The holiday of love (Valentine's Day, of course) is just a few days away, and that means you're probably gearing up for an influx of those de rigueur treats¬--chocolate and bubbly. And while we love a good truffle and glass of champers as much as the next girl, we'd like to propose an alternative indulgence in honor of this cupid-filled holiday: today's What Was She Wearing: Answers!. It's lovingly prepared and positively stuffed with all of your most sought-after sartorial solutions, plus the only post-consumption hangover you'll get is an overload of impeccable inspiration!
The always well-dressed Nicky Hilton looked casual and chic while running errands around Beverly Hills last week. Her American Apparel Interlock Mini Skirt ($25), vintage plaid flannel, and Levi's Jean Jacket ($135) are all great pieces¬--just be sure to pick up Joe's Slim Plaid Shirt ($98) or Forever 21's Crinkle Plaid Shirt ($20) for two look-a-like alternatives to her thrifted treasure. Hilton finished off her ensemble with a Rebecca Minkoff Flowerstud Hobo Clutch ($385) and Yves Saint Laurent's lace-up booties. Since the latter elicited plenty of email inquiries, we suggest you also consider Steve Madden's Seanna Platform Lace Up ($150) for an economical and effortless option!
Whitney Port clearly knows how to travel in style, as evidenced by her laid-back LAX-look. Snapped while en route to film The City, the star wore some seriously shredded Current/Elliott The Skinny Legging Jeans ($207); we enthusiastically endorse her choice and can also recommend The Leggings ($98) from Joe's Jeans, as they bear an uncanny resemblance to her designer denim! She rounded out the outfit with a cozy Autumn Cashmere draped cardigan and a simple pair of Rhein Flats ($158) from Sue London. We also like Silence & Noise's Detail Cocoon Cardigan ($48) or Neal Sperling's Open Cardigan ($48) for two similarly chic sweater options, and Vera Wang Lavender Label's Lillian Flats ($195). Finally, the pièce de résistance: the Large Pamela Python Purse with Croc Handles ($3150, 212.794.3874) from LAI. Though her exact style is certainly covetable, we can also happily say that Tory Burch's Snake Embossed Hobo Snake Embossed Hobo Handbag ($495) is also sinfully superb!
It seems as though it is impossible for Olivia Palermo to leave the house without setting at least a handful of fashion followers' hearts aflutter with her perfectly edited wardrobe. Seen at a Night to Benefit Haiti event at the Thompson LES in New York City, the posh Palermo wore a Zara plaid button-up and fuzzy bag. She punctuated these high-street finds with a pair of brilliantly hued Chela Leather Shorts ($465) from Diane von Furstenberg. While you may not think that a pair of bright green leather shorts is an obvious must-have, we do love the way in which the shocking green hue makes her outfit pop, yet the casual shape keeps the outfit grounded; try Martin + Osa's Ghurka Bedford Shorts ($50) to help you achieve a similarly (although slightly more muted) rendition of Palermo's picks. Just finish the look with Abercrombie and Fitch's Caily Top ($58) in order to get a Palermo-approved mix!
Mary Kate Olsen
While the Olsen Empire continues to prosper (Mary Kate was seen leaving The Today Show to promote her and her sister Ashley's Olsenboye collection for JCPenney), it is good to know that multitasking doesn't take away from her signature soignée. Wearing a navy pea coat from Alexander McQueen (which she smartly belted with a Lanvin leather cincher), MKO managed to look both warm and wonderfully feminine. Make sure to try ASOS' Wool Metal Button Full Skirted Coat ($145) tied with Martin + Osa's Classic Vintage Belt ($55). Worn with a pair of Proenza Schouler leather booties and a pair of glasses from The Row for Linda Farrow, we are happy to report that we cannot wait to see what is next (we hear it's denim for Elizabeth and James!) for this seriously stylish icon!
