Our fashion week coverage would never be complete without a nod to a quintessential editor-in-training¬--the perennially polished Olivia Palermo. To attend Peter Som's show at Milk Studios, The City star opted for a chic, military-inspired look consisting of olive-hued Joie pants and a Diane von Furstenberg shirt, then punctuated the outfit with a blazer that speaks directly to her love for classic-meets-trendy fare (it was custom-made for her by designer Frank Tell). Palermo flashed a bit of tough-girl sexiness with lace-up Charlotte Olympia Patent Lace Up Boots ($1652) and further piled on luxe textural intrigue with her CC Skye The Onie Messenger Bag ($595)¬--perfect for housing her notebook and scarf! Finally, balancing out the strong look with a touch of the feminine, Palermo opted for some signature shimmer with a statement necklace courtesy of Lulu Frost.
We can always count on supermodel/designer Erin Wasson to bring us a look from the front lines of fashion, and at the S/S 11 NYFW shows, she did not disappoint. For the Alexander Wang show, she picked an of-the-moment crochet-like dress from Australia line Scanlan & Theodore's S/S 10 collection. The resulting look was decidedly architectural and modern, yet still soft, due to the asymmetrical frock's mesmerizing mauve hue. We love how she grounded her net-like dress with sturdy Gee WaWa black wedge boots, for an unfussy look that's worthy of any front-row seat.
One of the most talked about pre-fashion week events¬--the reopening of the Soho Chanel store last Thursday¬--was a seriously style-star-studded soiree. Alongside tastemakers like Rachel Zoe, Blake Lively, Rachel Bilson, and SJP, model Chanel Iman looked absolutely incandescent in a glittery Chanel frock. We love how her eye-catching dropped-waist dress has a roaring twenties vintage appeal, while her red leather quilted Chanel bag is spot-on for fall. And, as magpies for glitz, we couldn't help but go ga-ga for her dazzling, detailed stilettos, yet also appreciate how she tempered the festive factors at play with minimal hair and makeup. The result is an effortlessly sexy look ideal for a Girl's Night Out!
Minimalism is one of our favorite looks for fall, so we were thrilled that South African stunner Charlize Theron picked a fashion-forward monochromatic look for Christian Dior's Fashion's Night Out event at their Madison Avenue Boutique last Friday. Her sophisticated ensemble¬--consisting of a mixture of subtly luxurious fabrics like a silky black top, tweed pants, and a matte black blazer¬--effuses a sartorial maturity worth emulating. Plus, we love how Theron countered this refined and timeless look with of-the-moment Christian Dior lace-up booties.
One of our favorite Gossip Girl ladies¬--Jessica Szohr, a.k.a Vanessa Abrams¬--proves that incorporating a few casual pieces into your outfit can still result in an ultra-chic look. While attending the Rag & Bone S/S 11 show, Szohr kept her top half dressy and sophisticated with a sheer blouse from said label and a black fitted blazer. For the lower half, she opted for a pair of gray cotton shorts¬--Rag & Bone's Montpelier Shorts ($230) to be exact¬--and suede Loeffler Randall Francesca Boots ($171), which gave her look a decidedly cool and comfortable vibe.
Always a serious jaw-dropper, actress Diane Kruger looked absolutely impeccable at Saks Fifth Avenue's Fashion's Night Out event held at the New York store. We appreciate that Kruger selected a frock in one of fall's hottest shades, as well as the way she contrasted Prabal Gurung's flirty Crepe Caplet Dress ($1850) with masculine, army-inspired shoes from the designer's F/W 10 collection. The result is an unexpected and directional cocktail look that has us dying for a pair of killer, silver-toed lace-up boots.¬--Liza Kaplan and Jessica Baker
