tivoed. Without further adieu, we invite you to lust your heart out, as we proudly present: What Was She Wearing: Gossip Girl Edition.
Nan Zhang/Kati Farkas
We cannot overstate the brilliance of the GG wardrobe team, and we particularly enjoy how they pay attention to details. In support of statement, we present Nan Zhang's wardrobe as evidence. In the above image, Zhang is cozy in Paul & Joe Sister's You Win Poncho ($400). We like the unexpected outerwear (it matches the character's style perfectly) and how the poncho's checks play against the stripes on Zhang's cute ballerina flats. The slim soled shoes the Cruiser flats by Dollhouse and are a steal at twice the price ($34.95)!
Leighton Meester/Blair Waldorf
Next up, we have the queen bee of the show, Leighton Meester a.k.a. Blair. At first glance, her above outfit seems a little patent-happy, but we are definitely keen on the overall effect. If you're looking to incorporate some variety into your typical outerwear options of peacoats and cardigans, then her Tory Burch Mercedes Trench is the perfect choice, and (even better) it's on sale ($1,197 on sale). While you cannot see it in this exact picture, Meester was also carrying a glossy, perfect, ruby bag-the Be&D Twiggy Patent Tote. The delicious red purse is sadly sold out, but Saks does have the black patent version available ($1,080). Finally, Meeter's feet are clad in a pair of Sam Edelman's Rita Tri-Color Patent Ankle Boots ($79.99 on sale), also available in Bordeau/White; the last touch of patent is a perfect finishing touch.
Blake Lively/Serena van der Woodsen
While fashionably up to par with the other ladies' outfits, Blake Lively's attire offers a few budget-conscious pieces we can all appreciate. Beginning with her dress, please note that Blake is wearing Alice & Olivia's Marilyn Pleat Mini in green ($242). Shopbop currently has the dress in red and black. We suggest you take cues from Blake and pair the mini with some Herringbone Tights; the tights pictured are from Forever21, but Banana Republic makes a close match ($14.50). Regarding Lively's boots, it is with great excitement that we report to you their origin: Payless! The Shiloh Cuff Low Boot comes in both blue and black and are on sale now ($26.99). Last, but not least, Blake is wearing a classic, animal print, affordable coat from Forever 21. Pick up the Vogue Faux Leopard coat from your local XXI store or order it online now ($59).
Taylor Momsen/ Jenny Humphrey
We spotted everyone's favorite underdog, Taylor Momsen, filming on the streets of NYC, and realized that we look forward to seeing her apparel each week, for she is easily the best-dressed 14-year-old around. We love the color-scheme and style of the above Alessandra Windowpane Coat by Tocca and though you won't be able to find a short version like Taylor is wearing (they specifically tailored it to the actress' small size), we enjoy the length of the real coat just as much ($660). Moving on to the leggings, Momsen's Min'k Wool Sparkle pair is no longer available, however, the Min'k boutique assured us that they have very similar styles in stock ($60, 212.253.837). The plaid top peeking out from the coat is a minor detail, but we thought it was worth mentioning. It's from Alice Ritter's S/S 2007 Collection and a select few will be on sale at Bluefly beginning December 1st ($375). Her fantastic boots are the Veronica Lace Up by Frye ($270), they're our favorite part of Momsen's outfit. -Jessica Amento
