Models Off Duty

Models Off Duty
Wednesday, November, 07, 2012 The street style darlings may change every season, but there's one group of girls we're always interested in seeing: off-duty models. During Fashion Month--a.k.a. the S/S 13 shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris--outfit inspiration can be found on every corner, as these long-limbed ladies trek from one end of the city to the next in covetable designer pieces and effortlessly chic ensembles. We think these thrilling looks deserve a moment in the spotlight, which is why we've corralled our favorite off-duty ensembles for this special installment of What They Wear. Featuring a mix of adored alums and a few notable new faces, today's story promises not only to be easy on the eyes, but is packed with tons of styling tips too!

Tian Yi
We love the way Tian Yi styled her Joe Fresh Short Sleeve Turtleneck Sweater ($29) and Rag & Bone skinny jeans with a plaid Uniqlo scarf and camel-colored MICHAEL Michael Kors' Hamilton Satchel ($298). The sporty color-block sweater and easy-on-the-feet sneakers are practical and cute, while her classic tan bag and tartan scarf add a little timelessness to her ensemble.
Get The Look: David & Young Cashmere Oversized Plaid Shimmer Scarf ($45); Lands' End Cash Touch Plaid Scarf ($29); Steve Madden Bneptuun Satchel ($74).

Frida Gustavsson
Sweden native Frida Gustavsson offered a lesson in layering as she dashed between shows during New York Fashion Week. Starting with a thin silk cami and Prada wide-leg trousers as the foundation of her look, the model added a vintage printed kimono-style jacket styled under a menswear-inspired coat by Dagmar. So why does this work? The bright pattern breaks up the dark color palette, while the mix of textures and proportions lends dimension to the entire outfit.
Get The Look: Tibi Mila Silk Cami ($158); Banana Republic Collarless Double-Breasted Coat ($250); Topshop Floral Devore Kimono ($90); Free PeopleOpal Short Night Robe ($198); Vince Camuto Wide Leg Pants ($59).

Sara Blomqvist
Cold-weather color-blocking? Yes, please! Swedish stunner Sara Blomqvist showed us how it's done during Paris Fashion Week last month. The muted tones featured on her jacket and sweater complement each other without overwhelming the rest of the outfit.
Get The Look: L'Agence Colorblock Jacquard Coat ($695); Sparkle & Fade Melton Colorblock Vest Coat ($149); Joie Linnea Colorblock Sweater ($228); Madewell Colorblock Bookmark Sweater ($91).

Anja Rubik
Is there ever a moment when Anja Rubik doesn't look amazing? All signs point to no. Here, the Polish beauty stepped out in a calf-length charcoal coat paired with a cross-body bag and lace-up stiletto booties. Simply put: it's chic winter dressing at its best.
Get The Look: See by Chloe Deep Back Double-Breasted Wool-Blend Coat ($870); Zara Military Studio Coat ($299); Reiss Kristina Lace Up Booties ($370); Forever 21 Lace Up Stiletto Boots ($30).

Caroline Brasch Nielsen
Denim on denim is one of those lingering trends we've yet to tire of, which explains why we're eager to imitate Caroline Brasch Nielsen's effortless take on the look. Her outfit is anything but one note, thanks to the way she contrasted a pale chambray shirt with patchwork jeans in a darker wash.
Get The Look: Zara Light Denim Shirt ($50); ASOS Denim Shirt ($44) in Mid Stonewash Blue; Comptoir des Cotonniers Patchwork Jeans ($180); Free People Two-Tone Seamed Skinny Jeans ($70).

Hanne Gaby Odiele
Though we adore Hanne Gaby Odiele's more avant-garde sensibilities, there's something to be said about her pared-down looks too. The runway veteran most recently caught our eye in a fuchsia tee, which added a rich pop of color to her duo-tone Acne skirt. The addition of incredibly cool accessories--Acne's Pointy Ankle Boots ($630) and Valentino's Va Va Voom Small Flap Bag ($1895)--made for a noteworthy finish.
Get The Look: Richard Nicoll Silk Crepe de Chine T-Shirt ($445); T by Alexander Wang Linen and Silk-Blend Slub-Jersey T-Shirt ($98); Marc by Marc Jacobs Tara Two-Tone Skirt ($458); ASOS Skater Skirt ($62); BDG Chelsea Leather Ankle Boots ($69).

Lindsey Wixson
One of things we love most about Kansas native Lindsey Wixson is her down-to-earth sense of style. Though the 18-year-old tends to keep it simple in her off-duty hours, she'll personalize a basic jeans and t-shirt combo with a current classic-in this case, tassel-adorned loafers-for a sweetly unfussy look.
Get The Look: Sesto Meucci Neda Loafers ($202); Dolce Vita Bronx Tassel Loafers ($159).--Jessica Baker
