Congratulations, dear readers, you have almost made it through your post-Independence Day workweek! While returning to the rigmarole of your daily routine can certainly be a sobering endeavor, we have kept our spirits high and our Sherlock-Holmes-skills honed by tracking down publicists and scanning our stacks of lookbooks to provide you with today's information-packed and densely-detailed edition of What Was She Wearing: Answers! We hope that today's offerings are enough to sate your sartorial appetite and keep you entertained until the next sun-and-sand-filled weekend arrives!
The fresh-faced Lynn Collins achieved an elegant-yet-edgy ensemble at the (500) Days of Summer premiere in Los Angeles late last month. The X-Men Origins: Wolverine and True Blood actress combined a body-con black skirt (a closet-staple she has cherished for years) with Twenty Cluny's Sequin Motorcycle Jacket ($660), both very on-trend and stand-out pieces. Her Junk Food band shirt, similar to their ACDC High Voltage Tee ($45), adds a little bit of dressed-down personal style, while her accessories-the classic Alma Shoes ($555) and retro-glam Cecile Bag ($2595) from Jimmy Choo-provide a little extra polish. Rock Topshop's Leather Mix Biker Jacket ($268), Free People's High Waisted Skirt ($28), Elizabeth and James' Jazz Pump ($325), and Bourne's Gardenia Handbag ($195) for an inspired-by Lynn Collins look or pick out your favorite element of her outfit as smart separate investments. Either way, be sure to stay tuned to see this up-and-coming star's fashionable ascension!
While Leighton Meester has been spotted sporting some new blonde tresses this summer (for a film), she's stayed true to her consistently chic clothing choices. En route to tape a segment for MTV's It's On With Alexa Chung, Meester wore Thakoon's Antique Floral Lace Pullover Dress (from the designer's Resort 2009 collection), Tod's D Bag ($1495, 800.457.8637), and Christian Louboutin's Platform Lace Up Booties ($1195). Though her dress isn't available, try Thakoon Addition's Floral Lace Dress ($625) for a garden-inspired print or the Slouchy Pullover Dress ($498) from Thakoon's main collection for a voluminous style-both mimic aspects of Meester's selection. If you are taken with the shape, but want it at a more reasonable price-point, try Dolce Vita's Jemma Dress ($143), then round out the look with Topshop's Roulette Lace Up Sandals ($125) and Melie Bianco's Patent Bowler Bag ($95) in gray.
As evidenced by the above photo, Isla Fisher can certainly play the part of a fashion plate. The Confessions of a Shopoholic-comedienne stunned in a Stella McCartney dress and clutch at the Los Angeles' premiere of her long-time fiance's flick Bruno. These designer pieces are from McCartney's forthcoming fall collection, and won't be available for a few more weeks; in the meantime, try ASOS' Silk Sweetheart Neck Dress ($101) if you're mad about the contrasting top, or the brand's Oasis Drape Dress ($137) if you're crazy for the color of Fisher's frock. While her Mechante of London Dita Python Shoes ($676, 212.431.3890) and Bulgari jewels are out-of-this-world amazing, we can also recommend DV by Dolce Vita's Fire Heel ($68) and Forever 21's Dimpled Bangle Set ($5) as equally shimmering alternates for her stellar accessories.
Though a somewhat controversial figure on The City, Olivia Palermo remains on our good side due to her sophisticated urban ensembles. For a day of running errands in the, errr, city, Palermo wore Armani Exchange's Cap Sleeve Vest ($98) over a long-sleeved henley, and Daryl K's Stretch Leather Pull-On Pants ($1200). While we love her leather leggings, we're also aware that it's quite a lot to shell out for what some consider to be a questionable bottom option. Nordstrom's Slick Leggings ($68) or ASOS' Gloss Shine Leggings ($31) both have a little sheen and are extra-long like Palermo's pick, but they don't require such a financial commitment. Another thing we appreciate about Palermo outfit is her Sergio Rossi Metallic Lace Up Flats (unfortunately from the brand's 2008 F/W collection), as we've spent many a day trekking through New York City's streets and know that strappy sandals aren't always the most comfortable choice. Razzle dazzle Palermo-style and instead try a silvery shoe from Topshop: we like either the Kameryn Brogue Shoe ($125) or the Meena Pointed Lace Up Shoe ($55).-KM, additional reporting by Kelly Agnew
